Happy Thursday, friends!
Okay, I love that quote up there. I’m in a much better place these days about my house now that demo is over. At least now, I feel like the huge mess/inconvenience/noise/clutter/dirt is for positive stuff (re-building!) and not negative stuff (ripping out). Even though we still have a lot to do…at least it’s forward, right? I would say that each day I wake up in kind of a different place. Most days, I’m all optimistic but some days, I’m really bummed out. Right now, being home is where you are supposed to be/want to be/in this crazy world, it’s the place to rest and recharge/it’s your sanctuary from all of the outside noise…but none of us want to be at home right now because it just feels weird. My goal is to stay positive and upbeat because I know my kids are watching and taking their cues from mom and dad…but you know. It’s all strange right now. Anyway…that’s where I am.
There isn’t a ton to share, but I thought I’d do a little check-in with you.
First…want to hear a big piece of great news????
There is finally silence at my house.
Listen.
Do you hear it?
Nothing.
They removed the 42 fans and 7 dehumidifiers, and I about cried.
I hadn’t realized how much the noise had been bothering me until it was all gone. #allthepraisehands
It was hard for me to relax with all of that background noise, so now that it’s out, I feel much more zen 😉 .
Second…
…it’s been the big paint debate over here. Andrew and my mom keep telling me I need to pick one and stop fretting about it. Ha! There are just so many choices!! The wall on the left is Moderate White (and then again on the far right), then there is Patience in the middle. I put up a total of 8, but cannot decide. We’ve painted several walls but they’re either too gray or too white…both of which just aren’t warm enough for me.
Help.
Our great room floors have been ripped out, but now…
…they’re dry enough to put down the plywood (and then the real wood will sit on top of this). That’s a step, right?!
Speaking of floors…
…the master bath floors are finally gone. I’m also hunting down two new wallpapers (for both bathrooms that were flooded). I “think” I have them both selected now. The samples arrived, and I like them both. Why is picking out wallpaper so hard???? I don’t enjoy wallpaper or rug selecting. Both are hard for me.
I snapped this one right before they put the plywood down in our master bedroom too. Whoop! Whoop! #allthelittleprogressaddsup
Finally, remember the new addition?
Yeah, I forgot about it too.
Here is a before pic of the back of my house…
…and now, here is the after…
Lots of progress with that upstairs space!
Whew! A little bit of house lately for you guys.
I hope you all have a great Thursday! Sending you each so much love! xo
Lauren says
You’re doing a great job staying positive Shay! I’m keeping you and your family in my prayers daily. When this is all said and done I’m sure you will have learned a lot, and maybe you’ll see why God decided to give you this particular challenge.

Natural Linen, Alabaster
Liz says
I second SW Natural Linen!
KAnn says
My entire home is SW Natural Linen and Alabaster. Love it!
Jill says
Natural linen!! I see others suggested this as well. Give it a try
Susan Krivsky says
Yes. Malabar is next darkest after natural linen and what we are doing for more warmth.
Pamela Milogradov says
Have you tried Accessible Beige? It is a great warm Greige or Repose Gray? I work for a builder and am a designer-we use those colors frequently:) It’s going to be beautiful no matter what!
Whitney Fuller says
I love SW perfect greige. I have very creamy trim color and it works.
Kristy says
Another vote for accessible beige – this is all over my house and i won’t ever tire of it! It is *the* perfect warm neutral greige. I also recommend cutting it in half – i swear that is the secret to paint! 😉 Good luck!!
Beth Knecht says
