Happy, happy Friday, friends!
Today is Friday the 13th, and if you’ve been around the block with me a few years then you know…13 is my favorite number, so that means today has to be a great day 🙂 .
Before I get to my Faves for the week (and there are some really good ones!), I have to say a big thank you one more time for all of your love this week. Grief is a funny thing and even though it probably feels insane to be “surprised” that your almost 98 year old grandfather has passed, it still catches me off guard. To live in a world where men like Roy Lowe don’t really exist as much as they used to…well, that breaks my heart a bit. That generation was exceptional. I fear the further away we get from that generation the more we’ll forget them and their fortitude. I think it’s a crazy loss for our entire world when we lose men and women who endured, survived and thrived despite the conditions they lived through.
Thank you for your love.
As always, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika and wishing you a WONDERFUL weekend. xx
They’re back and living in my house…or at least, it feels like they are.
Kensington and Smith stumbled on The Golden Girls over Christmas break and cannot stop binge watching it. Ha!
Do you think that when these ladies made this show in 1985 they thought middle schoolers in 2023 would be laughing hysterically over it? I somehow doubt it 😉 . In a world where a million negative and inappropriate things are trying to capture my kids’ attention the fact that these four ladies have done it makes me very happy. Are they a little sassy and ahead of their time? Yes! These women were spicy, funny…and I thank them for being a friend to my kids. #ifyouknowthelyricsyouknow 😉 I had forgotten how much I loved this show. Are you more a Dorothy, Blanche, Rose or Sophia? I feel I’m very much a Dorothy.
Um, hello!
HOW ADORABLE IS THIS SWEATER….
I mean…isn’t it so cute?! I absolutely love it for February 🙂 .
Bonus, it comes in SO MANY other colors, but the red with the white heart just spoke right to my holiday-loving heart 🙂 .
Last year, I wore this one…
…so this year, I’ll have two. I think the quality of both are really fabulous considering their price!
If you’re looking for something else a little red and a whole lot of cute and comfy…
…my pullover for the win! Adorable, right?!
One quick sale for you!
I saw that they had it in navy stripe too, so I bought that one as well since they’re on sale and so soft! I love that it’s light enough to wear into spring.
We’ve had a big week of cleaning out things! We cleaned out our Pantry BIG TIME (I need to post before and after pics ASAP!), plus we cleaned out the random medicine cabinet in my kitchen too. Nothing makes me want to purge and clean more than taking down holiday decorations. When we were cleaning out the pantry, I added four fresh new boxes of one of our favorite cereals…
…which of course lead to Mades having a bowl…
I’ve blogged about Magic Spoon before and even named it a Friday Fave two years ago! No matter which flavor my family buys and tries, we love it!
Plus bonus…
…if you’re looking to enjoy a healthier breakfast/snack this new year, it’s free of all that yucky stuff and filled with all of the good stuff.
Extra bonus, I asked Magic Spoon for a promo code since I love them and want you to love them too, and they said YES!
They asked if the promo code could run in my daily email which I thought was new and fun, so if you’re looking for a code, you’ll see it in both today’s daily email and also tomorrow’s weekly wrap up email. If you aren’t a current email subscriber, you can sign up HERE and grab that code tomorrow morning when Saturday’s email goes out. Smith’s violin teacher asked me the other day which flavor was my favorite and honestly, they’re all really good. I tend to lean more towards the cinnamon-y flavors, but you really can’t go wrong with any of them.
I get asked ALL THE TIME what luggage we love and use and since we had our luggage out this week putting ski clothes away, I snapped a picture of my hubby putting away these two pieces. I’ve blogged about these suitcases before…they’re pricey, but we LOVE THEM! We already had one white one (we’ve had it several years!), and then after this trip, when we had a suitcase absolutely destroyed by the airline (it looked like the plane had backed over it, bahahaha!), we bought two more (we like the 28 inch).
Look at Sheaffer and me matching at the airport with our suitcases 🙂 !
They’re large, they’re light (not too heavy for the weight restrictions even after you fill them) and super durable! Just an FYI should you be one of the ones curious.
Your January weekend needs one of my 31 easy and CRAZY GOOD BREAKFAST CASSEROLES!
Trust me, whether you like savory or sweet, bacon or sausage, these simple, make ahead recipes are perfect for your Saturday brunch!
You can see them all HERE!
And wrapping up this week, it’s time for…
…this week, I’m flashing back to…
…JANUARY 2020 when I shared (in detail!) Kensington’s Celiac diagnosis. She didn’t have the “normal” symptoms and was quite young to be diagnosed, but I’m hoping that maybe our road to Celiac might help some of you out there too.
And since it’s January, that means it’s almost the anniversary of Sean and Catherine getting married! These two tied the knot on January 26, 2014 and my crazy family was right smack dab in the middle of it. You can read my behind the scenes stuff in PART ONE and PART TWO here on my blog.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! I’ll see you back here on Monday! xx

