It wouldn’t be the holiday season without pinwheels! I’ve mixed and matched this little method a million times. This year, I added pepper jelly to our pinwheels, and they were instantly more delicious. Isn’t it amazing how pepper jelly just makes things better?! We always use this one here…
…from Trader Joe’s!
So, if you’re looking for an easy little bite for an appetizer, light lunch, even a breakfast…this right here will do it! You can even make these in advance and just bake them off right before you’re ready to serve!

Pepper Jelly & Ham Pinwheels
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Cook Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 20 minutes
- Yield: 14 pinwheels 1x
Description
Whether you make these for a holiday appetizer, light lunch or delicious breakfast, they will be gone in a flash!
Ingredients
-
1 (17 oz) box of puff pastry sheets (from the freezer department, I use Pepperidge Farm)
- 1 jar of pepper jelly (we use Trader Joe’s)
-
8 slices of really great ham (I use Boar’s Head Sun Dried Tomato Ham)
-
8 slices of sharp cheddar cheese (I used a white cheddar)
- about 8 green onions, chopped
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
-
Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly spray with Pam. Set aside.
-
Make sure your puff pastry sheets have come to room temp per box directions.
-
On your counter, open and lay out both puff pastry sheets. Spoon pepper jelly down the center of each puff pastry (enough to cover but you might not need the entire jar). Next, lay four slices of ham down the center of each one. Next, top ham with four slices of cheddar down the center and then finally, sprinkle chopped green onions and sprinkle them down the center of each puff pastry sheet.
-
Roll the puff pastry sheet into a log starting with the left side, rolling across the middle (where your filling is) and then rolling to the right. Your puff pastry should now be in a log. Press the seam down to make sure it doesn’t come a part.
-
Slice each log into about 7 pieces and then lay each pinwheel piece flat on your prepped baking sheet.
-
Bake pinwheels about 8 to 10 minutes.
-
Remove from oven and serve immediately.
Notes
These can be mixed and matched a million different ways! You can also prep them the day before, let them hang out in the fridge and then bake them the following day.

You have shared some great recipes lately, and I’m printing them to use during the break, thank you! But some things is hard to find in Sweden… What is pepper jelly!? Is it like mango chutney?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s similar…a spicy/sweet jam, but a light layer of chutney would work well too!

I need to eat these.

Have you found a good gluten free substitute for puff pastry?
Mix and Match Mama says
Nope. I had to use the regular ones to make this version (and then I shared them with friends at church!).
Hannah says
Schar and geeFree both make gluten free puff pastry! It’s kind of hard to find in stores but I’ve been able to find it in the past!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you so muc!!!

I make these all the time. Will definitely try them with Trader Joes Hot & Spicy Pepper Jelly. Love, love it and always have several jars in the pantry. Hope you don’t mind, but I seen Erika Slaughter had posted above. I had avocados that needed to be used so for breakfast this morning I made Tab’s guacamole. I even had a few tortilla chips with it too. (did I just admit that, eeks) Probably not the best choice for breakfast, but it was Soooooo Good! Can we just say that it was Tab’s fault that I had chips for breakfast. It is the Very Best guacamole ever!! I make it all the time.

This is such a silly question but I always mess up wraps and pinwheels. You are saying to put everything down the middle and then do like one big cover to get all the filling underneath and then keep rolling, like a burrito I guess?
Mix and Match Mama says
I put everything down the middle and then take one side and roll it over the middle and then keep rolling (so I’m always rolling the same direction).

Can these be frozen? How would you recommend to defrost/bake? Thank you for the amazing recipe!
Mix and Match Mama says
I would bake them off, let them cool and then freeze them. You could pop them in the microwave for 40 seconds to reheat!