So happy forward progress is being made! I love your making the most of it! I hope today is a good day!
Dana says
Looks like it’s progressing nicely! I can’t wait to see what wallpaper you pick. I did a bunch of wallpaper in our house (in the closets to replace the original from the 60s). I loved picking it! The store had a free coffee and tea machine and I would treat myself to an earl grey with cream and sugar while I looked through all the patterns. And I was little kid-free so it was nice and quiet. I admit it was a little stressful with all the choices, but I love seeing all the beautiful patterns. I especially love a beautiful floral. 🙂 And I guess you subconsciously influenced me because a few years ago we did a living room wall and then I saw your bathroom and it was so similar! So funny and I still love it.
Carly says
Accessible Beige ALL DAY LONG!!!!!!! Maybe you tired it in the 8 samples but if you did not please do. Also if you tried and dismissed it, please, please try again in another light. It has the warmth you need but will reflect a grey tone without being grey, still light in color so it’s fresh and will combine all your colors so well with warmth. We used to live in Southlake, but no longer in TX but if I was still there I would drive by and drop some paint boards off to convince you this is the right choice. I have used it to combine taupe’s, and grey tones in many, many homes. I can send pics done in a home with all those tones. All the other color samples are nice, I personally don’t like any them you pictured. I follow a rule in decorating, if you are unsure of a choice you know you have not made the correct one. So go back to drawing board until you are comfortable with your choice, then you know you got it right. Don’t listen to the advice of just pick one, paint color is SUPER important and you need to be happy with it. Good luck!
Wanda says
I absolutely agree with her! SW Accessible Beige combines taupes, greys, beiges, cool and warm – seamlessly. It’s a chameleon; it changes colors throughout the day and blends into whatever is near it. Get a sample can. You will love it!
Bethany B says
I agree also with the Accessible Beige color and have it in my house. I started with 2 rooms and now have it all over my house. I have a lot of natural light in my house and even had it darkened by 25%. It’s a great warm color, and freshened everything up! My mom and sister added it to their own homes, without much natural light and it looks great!
Jessica says
Your house is so beautiful and you’ve been such a trooper with all this. Question….did you lose light upstairs with the addition? With the before and after picture it looks like you won’t have some of the upstairs windows you used to have?
Mix and Match Mama says
No, there are really big windows going in all across the back 🙂 .
Erica S says
So we did not have destruction of our dream home, like you, but we did just sell our beautiful home of 8 years (which for us is the longest we have ever lived in a house) and moved into a rental. The rental is teeny weeny, we can’t find ANYTHING (I am literally wearing my husband’s pants right now – and he’s about Andrew’s size or bigger), we have eaten take out for every single meal for 6 days now, and I have cried at least once a day for a solid week, maybe 2 (and sometimes have full-on temper tantrums). We will be building but can’t even get that going yet for a variety of reasons. So, different circumstances, but I feel very similar to you right now. I’m trying to stay positive too, and seeing you do the same is helping me! Good luck!
Keisha Dawson says
Erica,
I just wanted to say that I feel for you so much! We sold our dream home, to build again back in October. We’ve been in a teeny rental since then, and we just broke ground on our new home last week. I cried and threw fits through the new year. Standing in solidarity with you! -Keisha

