Happy Friday, friends!
Well…my little family is off for the weekend to enjoy the Fourth, but before we leave, I thought I’d share SHAY’S ULTIMATE BEACH TRIP PACKING LIST which includes a printable list too 🙂 .
PLUS, I’m also sharing a tutorial video of how I braid my hair.
Whew.
So much summer fun!
Okay, if you’re like me, then when you’re packing for a trip, you’re checking and double checking that you don’t forget anything. Over the years, I’ve created a list and saved it on my computer to make sure I have what I need. Now, a lot of it is obvious stuff, but seriously, I need to have the word “underwear” on my list or else I’m not going to remember to pack it! Ha! I have all of the basics plus beach specific items too.
Don’t forget, I SWEAR BY THESE…
…PACKING CUBES!!!!
We do not go ANYWHERE without these packing cubes! Several years ago, I did an entire post on them, but here’s a refresher…
You can take all of this and neatly and wrinkle-free get it to fit…
…in this. Packing Cubes are amazing and seriously, we pack EVERYTHING in them! I now cannot even fathom packing without them!! (You can read all about my crazy love and method in THIS POST!).
For our most recent trip to the beach, here is a quick widget of the things we loved and packed (you can click on each image to get more info!):
I really think you’ve seen me talk about every single item on this list before! We are big fans of packing our own Yeti tumblers for drinks, backpacks and/or bags to carry food and drinks in to the beach, we love our new beach bag and beach blanket, those goggles are huge at our house, those are both our favorite sunscreens…it’s al the stuff we love! We even ALWAYS pack that little Bose speaker, and of course, Andrew and I each bring our waterproof Kindles. Now, the hippo is too big for a suitcase, but for a road trip, take it too 🙂 .
There’s that beach bag again 🙂 !

That’s my ultimate beach packing list!!
Now, if you’re here for my quick and easy braid tutorial…
…it’s really so, so, so easy! I have a little video for you…
…see? As easy as that 🙂 . By the way, so many of you have asked about my top, it’s one of the new ones from Cassie’s collection! Don’t forget, use code SHAY20 for 20% off!!
Lots of questions about Andrew’s earphones from our trip to Mexico and guess what?! They’re a super great Amazon find!! Andrew wears these every single day and LOVES them! Bonus, they’re under $30!!!
Finally, my last travel suggestion for you this year just happens to be 20% off today…
…it’s my Colleen Rothschild Discovery Kit! I’ve blogged about this before, but it’s travel-sized containers of her most popular products, and it was PERFECT for packing! It would also be perfect for trying out a variety of her products before committing to the larger sizes. Right now, she is having 20% off site-wide with code FIREWORKS, so I wanted to let you know! This is not only my favorite skincare line, but my mom’s too! This is a great deal right now!
Now tell me, what’s something you ALWAY pack for the beach? I’d love to know!!! Please comment and share!!!
I hope you all have a wonderful July 4th weekend! I will see you back here on TUESDAY with a new episode of The Bestie Breakdown. In the meantime, God bless YOU and God bless the United States of America!! Happy Fourth! xx
Alison says
Thanks for the tutorial! I hope you have a wonderful and happy 4th with all your people!
Erika Slaughter says
Or be sure to head to the beach with the Shulls and they’ll bring all the stuff you need for the beach! ???
Mix and Match Mama says
I just laughed out loud! That was funny!
Elspeth says
This is so helpful! My tip would be to leave room for souvenirs hehe!

Maggie Brown says
Great post! With taking large items like the Yetis and sand toys, how many bags did your family check on the recent Mexico trip? We’re super light packers so I love hearing how other people pack!
Mix and Match Mama says
We packed almost all of the things you mentioned in Andrew’s Yeti Backpack and then put that in one suitcase. We took two large suitcases and then three smaller rolling bags that can either be checked our carried on.
Kelly Franks says
Any recommendations on luggage? We have trip coming up and are due for new luggage.
