Ohhhh…I’m so happy it’s FRIDAY!
I pinned one of these funny memes and now, my feed is filled with them. This one in particular made me LOL!
Okay, as always, I have a random little assortment for your Friday and am I’m linking up with my girls Andrea, Erika and Narci . From movies to pretty weather, blog posts and a dessert, it’s an eclectic mix 🙂 .
I hope you all have a happy weekend!! xo
I started watching The Pharmacist on Tuesday night and have been really sucked in. Who else? I’m apparently turning into a really big fan of documentaries like this one. After Cheer, I wanted another “real life” show instead of watching another sitcom/drama, so I would love some more recs!! Which other ones do you love on either Netflix or Prime? If you haven’t checked out The Pharmacist, it will open your eyes about the opioid epidemic here in our country. So far, I’m really into it!!
Speaking of movies…
…on Saturday night we finally saw Little Women! I only had K and M that night (because Andrew and Smith were out of town and Ashby was spending the night with my mom), so we decided to see it before it left the theaters. I’m not a huge Little Women fan (I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like it…but some ladies are die hard fans), so my bar wasn’t set super high. That being said, I really liked it!! I mean…I cried…but I liked it 😉 .
Well, I have to say this was a favorite of mine this week…
…awe! I felt so encouraged and inspired by all of your comments regarding both my hysterectomy post and my hormone replacement therapy post. It’s so nice to know you’re not alone on an island, but that other women out there are going through the same things you are too.
Awe! After church on Sunday, we were running errands and decided to stop for an impromptu photo shoot…
…so sweet, right?!
Last night, I attended my first middle school parent meeting. Guys! It went by TOO FAST!!!!
Someone come over here and hold me.
One last random little pic. On Sunday, it was GORGEOUS out, so we walked to Starbucks. Today, it’s in the 40s. That darn warm weather always gets me excited 😉 .
Last but not least, this isn’t a recipe, just a fun little swap and/or g-free idea…
…we always make Haystacks around the holidays, so this year, we had to find a new way in order to make it gluten-free. We used Cheerios 🙂 . Delish! You can see the recipe HERE.
That’s it for this Friday! I hope you all have the best weekend!!!! xo

You are probably aware, but others may not be: some brands of butterscotch chips are made with barley, which means they aren’t gluten free. My dr has told us to use the acronym BROW when checking labels: barley, rye, oats, and wheat.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!!! I’m always so thankful for reminders though!! Finding it in condiments has been the hardest part (for me) of locating gluten.
Erika Slaughter says
Okay!!! I’m watching The Pharmacist tonight! I’ll keep you posted! #youknowiloveadocumentary
Sheaffer Sims says
Love sweet K’s photo sesh! And I keep hearing about The Pharmacist!!! MUST WATCH.
Lauren says
I haven’t watched The Pharmacist yet, but it’s in my list.
I would recommend reading the book Dopesick by Beth Macy though, if you’ve enjoyed the documentary about the opioid crisis.
It’s a GREAT book about the crisis in VA and WV, actually talks about my hometown and the surrounding HS to mine. Actually connected a lot of dots from when I was in HS.
Lisa says
McMillion$ docu-series on HBO – phenomenal! Totally recommend and now I’m thankful I have a documentary to watch while I wait for the next episode on Monday! The Pharmacist is happening tonight, thank you!!
Rachel Kinneberg says
Can you tell your weather to be gorgeous the 27th to the 2nd!! This ND girl is coming to Dallas for NCA (largest competitive cheer comp in the world). We have had a brutal weather and I really need sunny and warm! I’m also excited to see Dallas for the first time. Wish I could meet you, your friends and come see your cute town.
Mix and Match Mama says
I hope you get it!!!

Being a pharmacist myself and seeing this first hand on a daily basis is sad! I totally got sucked in to the documentary as well!! ?
Christen says
McMillions on HBO is fascinating.
Brenna johnson says
We love the haystacks too. I have used gluten free pretzel sticks as a substitute before.
Jenny says
You are sad it’s in the 40s in TX but in MN, our weekend temps are forecasted to be NEAR 40 and all of the meteorologists on tv are calling it shorts weather!? It’s all relative, right?! Have a great weekend!
Mix and Match Mama says
Hahaha! Amen to that!!

I love a great documentary. I highly suggest McMillions on HBO It’s so so so good. About the fraud investigation from the Monopoly game. It’s way way way better than it sounds. I’m totally sucked in.