DANIELLE RIGG says
I like the moderate white. We just repainted our house and used BM – Tundra. It is a light grey but looks great. Everything is bright and clean now. When we bought the house the people had darker colors and it was a total of 6 colors. Way too much for me. I like all one color and then bedrooms can be different.
Katie McCann says
Shay, I don’t want to make the paint situation more complicated. But it sounds like what you want is Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Grey. It is warm but grey, but not too grey at all. Give it a try, it is so versatile. We used Sherwin Williams paint and they color matched the Benjamin Moore.
Kelly J Buffington says
Agree! This is what we have used throughout most of our home and 8 years later, I still love it!
Anonymous says
I was also going to suggest Edgecomb Gray or Cedar Key. Both are Benjamin Moore but can be color matched to any paint brand. Both are warm and yet modern.
Stephanie Sanders says
Love Edgecomb Grey too and we have it in all our bedrooms except the master bedroom which is 25% Chelsea Gray. The perfect “graige” (gray/beige combo) to me is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. We’ve used it throughout our past 2 homes and still love it.
Meghan says
I love edgecomb grey!!! That was my suggestion too!!
Amy Scott says
Did you try Egret white or agreeable gray by SW? The designer there said that these two colors are super popular so I basically went with those for whole house. It’s hard because the lighting looks different all through the day but these are really nice.
Cyn says
I love SW Agreeable gray and Repose gray! Good luck! I tried 15 different samples!
Alexa says
I am looking at paint colors right now too and agreeable gray is my top choice! Do you feel like it is a chameleon type color that changes with the light? Our house is open but dark so I feel like the current paint color is always changing, and I’m not sure if I like that or not…but our floors are tan so I feel like I need something that will look gray but go well with tans and browns.
Skyla says
Agreeable gray!! My dark browns go with it, my grays go with it, my camel color leather goes with it.
I really wanted my walls white, but having little kids, that did not seem like the smartest choice. Ha! Agreeable gray.
Lisa says
My house was Kilim Beige for years and when I recently upgraded to the gray trend, I had SO MUCH trouble deciding! Grays are hard–some look blue, some look green, it’s crazy! I also love the warm/cozy feel of beige and that is harder to find with gray as they can come off cool. Anyway, my point is, my designer helped me pick a perfect warm gray that was SW “Roycroft Mist Gray”–don’t know if that helps or make things more complicated! Hopefully it helps 🙂
Rene' Pingel says
My vote is Moderate White. From my computer, it looks like a light gray. I use Sherman Williams French Gray and love it. That’s my pick.
Nichole says
Have you tried City Loft or Canvas Tan? Both are SW colors. City Loft is a little more gray, but it’s still warm.
Tracy says
Have you considered using more than one paint color from the same swatch? Walls that get less light could have a lighter color and walls that get more light would have a darker color. A friend of mine did it and I thought it turned out great.
Peggy says
I’m not sure if you know about samplize (samplize.com) but you might want to try their samples. They are peel and stick paint samples and people rave about them.
Paula says
One day at a time! Your kids are learning so much throughout this process. Kindness, patience, good attitudes, grace…..good stuff in the midst of hard! Prayers continue, Shay. BTW…I like #2. Tad warmer.
Sandy says
I just went through the same thing re-doing my bedroom! I bought 8 sample paints and painted different sections and the light makes such a difference in changing the tone. I was looking for a greige but not with green or purple undertones. Try the color: Discover by Pittsburgh Paint. It is perfect, warm greige. It is beautiful and perfect!
Lindsey Stromberg says
Keep smiling! Try Revere Pewter, Benjamin Moore. It’s the warmest gray you get get according to our painter and we love it!
Amy says
I was going to say exactly this. Revere pewter is a wonderful WARM gray! I love it!!
Chelsea says
Agree! Revere Pewter the best neutral! Not too gray and not too beige. It looks good in all lights, which true greys totally change the tones in all different lights. We have it in our master bathroom and now our living room.
Andrea says
Yes to Revere Pewter!!
Patrice Bennett says
I just want to send big big hugs!
Amy Crowell says
Yes to Revere Pewter! It was a great choice when I wanted to change toward the grey trend but still lean toward warmer “griege”. I’ve used it on walls and kitchen cabinets too.
Kristen says
Try Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. It’s grey but much warmer as a greige. I’m the same way, I like grey, but always prefer a warmer color. I tried to have Sherwinn Williams color match but it wasn’t the same (and I usually use their paint as well). Give it a shot! I think you’ll like it!
Staci Hays says
I have and love Revere Pewter…..especially because it tends to pick up the tones in the room. I discovered this at The Grand Bohemian in Ashville. It was so popular the concierge had a sheet with all the paint colors used throughout the hotel.
Kara says
Dare I say.. I like the old color the best!! I’m a warm/tan person in my house, so I say stick with what you love!! Check out perfect greige! It is such a big decision!! ?
rachel says
sherwin william shoji white — must try it!! it’s light, creamy, not white at all.
Monica says
I used Sherwin Williams Macadamia. It’s a warm neutral and goes well with the Antique White cabinets.
Alicia says
From what you said about your paint problems, try Pale Oak by Benjamin Moore! It is a blend of white, grey, and beige. Looks different in different rooms but a blend of all three. Prayers to you and your family, not an easy time to lose your safe space with everything going on.
Jessica Dvorscak says
This is what I used in my entire house and it is PERFCET!
Mindy Tierney says