The Golden Girls is my favorite show ever! So glad your daughters are loving it!! I am Rose definitely but have a bit of Dorothy too.

Sooo what do you listen to when you clean out your pantry? Because I only clean mine out when you and Andrew do a Q&A. And let me say.. it’s time 🙈😂
Love that they love the Golden Girls! Wings was another we watched as kids and loved, even though it doesn’t paint Nantucket the way you do:)
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwww! I love Wings!!! When I cleaned out the pantry, I listened to The Office Ladies!

Shay, love the Golden Girls. When Disney MGM studios… Yes that’s what it was called first opened we went on the behind the scenes tour and they had a replica of their house. Lol. We now have 2 Golden retrievers and I call them our Golden Girls. ( I secretly wish they were named Dorothy & Sophia…they are mother/daughter). Lol. But we got them at different times and we Never thought we’d have 2, let alone our puppies mama.
I like you think about what my grandpa endured and quite frankly all of my gparents. My Gpa was 100.5 when he passed. He was born in 1910…the things he had gone through! When our older 2 were little we would talk about their greats all the time (they were still alive). We would look at dates of the things. Papa was alive before this company or this… They were always so amazed at how old their greats were. I was too. We miss all of them so much. We still talk about them and still amazed at what they lived through and what they meant to us. There are times something will pop up and either I will say it kids will say doesn’t this remind you of this gparent? You’re right grief is a funny thing…you will be doing alright and then BANG it hits you. I always think it is just my heart reminding me of how much we love them.

Happy Friday the 13th! I never thought I would write that, but since you said it’s your favorite number, it sounds appropriate, haha! 🙂 I completely agree with you about the generation of men and women like your grandfather, I don’t ever want to forget them and too often people in my generation don’t take the time to listen to their stories. They are just full of wisdom and just so different from what you see today, and they should be cherished! I love that you certainly cherished your sweet grandpa!
I have a huge love for the Golden Girls, it’s my favorite show! My best friend always sends me something GG related for Christmas, I just got some decorative kitchen towels and oven mitts this time around, haha! I think it’s a show that no matter what year it will be, people will still love it and find it funny. My husband even giggles even though he’s not actually “watching” it with me, haha. Sophia is my favorite GG, but I’m probably more of a Rose in real life!
I enjoyed this post and I hope you have a wonderful weekend! 🙂

That suitcase is the best, I LOVE that Evereve pullover!!!!!, and Kensington looks so young (can’t believe that was just 2 years ago)!

I am Sophia. I used to be horrified at that but now I embrace being an old spicy lady! Have a great weekend.

Great post! Love Golden Girls – Now I want to binge that show too. Random question, can you give details/link on the frames behind Andrew in the pic with the luggage? They have pics of your kids in them. They’re so pretty!

I have an entire post on this! You can read all the deets here: https://mixandmatchmama.com/2022/05/updated-gallery-wall/

I’m probably more Dorothy, loved Blanche but not like her at all 🙂 and I have a friend who is Rose personified… sometimes makes you want to knock you head against a wall at times (haha). It cracks me up when younger friends talk about discovering the Golden Girls and it’s crazy how long that show has survived.

