On the last Wednesday of every month, Sheaffer and I host this little linky party where we share what’s going on with us right now. It’s a little food, a little family, a little what we’re wearing, a little what we’re doing, a little what we’re watching and a little bit of everything else all in one post.
Cheers to you this last Wednesday of April!!! xo
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
Okay, have you checked out my Meal Planning Monday for this week? You should really whip up those Grilled Shrimp Tacos FOR SURE!! Also, please know that I’m still eating a lot of this…
…too. I had to go back and buy two more bags. They’re just so delicious. I can’t quit.
I made these Buffalo Chicken Wraps for lunch twice last week. They’re so easy. They go great with the pickle chips too!
One more little recipe…I saw these pop up on my feed the other day and thought I should make them again soon. If you haven’t tried these Creamy Lime Pie Pops before, they go really well with a side of May 🙂 .
2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
Awwww! Last week, they asked us to turn in any and all pics of our fifth graders from over the years. I was getting Smith’s pics together and found this one from field day back when he was in first grade. Look how tiny he is! Oh my heart! I love that boy so much!! I was signed up for the popsicle station…which coincidentally, I am again this year for fifth grade too 🙂 .
3: WHAT I’M LOVING:
I’d been eying this for months, so when the latest Sephora sale hit, I thought it was time to try it. You know how much I love Drybar tools…so I had very high expectations, and friends, I love it!!
You get one base and then three different attachments. You get a waver, a traditional iron and then a barrel. Now, you know how much I love this waver HERE, so I was a little skeptical about using this version, but not only do I really like it, I love that it’s a bit different too. I could probably do an entire post on the two, but in a nutshell, this one creates softer waves compared to the other version (tighter waves). Honestly, I love both and don’t think you could go wrong with either, but this is fun because I can bring one tool with me when we travel yet get three different styles.
I used all three attachments on my hair last week so you could see the difference. First up…
…here is the waver. See? The waves are more loose than when I use the Bed Head version…
…which I still love!!!
Here is how my hair looked when I just wrapped it around the barrel…
…love this too!
And then when I attached the traditional 1.25″ clamp…
…my hair looked like this. Needless to say, it’s just another fun tool for hair…and I’m loving it 🙂 .
4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
All the spring sports…and the great friends that go along with it 🙂 .
5: WHAT I’M DREADING:
Mosquito bites.
Any remedies?
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
I’m working on finishing up all of those “to dos” I just *knew* I’d get done during the school year. You know…I had big plans to clean out every closet, drawer and cabinet, but it’s almost May, and I still haven’t tackled any of it. I mean…it’s not a super huge deal, but I sure do love getting a closet cleaned out before the kids are home all summer. Which month is your best month for deep cleaning/purging/tackling projects? I would typically say that January is my best month…but for some reason, that didn’t happen this year. What are the odds that May will be my month?! Haha!
7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
We’re going on vacation!! Woohoo! The four of us are headed somewhere fun to celebrate Andrew’s 40th birthday! This year, three out of the four of us turn 40 years old. What? What?! We’re going to celebrate big time!!
8: WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:
My April Book Review is out TOMORROW!! You are not going to want to miss that post!!
In the meantime, make sure you catch…
…last month’s book review. I LOVED EVERY BOOK!! You’ll definitely find a good read there!
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
Right this very minute…
…one of my very favorite movies is playing in the background while I work. Gosh, I love this one so much!
10: WHAT I’M WEARING:
Last week, I showed you these cute new workout shorts and told you that I love them so much, I bought them in a second color…
…I love them too! These fit TTS (I bought xs). I love a good pair of workout shorts to get me motivate in the spring and summer! Can we also just talk about the sports bra for a quick second…I’m really pleased with it! For the price, I think it’s extra fantastic! It comes in so many bright and fun colors too! I just ordered myself two more!
Annnnnnd…my weekday uniform. Tee (it’s 40% off right now!), shorts, slippers, repeat! I’ve also been wearing these earrings so much too! They’re very light with just a little pop of color. My mug is HERE.