Love seeing the side by side of the outside. I noticed two windows are now missing upstairs. What rooms were those? I would love an upstairs house tour. I know you have done the kids bedrooms but didn’t think anything else was up there.
Paint colors: my power room is Cream in my Coffee from Lowe’s but SW can make it. The rest of my downstairs is another Lowe’s paint and sounds perfect for you. I didn’t want grey, wanted warm. No yellow undertones, not dark. Just warm tan. SW made it for us. Filoli Antique Lace. I love it. I can send you pics via email if you want. Paints can be so hard. If you don’t love the samples don’t use them. You will regret it after the entire house is done. Now is the time to get it right.
Margaret says
I hate picking paint too! Sample #2 seems warmer to me.
Lynn Wrinkle says
I totally understand your decision fatigue. We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel and I am so tired of all.the.decisions! From cabinet pulls to bar stools to rugs to paint colors to faucet style. It just goes on and on. Who knew? I sure didn’t. The end result is going to be fabulous but the process to get there is a pain. Thank you for keeping us updated. I have used your resources to search for items for our kitchen and I really appreciate you sharing. Keep strong and know that better times and Fall (yeah) are on the way.
Jordan says
Paint is my biggest dilemma right now too! My current favorites are BM Pale Oak, BM Edgecomb Gray, BM Swiss Coffee and SW Accessible Beige (25% or 50% lightened).
Amy says
My whole upstairs is painted with Accessible beige and Aesthetic white is on the ceilings… I love it!! Also a huge fan of SW Sand Dollar with Pacer white on the ceiling!
Staci Hays says
My bedroom is Accessible Beige and oh how I love the ability to lighten colors. I am the paint store’s headache when I walk in.
Erin says
Have you looked at Revere Pewter?
Stephanie Rowan says
Not to confuse you more, but I think that Benjamin Moore – Light Pewter is the perfect color! I have now painted 2 houses in it. Best of luck!
Kelly says
Have you looked at Sherwin Williams “alabaster white”? Nice warm white.
Kelly says
Check out Manchester Tan or Bleeker Beige from Benjamin Moore! I too don’t love gray tones, I think these are two great neutral beiges.
Robin says
We used both BM Manchester tan- foyer, den and dining room and Bleeker Beige above chair rail . Great neutral colors ! Be careful with grays , they can come off gloomy and cold .
Lindy says
Agreeable Gray and Accessible Beige are both great neutral choices that go with any decor. If you want something lighter, more creamy white, I love Shoji White. All SW colors?
Alisa says
So I once had someone suggest to me that I needed to paint the wall white first (or the color of the trim) to be able to truly see what color looks best. Otherwise the paint that’s up there fights with the samples when you’re looking at it and makes it more confusing. Good luck!! Picking paint is sooooo hard. I have a million of those little SW sample containers ?
Jen says
Yes, paint it white first!
Ashley Lewis says
Progress is progress no matter how small!? where do you buy your wall paper from?
Mix and Match Mama says
There are so many places online. I used to go to paper places and look through books, but now, I’ve been looking online. Anywhere from Anthropologie to paper places have them. Order samples!!
Jenn says
Benjamin Moore Bleeker Beige!!!! It’s light, warm, no gray or yellow. It’s wonderful
Jaren says
Paint selection is sooo hard! I just did that a month ago and just sat and looked at the colors I had painted for about a week. I went with Kilim Beige and love it. At least you know how you feel about that one. I’m a warm girl too. I love how you do the wallpaper! I can’t wait to see what you pick!
Ahna @ Hammers N Hugs says
Love the progress shay!! I will share my number 1 painting tip after totally renovating three homes now – be sure your trial sections of paint are on primed walls. You would be amazed how painting directly over old paint can sway a color. I take a 2×2 piece of drywall and prime it. Then paint my new color over that and walk around the house with it. Screw it, hold it, or hammer it into the wall and look at it. Check it out on different walls different times of day as the amount of sun will change the tone as well. Set the square on a piece of furniture that will be in the room. Lay it on a rug. It makes it all so much easier and more accurate! But you still have to choose ?
Abbie says
I like #1 the best!!! I think the other one might be a little too beige for me. Can’t ever go wrong with a neutral.
Susan Christian says
Where do you search for wallpaper? I’ve had the hardest time trying to find a “luxury” wallpaper for a powder bath. I’d love any recommendations you have!
And, I’ll be praying for you and your family. We went through 4 months of demo and renovations after a flood from Harvey. Been there. Not fun. 🙁
Mix and Match Mama says
Online!! There are so many places and I’ve been buying samples from them. Let me get a list together and I’ll share!!
Lori Sharp says
I admire your faith and ability to stay positive through all the things you share with us.
A “wallpaper shopping places” list sounds fantastic too! I don’t
know where to start looking.
Meredith says
Finding the right paint color is maddening! Have you looked at Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams? We absolutely love it. The color changes with your lighting and decor and can look gray or taupe or somewhere in between. It’s perfect and welcoming.
Monica says
Progress! Why do you have to choose a different paint color? Go with what you loved before!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t have to, but I feel like I’m living through a storm and want to come out on the other side to sunny weather, you know? Change might make me feel like it’s worth it?! #thatswhatikeeptellingmyself
Deb says
We painted our entire home interior a year ago. I really wanted to lean towards a greige, but, every “popular” color I chose was too “cold”. After approximately 15 different paint samples, and a month of fretting, I finally chose Kilim Beige. ? I know that’s not helping you, but, we absolutely love it! Good luck on your search….it’s not easy.
Adrienne N says