The promo code was not in todays email.
Mix and Match Mama says
I just looked at mine, and it was! It will be in tomorrow’s too. If you click reply to your email, it goes straight to my inbox. I’m happy to show you where!!

My 14 and 11 year old love Mama’s Family! It makes me laugh everytime I walk in on them watching it!
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t seen that show in YEARS. Maybe DECADES. So fun how these shows are resurfacing!!

Shay, I echo your feelings about my Father and your Granddad. That generation was the greatest generation of all time. They endured much and were such strong men with the moral fiber that is not evident in more recent generations. I have prayed for you this week, my Dad died in 2019 at age 94. He was a Navy veteran, and proud of his legacy. You will get through this with time. Stay busy……..like you have choice, but it does help time pass more quickly. He is resting in heaven with his wife and our Lord and Savior!
Laura says
Very sweet post, and I need to watch GG! I feel like I’d love it.
I have to ask a super random question, that big brown bear in the picture with Kensington…was that one of yours when you were a kid?? Or is it more recent? I had one that looked just like it when I was little! “Brownie” was very beloved for many years! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
It is actually Andrew’s from when he was a little boy! What a good catch and a small world!
Erika Slaughter says
I think I’ve got a little of each of those friends in me. Let’s be real-I probably lean Rose most of the time BUT I’m not 100% which has to mean something!

I have been reading your blog well over a decade. It was fun to go back & reread Catherine and Sean’s wedding. I noticed all 4 grandparents on the plane & your grandfather’s toast. Such a blessing to have those moments documented. And oh my, how small K & S were. Such sweetness.
And Golden Girls is fabulous! Another good one to suggest, Major Dad.
Mix and Match Mama says
I took time to look at those too. I remember that weekend like it was yesterday. It was a very sweet, sweet time with my family. Thank YOU for noticing too. xx
Rhoda W says
Shay, thank you for that wonderful blast from the past!! I loved Sean and Catherine on The Bachelor. Although he was the reason that brought me to your blog, it was you and your sweet family that have kept me visiting for the past 10 years! Thank you for sharing your life and faith. You make my week just that little bit brighter!
On another note, I’m so sorry to read of the passing of your Papa. He sure sounded like a great man.
Best, Rhoda
Gretchen Dall says
Ahh Golden Girls! Have you googled how old their characters were? Blanche was only supposed to be 47! Wha??? Times have changed!
Mix and Match Mama says
Now, that is just depressing.

Pinned the recipes. Coveted the suitcases. And curious about the cereal. My granddaughter eat a lot of cereal but I have never heard of this one. I bet it is a Trader Joe’s product and we cannot get TJ’s to come to El Paso, Texas. So frustrating. We don’t even have a Trader Joe’s within a 150 miles. I keep pinning your TJ haul posts just in case, though. Love the sweaters. I picked out a Valentine’s top at Versona. Now to get my Prince Charming to take me out.
Traci says
Hi Shay!
Thank you so much for your blog! I love it. I’m debating on getting the champagne color luggage or the brown one. Do you think the white one shows more damage?
Mix and Match Mama says
I think the white is much prettier but YES, it shows way more scuffs, scratches and damage.
Natalie says
Aw Sean and Catherine’s wedding.. I stumbled upon your blog sometime around then and have been following since. 😉 They’ve always been my fave Bach couple. Sean has always reminded me of my own brother…they favor each other very much. I’m 38 and have to admit I have never watched golden girls. I’m going to have to go watch now! Have a great weekend!
Jess Wade says
I love the Golden Girls. And my nieces who are now in high school have grown up watching the Golden Girls just like I did. I loved your comment that is unlikely these 4 ladies thought kids in 2023 would be getting as much joy out of this show so many years later! It’s just so good. Dorothy reminds me of my Great Aunt who I lost a few years ago and my grandma is a good mix of Sophia and Blanche. I can turn on that show and it just makes me happy!
