Eeeeeks! I’m so excited!!!!
I’m pulling out the big guns today!
You guys, this year, I have received SO MANY requests for me to share more about…
…LOVIE!
(Also referred to as Sherry…or…Mom 🙂 ).
Basically when I read your “please blog about…” requests, you people only want to hear about Andrew and my mom. I really should just get out of the way over here and let them take over all the time while I read a book or something 😉 .
First let me tell you a bit about my mama…
Sherry (a.k.a. Lovie to her 7 grandkids) is by trade an interior designer. Growing up, my mom worked fulltime but always had lots of time for Sean and me. I didn’t realize how challenging that was or how well she did it until I was doing it as a mom. Since my mom is an interior designer, as you can imagine, her home is her true love. My mom has taught me many, many, many things in life but one of the most profound is that we should take pride in our homes (no matter how big or small) and fill it with items, finds, treasures, people and food we love. Always burn a candle that makes it smell nice, always play relaxing music, go big when decorating for holidays, tidy up often so that at any time anyone can show up and it looks nice, make your bed every single morning, always have a stack of books on your bedside table for reading, have a dog you love, take care of your yard, have a ton of pillows and blankets for making it cozy, brew coffee frequently and create a space you want to live in.
If you follow my mom on Instagram (and you should!) @loweinteriors, you’ll see her feed is filled with two things: photos of her home and yard (her yard is immaculate!) and pictures of her family. My mom has had Lovie Days (you can read about my kids’ Lovie Days HERE) since Kensington was born where she takes one day a week and spends the whole day with her grandkids. She started with Kensington and now, she’s down to mostly just Miss Mia (and a bit of the boys when they’re not in school). She loves being a Lovie.
Buuuuuuuuut…you ladies have sent me SO MANY requests for this interior designer who spends her days outside with her grandkids to share WHAT SHE WEARS. Ha! I asked my mom if I could share her favorite items for spring and summer that she wears on repeat…her staple pieces, her “capsule” wardrobe…with you ladies today, and she said yes 🙂 .
This post is going to be similar to my 25 KEYS TO A PEACEFUL MORNING as when my mom sent me her favorite items for each category, she elaborated on some and not on others. All of these things though, she loves and wears regularly when the weather gets warmer. I thought I could share this one now and then another one in the fall and winter when the weather turns cool.
So, here we go (in her voice, not mine)…
LOVIE’S SPRING AND SUMMER CAPSULE WARDROBE:
TOPS: I love the sleeve length and colors of THIS TOP. THIS is the top I wore for Easter. I love the color and sleeve length of THIS TOP. I am always looking for a little bit more sleeve at my age. THIS is the perfect t-shirt for me.
SHORTS: I love the length of THESE shorts!
JEANS: I love all MOTHER jeans. You can get them in any length/color. They come low to high waist and have stretch.
PANTS (not jeans): I love THESE check pants! Just got them! THESE are the pants I wore for Easter. I love them!
JACKET: I have THIS JEAN JACKET in three different colors. It’s a nice weight all year long.
SWIMSUITS: I love THIS TOP for swimming and I always love my SWIM SHORTS.
SANDALS: I love all the colors of THESE sandals. I also love my Valentino’s. I would rather have a great pair of sandals than a dozen cheap pair. Same with…
HANDBAG: One really nice bag makes me so happy. Buying nice bags is one of the perks of being older and having my kids out of the house. I love THIS ONE.
SNEAKERS: I always thought I had aged out of Golden Goose, but my daughter changed my mind and I love them! I bought THIS PAIR.
BRACELETS: My favorite bracelets are from Julie Vos and Allie+Bess.
Yay! Thank you SO MUCH to my mom for sharing! My mom’s a funny thing…she goes to great length, care and detail to cultivate the most beautiful home and yard…but her style is so effortless because that’s not a priority to her. Her house is a priority. Her style is accidentally super chic and classic. I love that! Whether you find her on IG in her yard, chasing her grandkids around at the zoo, at dinner or traveling, my mama is ALWAYS so perfectly (and easily!) put together. Isn’t that the true definition of style?
I hope all of you out there who requested this blog post have enjoyed it! I can dive deeper into Lovie life later on this year, but in the meantime, this is what you’ll find her wearing as the weather gets warmer.
Also…one of my MOST POPULAR RECIPES for spring and summer came from my mom, so I thought I’d share that again today in her honor too 🙂 . You can see it HERE.
I’m off now to enjoy my Thursday. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for the prayers, love and well wishes yesterday. My family is so thankful for each and every one of you! xx

Aw, I love her! She is one of my favorite follows on Instagram and she’s always so kind to respond back to when I comment or love one of her stories. Her home is to die for! Thanks for sharing her with us! I enjoyed reading about her and her easy style. I want to be like her when I “grow up”!
Also, I re-read your morning routine post and turned on some music…do you follow or have you heard of the Cafe Music BGM channel? It’s so good and there are so many discs to choose from to go with the time of day/mood/season. I just discovered it last night through Fiona Ferris’ new book on living a more luxurious life on a budget.
Have a great day!

