Hey, hey, hey, today is Tuesday Talk!
Once a month, I link up with Ashley and Erika and share a little randomness with you.
In January, I shared my love of…
…this Dyson V8 Animal Cordless Vacuum (seriously, I AM OBSESSED!!). If you haven’t read that post, you totally should go back and read it right now!
And then in February, we didn’t have power the day of Tuesday Talk due to the snow…so I didn’t get to post that month, but today I’m talking about one of the most popular questions in my inbox and DMs…my ear piercings.
(Insert a car screeching to a halt right here.)
There have been so many questions.
So many.
Today, I’m going to do a quick “here are my earrings” post because even though I feel a bit silly talking about it, so many of you are curious, so I’m going to share. Seriously, this is so not a big deal but you girls had so many questions, I feel like it needs to be addressed, BUT if you have a queezy stomach, don’t like to hear about/see pics about things that are kind of gross, stop reading. I want to be a honest, but honesty about ear piercings can be a little gross, so back out now if you’re not wanting that this morning.
Hi, my name is Shay and I have 9 earrings between my two ears…
…and you ladies have loooooots of questions.
On my right side, I have…
…three lobe piercings and two in my cartilage.
I have so much to say about just this one side!
1: My cartilage doesn’t look great right now because I’ve been sleeping on that side of my head so that I’m not sleeping on the other side. No one panic, they’re fine. They’re a little icky, but they’re fine.
2: I got my first lobe piercings when I was 12 and then had the second piercings done when I was 17 and the third (on just my right side) done when I was 18. When I was 19, I had my top cartilage pierced. So, since you’ve known me, I’ve had four holes on that side of my head, I just haven’t worn earrings in them in a very long time.
3: In December, I went to get my top cartilage re-pierced slightly lower than where it originally was (I thought it was too high), and while I was there, I met and fell in love with Patti (more about Patti below), and told her about how I had always wanted other piercings in my ears but honestly, I was a bit scared about doing it. Patti was like “oh, you’ll be back”. Patti was right because a few weeks later, on Christmas Eve, I went back and got the second cartilage pierced below it. I have two different size bars in there, and they’ve already been switched out. Again, this is not the best pic of them because they’re a little irritated right now.
4: Randomly, if you’ve been around here for a while, then you might remember that my original bottom hole on this side (the one I got when I was 12), ripped all the way through one night the week before Kensington went off to kindergarten. Do you remember that? I was bending over in my kitchen to get tubberware out of a lower cabinet when my earring fell completely through my ear and hit the floor. Followed by a lot of blood. Do you remember? Oh my gosh. I cringe just thinking about it now. I went to the dermatologist and basically for 13 months, I wore mostly studs as it healed. After that, I vowed never, ever, ever to wear heavy earrings again, and I haven’t. If you ever see me wearing earrings, they’re light. They are super light.
So, that’s my right side.
On my left side, I have…
…my original two lobe piercings (from when I was 12 and 17) followed by my tragus and orbital piercings.
Let me tell you about this side (again, I feel silly deep diving into my ear piercings!)…
1: See how nice this ear looks? I’m over-compensating when I sleep to protect that tragus piercing, so the cartilage is suffering but these look great 😉 .
2: I’ve allllllllways wanted my tragus and orbital pierced. Geez, I bet I was trying to convince my mom to let me get these pierced when I was 16, but because of the extracurriculars I did and the fact that I was a kid and I’m sure she realized I wouldn’t properly care for them, she never let me. (Good decision on her part by the way!) Then, when I got older, I had “grown up” jobs as a very young person, so I was always trying to make myself look older and not youthful, so I didn’t do it. And then, I became a mom and well, I didn’t think I should. Buuuuut…now, I’m a self-employed mom who is almost 40 and life is just too darn short not to go for it sometimes 😉 . I mean, maybe these only last a year or maybe I’ll keep them forever? Who knows? All I know is that it was something I’ve always wanted to cross off my bucket list, so now, I can say I have.
3: I got my tragus pierced first and then my orbital about two weeks later. Did they hurt is a very common question in my DMs, and my answer is not nearly as bad as I had imagined! Honestly, they weren’t a big deal at all. That being said…my tragus swelled up after the first week and the bar came unscrewed, so I went back in and Patti (bless her heart) had to fish out my bar and pull it through. I really think I have a high pain tolerance (I feel like you all know that about me), and up until that day, I had always said the most pain I’d ever been in was when I fell and cracked my tailbone (oh my gosh, that hurt so bad)…but as she was fishing out my tragus bar, I almost blacked out. I literally saw stars. So, now, if you ask me what the most pain in my entire life has been, I’m going to say that moment. Give me a c-section any day over re-piercing my tragus. Agh. It was terrible.
So, that’s that.
I’ve never looked more cool in my entire life. Bahahahaha! I mean…this is how I have been walking around for the last 3 months.
Sigh. I fully expect phone calls from both my mother and my grandmother by 9:00 AM. Sigh again.
If you need an ear piercing guide, I like this one the best…
…if you’re wanting to know where I got my ears pierced, then I can’t recommend this awesome lady enough…
…this is Patti and she owns The Magic Needle on our town square. Listen, I’ve been telling you for years that our historic town square has everything you need from bakeries to antique stores, pubs, steakhouses, an old book store, a pet shop, a candy store, ski shop and yes, even a piercing parlor 🙂 . We are an eclectic little square to say the least. I adore Patti and her employees there at The Magic Needle. Not only have I been there for myself, but I’ve even gone with friends recently to watch them get pierced too. She is so sweet, she takes her time, she is so informed and she and I have bonded over more than just piercings. I am so blessed to call her my friend now. I don’t think I’ve hugged anyone outside of my kids in a year, but I had to get a hug from Patti for this pic because just before, she was showing me pictures on her phone of her 24 year old son who is currently serving our country, and she was beaming, I was emotional…everything about her makes me happy.
A new friend, new piercings…what more could a girl want in 2021? 😉
So…that’s the deal with the holes in my head. I received a lot of questions about the earrings, the four that Patti pierced are ones she sells in her shop for the piercings, so I don’t have links for those. The three gold studs that I wear all the time in my original lobe piercings are HERE. I wanted studs that were small, gold and a really nice quality so that I don’t have to change them out, can shower in them, sleep in them, basically forget about them. My arrow necklace is HERE and my moon necklace is HERE (right now, it’s 40% off).
I have also gotten so many questions about my eye shadow, and friends, it’s this palette here that I did an entire blog post about…
…I really just love it so much!!
Sooooooo…tell me something you’ve always wanted to do but just haven’t or tell me something you had always wanted to do and finally did. I want to hear!!!
Love you ladies! See you tomorrow for Let’s Look!! xx

