Merry Monday, friends!
We had one of my favorite weekends of the year filled with so many fun and festive things starting with Friday night…
…at The Star!
This was maybe our fifth (maybe?) year to do this, and it’s always so easy, festive, fun and FREE! If you’re local, this 20 minute show runs every Friday and Saturday night between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The Star is the Dallas Cowboys’ training facility/offices/etc. It’s a huge outdoor area in Frisco, TX (the town right next to McKinney) with restaurants, businesses, upscale apartments and shopping surrounding it. At 6:00 PM, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Santa and friends come for a fun holiday show (plus typically one Cowboys player and his family are there too). There is Christmas music, dancers, fireworks…it’s very family-friendly and festive.
We look forward to this every year! You just park, walk up and wait for the fun!
Look at her face!!
There’s Rowdy, the Cowboys’ mascot!
The DCC change uniforms three times during the 20 minute show. It’s really cool!
And of course, Santa comes…because I’m sure he and Jerry Jones are super tight 😉 .
Geez, I love them so much!
On Saturday night, it was supposed to have been McKinney’s Annual Christmas Light Parade…but due to the rain, they have postponed it until Thursday instead…
…we decided to head there in the rain regardless and find some fun 🙂 .
Side note, any other moms of middle school boys out there rolling their eyes when their son refuses to wear actual pants? He probably said three times “I wish I had pants on”…yeah, you think?
We stopped in for candy, went by Doug and Lynda’s Ski Shop, visited a few boutiques and took in the festive decorations before…
…visiting the yard for pre-dinner drinks and a little college basketball watching and then finally, dinner at our favorite pub. It was a very festive Saturday!
And then on Sunday night, it was my annual recipe exchange! Since it just happened last night, I don’t have pics to post just yet, but no worries…they’re coming. Spoiler alert, for the first time ever, our theme this year was BACON! From cocktails to sweets, your recipe had to include BACON!!
That wraps up my Merry Monday!
I’ll see you back here tomorrow!! Make sure you check out…

Shay,
We do not have that pants issue up here because it is chilly and pants are just a must. Sometimes it is a fight for a jacket. Lol. Boys!?! Lol!!! It may take a few times but they will realize Mom & Dad still do know a few things!! Lol!!
Your weekend looked like fun! We had a quick 3 inches Friday of snow. We made a snowman, put up some more lights (Can you have too many Xmas lights?) We .watched a couple of movies. Now the snow is melting and it is a muddy mess. Lol
Have a great week!!!

You cannot have too many lights! Merry Christmas!! xx

I work at a middle school in Minnesota and middle school boys come to school in shorts and no winter jackets (wearing just a hoodie) all year. Middle school boys are crazy!
Mix and Match Mama says
CRAZY! God bless YOU for working with them 😉 .

I can confirm, middle school boys do not wear pants! I live in Austin, so not super cold but I remember 30° days and I would drop my son off at school and he and all the other boys were wearing shorts. My former middle school boy is now a 26 year old man and lo and behold he now wears pants most of the time!

I also have a 26 year old son, who was a previous shorts only middle schooler, who now chooses mostly joggers even in the hot summertime. It really makes me more understanding and appreciative of my husband!
Ashley Royer says
My 17 year old rarely wears pants. I gave up the fight somewhere around freshman year! I have pictures on him in the snow in shorts.
Candice says
We are in Wisconsin, which is much cooler than Texas & my son Charlie who is now in high school still insists on shorts. LIke, are you nuts?
Meredith Payette says
My nephew (14) is the same. Shorts exclusively….
It carries into adulthood – my husband wears shorts in the dead of winter! Merry Christmas!!!
Melanie M says
Wow! Smith has had a growth spurt! I guess he’s going to be tall like Andrew.
Denise says
My son is 16 and I gave up buying pants AND coats. I figure by this age if you don’t know you’re going to freeze (or you do know but you’re ok with it anyway) then I’m not wasting my money anymore! 🤦🏻♀️ At least at this age, the other parents and teachers know it’s not me being an unfit parent and sending my kid out with no pants or coat! 😂
Arika Sprecker says
In addition to wishing he had pants, I bet he wished he had shoes other than Crocs with the rain. Ah, middle schoolers! 🙂 Such a good age to make their own choices in a safe space!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh don’t get Andrew started on that…ha!
Pamela says
We are in Ohio and my 17-year son and husband constantly wear hoodies and shorts. 95 degrees or -10…. hoodies and shorts. It drives me CRAZY. I try to hurry and pack them away when I do the laundry, so they don’t have the short option. But I think they found my hiding spot 🙂

My grandson graduated yesterday from college and the only times I’ve seen him in long pants was both HS and college graduations and for school dances!! Lol
Alison says
Middle School boys are a special breed. 🤣 Then they turn into HS boys and their questionable choices come in other shapes and sizes. Lol
I’m excited for your annual recipe exchange/holiday party post!