This is a pic from last spring, but you all know my beloved camo dress. It’s so soft and comfy that I often select it over shorts! I just saw that it’s currently back in stock! Woohoo!! This also runs TTS.
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
We’re wrapping up volleyball! After six months of tournaments, K plays her last one this weekend!
I’m also hoping that we’ll be able to get in our pool this weekend too! I’m ready to start SWIMMING!!!
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
It’s the last month of school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#andalltheteacherssayamen
13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
I think that’s it, friends! I am just so pumped because I LOVE MAY!!! I cannot wait for this next month to start 🙂 .
If you blogged WUW today too, make sure you link up below! Have the BEST Wednesday!!!! xo

I cannot believe we’re wrapping things up for the year! This year flew by and clearly so have the years-look at little Smith!
Audrey Dawkins says
I am always ready for last day of school for my girls….but not this year because my oldest is graduating. Bittersweet times.
Mix and Match Mama says
Ohhhhh! It goes by fast, right? I need time to slow down.
Natasha says
If your mosquito bites swell, put a little Polysporin on them as soon as you notice one. It takes away the swelling. We discovered this by accident when my son was two and it was a game changer.
Mix and Match Mama says
Really?? Does it take away the itching too? What about redness? I’m going to try it!
Natasha says
I don’t know about the redness but our kids get welts when they get mosquito bites and with Polysporin it’s usually gone within a few hours. And they don’t complain about them. It was a weird discovery but it’s worked well for us.
Sarah says
Have you tried the mosquito bite remover from Amazon? It suctions the itch out. Might be what you’re looking for!
Elspeth says
What a fun recap! I can’t wait to see where you travel to on vacation!

WOW! Your hair looks great in all three pics! Sounds like a busy, but fun weekend coming up for you. What movie do you have on in the background? I’m not recognizing the movie but definitely am recognizing Jack Nicholson! Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s Something’s Gotta Give! It’s one of my very favorites!!
julie says
Your closet looks so organized! I would love to see a post on what gets hung, what gets folded, if you rotate out for seasons…maybe that’s just the east coast ;). Can’t wait for your book review!
Sheaffer Sims says
Lots to say…
I love that J Crew tee and that camo dress. Baby Smith is precious. Kensington looks SO OLD!
Tara G. says
B vitamins- supposed to make you an unfavorable host for mosquitos… ?♀️
Patty Anderson says
Mu husband takes garlic pills during the summer, which sounds gross, but he swears by them. Normally the mosquitoes LOVE him, but not when he takes these.
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m so intrigued.
Lyssy in The City says
The picture of the four of you made me smile 🙂 I love reading your travel posts and know how much it means to you! Here’s to more traveling in all our futures!!
Frances Ryals says
This has gotten rave reviews for mosquito bites. It was on Shark Tank.

Mary Uhl says
Mosquitoes love me too. I read a recommendation on Nextdoor about Spartan Mosquito. My husband hung 4 in the backyard. I can let you know if they work.
Lindsay Miller says
Your heart speaks to my heart…. something’s gotta give + cozy, productive mornings + fireplace (no matter if it’s 95 degrees or 0 degrees outside ?).
I was supposed to clean out my cabinets and closets, and deep clean them in January as well. Welp, now I’m telling myself May’s weather will want to make me do it. Haaaa… then I’ll just want to be outside 24/7. We shall see! ? have a good rest of your week!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s so good to have a soul sister in you 🙂 !
traci says
super silly question-
what’s your go to shoe with you shorts and graphic tee?!
just ordered those tees!!
Mix and Match Mama says
sandals!! I love sandals 🙂 . Today, it’s rainy, so I wore sneakers, but some sort of flip flop/sandal.
Traci says
??I’m thinking a fav sandal post is good idea!?