I’ve always wanted to get multiple piercings but I panicked even when getting my lobes pierced haha! ❤️✨

I got a small tattoo on my right inside ankle of my husband and my 2 girls initials In twined together with a small heart dog paw print … the 4 things I love most in life. I did it on my 50th birthday. It’s just sits perfect right above my shoes.
Becky says
I had my Tregus pierced for heard and loved it. I ended up having to get the little ring I wore in it sawed off when I was on the c section table for my 1st. Haha. Haven’t gotten it re pierced because my ears get too funky from allergy drainage now in my older years. Haha.
Kari says
Always wanted to get my nose pierced. At 48 years old when I moved from a management job to a staff job (my dream job) I celebrated and got my nose pierced. Love it. A small sparkle stud. Simple but lovely.
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwww! I bet it’s SO CUTE!!!
Maggie Eterno says
That’s so cool!!! I was just wondering about your ear piercing the other day! I got a tattoo last year. Almost 40 and a mom, but I’ve just always wanted one. Now I may need to look into another ear piercing, ha!
Mix and Match Mama says
What and where is your tattoo???? I want to know! 😉
Renee says
So, are you sleeping on your side now? Sometimes at night, I think, how did Shay train herself to sleep on her back? It seems like it would be better for my face and jaw, but I cannot fall asleep on my back.
Mix and Match Mama says
I almost always sleep on my back, but my head you know falls to one side or the other when I sleep, and I realllly think it more naturally must fall to the right and thus…the crusty right ears in the morning.
Melissa says
Good morning! I am curious about the orbital piercing. Does it go all the way through? Or is it one of those corkscrew earrings? I love the look of it!! Thanks!!
Elspeth says
I love this post!!! You go shay!!