I love me some Fiona Ferris!!! I’m looking that channel up right now!

Aww…I started following her on IG at some point in recent years. I love her backyard and girls’ guest room especially! She really does have great, classic style. What someone said about your grandmother and Mimi yesterday applies to your whole family…I think reading about them all these years makes us all feel really connected to them, and like their our family, too! ?

Shay, I love this post so much! But don’t you dare go away and “have them take over all the time!” We love you!
I clicked on the links and purchased the white blouse, 5 of the J. Crew shirts and jean jacket! I don’t know how it all works but I hope you/Lovie get credit for these purchases!
Keeping you and your family in my prayers xo
P.S. Would love to hear from Lovie with her perspective on motherhood some time (what matters raising kids, what doesn’t, things she’s glad she did, things she wishes she had done etc.)
Mix and Match Mama says
Please send me all the Lovie topics you would like me to share! She’s more reserved and doesn’t enjoy a ton of attention, but I bet I can get some more content from her if I ask nicely 😉 .
carissa says
Oooh okay let me think….how about her:
– top 10 favorite items in her home and why
– tips for people who have never gardened before but want to give it a try (favorite garden items/brands/tools too!)
– favorite music to listen to or always have playing in her home over the years (as a teen, young adult, mother raising kids, now)
– favorite movies (esp. any that inspire her with regards to design)
– tips for marriage longevity
– her faith journey, favorite spiritual/Christian books
– any favorite quotes/sayings or personal mottos
– favorite places in the U.S. and/or world and why (also where she would like to visit but has never been)
– favorite decor/design books
– any words of wisdom she may have on navigating the valleys/trials/hard times in life, what keeps her going, how to maintain a get up and go/get to it attitude (that I think you’ve mentioned in the past, how she’s never sitting around, always active) when you just don’t feel like doing anything or are overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, grieving etc.
Thanks Shay! And thanks Lovie!

Also, when it’s time Lovie’s Fall/Winter capsule wardrobe and one about all the dogs she’s had and loved would be fun too!

I second this I would love to her about Andrews family.

They’re much more private, so I do have to be sensitive to that, but they’re amazing and so super wonderful!

So I sat down to read your blog today, and oh my, I was excited that it was an all about Lovie post. I couldn’t decide which to read first. LOVE your Mama’s style. I also follow her on Instagram. Totally enjoyed the home tours that she done last year. Her home is absolutely Beautiful and so is the yard. The love for God and her family radiates so brightly. Thank you for sharing with us.
Julia says
Ohhhh I love this post! I actually cut and pasted your mom’s philosophy about caring for your home so I can read it again and again. I agree with everything she says! I would love to know more about how your mom (and you) find time to make your kids feel like you’re around despite a busy work schedule. It’s probably my biggest parenting woe so far :(. I did not have a good example, sadly, my mom was always very distracted and stressed by work. So another post, OR, a podcast!!! (Yipeee!) with your and your mom’s tips and tricks would be so wonderful. Thanks for sharing your mom with us today!
BF says
Thanks for the fun post! Idea for your mom in the future: Advice on what she would tell herself 20-30 years ago. Advice on raising children, what she would do over raising kids/what she did well, etc. I’m a mom to 4 kiddos over here and I soak up any advice/wisdom the older generations can pass on to me!!
Thanks! ☺️
Elizabeth says
Totally agree!!!! Would love to hear her advice on parenting, marriage, walking with God, all the things!!! She’s adorable!

I do admire her look and especially her Lovie skills.

Thanks for sharing.

How did she come up with Lovie? My son & DIL are starting to think about a family and I’m not ready to be called Grandma. I love an alternative and Lovie sounds so beautiful. Where did that come from?
Mix and Match Mama says
Lovie Smith…the NFL coach. Ha!
K says
Someone please explain to me the appeal of Golden Goose shoes! They look like old, dirty tennis shoes.
Mix and Match Mama says
I think that’s the appeal. Ha!
Sara K. says
I would love to hear how she came up with Lovie for her grandma name. My son and dil are starting to talk about starting a family and I’m not ready to be called Grandma and I am thinking about an alternative. Lovie is such a beautiful nickname and it says so much about that role. Do tell.
Mix and Match Mama says
She was watching an NFL game where Lovie Smith was coaching…and loved his name 😉 .

I’ve admired your sweet mom for years! I’m much closer to her age than yours and am now at the “spending one day a week with my grandchildren stage”:). Thank you for sharing her with us!