Callie says
We use lavender oil on our mosquito bites (and we live in MN so we get A LOT). 🙂
Jenny Brady says
This Nu Skin Epoch Baobab Body Butter repels mosquitos! Just trust me, it works!!! It’s also a great moisturizer…

For mosquito bite prevention I think these Scrub sheets are the best. They are individually packed so they are super convenient and travel well.

Taylor says
Mosquitos looooove me. 🙁 But, I started using Epoch baobab body butter…you purchase it from a NuSkin rep and it. is. so. good. It’s literally a body butter that smells good, moisturizes and keeps bugs away! It works like a champ and I don’t go outside in the summer time without it! Find yourself a NuSkin rep!! If you can’t, let me know, and I can hook you up with mine.
Shavon says
My son swells up something fierce when the mosquitoes find him. I had read somewhere years ago that deodorant with zinc in it would remove the swelling and itching. (I keep a stick of Secret women’s deodorant on hand for this reason.) We just rub a little over the bite in the morning and before bed and it works really well for him. Good luck!
Serena W. says
Totally unrelated but I don’t “know” anyone else with a handbag collection like you have. So, I figured you would be the best person to ask 🙂 Do you have a LV Speedy 30 bag? I am in the market for a new bag but just not sure what I’m looking for. I am leaning towards the Speedy but a little on the fence. I am looking for a lighter colored pattern for Spring/Summer and something bigger than a crossbody. Thoughts?
Mosquitoes make me CRAZY! They are terrible where we live. We finally invested in a mosquito treatment about 2 years ago and it has been some of the best money we have spent! It is expensive but it’s worth every.single.penny! They spray your yard 10 months out of the year. You can sit outside without being eaten alive!
Mix and Match Mama says
I have the big duffle bag for travel, but I don’t have a speedy. I’m not sure why…because they always remind me of French women and they’re gorgeous. Have you looked at the Neverfull or Iena? I like both in the damier azur!
Serena W. says
I have not looked at Lena but will definitely check it out – thanks! I have a Neverfull and love it! It is such a classic staple piece. Damier Azur is the color/pattern I am wanting so I am so glad you mentioned them both in that color wave! Thank you, Shay!!
Jennifer Maynard says
Make a roller ball of lavender and lemon essential oil and rub that on the bites and it stops the itching. Also Doterra makes Terrashield that you can mix with coconut oil and use as a spray to keep them away.
Sharon says
Oh vacation!!!! Sounds great! Just ordered the J.Crew tee! Can I ask you for a few recommendations on shower gels you like? I can’t wait for April book review! Blessings!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I just opened a brand new bottle of this: https://www.sephora.com/product/brazilian-4-play-moisturizing-shower-cream-gel-P411862
Joanne says
I think with all the unexpected construction this year you get a pass on your closet/drawer to do lists!
Mix and Match Mama says
I literally just dropped my shoulders and breathed a sigh of relief. For some reason reading this made me feel okay not to do it. God bless YOU!!
Brenda Davis says
Johnson & Johnson Baby Creamy Oil (in the green tube) works as a mosquito repellent and it smells nice too!
Elizabeth C. says
While it doesn’t prevent mosquito bites, I found that the “Bug Bite Thing” really helped eliminate the swelling/itching, if used on the bite early. It has mixed reviews on Amazon… and was given to me as a gag gift (some people in my family find it funny that I’m the primary mosquito target). But I love it and didn’t need to use nearly as much Benadryl cream last summer!
Michele says
Lavender essential oils on your neck/wrists/ankles prior to going outside helps me keep the mosquitos away!
Kellie Grindstaff Holstein says
Where are you celebrating the 40th birthdays? We had a 40th year trip planned for Banff and it’s sadly not going to be open 🙁
Mix and Match Mama says
No…boo. I had several clients hoping to go to Banff this year too. We’ve moved his trip and destination already once, so until I’m on the plane, I’m not going to believe it. TBA!
Sarah M. says
Where are you going? I want to live vicariously through you – my husband and I are 40 this year too! Which one of you is not turning 40? Are they younger or older?