Leslie S says
Us too! Would love recommendations for small rolling carry ons! And larger family sized bags that meet requirements to check!!
Michelle says
I also have a list on my computer for trips! It has been a lifesaver! Great tips!
Josie says
If we’re flying somewhere I’ll go to the dollar store before we got and buy cheap beach toys – balls, sand toys, etc and then just leave them there when we come home. Make room for souvenirs.
Also. No matter where we go we always always take a ball or two. Always. It’s uP there w a toothbrush.
Mix and Match Mama says
Love all of these tips!!
Kelsey Duray says
Perfect timing! Packing today to leave tomorrow for Hilton Head. ❤ Printing your list now!
Mix and Match Mama says
Have so much FUN!!
Kelly Marie Sites says
Love the tutorial. That looks so easy (I’ll still screw it up) hahaha
Love love your blog. Thanks for sharing so much through the years. I look forward to it every day. Happy 4th.
Mix and Match Mama says
Ohhh! Thank you so much, Kelly! That means a lot!
Susan says
How was the large beach towel? Did it really keep the sand away?
Mix and Match Mama says
It was big enough for my family of six! There was definitely some sand (from our feet more than anything), but it worked so much better than beach towels which is what we’ve typically used.
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
Typing up a master packing list and printing it off each time is genius! I’m going to do that for our next trip!
MeetTheShaneyfelts
Lauren Sheaffer Sims says
I just sent this post to my sister! They’re going to the beach soon, and I think she needs that beach mat!
SS says
I always pack our swimsuits in the travel vacuum bag, the one you roll the air out. For one suits alwaysnseem to have “the pool” smell and if they are damp the other clothes don’t get wet.
Have a great 4th!!!
Heather Stanton says
Don’t laugh!! A fluff paintbrush from the hardware store. I use it to brush off as much sand as I can before we go inside…off bodies, feet, shoes, bottom of bags. Also big towel clips to help dry beach towels any many other things!
Mix and Match Mama says
THAT IS BRILLIANT!!!!!!!
Arlene says
I recently learned and LOVE using baby powder after wiping all the sand off! It dries out the skin and then lets you really get the “stuck on sand” off! I’ll never do the beach without it again!!
Julia Beckley says
Not just for beach trips, but I love my packing list app “Pack” and swear by it! It’s a vacation planning packing list app for iPhones that lets me check things off as I pack and it can save the list and organize it by trip so you don’t have to keep retyping items you pack on every trip.
For beach trips, we love packing seashell bags so the kids can wear them as crossboodies and collect seashells on the beach!
Mix and Match Mama says
I am looking that up right now!!!
Jen says
The braids are so cute! Thank you for the little tutorial. 🙂
Ashley T. says
Sea-bands for motion sickness! They work best if you put them on ahead of time (before boat ride etc.). I get bad motion sickness and these help! Doesn’t have to be the Sea-band brand though. There are other brands that are cheaper and with fun colors out there too. I’ve bought both and they all work the same to me.
Amy Warner says
We recently took a trip to Turks & Caicos and the entire time we were there we wished we had packed some sling/chair blow up floats. We don’t really like to lay on a raft (motion sickness prone ?) so a chair type float is best.
Juli says
Shay…how do you pack the big yeti? Do you check it as luggage or stuff it in a suitcase?
Mix and Match Mama says
We put most of the beach items inside of it and then pack it in the suitcase!
Kathy Wood says
Now I know why I have so much anxiety getting ready for vacation. When my list is longer than yours and you’re an 8. Thanks so much for sharing this post. When you had your spontaneous vacation I was getting ready for my planned one and the anxiety was already kicking in and I was like “How did she do this with four kids?” ?
Meaghan says
When my boys were little, I always had baby powder in my beach bag. It makes getting sand off so much easier, and it’s gentler and more effective than brushing it off with a towel.
TIFFANY says
surf brush (amazon) LIFE SAVER
garbage bag for all our garbage!
