‘Tis Jammy Cocoa Christmas season!
I’ve blogged about this little tradition approximately 4 billion times…
…my dad gave it this catchy name many years ago and now, not only do we do it every single year, so many of YOU do it too! It makes my dad so happy to see all of the #jammycocoachristmas tags on IG!
This year, we had our annual Jammy Cocoa Christmas on Saturday night. We showered, put on our festive pajamas, went and grabbed our cocoa and goodies and drove around McKinney looking at lights.
And bonus…I added more songs to our playlist, so we enjoyed that while we drove…
If you want to download my playlist of favorite Christmas songs for your Jammy Cocoa Christmas, you can see it HERE.
So, off we went on Saturday night…
…jammies, smiles and Christmas cheer!
I love this guy so much!
This year, my drink of choice was a Medicine Ball with “light” lemonade.
The kiddos each got cocoa and cake pops! Kensington brought G-Free Peppermint Joe-Joe’s to enjoy with her cocoa.
This is always one of our very favorite Christmas traditions 🙂 .
That’s it for this Tuesday! If you do Jammy Cocoa Christmas too, let me know!! Also, if you listen to my playlist and love it, please let me know that too! Have the best day, friends! xx

Most won’t understand but I’m not a Starbucks fan – prefer a cup of black coffee at home – but their Medicine Ball….I LOVE! Many blessings to you and yours this Christmas and beyond.
Mix and Match Mama says
You too!! Merry Christmas!!!

So awesome Shay. Traditions are so fun. I must admit though for a moment when I saw your sweet daughter on Santa’s lap my heart sunk no Santa’s this year. But… making the best of our situation. Here in California everything is shut down. No travel restaurants or salons. That cannot stop the joy of the Lord shine through me!!!! Thank you for your positive posts. Bless you.
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m trying, Sandi!! I hope you have a very Merry Christmas! Sending you so much love!!
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
Such a fun tradition! Ever since I was a kid, we’ve always driven around looking at Christmas lights but now we grab coffee while we do it because of your family tradition!

My family would never go for this! LOL. We used to drive around with the kids in their pajamas to look at Christmas lights but several years ago they all informed me that they are much too old to drive around in their pj’s. Such a fun tradition though.
Sarah Langley says
I discovered the medicine ball a couple of years ago and it is my all time fav!!! Since we live in a small town, I learned to make them at home!!❤️
Candas says
We’ve done Jammie Cocoa Christmas since our oldest was a baby! But we usually just drive-through at Starbucks LOL. Then we head to Deerfield. It’s my favorite day!
Amy says
We have talked about having TWO Jammy Cocoa Christmas’….because it is 2020!!! WHY NOT!!????

What is a medicine ball?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s two bags of tea (one peach, one mint) with foamed lemonade and a bit of honey!! It’s so good!!
Chelsea says
Can’t wait for our Jammy Cocoa Christmas! Also I am loving your nails!!
Karen says
Shay, we love this tradition! Thank you for sharing it with us. We did it last night for the fourth year and it has turned into our favorite family Christmas tradition. Ours looked different this year because all coffee shops are only drive-thru, but we still did everything else. So so fun!
Kelly says
We are planning to have a Jammy Cocao Christmas with our grandchildren this year:). I’m going to ask their parents to have the kids ( 13, 11, 9, 7, 5 and 2) in jammies and we’ll pick them up and surprise them!
Sara says
Yay! We will be starting Jammy Cocoa Christmas this year with our almost 2 year-old son because of you all! ❤️
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!!!!!!!!
Leslie S says
Ah! You HAVE to add “The Christmas Can-Can” by Straight No Chaser to your Christmas play list!! (Actually anything by them is good, but the can-can adds so much fun and levity!) Puts a smile on my face every time!
Libby says
Ha! Most times it’s too hot or humid for cocoa, so we stop at CFA and get a peppermint milkshake.
Rebecca Jo Vincent says
Glad COVID didnt mess with this tradition 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Me too 🙂 !
Nicole Harder says
My husband, 6 month old son and I started this as a yearly tradition- thanks to you!! We actually plan to do it again before Christmas. Such a special & festive night! Merry Christmas to you and your family from Ohio!!
Danna F says
Your “jammy cocoa” looked so festive and fun! Glad your hubby enjoys it just as much as the kiddos. My mom has asked if we can drive around and look at lights this year. I know exactly what we will do…thanks for the inspiration!
Ahna says
Haha. Sorry Danna. Not sure why my comment ended up here ?
Andrea Hooper says
We do it too!!! I love it! We get Starbucks and cookies because of your blog!

We did this for the first time this year! Our Starbucks was closed to inside customers so we had to go through the drivethru but it was still so much fun! I think my two year old was thinking WHAT is happening and why are we wearing our jammies outside. haha. We have a drive-thru light show here and while we waited an hour in the car it was worth it to hear her tiny little “wow” at every light we passed. Love this tradition – thank you for sharing with us!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh Erin!! This made me smile!! Yay!!!
Cathy Carter says
I LOVE your Christmas Playlist! I’ve been listening to it when I do my walk/jog! It makes me SO happy! We will be doing your Jammie Cocoa Christmas as usual!! It’s very rare that I don’t buy or try something that you’ve recommended!! (Bible studies, recipes, fashion, makeup, etc.!!!!) I should probably comment more on your blog because I love it so much! Thank you!!!!!! Merry Christmas to you and your family!! ❤️?
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwww! Please do, Cathy!! I’d love to read your comments every day!!