Brantlee says
I have two lobe piercings in each ear. Just curious, are you not afraid the back of the bar of the tragus piercing will fall out and down inside your ear? That would freak me out.
Mix and Match Mama says
Wellll I hadn’t thought about that, but no, I guess I’m not.
Annika Schwenzfeier says
Nose ring studs are my go-to for my tragus piercing! No back required as they have a little ball on the end, which keeps it in place.
Alicia says
I have a Tragus and have only used nose ring style studs that have a swirly screw type hook. It’s only fallen out a few times in +/- 12 years. Stays in really well and there are no pieces to try to attach in the ear. Recommend if you’re concerned with a piece falling in your ear (it was my concern as well!).
Rebecca says
Soo I have very weak lobes and always worry about the tearing of the ear with dangly earrings 😂 what was the recovery process like? Did they recommend anything to strengthen your lobe? Sorry! I’ve just never met someone where it actually tore and that’s one of my big fears!
Mix and Match Mama says
Ugh…it was long and made me queasy. I really think it took about 13 months before I would keep a pair of earrings in for longer than a few hours. Still to this day, I take my earrings out when I get home (that aren’t studs) or even in the car. I really babied that ear like crazy but I WILL NOT wear heavy earrings now.
Nope... not saying! says
I took the plunge and had plastic surgery early last year. Life is short… be happy.. get the boobs (or whatever it is you want)!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Amen, sister!
Randi Jo R says
Sooo interesting ! 😍💕 I always wanted a perm so my hair could have some wave or curl or texture other than pin straight and I tried it a few years ago and it came right out a couple of days later. Ha. The Lord wanted my hair straight for real 😍💕. Hope y’all had a wonderful vacation and anniversary !
Mix and Match Mama says
I LOL! Sometimes, the Lord just speaks to us. 😉
Natasha says
I got my nose pierced when I was 29 or 30 and it has a small diamond stud that I never change out. It’s the only diamond I wear and I LOVE it so much. And it has never interfered with me getting a job. I think it’s so subtle that most people don’t even notice it.
I did get my belly button pierced when I was 31 or 32 and it never healed properly, never felt super comfortable, and I could never ignore it so I took it out a few years later. I would not recommend it.
I would highly recommend a nose piercing though!
Meagan Ruse says
I’ve already been itching to go back to The Magic Needle! Haha! More piercings please!
Jenny Hutcheson says
I have always wanted a tiny nose stud. I feel like I’m 42 and I’m too old. Agh. Your earrings are so cute. I love the Tragus.
Mix and Match Mama says
You’re never too old 🙂 .
Nicole says
do it! You’ll love it!
I did it when I turned 42 and I’m so happy I did.
Paula N says
I got a nose ring last year, at the age of 60, so nope…never too old! LOL
Carlin Smith says
I want a hummingbird tattoo! They remind me of my amazing grandpa, who passed away four years ago. So, here I am, 42, with a daughter about to graduate, wanting a tattoo! 🤷♀️
Mix and Match Mama says
Love it 🙂
Erika Slaughter says
At first, I thought the chart was your inspiration and what you were going for. Ask me if I’d have been surprised if you wanted 27 more in each ear? 🤣🤣
Kristen says
I am 45 and I still contemplate about a small tiny delicate tattoo!! I might have to do it!
L Base says
I am 46. Have two near my hip bones. No one sees them unless I few like showing them off! Haha!
Get one!
Jill says
I gave myself a 35th birthday present and got my boys names tattooed on my feet and I couldn’t be happier when I look down and see them!!!!
Katie says
I got my dairy pierced to help with migraines and I love the way it looks!! My piercer advised I cover my pillow with a t shirt and rotate it every night then switch out the shirt. It helped to prevent infections. It healed beautifully!!! I love the orbital piercing!!
Katie says
Daith* not dairy 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Okay, I’ve heard so much about daith piercings for migraines!! that’s awesome!
Stacie says
