Friday Favorites!


It’s Friday!

Anyone else super excited that the weekend is almost here?  I sure am!!!!

Okay, I thought this was super funny this week.  One morning, I ran over to Sherwin-Williams to pick up quart-sized containers of paint samples.  The lady helping me was SO sweet and SO informative, but about halfway through our little chat, she stopped me and said “who is they?”.  Bahaha!  “They” is YOU!  I had my list of the top 10 paints you guys recommended on my phone and I kept saying things like “they said since I like Kilim Beige, I will like this too”.  So then, after she said “who is they”, I had to be all “um, my friends on the internet who I turn to for advice on just about everything”.  I’m 100% positive, she thought I was crazy BUT I did leave with five samples that I painted on my walls and now, I’m deciding which one is the winner (all thanks to YOU!).  Call me crazy, but I sure do depend on my “they”. 🙂

I’m super excited about this first fave…

…our backyard fire pit area is finished!  Listen, the inside of my house might be a disaster, but at least, this area is nice 🙂 .

Another favorite of mine this week has been…

…my new door mirror!  I ordered it off Amazon and loved it so much, that I bought two!

I bought the gold one for our guest bedroom door and then a black one for Kensington’s door (the little girls already had a full length mirror in their room).  I was really impressed with the quality of this when it arrived!  It also comes in white too!

I want to make sure everyone saw this from last week…

…I was so thrilled with how our first Shay’s Summer Book Club went!!  If you missed it, check out THIS POST where I not only review our four books from last month, but then in the comment section, we had so many really thoughtful book club convos about all four of them.  I am so excited that we’re doing this again in July too!  Our books for right now are…

…both of these!  I only picked two books this month because I really hope everyone reads both of them, so I thought two was an easier number than four.  I love, love, love our book days 🙂 !

Okay, friends, I am loooooving this…

…thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who told me to binge watch it on Netflix!  I just started season two!

A few thoughts:
1: It’s kind of like a 2020 version of Beverly Hills 90210.
2: I could look at Taye Diggs all day long.
3: I have never seen a prettier cast of characters on TV.  Ever.  #helloolivia #andlaura #andtherestofthem
4: I had some people tell me that my older kids could watch this too, but I don’t think they’re quite mature enough as every episode handles some sort of really serious topic (which I love!), but my kids might not be quite hold enough for the content.
5: Does anyone know when season 3 comes out?  I haven’t enjoyed a show this much in a long time!

Speaking of which…

…I also watched this 1½ hour documentary on Netflix and loved it too!!  I thought it was absolutely fascinating about the life and work of songwriter David Foster.  He has pretty much written every song ever recorded 😉 .

Okay, I almost hate to post this because the sizes are really picked over, but I LOVE this dress…

…it’s from Target and only $15!!  It comes in other colors, but again, they’re limited.

In case you see this dress in store or your size is available online, it’s a fave of mine for sure!  I wore it twice this week!!

Okay, last but certainly not least…

    I HIGHLY suggest the documentary Lenox Hill on Netflix. 8 episodes (I think) so so good. You get so sucked into the Dr.s and patients. It’s so good.

    Yes yes yes to All American! Taye Diggs is ? and all of the cast members are amazing actors. I read that season three will premier on the CW in January!

    I started watching All American as well and can’t stop!!! I just had my second baby and have been spending a ton of time nursing, soaking up newborn cuddles on the couch while watching it. Almost done season 2! It is such a good show! I would love to know when season 3 comes out too.

    I love the fire pit area! My husband and I just finished our patio that’s right off of our deck, and I would love to put a fire pit there. I’ve been on the hunt for a good firewood rack and couldn’t help but notice yours…Can you tell me where you got it from? Thank you!

      Good eye!! I literally am asking Andrew right now and he keeps saying “I don’t know? Wood something online?”. He doesn’t understand that he needs to keep track of his sources!

    Love the firepit and dress! What size are you wearing?
    Also our family started watching Alone. There are a bunch of seasons. Old ones on Prime and newest on Netflix. It’s a reality show featuring contestants trying to survive alone in the wilderness. It’s fascinating and family friendly. 😉

        I’m dying over this too! Mainly because I’ll be talking to my husband and I’ll say “my friend told me …. was fabulous” and he says, “what friend?” And it will be a blogger I’ve never met – stops me right in my tracks and I just respond with, “oh you don’t know her”? So glad I’m not alone in this!

    I got a big laugh out of you saying the woman at SW thought you were crazy! I talk about you as if you are truly my IRL friend to my husband and he finally had to just go with it. 🙂 Also, I was reminded how I thought Taye Diggs was the most handsome man ever when I watched one of his movies when I was younger. So funny because I had totally forgotten that until you mentioned it!

    Love All American! Binged it at the beginning of quarantine. I think it comes back in the fall, but heard it could be delayed because of production delays with COVID. I think many shows will have this!

    I’m sure you caught the Taylor Swift documentary awhile ago but I really thought it was good! Her songwriting process and how she handles all the things that come her way…I was impressed.

      Andrew hung both of mine easily! They just screw into the door (without puncturing through to the other side). I was super impressed with them!!

    Taye Diggz was married to Idina Menzel (Elsa). They met while in Rent on Broadway. They have a son, Walker together. Taye wrote a children’s book called “Mixed” when his son realized he didn’t check a box for white or black. Unless triva I don’t know why I know!

    Your firepit area is beutiful and serene. But I’m surprised nobody has commented on the big wood plank in the middle of the walkway?!? I’m guessing it’s there to hold that big tree branch up? Wishing you and the family lots of wonderful memories and storytelling in the firepit!

    I just finished Season 2 of All American this last week. If you think you love season 1…you won’t know what hit you when you’ve seen all of Season 2! I actually liked how there’s a little less emphasis on football for that season. Though I will say, I keep waiting to hear Coach Baker talk about full eyes and clear hearts…

    They did a really good job with characters (casting and their individual development). Did you know the real-life Spencer makes cameos on the show?

    We watched All American too, and can’t wait for season 3. Have you watched Friday Night Lights? (I feel like you have) We thought it was basically the LA version of that. HA! Your fire-pit area is so wonderful. We just got my daughter two of those Adirondack chairs in teal for her little balcony. They are surprisingly comfy. XOXO

    Good morning! I’ve been following your blog for years. So sorry about your home! We are going through similar but to much smaller scale. We just finished having to redo our hard wood floors that I loved. We live in the southlake area…I even saw your mama shopping one day and was almost star struck haha.

    Anyway, since we aren’t too far from you, I was wondering if you have good painters to recommend? The painters that did our home originally aren’t the same crew anymore. We are going to have to paint too and are looking for a good crew. Our home quality looks similar to yours so wanted it done well.

    The Taylor Swift documentary is really good on Netflix and is called Miss Americana. There is also a documentary called Athlete A about the gymnastics scandal that is excellent.

Having an island of peace in the midst of your utter chaos home redo right now is perfect, the best idea, and so needed! We actually have the very same chairs around our fire pit, only ours are dark green! Thank you so very much for being part of my own island of peace in the midst of a crazy life with 9 kids, some of whom are adults and some of whom are teens AND some of whom are tweens, PLUS a 6 year old son!
