If you’re new around here, on the last Wednesday of every month, Sheaffer and I host this little linky party where we share what’s going on with us right now. It’s a little food, a little family, a little what we’re wearing, a little what we’re doing, a little what we’re watching and a little bit of everything else all in one post.
Um, so I’m starting to think maybe WUW is cursed.
Kidding.
I don’t believe in curses.
But really, though, I think it’s cursed 😉 .
In January, my WUW was a disaster because the day before Andrew had to have emergency surgery.
In February, it was on the anniversary of my friend’s death.
In March, Covid-19 had just shut down our country, and I had sooooooo many vacations that I had to immediately change/redirect/rebook for clients traveling for spring break.
In April, I was homeschooling.
I don’t remember May, but let’s assume it was not good 😉 .
And here we are in June. I’m living in portions of a flooded house.
Yeah…maybe I should just skip WUW the rest of the year 😉 .
You know what this tells me? We all need Ryan Seacrest to count down and that ball to drop because we’re over 2020.
Okay, here we go, WUW for June…let’s all pray that when we meet for July’s post, things are better 🙂 . xo
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
Well, my family is eating out this week. On top of the craziness, Smith has a baseball tournament this week during the week (wrap your brain around that). It’s the biggest tournament of the year, but the timing is always wonky with you know, working a normal kind of job, so between games at odd times and the fact that we really can’t cook at home, we’re flying by the seat of our pants over here.
2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
Andrew and I keep telling ourselves that we had SO MUCH EXTRA AT HOME TIME this year due to the pandemic, so we don’t need to be sad about missing it now. But honestly, I’m still sad. There is nowhere I’d rather be then home with my peeps.
3: WHAT I’M LOVING:
My new Amazon page!
I’ve had several people ask me to please put all of my favorite Amazon things in one post, so last week, I started working on it and today, it’s finished! If you want to see one big post where I have everything I love from Amazon, you can now find that HERE (or by clicking Amazon Faves at the top of my blog). It’s just one big list, but hopefully that’s helpful to many of you 🙂 .
Edit: Oh boo, my Amazon Page is not loading on my site for some reason (of course!), but I will get it up there ASAP. In the meantime, you can check it out HERE!
4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
A lot of baseball. I love this boy so much!!
5: WHAT I’M DREADING:
I don’t know? Sometimes, things seem really overwhelming and other times, I feel like we have a checklist and a solid plan, so that gives me peace. I’m dreading this in the middle part where we don’t have a solid routine. I love a routine. I also love peace and quiet. We live in a very peaceful house for the most part. It’s all very zen and calm…I like that. It’s certainly not quite right now 😉 .
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
Figuring out our living arrangements. Things are still a bit in the air, but I think we’ll get to live upstairs here at our house for quite a lot of this, and then there are a couple of weeks (not consecutive) when we can’t live here, so we might consider those more of “vacation” times verses “finding a place to live” times. We don’t know…it all is being worked out now, but I’m sure dates/ideas will change as things progress. Most of the downstairs is being gutted, so I’m deciding what (if any) changes I want to make. I’m working on lots of things I didn’t think I would be working on.
7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
Andrew and I are going to take some time off and fly under the radar a bit with the kids at some point. I don’t exactly know what that will look like or when, but this mama needs some downtime with her fam.
8: WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:
A topic I love 🙂 .
I’m still working my way Trying this on Apple TV! It’s so cute!! If you love British Rom Com or Chick Lit, you’ll think this show is adorable too! I believe (but correct me if I’m wrong) that the music is original in the show too, and I also love it!
My JUNE Book Review is next week! Make sure you come on back for that!! I’m so excited to share it with you because it also includes…
…which we updated to include one more…
…so that will be a big day!
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
42 fans/dehumidifiers blow around my downstairs.
10: WHAT I’M WEARING:
Right now, pajamas 🙂 .
This summer, I’ve been really loving J Crew! For me, they’re either hit or miss each season, and this season, they’re a big HIT!
These J Crew shorts are oldies but goodies, but the tee is current (and under $10 right now!)! I’ve been wearing my new Kendra Scott earrings every day. They are so light!!
I bought this sweatshirt for three reasons: it’s light (perfect for summer), it’s my very favorite color, and I work on vacations all day long, so I thought it was perfect for my job. Now, when I wear it, I just want to go on a vacation 😉 .
This top? J Crew…
…as well as this one…
…and this one too!
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
Baseball.
It’s all we do now 😉 .
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
Unwinding. Sometimes, you just know when it’s time to take a little break from life.
13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
Hmmmm…I think that about covers it!!
I really do hope you all have the best Wednesday! I am going to take tomorrow to catch up on life, but I will be back here on Friday. See you then!! xo

Beth Knecht says
Girl, you need a vacation!!! Sending you so much love and wishing for a bright, sunshiney day for you!
Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams says
I hear you Shay, I need down time from the down time lol. Again, I am so sorry to hear about your house and continue to pray for your family. Hoping you guys get a reprieve from all the craziness soon!
I agree that J.crew can be hit or miss but I am loving their tees this summer too. It makes outfits easy since we aren’t going anywhere that much. Hope your week gets better!

