Life has been very uneventful lately…just like we like it 🙂 .
Here’s a little look at life lately…
We’ve enjoyed going down to our historic town square for dinner on the weekends. This was when we celebrated my 39th birthday. Pizza and my five favorite faces? Yes, please!
All bundled up and ready to watch some baseball! No better way to spend my 39th birthday.
This girl. She is getting so big, so fast. I love it and hate it all at once.
Then there’s these two! They were so excited about pj day at school!!!!
On “jersey day”, this girl wore her daddy’s college football jersey. That college kid never knew that one day, his 12 year old daughter would be wearing it to middle school.
When you show up to the play date in matching outfits. How sweet are these two?!?!
Bye, bye braces! Phase one for Smith is over and done!! .
Oh these sisters! I don’t know what they’d do without each other. They are just a pair. Always together. Always. If you’re looking for one, you’ll find the other. It is the SWEETEST relationship…created by the Lord.
She came outside like this after her shower. I have no words.
I wish this one would get a personality.
Making magic upstairs! Last year, I started just handing my kids their Christmas trees and letting them do their own thing. The result? IT’S SO MUCH BETTER!! This Type-A control freak mama is learning a thing or two the older she gets. 😉
An updated home post to come, but in the meantime, our “big door” got installed, and we’re so in love 🙂 . It slides all the way down, so now, we can be inside and out…all at once. We had it open on Halloween night and were able to enjoy the entire space. Even though I’m still not at peace with our flood, I’m really happy that when that wall came out, I said “we should make it all one big door”. My theme for this year is “lemonade out of lemons” 😉 .
Peas in a pod.
Smith is working on his holiday music right now. He gets SO EXCITED when it’s time to practice carols and his violin teacher picks the best songs for him!
She is going to give me gray hair.
And all at once, my bell peppers came in. Bahaha! Literally, all at once!
Nappin’ with his bestie.
Speaking of which…
Hat Day at school! I kept saying “can you even see” and she kept saying “it doesn’t matter”. Bahaha!
Over the river and through the woods to middle school we go! I love walking to school with my sixth grader!
She treats that dog like a baby…and the dog doesn’t hate it 😉 .
And finally, after 5½ weeks, she could finally play soccer again after her surgery. It was SO SWEET that her bestie came for the big game and cheered her on. We love that Bowen Slaughter SO DANG MUCH!!!
That’s life lately. xx

Love the new sliding door – such a small change makes a huge impact! The pillows that Madeley is sleeping on – do you have a link for that one and the one next to her? TIA!
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re all Pottery Barn…most from years past but sometimes, they’re still available!
Sheaffer Sims says
Madeley in the boots. I die. HYSTERICAL.
Dana says
I love that big door, but my first thought is, “Don’t you get flies in the house?!” I’ve become the crazy mom always yelling, “shut the door! You’re going to let flies in!!” ? Do you guys not have that problem? If so, what is your secret?! These Texas flies are no joke!
Mix and Match Mama says
Ha! I don’t know that we do have a fly problem! For us, we are always yelling to shut the door so the A/C doesn’t escape. Ha! We won’t be opening it on hot days!!
Rebecca Day says
I’m curious to know who installed that door…I’m thinking of doing something similar!
Mix and Match Mama says
Hmmm…I’m not sure who installed it. We ordered it on June 30th and it arrived on October 30th (so the actual door wasn’t local), but it was installed by people here.
Rebecca Day says
Shay, sorry, let me try again. Since I’m local, I’m wondering if you could share your contractor’s name? Did they install it? Or did the door manufacturer provide the crew that installed it? If so, can you tell me how/where you ordered the doors? There’s not a lot of experience in this area with those types of doors. Maybe Andrew knows?? Thanks so much!
Mix and Match Mama says
Totally email me! I will try and get you the info. I know my builder ordered it and then subs installed it for him (not the manufacturer), but email me and I’ll see what I can find. mixandmatchmama@yahoo.com
Lori says
Could you share where you got the little tree in the girl’s room? Thanks!

Me too!! It’s from Nordstrom and the brand is Burberry!

Today is my daughters first day back in school since March 13th. She is in 10th grade. Pray she has a good day and this new schedule works well for her. The school for now is staggered so she will go Tues-Thurs! I was very emotional dropping her off.
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh goodness! I can’t even imagine!!! I hope it’s a wonderful day!!!!
Tracy W Doubts says
Mades “She is going to give me grey hair” I laughed so hard at that picture and your caption. The “big door” looks fabulous!! Can’t wait for the whole house tour.