What a wonderful tradition, and I love the name your dad came up with! Thank you for sharing your Christmas playlist, I love them all! Shay, I have an unrelated question, but I was wondering if you could share your favorite Christmas (or other scents) at Bath & Body Works. They are having a sale at the moment, and I need to purchase some hand soaps. Thank you so much, and Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family!
Mix and Match Mama says
I have been buying Vanilla Bean Noel in BULK for years!! I love that scent so much!!!
Dana says
I learned to make Medicine Balls at home and it was so helpful when we weren’t feeling well! Buying those multiple times for 8 people would be crazy, but I found the recipe online. We did peach herbal tea, mint herbal tea, lemonade, raw honey, and hot water. It’s also nice because then we can control how much sweetener we want. And now in the US we have the actual teas they use at the grocery store! It’s a fun little bonus to have when you’re feeling under the weather. 🙂
Deborah says
Yes we found the Teavana teas they use at Starbucks. I only add the juice of half a lemon rather than lemonade. The sweetness comes from our Manuka honey. Tastes so much better! (And probably better for us)
Kacie Ireland says
We haven’t done ours yet this year but have made it a family tradition for years because of this!!! Such a wonderful tradition we have adopted, thanks for sharing!!!
Anamarie Rebori Simmons says
Can I tell you how much I love that you have “Christmas in Killarney” on your playlist?! My husband makes fun of me for having it on mine, but we listened to it growing up and I love it!
Mix and Match Mama says
Smith loves it too!! He’s trying to learn it on the violin!!
Stacey says
Great playlist Shay!
Kelly Davis says
We did this with our girls when they were growing up, only we stopped at Cracker Barrel for fun glasses that make the lights look like prisms (going inside in our jammies- even daddy!), and we had to have (still do!) frosties with french fries to dip in them!
Love traditions, and now that our daughters are older, my husband and I still look at lights multiple times during the season:-)
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwww! Cracker Barrel is at its finest this time of year too!! That little country store is so festive!!
Dawn Scheurich says
Here is my twist on your tradition. I started this last year with my grandson and niece who are just a year apart in age. We call it “Jammie Cocoa Christmas Movie Party”! They come to my house in jammies (this year I bought them “Elf” quote shirts to wear with Jammie pants), we make a snack mix to go with watching a Christmas movie, and then do some type of craft. Last year we did gingerbread houses and this year we crafted ornaments! Of course, we also drink hot cocoa!! Thanks for the great idea—the kids look forward to this and I love the memories made!
Mix and Match Mama says
I love this!!!!!!!!
AnnaMarie says
This will be our 4th Jammie Cocoa Christmas–thanks to you! Just the other day my 7 year old daughter asked if we will still be able to do it. It was such a great moment to be able to tell her, after so many no’s this year, that JCC 2020 is still happening!! Hallelujah!!
Natalie Lyles says
Aw this is so fun! We go riding looking at lights every year but good idea in pjs 🙂 I have that same shirt btw “hallmark Christmas movie watching shirt” lol I love it! I have never heard of medicine ball! Will def have to try! Yay! I love this post and Christmas time!
Maureen says
Where did you purchase your Christmas leggings! Adorable????
Mix and Match Mama says
Old Navy!!
Pamela S Heath says
Started this with my granddaughter’s last year. It’s so much fun to head to the local coffee shop in jammies with Christmas music blasting. It doesn’t hurt that their little town of Fairhope, AL is like being in the middle of a Hallmark movie (the scene where the whole town gathers with coffee in hand for the Christmas tree lighting)!
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwwww! I love this!!!
Katie Compton says
We do this every Christmas Eve with our best friends! My BFF and I have been friends since middle school and our girls (she has two, I have one) have been besties since birth. We live about a mile from each other! So we all pile in the mini-van (hubbies too… who happened to go to to college together!) on Christmas Eve. We make our own cocoa and goodies. But we always get the girls matching PJs. Even as we enter the teen years they still love their matching “sister friend” PJs. Merry Christmas!
Ahna @ Hammers N Hugs says
So fun! I love this sweet tradition! I have a confession tho I spent a SOLID 5 minutes of my life staring at Andrew’s mask? What is on his mask?? I’m sure it’s a sports team or something incredibly obvious but all I could see were gray and purple grim reapers? ? Too much sugar and Muppets Christmas over here maybe ? I’m in such suspense now. #maskmystery
Mix and Match Mama says
Bahahahaha! It’s the Kansas State University Powercat!
Jennifer says
We do something similar but with a golden ticket. I hide a golden ticket under each of their pillows and when they put their pjs on and get ready for bed they find it. It is a mad rush bc we tell them that the polar express is going to leave with out them if they don’t get outside quickly. My husband is outside waiting for them with a hole punch and does his best punching their initial into their ticket and then we are off on our way to stop for cocoa and drive around for lights. The funny part was when they were little they really thought that it was going to take off with out them…even tho the hole puncher was also our driver!
Mix and Match Mama says
How fun is that?!
Alison says
I always love seeing your Jammy Cocoa Christmas. Always looks like so much fun! 🙂

We started this with our kids a few years ago… last year we included grandparents, IN THEIR PAJAMAS TOO! Glad we have that memory from 2019. This year it will be just us since the grandparents will not get near the kids (face to face school makes them nervous). Last year my 16 year old son convinced us that he was too old for jammies but would wear sweats instead. Of course, the girls are all in! Thankful for traditions during a very non traditional year! Merry Christmas to your family!