I am wacko about picking paint. It took me a year, I bought probably 20 samples, and ended up making my own color by having them tweak “this but make it less yellow” etc. So! My suggestion is to buy a pack of poster boards at the store and pint those instead of the wall. I left a white edge on two of the sides, because the colors look so different against white/trim than they do a current wall color. The other two sides, I painted to the edge so I could see how it would look directly against the bathtub/anything else with no trim. I could carry the samples all over the house and tape them up and stare at them as long as I wanted!
Debra Brown says
Great suggestion. I think this is what finally allowed me to pick colors without driving everyone else crazy. My husband insisted on the painter putting the samples up so he kept having to put them in different places, but the poster board with the white on one side and then color to the edge helped my brain work it out in different lighting of the rooms.
Tracy Doubts says
Hang in there Shay, try to enjoy the proccess. You have great taste..its fun to follow along and see the choices you make. Next year this time it will all be a distant memory.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you for that. xx
Manda Stegall says
On a positive note – now is a great time to move outlets or add in more lighting, relocate cable junctions (if you use that), etc. while the flooring and walls are gone. I have wished many times to have an outlet in extra spots in my home. Blessings that things are headed towards repairs now.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!!!! We’re doing that too!! #mightaswell
Jenna says
I was just in the same boat on trying to find the perfect paint color. Everything was too white or cool grey for us. Finally we chose Sherwin Williams Modern Gray and I couldn’t be happier. It’s a light “greige”. My mom even has it in her entire house. Good Luck & Happy Painting!!
Amy Heinl says
Hi Shay…such great progress forward. I have a suggestion…The two samples that are done on your wall that is still painted the Kilm beige might be distorting the color because of the beige underneath it. Since the other wall is painted in the large white sample, maybe put a sample of both of them on there so you can see all 3 side by side. It might help. At amy rate, I know it will be beautiful. You always do such a great job
Christine says
Hi!
We just painted our whole house two years ago and went with Aesthetic White – SW 7035 mostly. We did some rooms Accessible beige – SW 7036. These are both borderline greys but warm. Check them out. I think you will love.
Stephanie says
Is the entire addition your new office?
Mix and Match Mama says
No, we made the living room area larger, are adding a bathroom…other things too!! I’ll have to do a tour soon.
Kimberly says
Hey! You might already know this trick, but if you find a paint color that you like that might be too dark, you can ask them to mix it at 25% lighter. Or 50%. However much lighter you think you want it. We did my kitchen in agreeable grey at 25%.
Hope that helps! Good luck!
Joanne says
I think flooring and wall paper choices (and even paint!) can be so tough because we are thinking long term. I’m always so afraid that after a year or two I’ll want to switch it up and so I need to find something I really love and will love for a long time. Which then seems overwhelming and intimidating. But your house was and will be amazingly beautiful. Just trust yourself and your choices.
Jenny says
#1. And your doing great. There has been a lot going on in your life and the world. I think you guys are doing fantastic!
Carlin says
I HATE picking paint color. I have learned to go to a colorist at the SW store, explain what I’m going for, show pics of windows, furniture, etc. They are always SPOT ON with what they recommend to me! Sometimes, I look at the color and think there is no way that is what I want, but it turns out it always is!
Erika Slaughter says
The upstairs is looking FANTASTIC!!! I can’t wait to see it all finished!!
Tanya says
I’m a warm paint person too. Not a fan of all the gray paint colors either. We chose Bleeker Beige (BM) and cut it by 50%. It’s a beautiful natural, creamy tan! Still get your warmth, but lightens up your house. Also look at BM windsbreath!!! It’s comparable to SW Pale Oak, but leans more warm than cool, but still super light! Hope this helps!!
Mitzi says
BM – Baby Fawn ?
Ranisa Brletich says
I keep wanting to say “stop the beige. No one wants foundation on the walls.” I google those colors and think, why? Then I see them on your house and I think they look good. A friend of mine had walls that were called hazelnut. I always thought they had a slight green to it. It was beautiful and warm and white-even though I don’t do white. I like my trim bright White with no hint of grey, beiges, or tan. When you repaint the wall a new nice light neutral it throws off the trim color. BTW if you love Kilim Beige just use it again. There are SO MANY DECISIONS just stick to what you always liked. Paint can be easily changed later.
Laura says
Glad you’re feeling better about everything. I hope this time goes by quickly! How are the dogs handling it?
Mix and Match Mama says
They don’t love the noise. I think it’s hardest on Poppy who is used to being in control of everything…like me 😉 .
Mary says
I hope you find the right paint color. I drive my husband insane with it. So many samples, but it has to be right! Is the entire upstairs addition an office? The space seems large from the outside. I cannot imagine what you’re going through. I had a few rooms painted and I was all out of sorts. You’re handling it well. Hoping it goes smoothly. Also, try Manchester tan FROM BM. Perfect tan in my opinion.
Shelley says
BM Edgecomb Gray. SW can color match
SW Neutral Ground at 50% (this will read a lot more white but still be warm).
Our bedroom and dining rooms are Versatile Gray. It reads a warm neutral in our house but it can read on the purple side dependent upon lighting.
(Truthfully, I hate the cool gray trend which is why I think I don’t love most of the colors other people recommend)
Elspeth says
I’ve been thinking of you guys and what life has looked like for you all. So glad you are on the road to rebuilding, but still a long way to go. Thinking of you all.

