And just like that…on the 21st of May, Smith will officially be done with elementary school!
The Shull family is about to officially have two middle schoolers and this mama heart just can’t handle it. I am SO PROUD OF SMITH! He is just such a good kid. He is that kid that, as a mom, I just don’t have to worry any extra about. He’s so mature, so level-headed, so funny, smart, quick-witted, sweet, kind and I cannot believe he’s just about done with fifth grade. I’m going to take a minute and gush about my boy today 🙂 .
This has been an extra special year because it’s the one and only time that Madeley and Smith will ever be at the same school together. It’s been a year of kinder, 2nd and 5th grade over here and Smith has LOVED it! He loves his little sisters so much and has so enjoyed being the big man on campus this year taking care of them. (They’ve enjoyed it too!)
One of the things I love about Smith is that he truly is a Renaissance man. He is so diverse, has such a wide range of hobbies and interests and is always learning something new, studying something new and enjoying something new. He loves to fish, he loves to read, he’s currently working his way through Babbel right now to learn French, he’s memorizing the book of Romans…I’m telling you…when people ask me what he does all morning (he likes to wake up early!), I tell them that Smith is SUPER busy! He’s a man of many interests…
God knew exactly what he was doing when he surprised us with Smith 😉 . He is the PERFECT kiddo to be wedged between three girls…
…he teaches them poker, how to shoot a bow and arrow, how to build a fort, catch a fish…it’s always something.
Smith takes boxing during the off season, wants to learn how to row, he’s currently reading his way through all of John Grisham’s novels…
…this kid is a force.
Fifth grade certainly hasn’t been perfect…you know…2020 and all, but overall, he’s had a great year and a wonderful end to elementary school.
I can’t believe that little boy of mine is about to be in middle school. It’s just going by too fast.
Kindergarten to fifth in a blink.
Look at this pic from last week of Drew, Nixon, Smith and Bowen…
…and then look at this…
…I took this pic the month Smith and Nixon started kindergarten. My heart.
Happy end of elementary school, Smith!
I love this kid so much. xx

He is an amazing young man…and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for him. I remember you posting pictures when he was little and he would fall asleep anywhere and now look at all he has accomplished already in his young life. His curiosity about life and thirst for learning will undoubtedly open so many unexpected doors and paths for him. Keep reaching for those stars Smith…we can’t wait for your journey ahead

Awwwww, he is amazing! Congrats to Smith. I’m sure you have all the feels right now. I also have a fifth grade boy leaving elementary this year. While he is so ready, I don’t think I am! There are a lot of really special parties and events that typically happen in fifth grade and my heart is breaking that my son had to miss them all. He only went back to school in person last month. Trying so hard to focus on what he did get out of the year and be grateful, but I’m just sad that he didn’t get the usual happy fifth grade year. It’s also my last child (of three!) to graduate from the same elementary school. Sigh. Any suggestions for a special gift to commemorate the occasion and such a hard year? Enjoy celebrating with Smith!

Omg!!! Add “ A Painted House” to his John Grisham read list!! The Hallmark movie from the book was filmed in my little hometown of Lepanto!!! Grisham grew up just a few miles away and I designed the movie poster for the film!!! Almost my entire class was in the movie!