When did Kensington stop wearing bows? SO sad!! 🙁
Was it her decision?
Mix and Match Mama says
She just kind of stopped. She is really into headbands now.
Colleen says
I need advice on how to slow down time! Our oldest is turning 9 and while I am so happy she is so happy and healthy, I am so surprised at how sad I am that the time has goes so quickly. It definitely goes way too fast . Any advice on how to be less distracted when they are around I am all ears! We do make sure that my husband and I take each child once a month for time by themselves, even if that is a trip to the grocery store or Lowe’s but it’s amazing how hard that is to do with a family of 6.
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m sad about it too. I love each new phase, but gosh, they just go by too quickly!!!
Beth Valenta says
Such happy Friday pics! Where is your cute tshirt from in your Starbucks pic?
Mix and Match Mama says
J Crew 🙂
Kristine says
I love reading the comments almost as much as the blog. People have such good eyes. I didn’t even notice the T-shirt until she asked about it…,but what does is say on it?
Mix and Match Mama says
Different cities in Europe 🙂
Leiah says
1) I want to have Mr. Danny’s number on speed dial if I’m ever in trouble and 2) Can I have Jerry mat-talk me through life?
Mix and Match Mama says
I just LOL!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!
Danna says
Kensington is so beautiful! Its fun but hard to watch them grow up so fast! My youngest is a senior and I cannot bring myself to pick out his senior pictures…and we took them in November. It’s just too real! Hugs momma!
The Pharmacist is on our list to watch. Have you watched The Mind of Aaron Hernandez (pro football player)? Curious. I recently watched the Harvey Weinstein Documentary. So many woman were violated by him. Lets just say I hope he gets time in prison.
Cara says
Documentary recommendations… Living on One Dollar (kids can watch with you) and One Child Nation – shocking! You would find this interesting since you adopted your sweet girls from there(wouldn’t recommend with kids until older).
Lindsay Martin says
We watched The Magic Pill on Netflix about sugar/grains. Pretty interesting!
L. S. says
The Game Changers on Netflix was really interesting especially since my kids are athletes. It really made me think about what we eat and how it affects us.
CATHY L BAILEY says
Loved Cheer and The Pharmacist. Already planning to watch McMiillions.
Mix and Match Mama says
Dang, okay, I need to watch that one next!
Colleen H. says
Hi Shay, I didn’t know if you are aware of this blog “Iowa Girl Eats” She is a young mom and has many gluten free recipes.
https://iowagirleats.com/ I have tried several and they all seem very good.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!!! Thank you so much though!!!

Oh my goodness, I’m so glad our elementary school is K-6! My 5th grader has one more year with his little sis! I’ll be curious to read about the junior high experience next year!
Sandy Blitch says
I was in McKinney recently, as my son lives in Plano, but works in McKinney off Stacy Road. We saw that sign KENSINGTON when we drove the back way from his home to his work, and of course, I thought of your Kensington! You have a blessed weekend!
Briana says
So lovely, Shay! I have a question out of pure curiosity… why did you make the decision for the entire family to go gluten free instead of just K? My dad had celiac and growing up, he just had his own meals. Is it to make her feel more included and not singled out?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes, that and also, I don’t want cross contamination. I also think it’s doable for us all to eat g-free at home, so we should. The other kids do not eat it when they’re out, they can eat whatever they want then.
Rachel says
I love documentaries! Most of the best ones are in movie format. Some of my favorites: Won’t You Be My Neighbor, Three Identical Strangers, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, How to Survive a Plague, Pick of the Litter (on Disney+), Dear Zachary, Amy.
Jenn says
My husband and I watched the documentary that Andrea recommended awhile back called Unbelievable. We really enjoyed it! I think it was on Netflix.
Shar Wiebe says
American Factory on Netflix!
SS says
I saw just a part of that McMillion$ and thought it would be good. Now I will have to check it out!!!
SS says
Not a documentary per say… but we watched Ford vs. Ferrari over the weekend. It was good. The start is a little slow…but gives you lots of background info. Our whole family watched it. We all liked it.
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
Love that pic of K on the Kensington sign! I always think of her when I drive past it!

Tracy says
K looks like a teenager in that little photo shoot! Goodness! She’s beautiful!
Sandy Crayton says
Longshot on Netflix. It’s only 40 minutes but a really interesting doc about an innocent guy accused of murder and involves Larry David and a Dodgers game.
Kristi says
Sometimes The Pharmacist is a creepy documentary….and sometimes she’s a fun loving momma from Illinois! Fun post!
Suzanne says
Hi Shay,
Check out Diagnosis on Netflix. Fascinating look at crowd sourcing ideas to help solve medical mysteries.

That kindergarten pic SLAYS me!
Mix and Match Mama says
Me too, friend. Me too.

We just finished Cheer (LOVED IT) and have started The Pharmacist now too! Also we’re getting 16cm of snow here in Toronto tomorrow:( thankfully my hubby just bought a snow blower!! Wondering which sunglasses those are with the gold rims and blue tinted frames?
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh my goodness, stay warm!!! And those are RayBans!
Vanessa says
From Canada here and Netflix content may differ but really enjoyed “Pandemic”, “Diagnosis” and “Little Big Farm”. I’m currently on Mat leave so looking for new series to watch as well. Unfortunately, we don’t have McMillions.