LOVE that you love wallpaper! My dad owns a wallpaper manufacturing company here in Florida. His father came over straight from Greece and started the company in the 1940s, and my dad and his sisters took over. We had wallpaper in almost every room in my house growing up, so I really appreciate it!
Mix and Match Mama says
I love wallpaper 🙂 !!!
Tiffany says
I just did our great room in Revere Pewter and love it. I spent days/hours testing colors, reading about colors, talking about colors…and finally selected one. First time swapping from SW to BM and I won’t look back. BM’s Aura line has top ratings on Consumer Reports (much higher than SW’s paint). It’s a hard decision. Good luck!
Pam Bryson says
I just did a remodel and used SW Ghost Pines. I love it!!! A decorator friend used in her house and was stunning. Get a sample….you won’t be sorry. Good luck!
Anna Jones says
So glad things are progressing well!! I know you’re getting a lot of votes for #1, but I say go with #2!! You love warm and cozy, and I’m thinking you might end up feeling like #1 is a little to cool/sterile for what you usually love. (Don’t get me wrong.. I love #1, but I think #2 is a nice middle ground!
Sarah says
I just had my whole house painted and was in the same predicament as you. I didn’t want white, but I didn’t want grey. Everything I tried was either too grey or had green in it. I finally found the perfect color in Benjamin Moore White Sand. It truly looks like Atlantic coast sand. It varies with light throughout the day, but just looks great. Good luck!!
Karen says
In California we’re all about the white walls, while beautiful I opted for “Balboa mist” which is a light griege that changes colors on every wall in every room depending on how much light hits each wall. Quite the trend here…I love it!
Ashley Newsom says
Not sure if it’s already been mentioned but try Revere Pewter by Sherwin Williams!
Nicole says
Love Swiss coffee and Manchester tan. I have those colors all over my house and they are pretty in every room. Good luck!! You are doing a great job handling this.
Ginger says
Try SW realist beige or accessible beige can’t go wrong with either!!
Erica Stauver says
I hate to even throw another color in, but we get asked all the time what our wall color is: Sherwin Williams Basket Beige. It is about 8 years old though…
Jessica says
Try Benjamin Moore Smokey Taupe. It’s a great neutral and super warm & cozy!
I think you’d love!
Kelly says
Been thinking about your family and house so much! Also, to add to the madness, I have another paint color suggestion! Anew Gray from Sherwood Williams. My dad is a professional painter so I always let him pick my paint color. It truly is the best warm Grey and really compliments brown and Gray furniture, etc! Every wall in our home is that color because I’m. Boring like that but it seriously goes with EVERYTHING! Continued prayers for a speedy remodel!
Kelly says
*Sherwin! Not Sherwood
Amber says
I just painted a room in my house with Patience, and it’s beautiful!! But it does look different than your sample does. I primed my walls first and I think that definitely lightened it up. Good luck—you won’t go wrong with any of those shades!!
Kathy Wood says
Oh Shay, when I heard you talk about cream I couldn’t help but giggle because I totally understand! From one cream person to another. Cream is not beige. Cream is not off white. Cream is not light grey. I feel ya. Yes, we have to stare at it. Yes, we have to fret over it and then we second guess ourselves. I’m updating my bathroom rugs right now and I want my cream background. I decided a couple of days ago that I plan to tip the sweet lady helping me. Samples samples to find the perfect cream. Still a work in progress. ?♀️
Claudia says
Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige is warm but a bit cooler than Kilim Beige. I went with Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter in our house and love it. I also considered Edgecomb gray.
Sheaffer Sims says
The back of the house looks AMAZING! That’s some huge progress!!!
Melissa P says
Hi Shay! I have a question about your pool….we are currently designing one for our backyard. What are the depth dimensions of yours? 3 feet down to 4 feet, or does it go deeper? We’re working with a small space, but I want to make sure we have one deep enough to support kiddos jumping in and not getting hurt when the land :).
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh gosh, I should know this, but we did that so long ago that I don’t remember the exact dimensions. I do think at its deepest, it’s 5.5 feet (as it’s deeper than me!).
Melissa P says
Thank you!!
Melissa P says
Also – with regard to paint – when we moved into our house, we had to quickly pick our neutral theme, and I went with a “gray beige” from SW because I couldn’t decide if I wanted to go gray or beige :). We ended up hating it, but living with it for 7 years…we are just in the process of finally updating, and I’ve started with Kilim beige in one room thanks to your recommendation, and I love it!! I also have some large family portrait canvases in outside settings (very similar to yours) that look beautiful against it. I’m sure you’re already doing this, but I think it helps to hold planned photos/prints against the colors to see what works as that makes such a difference. Our “gray beige” ended up looking violet, and it’s been impossible to hang artwork that looks decent against it.