Hi Shay! I’m so sorry about the flooding at your house! I really admire your positive attitude, I would be a mess! Was the wall with all your kids birthday signs ruined? ? I hope not!!
Mix and Match Mama says
That wall is thankfully upstairs!!!
Christe says
We also had our house flooded a couple of years ago. Living with those fans felt like we were constantly on a runway at the airport! Prayers for you and your family!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m going to think of that all the time now! YES! A runway at the airport!!! 😉
Grier says
Do y’all have a plan for the additional room being built upstairs? Kids game room? Play room?:)
Mix and Match Mama says
Yeah, we have plans for the whole upstairs project (and now downstairs too!). #sigh
Lauren says
Yes, a vacation needs to be in your near future. Praying the repairs go quickly and smoothly. You’re handling this so well. I’d be a puddle of mess in this situation. Good luck!
Katie Compton says
Did the flooding affect your new kitchen remodel??? I’m hoping not!!
Mix and Match Mama says
For the most part, no. New floors, new paint, maybe new cabinets…but the hardware and lights are fine!
Kristen Smith says
I was wondering the same thing! So glad to hear that! Everything you updated looked so beautiful!
Dana says
Enjoy your breaks! I’m sure you get a lot of rude comments, but please know that we all care about you and your family so much. We all (our family at least) miss you when you’re away, but you need the break I’m sure.
Also, all those shirts are super cute!!
Sheaffer Sims says
That VACATION sweatshirt was made for you. First of all, VACATION. Second of all, THE PERFECT SHADE OF GREEN!
Elspeth says
If anything good has come from all this, it’s the extra family time. Every season of life is busy, keeping you and your family in my continued thoughts.

I guess I missed your flood! when did this happen? We also had a flood a few years ago, definitely tries your patience! I pray you will get taken care of!
Mix and Match Mama says
Friday night into Saturday morning. Thank you for your prayers!!!
Natashajk says
Did you hear MLB is back and will start on July 23 and 24?!?!? I’m really excited about that! Hopefully that will help make your July a little more fun 🙂 Hang in there Shay.
Mix and Match Mama says
I did see that!!!! An abbreviated season is better than no season at all!
Emily R says
We are on a road trip to see national parks out west, because we said we would always try this but here we are with COVID and just went for it. Yellowstone/Jacksonhole are ?… just an idea for one of your weeks.
I know you like to listen with things in background and for a podcast idea — “In the dark” season two is amazing investigative reporting on the ongoing case from 1996 for Curtis Flowers. Deals with race/justice system and I was tearing up (in good way) in last episodes. I am encouraged by his faith and his family’s faith. It’s riveting!
P.s. Yes, you’re fine but you have been such a trooper!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you so much, Emily!! So many great ideas for me!!!
Veronica Wolf says
I agree that WUW is cursed! What’s my curse for this month? Just tested positive for Covid. Your blog is a light in my Covid world right now. Please all be careful! Cases rising in Texas is no exaggeration.
Rachel Embery says
Shay, you probably have an idea already but if I were you I’d load up the car and come on up to Colorado. Colorado Springs is a wonderful place for a few nights and then I’d suggest heading to the mountains. Breck, Vail, and Crested Butte are my 3 summer favorites. Steamboat is a close 4th. Salida is a nice artsy town for a night as well. The kids would love Mt. Princeton got Springs. So many fun low key things. Planning ahead you can still eat out. Hike, bike(e-bikes are all the rage now in the men’s), and hot springs are always a bonus. Cool fresh mountain air. If you want I have plenty of great local tips. Come to the mountains!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you for the invite, Rachel!!! We LOVE Colorado!
Sandra Miller says
Do we have to quarantine for 14 days or can we vacation in Colorado from Texas?
StephTheBookworm says
Aw, I’m missing the time at home too now that I’m back at work.
Flooding?! Oh no, I am so sorry you’re going through that right now!
Carol says
So sorry that your house flooded. Just read about it. Prayers that the repairs are speedy so that your family can enjoy the summer. I wasn’t going to admit that I had ordered a mug for fall, but since you said something about being excited for putting out pumpkins—Check out Amazon’s “It’s Never Too Early for Pumpkin Spice Mug, ” Mine came today and I am so looking forward to using it— and maybe even sooner than normal this year. Keep positive and know we are all with you.
Annie Lieberman says
So excited to see White Fragility on your book list! I’m halfway through and it is…eye opening to say the least. I also recommend watching 13th on Netflix. Ava DuVernay is so brilliant and it’s such a compelling documentary. Anyway, thank you for using your platform for change. It’s so encouraging to see so many voices step right on up.
Kelly says
What size are you wearing in the green vacation shirt?
Mix and Match Mama says
xsmall
Sarah G says
Shay- I am so sorry to hear about your beautiful home! But you are so right. It’s just stuff. Thankful your family is all okay. If it was rain water, was any of the upstairs damaged as well, or the new construction area?
Mix and Match Mama says
Upstairs wasn’t damaged…they are having to repair areas of new construction right now too.
Joanne says
I’m sure you are feeling quite stressed with everything that’s on your plate right now but it sounds like you are handling it remarkably well. Wishing you the best as you navigate through all this home stuff…
Katie says
I feel so silly asking this when you are obviously going through SO MUCH. It’s been awhile since I’ve tried J.Crew and now I am tempted. What size are you wearing in their tank tops? Do you think they run TTS?
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s okay! I’m wearing xs and yes, TTS. Have a great day!!
Robin OSBORNE says
You mentioned pencils when talking about school at home this spring. I have one word for you…TICONDEROGA. As a retired teacher with 28 years of experience teaching first grade and kindergarten no other pencil brand compares. They sharpen easily and consistently, the erasers work well and don’t randomly pop off. Believe me, when and if your kiddos go back to school in the fall their teachers will thank you.
Also sending all the positive thoughts to you and yours as you deal with your house issues.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Dazzle says
Yeah its been tough time but lets hope everything gets back to normal. But during this time you had been great survivor.