Hi Katie – I’ve heard that piercing your daith helps with migraines. Have you noticed a significant difference since getting your pierced?
Liz says
I have a daith piercing and it has helped so so much with my migraines. I went from having them weekly to barely any at all.
Kristin says
I’m a mom about to turn 40 and just got a tattoo in December. It’s 2 small hearts on my wrist for my 2 daughters. I’ve wanted a tattoo forever but gave all the excuses not to do it. I did it, it didn’t hurt (I have a high pain tolerance) and I have zero regrets!
Mix and Match Mama says
I LOVE IT!!!
Kathryn says
For my 30th birthday I finally got my ears double pierced! And it took a YEAR for them to stop crusting because I sleep on my back but my head tilts and lays on the piercing. Ugh. It was the worst!
Mix and Match Mama says
Why does it take so long????
Chelsea says
I just got my first tattoo in August! A daisy in memory of my grandma. I went there straight after her funeral and got it with my cousins! It was a great experience and I’m so glad I did it with my family, it made it more memorable.
I want to get my second piercing on my lobes but they are so thick! I did it once before and couldn’t find a long enough earring post that didn’t bother my ears, so I think they’ve grown back completely!
Mix and Match Mama says
First of all, that is the SWEETEST!!! I would love to have something symbolic like that with my cousins. Second of all, you should go to a real piercing parlor because they can fit your piercing with bars that are different lengths and not “one size fits all”. I think if you had longer bar choices, it would work better!
Alicia F. says
So, how did you heal the ripped lobe? My daughter’s ear lobe got ripped a little (NO idea how) and we have been scared to let her wear earrings in case it rips further. Any suggestions?
Mix and Match Mama says
Studs! The dermatologist (I randomly already had an appointment to see him, so that’s why I asked him in the first place) said to treat it like it was a brand new hole. I started with tiny studs and worked my way up. I put little Band-Aids on there at night as well. My ear has never fully recovered. It’s more like a slit now.
Jennifer says
I ripped my ear lobe all the way through and ended up having plastic surgery on it. Very minor, obviously. But they stitched it back together. Now, like 25 years later, due to heavy earrings, I’m worried it could happen again.
Molly says
What do you cartilage earrings look like? I’ve had my cartilage pierced for years but don’t always find all earrings / backs comfortable.
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re bars that are screwed in by Patti.
Jess says
I just finally got second holes this last summer in my lobes 😆 I am pretty sure my mom and mother-in-law thought I was crazy, but at 36 I figured it’s now or never and fun! Did Andrew have an opinion? I think my husband thought it was a little silly but was cool with it if it was what I wanted to do.
Dana P says
It sounds so painful! I had my upper cartilage pierced in college but finally had to take it out because it was like my body just rejected it. It was always hot, red, and irritated. I also had my eyebrow pierced for a month. I’m still kind of embarrassed about it-it was a ring and just so not me. 😆 Does K have her ears pierced? 2 of my girls want theirs pierced soon and I’m wondering if that’s a good place to go for kids, too?
Mix and Match Mama says
I would say that this is more of an adult place to visit for piercings. My girls all have their ears pierced, and we went to various places (from the mall to even Walmart!).
Alicia says
Ear piercing places like this are excellent for children’s ears. Piercing guns are not good.
Kristin Lyngaas says
I knew you had something hiding under that long hair 😁… Shay’s wild side!! Lol so adorable 🌼
Mix and Match Mama says
I just lol!
JoAnn says
Breast augmentation and microblading my eyebrows!
Mix and Match Mama says
Tell me about the microblading!! I’ve seen it done really well…and I’ve seen it done really poorly. I’ve been intrigued but scared to commit.
Melissa says
Look at powder brows vs. microblading. I went for powder brows in Highland Village after seeing this post by Lauren. I love my results. Only one touch up necessary. Lauren’s results are natural and beautiful.