Love these quotes and your attitude. As you know, attitude is everything!! Keep shining your light? Just remember, none of this was a surprise to God! Prayers for Your sweet family xx

My great friend who’s been an interior designer for 25 years said Alabaster is the best white. I hope without all that noise you can finally relax a bit. Noise can drive us insane and we don’t even know it! Have a beautiful day!
Sarah says
Thanks for sharing the progress! I’m fully invested in seeing how they bring your home back to life!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you so much for saying that!!!

You are not alone with the sound of the fans driving you crazy!! We flooded our brand new house the day we moved in last year and the noise of the fans drove me crazy!! I felt like I couldn’t think! I was so happy the day they were gone!! Hang in there!! I am so impressed by how positive you’re being, I was not that positive, haha!! It will feel so good once it’s all done!! In the meantime, lots of coffee!
Mix and Match Mama says
Some days, I am very much less than positive!!!

Definitely #2! I don’t think white walls are cozy and I know you love all things cozy!

The best tip I’ve heard about picking paint colors is to paint your samples on white poster board (1 paint color per poster board). That way you can carry them around to different rooms to see how they look and your eyes aren’t being tricked by seeing the other colors next to each other!
Romi Q says
Linen White by Benjamin Moore is a really pretty color. It’s creamy and calm and looks like soft butter in different sections of my home. We have the same style and my previous wall color was similar to yours. My sister is a designer and helped me pick the color. The ceilings and trim are the same color at 50% lighter. I went for a classic look that would be timeless. It also allows for accent pieces and pillows to be brought in seasonally and not clash with the wall color.
Jayne says
Awwww, Shay, I feel for you! That was my first thought when I read about your flood-NOW? At at time when all we can do is be home? You’ve been so upbeat and strong for your family. Don’t forget to forgive yourself for days when you just need to be a little sad and frustrated. I’m so glad you’re making progress. We just chose SW ‘Alpaca’ for our main house…it’s a relaxing and warm gray. I say look at each color and go with your gut. Which just makes you feel calm? That is your color! And if you haven’t got a sample yet that makes you calm and happy, keep going. You’ll get there!
I FEEL you on background noise. My neighbor had a major tree cut down and every single day there is sawing and buzzing…and it really adds up. Grrrrrr.
Hang in there! And I’m hoping all your readers can help lift you up at this time as you always do for us.

Pretty sure I looked at your blog today to read the quotes and feel the positivity you always radiate. Looks like my bowel resection surgery is postponed, thanks COVID19, since is not an “active” cancer. So much to be learned about mindfulness and God’s timing and not ours. Big hugs from Waco!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh my word, God bless YOU, Diane!!! I’m so sorry it was rescheduled. I know how frustrating that is. I’m sorry!!

Listen to the people, Shay- Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore! ? Would love to see what ideas and color schemes you have in mind for your closet. I am in the process of renovating my tiny walk-in and have no idea what direction to go in.

I’m no help with paint colors, but I am praying for you and your family. I’m sure you will make wise choices since your home is always perfection!

SW Natural Linen for the win! It’s light, warm, not too white and has a natural glow to it that is so appealing!

I have my entire house painted in the Sherwin Williams paint “City Loft”and I would recommend it! It is a white base with beige and gray tones. I like to think of it as “light greige.” It is a light neutral color and goes with everything! I hope this helps with your paint hunt!
Danielle says
Sherwin Williams Pediment!!! Perfect light beige color and goes with any decor.
Sandra Parnell says
I decided to start repainting the room of my house and because I loved the colors you had I tried Kilim Beige and you know what I love it. I am halfway through painting the living room and it already just seems so much more open and inviting. My whole house will be in this color with white trim and cabinets. Even if you don’t choose it again it is helping me brighten my house.
Meredith M. says
SW Neutral Ground is what we used throughout our whole house minus bedrooms! It’s a lighter, warmer color and I feel like it could go with anything. Good luck!

We lost our home and everything but the clothes on our backs and our dog to a fire last Thanksgiving and we’re finally moving into our new home this weekend – insert any leftover praise hands! One day I was particularly down about the whole situation and a salesclerk said to look at it as a minor setback for a major comeback. What a blessing that girl was to me that day. So, here’s to your major comeback!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry for YOU, Leiah!! I cannot imagine!!!!

I had an interior decorator over here recently to help me pick paint color for downstairs. Linen White was her choice! I decided to spend my $$ elsewhere but it’s classic, makes anything in the room pop, and never will go out of style. Good luck!!
Angela Shields says
I like color #1. It’s bright and warm all at the same time. If you are going for light and bright I think it is the winner.
Kristi says
We recently repainted our entire main level and went with Sherwin Williams Cream in my Coffee on most of the floor and then Desert Fortress in the Family Room. Desert Fortress ended up being a wonderful surprise when all was said and done. The color is warm but definitely more modern with a warm tone that was lighter on the wall than the swatch showed. You have so many recommendations so I hate to throw more your way, but I did see this video regarding comparing Accessible Beige and the Revere Pewter that might be helpful. It was for me!

Pale Oak is a great color too and I love baby dawn in my house too

Do you have a “fav” trim color…so many different shades of white. (Windows and bookcases”??? You are amazing, do not know how you do it all.
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh gosh! I don’t, but thank you for saying that. Okay, my trim color is SW Antique White!
Martha says
Just to muddy the water try Gossimer Veil by SW. I am at the beach in NC redoing a house post hurricane and a SW colorist recommended it. I love it as it is the “perfect greige” I was told. And it has a lovely warm tone in our bright rooms. Our granite looks like beach sand.
You will not only be thrilled when this is finished but will have come through one if life’s hurdles with a happy family. Can’t wait to see you all so excited about this.