We bought those about three years ago from a store on our town square.
Alison says
Looks like lots of family fun! 🙂 Love the new, big doors!
Erin Hill says
I love seeing your sweet family. Is it weird I was looking at that picture of Madely and Ashby thinking I’ll be kind of sad when they’re grown and I don’t get to see their relationship anymore. So I guess what I’m saying is, I’m going to need you to blog forever. haha. I love that you share them with us!
Lindsey says
Where did you get you gold hoop earrings??
Mix and Match Mama says
Kendra Scott!
Julia says
Your life lately posts are one of my favorites! Are the two littles wearing Ugg boots or another brand? Planning to get some for my daughter soon and those look so cozy!
Mix and Match Mama says
Uggs! I bought them during the #nsale!
April Bryan says
Oooo need details on the new door – we are wanting to get one installed and curious where you found the best place to order.
Mix and Match Mama says
I need to get the specific details for you guys!! I’ll do an updated home post soon!!
Karen says
Such fun photos! Shay, your blog is a breath of fresh air in the craziness right now! I had a few minutes to “play” on my phone and went onto some new websites and felt myself tensing up and decided to make my way over here instead! ?
Karen says
Meant to say NEWS websites! See, I really AM stressed!
Susy says
First picture you’ve shown of the African animals mounted in the family room. Is there background on those? I know there are mixed viewpoints about sourcing African animals.
Mix and Match Mama says
I’ve shown them before. Andrew went to Africa three years in a row to build a kitchen at a school and then he (and his friends) stocked it with meat from their hunt. Since then, they’ve continued to make sure the school has food for the kitchen.
Susy says
Thank you for responding.
Lori Johnson says
Love the big doors. What kind of coffee machine is that in the background please?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s a Jura! We bought ours at Williams-Sonoma!
Lori Johnson says
Thank you for responding!! I have been reading your blog for YEARS and love it and watching your family grow!
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwwww!! This makes me so happy to hear, Lori!!
Dena A says
I love your big door! The first thing I noticed after the door though was the mounted heads on the wall. We’re they there before and survived the flood?
Mix and Match Mama says
They did! They’re mounted on an interior wall, so they survived (went to storage for a bit, but now, they’re back!).
Nikki Merritt says
We’re planning a remodel/new covered porch … LOVE that big wide door off the back. Curious where your patio furniture is from? I’ve heard not to skimp on the furniture for our new porch. Thoughts?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s from Restoration Hardware!
Kathy Wood says
I love free and I love waffle weave shirts. Could you share the link of the shirt you have on in the video? Also, do you remember where you bought your floor lamp?
Kathy Wood says
I meant green. Sorry.
Mix and Match Mama says
Which floor lamp? The big brass one is RH and yes! I’ll link the top on Stories!!
Kathy Wood says
Yes, it was a big brass one and I think I found it? Thank you for the link to the top.

Love it!! I love hearing more about your work outs and eats!! It’s the perfect inspo for me!! How far do you usually run and how many days? Also, what is your go to breakfast and lunch these days?
Mix and Match Mama says
I just did a What I Eat Q&A! You can read it here: https://mixandmatchmama.com/2020/10/what-i-eat-qa/ Right now, I run anywhere from 2 to 4 miles depending on how much time I have!
Laura Fuller says
I’d love a mini concert to hear Smith play!
Heather says
Such a beautiful family! Love seeing your kiddos grow up on here. Plus the doors are AMAZING!!!
Question about braces? How long did Smith have his braces? I am wondering if my daughter will need them when two of her other front teethe come in. So far things look good but I like to plan. What exactly is phase 1 for braces?
Mix and Match Mama says
Right at one year. He’ll do phase two later, but that was phase one.
Liz Thorson says
Such a fun post, filled with love, joy and contentment! Here’s to this time of normal days! Each of your children are so dear and special! I love that you share bits of their lives and personalities!
There are no public schools in regular session in our area and many private schools are teaching virtually, too. It makes me so sad for all of the missed memory-makers that have been missed by so many since mid-March, from pre-school through college.
Amy R says
Love this post! Leather sofa Mades is laying on…….is it the Turner from Pottery Barn? considering pulling the trigger on it but would love a real life rec before I do! THANKS!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s actually from RH! We’ve now bought it twice in 18 months. The first one was ruined in the flood, but we liked it so much we bought it again!!
Allena Gurley says
Kensington wearing Andrew’s jersey is just about the cutest thing in the world. Gives me all the feels! My 11-year-old boy is about to get braces, but he’s got all his permanent teeth already so we just have to do 1 phase, yay. They go on in January and the ortho said 18-24 months. So ready to knock that out.
Kacy M says
Ashby and Bowen is the best love story ever – too cute!
Theresa Montoya says
I love you sharing your life lately posts. I am curious, how old was Smith when he got braces? How long was Phase 1? My son is 8 1/2 and braces are in his future. Right now He has a sweet crooked grin. Our orthodontist I believe is holding off until the summer. Things are not quite normal right now. ?
Mix and Match Mama says
He got them last fall (he turned 10 in January) and had them right at 12 months.