I always love the extra piercings in my ear but apparently my ear does not…ugh! They always get yucky and infected looking so I just quite trying. Yours look fantastic!
Side question, did ya’ll have any damage to your pool from the snow and freeze? Thank goodness we were able to keep ours running (and it wasn’t quite as cold) but I wonder for those who were without power for a longer period of time.
Mix and Match Mama says
We did have damage. Sigh. It’s alright though. It could have been way worse!
Taylor Johnson says
I just turned 36 and got my nose pierced with a little rhinestone stud!! I’ve allllways wanted it but, like you, felt like I shouldn’t and then I just decided to do it and I’m so glad I did!! I love your piercings….so edgy!! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I bet it’s adorable!! Good for you!!
Annie Seeman says
I got my rook pierced and after a year of it being red and swollen I went back in and she says “Oh yeah, you are allergic to the metal….I can replace it if you want”. That was the worst pain I’ve ever experienced, taking the earing out, so I kindly declined. I wanted to get the daith pierced but now I’m scared.
Kristen says
Wow! This was a fun post. They are look really pretty together. So I don’t know anything about tragus or orbital piercings – can you take them out? Or do they stay in 24/7?
Mix and Match Mama says
Later, I could take them in or out, but right now, they stay put because they’re so new.
Cv10 says
What size are your main earlobe diamond earrings?
Ashley Brown says
Two years ago, for my 35th birthday, my husband booked an appointment for us to get tattoos! It’s always something I wanted to do, but felt like I “shouldn’t” since I’m a mom and have a corporate job. I got a tiny hummingbird on my right side, around my bra line, and I just LOVE it! It really only shows when I want it to, so basically when I’m wearing a swimsuit in the summer. I love that it’s subtle, but that I ultimately did something I’ve always wanted to do.
Jan says
I love this! Hummingbirds and sunflowers are 2 of my favorite things. ❤️
Alicia says
Love this! I had multiple fun ear piercings when I was 19-20 and took them out when I had my kids for some reason. I’ll be 40 this year and decided in October to go back and get one I’ve always wanted, a double forward helix. It’s so cute and I love it. I also want the tragus again and a small orbital hoop.
Amy says
I have wanted a tattoo since I was about 16. Finally got one about three years ago and do not regret it one bit!
Laura says
So appropriate this comes the same week as Jennifer Garner gets her first piercing lol! I’ve always wanted a tattoo but don’t have one. I know an amazing lady who got her first tattoo at age 70 and it looks awesome on her, so there’s still time for me! 🙂
Julie Hicks says
I got my first tattoo at 62 – had long talked about it but always chickened out until my daughter & I went together to get matching tattoos (“Where you lead, I will follow”). Since then I’ve gotten two more and I say that’s it but it’s a lot like piercings. . . pretty addictive!
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwwwww! I love this, Julie!!
Stacy says
Lol! I’m 40 and just got the nerve to get my second holes pierced. I was a scaredy-cat for no reason- zero pain and I love them. That’s as far on the edge as I can go 🤣
Paige M says
I have a similar story to you. I went in January to get my cartilage re-pierced and when looking at pics online a bunch of girls had it double pierced and I thought it looked so cute so i decided to get mine double pierced too. They pierced it with a longer bar but said after 3 months I can come in and they will switch out the bar to a smaller one. I have one more month to go! It’s currently a little irritated and looks just like yours. Glad I’m not the only one lol. Your other piercings looks so cute, I’ve been wanting my tragus done for a while but have always been nervous of the pain but I may have to go now and get it done!
Danielle says
I really love that the reason you got the most recent piercings was because you wanted too! So often I feel we act like that isn’t reason enough. Thanks for reminding us we can still do something for the FUN of it as adults! All the piercings look so great on you! And Patti seems like a delight!
Wannie says
I have a cartilage piercing and a rook (as well as normal lobe piercings), but I have ALWAYS wanted an industrial! I don’t know if I can do it though… maybe I’ll regret it? Maybe it won’t look good on me? Or maybe I should get some stud piercings like yours (which look AWESOME)!! I don’t know!!
Laura says
There’s something so freeing about turning 40, isn’t there??!
Mix and Match Mama says
YES, YES, YES!!
Sandi Kellman says
I love that Shay and I love all the comments of these women in their 30s and 40s thinking there too old !!! while I’m at 63-year-old woman and my husband and I are thinking about getting a tattoo on our marriage finger I am I said that way we don’t always have to put our rings on because I have a ring that I am I like to protect and I feel like being brave in my 60s so I may just do that you inspired me
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh my goodness! I could not LOVE THIS MORE!!!!
Cristin says
So, Im quite conservative and boring with the body/looks department, but the most daring thing I did was quit my travel director job at Indycar, pack my house up after living in Southern California for 35 years (my entire life), said goodbye to our friends and family and we moved our little family half way around the world to Spain. I spoke no Spanish at the time. We lived on the coast for 2 years and then moved to the Kingdom of Bahrain, a tiny island in the Persian Gulf/Arabian Sea between Iran and Saudi Arabia. I am now learning my 4th language…Arabic. Its the most amazing country, and even though I bleed red, white and blue (and work for the US government), I hope to stay in Bahrain forever.
Mix and Match Mama says
Wow!!! This is just so interesting!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!
Chrissy says