Elizabeth says
Love the hair tutorial! Typically we go to resorts when heading to the beach, so we don’t usually pack coolers, etc. but I’m always sure to bring hats, sunglasses, sunscreen- just the necessities. We are so boring! ha. Two things that will always be in my beach bag are headphones and a book! Also, my daughter is LOVING the Scrunch brand watering can and bucket. They fold up so nicely for travel.
TIFFANY says
and if we are driving :
COOLCABANA and Personal Beach Table (walmart/amazon)
Patty Anderson says
Great suggestions. Have you tried the Yeti with the chug lid yet? Game changer for me as I try to drink more water these days.

TIFFANY says
Last one!
Towel bandits if we are going to resort
Cara Bozarth says
You also need a Narwhal. Our new favorite speaker lid for the lake/beach. Check it out. https://narwhallife.com/
It’s a speaker that is also a lid for your yeti tumbler!
Joanne says
Two years in a row we went on vacation and I forgot to pack pajamas for myself! I too have to have everything written on my list and I keep.
Ashley Newsom says
Ziplock bags (all sizes). I don’t know why, just pack them and thank me later!
Karen says
Please share yours and Madeley’s new nail color. Have a great weekend Shay!
Becky says
I am also a packing list maker. I have a variety of lists: beach list, camper list, hotel list, plane trip list, etc. I seriously don’t think I could pack without them
Erika Mills says
We live at the beach (literally 7 minutes down the road!) We always pack electrolyte drinks! I’m loving Superior Electrolytes right now because of no bad ingredients and not super salty taste. Watermelon is my favorite flavor for summer! Also the CGear no sand mat! It gives everyone a spot to sit no sand but also works great in the grass too! We’ve had ours for 10 years and still works great! HIGHLY recommend with littles! My BOGG bag holds SO much and doesn’t fall over, so it’s great for beach, pool or the boat! AND turkish towels. They dry way faster, not as bulky, can double as a wrap or coverup and wash well!
Dana P says
Love the little braid tutorial! And the longer I read your blog, the more I realize how many cool things you’ve introduced me to. ? And by the way, I found a bunch of Coola sunscreen at Marshall’s the other day! ??
Anneka says
I always bring a beauty blender to apply sunscreen. I had to laugh about having underwear on your list. I totally forgot shoes for myself on our road trip. I had to go buy flip flops. ? But all 4 kids have every little thing perfectly organized! ?
Natalie says
My bogg bag! They are pretty popular here in AL/FL. . I got one as a gift but LOVE it.. it doesn’t fall over like a beach bag. I throw everything in it and you can take your stuff out after beach and spray it down! 😉
Jenna says
I love that beach blanket!! Have you tried washing it yet?
Mix and Match Mama says
Just hosed it off!
Beth Hall says
Conditioner! To put in my wet hair under my cap/hat to act as a deep conditioner. Later when i wash it out, so smooth….
Maquelle Bienvenu says
I just saw you guys! Happy 4th! Wanted to say Hello but I didn’t. Have a nice weekend.
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwwwwww! You did? I wish you would have said hi!!! Happy Fourth to you!
Lauren says
A jar of coconut oil— it sounds weird but it’s great for sunburns, great as a makeup remover, great for dry skin that’s been in the sun all day… I swear by it!
Michelle Dawson says
This is a neat list and your printable list is fantastic! I bet Andrew has his own list too??
Mix and Match Mama says
Of course he does. Bahahaha!
Andrea says
My husband competed in Ironman Coeur d’Alene last weekend, and I was kicking myself for not listening to you and ordering the Yeti backpack cooler…lesson learned! Unrelated question…I’m about to order the Nike running shorts from Nordstrom. It says on the website to size up. Do you think that’s necessary? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I think you could go either way. I didn’t and still wear and love mine, but I also think I could have sized up a bit. If you’re at all hesitant, size up!
Heather Grounds says
where is the workout top from? the last picture with andrew
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s my workout romper from Athleta!!
JoAnne L says
Chips in a can, ie Pringles (food) so the chips don’t break… lol.