Mix and Match Mama says
Our trip is TBA buuuut everyone but Erika turns 40 this year. Andrew in April, Tab in August and me in October. Erika’s the baby of the group 😉 .
Abby says
Bug bite thing (name of it) on Amazon. It was featured on Shark Tank. I haven’t used it but has pretty good reviews. It sucks the venom out. I’m going to order.
Jenn says
About the mosquito bites…it’s not an immediate fix but if you put scotch tape or the sticky side of a bandaid on the bite it takes away the itch after a little bit. Something to do with reducing the air flow. We usually leave it on about 24 hours or at least overnight. Not sure if it will work on TX sized mosquitos!
Mix and Match Mama says
whaaaaaaaaaaat?! I am so trying this!!!
Melissa says
Your hair looks good in the pic with the B sweatshirt! For #5 – the Benadryl Itch Relief Stick has been great for mosquito bites.
Since you love spicy food like I do, have you tried the Jalapeño Holly Chicken Salad from Chicken Salad Chick? Look on UberEats. It’s my favorite thing to order for a quick lunch.
Mix and Match Mama says
Looking that up NOW!!! Thank you!
katie mac says
3/4 of my “crew” are turning 40 in a year and a half – we are trying to plan something and just getting the process started. can’t wait to hear where you go!
Nicole says
I grabbed those chips Monday after seeing your post and already need more!! I love when you share food ideas! When you use that Buffalo ranch salad for lunch, do you use the dressing with it?
Mix and Match Mama says
Sometimes, but sometimes, I just make my own so that I can make it super spicy (a little Ranch plus a lot of Buffalo sauce!)
Tina says
Hi Shay! I sent you a message on FB with a link to a page where you can get a great product for the mosquito problem. I don’t sell it. It’s actually a friend of Sean’s. He shared another one of her products a few years ago, and that’s how I found her.?
Mix and Match Mama says
thank you so much, Tina!!
Donna Mason says
Hi Shay! May I ask what size you wear in the tshirt? Thank you in advance!
Mix and Match Mama says
The pink one? I ordered a small!
Donna Mason says
Thank you Shay! Have a great day and a wonderful weekend too.
Karen says
Mosquito bites ~ You can’t go wrong with the Benadryl roll on stick. It blocks the histamine and knocks out the itching and swelling.
Jayne says
I have a question about the Nike Tempo shorts – my girls have been loyal to those shorts for the last several years and I can’t determine from looking at the post or link if these are the same tried and true version of if anything has changed/improved. Do you happen to know?
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t know? I really like these, so I can’t imagine how they could have been different. The material, fit, length…all so good.
Dana P says
There is a new podcast out today that I’m excited to listen to-Motherhood Meets Medicine (Lynzy is a PA and that’s her podcast)and she’s interviewing SharonSaysSo (I highly recommend following her on IG!). I love listening to podcasts or an audiobook when I’m cleaning something out and find that that helps motivate me, too! That podcast is all about confirmation bias, misinformation and social media, etc. I’m really looking forward to it!
Mix and Match Mama says
Ohhhhh! I’m always looking for a new podcast too! Thanks, Dana!!
Katrina Goodman says
I had already read the book by Sally, but I read your other three recommendations in about a week’s time! (Buddha, Eliza, & Nina) I LOVED all of them!!! Can’t wait to read April’s recs!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!! Weren’t they all so good?!
Amy says
Dryer sheets- like Bounce or others are supposed to deter/prevent Mosquito bites! My Mom told me about this years ago. Since then, I always pack them: in luggage, in my purse, when we travel; put them inside of bed sheets, etc. My daughter and I get #ALLthemosquitobites! My husband and son- like zero. I do believe the dryer sheets help–when I remember them!
DANIELLE K RIGG says
Happy May 1. The Bug Bite Suction tool is great. You can buy on Amazon.
Also what do you use to wash the clay baseball field out of Smiths pants? Any secret tips to get them so clean?