I have 5 in my right ear that were done when I was a teen. I haven’t worn them since, just the lobe one. But my teens have been wanting multiples, so I went to see if I could still put earrings in them and yep, the holes are still there. They were once again amazed on how cool their mother is. I had to take them out bc they got hot and red, but I was feeling like a rebel teen for the day…now that tragus you have is total bada$$. 😎 I’m in want of nothing now, but totally believe in-if you want it-get it!
Courtney says
My mom and I have talked about for a few years that we want to get matching tattoos. Neither of us have one, but we have exactly what we want picked out and its centered around my son and her only grandchild. One day, we will do it!
Bethany says
So do you have piercing rules for your girls?
Mix and Match Mama says
My girls all have their ears pierced. I feel like if they ever ask for additional piercings, we’ll have to address that then and make a decision based on the circumstances at that time.
JP says
35 was a big year for me I got my first (and only…so far) tattoo (a starfish with my husband and kids initials) and had Breast Augmentation. The BA was the best thing I have done for myself, it took years of me getting over the “what else could I do with that money” mindset. Being pregnant or nursing for 4 years straight, I had to remind myself I deserved something nice! It has been 6 years and I haven’t regretted either decisions!
Jenn says
Thank you for this! I have been SOO curious about the tragus piercing! Do you know why yours swelled up? I have been wanting to do it but just am nervous haha! 🙈
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t know exactly why, but I think I had one of those “worst case” experiences that’s certainly not typical.
Karen says
I’ve always wanted a small nose piercing. I got my cartilage done in 1984 ~ with one of those guns. YIKES! Question about your girls. Will you have theirs done at the shop instead of like a Claire’s? My almost 13 year old says she is ready and I think we will go to a piercing shop.
Mix and Match Mama says
My girls already had their ears pierced. They each did when they turned five.
Sandi says
I’m 53 and have never colored my hair. Lately I have been looking at some of the fun colors that people have been doing that peeks through the natural color (natural hair color on top and the color peeks through along the back). I’ve also wanted a small nose ring. Being a rule follower I never did anything daring in my teens, although I did get my second ear piercing my freshman year of college after my parents said no during high school. My mom was not happy when I came home for Thanksgiving.
Jill says
Never in my life did I want a tattoo, and then my just turned 18-year old, freshman in college out-of-state son came home for winter break and asked me to come and get one with him. What boy does that??? I had to go with him and I had to get one too. I was 54. Kind of crazy, but we shared a bond that day and is forever a favorite memory.
Mix and Match Mama says
Ohhhhhhhh! This is so sweet and special!!
Meredith says
If you or anyone you know gets migraines have them get their deith pierced on the side of the head where the pain is stronger. My daughter had them multiple times a week so we decided to give the piercing a try before starting meds. She is down to one ever couple of months and they are much more manageable. She was 15 or 16 when I took her- she loves it and it’s something different but also helped heal her.
Sharon C. says
I have two lobe piercings in one ear and three in the other. I have been thinking I want my cartilage pierced and maybe another one as well. But I’m a little nervous about that. I have one tattoo on my wrist of a purple ribbon and my dad’s initials that form a heart. He died of pancreatic cancer. I really want another tattoo. I just can’t decide what I want or where I want it!
Missy says
I had my first lobe piercing at 7 and second at 12 or 13. For years I wore studs in my second holes with no problems. When I hit my mid 30s I guess, any stud I put in my second holes starts to get red and itchy by mid-day. Its the strangest thing and super annoying. My first holes, no problems at all. Second holes, trouble-makers.
Meghan says
I always wanted my nose pierced. Like, since I was 16. Like you, it just never happened. Then about a year and a half ago at 34 I was finally like…I’m doing it. I love it so much and am so glad I did. I might be 80 with a nose ring someday 😉 And also, I dye the ends of my hair pink or purple pretty regularly.
Keri says
I had my daughters’ ears pierced at a super reputable adult piercing salon and I’m so glad I did! Turns out she has super thick lobes and her ears are difficult to pierce. The lady who pierced her was super careful and meticulous, and used a needle which is far preferable to a piercing gun. They did take awhile to heal and I was so glad I had a true professional in that situation. She probably won’t get more piercings because now we know her body doesn’t love being pierced, but I have 5 lobe piercings and a nose piercing that I got in my early 30s after having a tough pregnancy loss when I really needed to do something just for me. I only recently started wearing all my ear pierces after so many years of not. It’s a nice cheer up to look in the mirror and see the tiny/dainty studs.
Alison says
Last year at 42 I got my second hole pierced. I always wanted to so did it. Now I am thinking about a third.
Jeanie says
I have wanted a small tattoo of a puppy paw on my left wrist, possibly accompanied by a teensy heart. I think the only thing stopping me is fear.
Jeanie says
P.S. I’m almost 77 years old.
Kate says
Love this! And you totally inspired me—I have an appointment Friday for an orbital piercing. Would you say the pain for that was similar to the cartilage?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!! You’ll be totally fine!
Tracy says
When my daughter turned 21 she got her daith & tragus piercings…and talked me into getting a helix piercing. It was something fun to do together. She’s already planning more!