Hey Shay!
First off, I’m so glad things are calming down. I can’t imagine how noisy it was. I love the wallpaper that was in your master bath, I’m assuming that was it. The teal one. Did you not want to go with the same pattern again? Or maybe it just feels better to start all new. Either way, you have lovely taste.
You, Andrew, and the kids are in my prayers. I know God’s got this! 🙂
Becca says
Picking a paint color is SO much pressure! I agree. That said, I like warm and cozy as well. Chic taupe is great. I think it’s by Behr but I am guessing SW can make the same color. Best wishes.
Kate says
Edgecomb Gray is the perfect warm neutral that reads a bit gray but mostly just goes everywhere with all different shades of light. It’s fantastic!!
Lisa says
If you are wanting to go with a grey, we just had our beach condo painted in SW Repose Grey with only 50% of the color added. We absolutely love it and have received so many compliments. I follow Mytexashouse on Instagram and just love her home and this is what all her walls are painted. Best of luck in your decision!

Hi Shay,
Something I love about your home is how warm it feels. I wouldn’t go too white. I know that is popular right now, but I think that the “Patience” on the wall is a wonderful color. Plus, can you imagine living in a home covered in “patience”? Ha! Whatever you choose will be beautiful. You are such a beautiful soul, Shay.
Pam Turnbull says
Shay- so impressed with your attitude!! Your children will mirror that as the grow! Life is not easy and these models will help them deal with what ever comes! Check Young House Love, StoneGable and Thistlewood Farm for great color ideas! I have used lots of their suggestions in my daughters house and mine! They are not all grey, but some greige, neutrals and tans! ? Good Luck!

Number 1 on the right
Michele says
Funny enough I have Antique White, Kilim Beige, AND Patience in my house. (Antique white trim and cabinets.) I agree. It’s hard to find a warm white! I did just paint my living room walls Shoji White. It’s definitely lighter than the trim, but it looks intentionally lighter and so much brighter yet still warm! I love it.
Lisa says
Sherwin Williams Ballet White is very pretty.
Jennibell says
The pictures of the back of the house helps make “the flood” make so much more sense. Looking forward to seeing what you do as the months progress!
Mix and Match Mama says
I didn’t even think about that! Yes! See how the original second story didn’t cover the entire house?
Sandy says
What if you just took your original color that you liked and lighten it up some.
Hilary says
Use SW Anew Grey. It’s the best taupey Gray!!
Courtney says
Soft Chamois by Benjamin Moore. It’s a creamy white!

Hi Shay, I feel for your paint color predicament. Last summer, we were trying to pick a whole house, warm beige color, during remodeling. The best advice I received was to get a package of white poster board and paint two coats of the same color on the board, but leave a little strip of white around all of the edges. (Don’t forget the paint name on the back.) As I was going crazy and waffling on the myriad of color choices, I happened on a website (Kyle M. Interiors—I have no connection) that really helped me understand paint colors—LRV, undertones, room exposure and their impact in your home. It has numerous articles, photos in regular homes, and videos with guidelines to help steer you in a good direction. Additionally, at the upholstery shop we used, the designer told us that the the two top beige colors that she has successfully recommended are SW Natural Linen and SW Softer Tan. I hope this helps. Much success to you in your paint choice dilemma! And yes, this too shall pass!!
Ruth says
I’m the worst at picking out paint colors, too! I want to redo some walls in my house but the thought of having to choose another color makes it a non priority. Happy to see progress is being made on your house!!
Tina says
The Houzz.com app really helped me with paint colors. Actual designers post their pictures and will either list the paint colors used or answer when someone asks. (With Pinterest, I found that many times the wrong color is listed under the picture.) You can also type in and search the color suggestions others are giving, so you can see pictures of them used in other houses. (Side note: I remember really liking Andrea Mc’s bedroom color. It’s a creamy neutral, but I don’t remember the name of it.)
Maggie says
Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray. I painted my entire house this color and love it. When I say my entire house, I mean all the ceilings and the garage too. Great neutral warm color.
Jen says
Maybe someone else already asked this, but you loved your house so much, why not do the same paint and wallpapers that you had already chosen the first time? We recently had our kitchen cabinets painted, and I ended up having the island repainted a second time. That was after carefully painting samples and looking at them for weeks. Ha ha!
Mix and Match Mama says
I just think when this is all said and done, for my own emotional well being, I’m going to need to think the mess/chaos/cost/disorder was worth it because it looks different. I think if 6 months go by and everything looks the exact same, that will make me feel defeated. Of course, most of it will look the same (same furniture, floors, etc), but it would be nice to see some changes and a fresh start after the flood.
Lori says
Hi Shay!
Quick question: where do you hide your microwave? We are in the middle of a big kitchen remodel (by choice, not flood…I truly can’t even IMAGINE!!) and are trying to figure out the best way to hide this microwave. Your kitchen is a dream and I’d love any advice you may have. Thanks so much and I wish you all the best during this new remodel stage. You’ve got this!!!
PS- We LOVE Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter. We get it color matched at Sherwin Williams. It’s a perfect greige!
Mix and Match Mama says
Ours is in the counter (so low). It’s a drawer microwave, so it slides open and shut. Does that make sense??