I have double piercings on each lobe (I want a third) and a cartilage piercing! I think they’re cute esp with dainty/small jewelry. When you’re not in a glam mood, earrings can make a big statement with a ponytail or bun.

I would love to get my nose done! I’m getting up my nerve slowly…. I’m in my early 60’s and don’t want to regret not doing things. But a nose job is a big step so…. we’ll see.

Shay For your orbital piercing it looks like you have a stud but the diagram shows a hoop earring…are you able to wear a stud?
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s why I picked the orbital instead of the conch…so that I can switch it to a hoop later if I want! Yes, for that position, you can wear both.

This post makes me want to get more ear piercings -except I did pierce my cartilage in college, it got infected and I ended up with a keloid (aka a massive lump of scar tissue) that I ended up having to have cut off my ear🙄🙄. The doctor didn’t even want to do it in the first place because he said the scar could come back worse. Thankfully that did not happen.

Love the piercings! And, breast augmentation for me!

My version of this: the earrings I was wearing last night that if turned correctly, can kind of look like a double piercing. 😉

I got my first tattoo on my 30th birthday, and have gotten a couple more since then. I love them all. I also got my nose pierced when I was 42. It was a I’m getting a divorce I need to do something dramatic and I ended up loving it so much. I wear a very small piece in my nose. I love all the comments from some of us “older” ladies, I say do it! If you don’t like it you can always take it out. Well except for the tattoo lol that you’ll be stuck with. You’re never too old for any of this.

I love this post so much and the sentiment behind it! I a 39 and getting my nose pierced next week. Mom of 2, regular job but I am doing this for me! Also planning to get a small and meaningful tattoo in the very near future. You do you Shay! I love your piercings but more importantly, YOU love them!

How many Carats are the diamond earrings you have in your ear lobe
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re just the right amount 😉 .

I’ve wanted a 2nd lobe hold for 25 years and I’ve never done it. Someone told me once that classy women only have one earring hole and I’ve never been able to let go of or get past that person’s comment. Silly I know, still upsets me that I listened to her.
Mix and Match Mama says
You do you! Classy women don’t judge other women. 😉

Yes!!

Since college I’ve wanted to get my nose pierced. I’ve been told that my nostrils are too small🤷🏼♀️ However this past Fall with my oldest teenage daughter we had a piercing date- she got her ear pierced for the 3rd time and I got my nose pierced – small little stud. I’m kind of like you, I like it not sure if I will keep it forever but for now it’s there😜

I have 3 piercings in each lobe. I am 55. I would love to get a cartilage piercing but my third holes took so long to heal I cant imagine that a cartilage piercing would go well for me. I wish I could find earrings with longer posts. Sometimes my studs feel too tight on my higher piercings. Shay, when my ears are healing I sleep on one of those airport neck wrap around pillows. When I lay it flat on my other pillow I can lay on either side and let my ear be in the center hole of the pillow and it does not touch it at all but my head is on the rest of the pillow. It keeps my piercings from getting irritated.
