It’s another edition of TOP FIVE, BOTTOM FIVE but this time…it’s all about HOUSEHOLD CHORES!
I received SO MANY requests from you girls to keep this series going (more often!) in 2023, so I thought we’d kick off the year with a very “January” theme…CHORES.
But first…agh!
I cried a lot this weekend and yesterday reading your blog comments. There are really no words. I am just so humbled and honored and grateful for this community. It was a bittersweet weekend with more bittersweet days to come…but I feel a million percent confident that my Papa is EXACTLY WHERE HE WANTED TO BE, so praise Jesus! How often do we get exactly what we want in life? And he is now getting it for all eternity.
In lieu of anything heavy today (because my broken heart cannot take additional heavy right now), I have a new edition of TOP FIVE, BOTTOM FIVE.
God bless you all. My heart is truly so filled by your love.
Here we go…just as a refresher, here’s how we play this game. I give you my TOP FIVE and BOTTOM FIVE things from that day’s category and explain why I think they’re underrated or overrated. Then you head to the comment section and share your TOP FIVE, BOTTOM FIVE too.
Here are the topics we’ve covered so far. You seriously need to head back and read each post if you’ve missed it!
Top Five, Bottom Five: THANKSGIVING FOODS
Top Five, Bottom Five: CHRISTMAS SONGS
I don’t know about you, but it’s January and in January, I feel very “spring cleany” with my house. After taking down all of the holiday decorations, I love having a nice tidy house that’s uber clean and organized. Just last week, I totally revamped my entire pantry, and now, I’m going to tackle our medicine cabinet because I’m pretty positive there are bottles up there dated from like 2016. As I was cleaning and purging my pantry, it started me thinking about regular household chores I don’t mind doing…and then the chores I absolutely hate. And thus, this blog post was born 🙂 .
Now, for the sake of repetitiveness and obviousness…we’re not allowed to say “CLEANING THE TOILETS” is a BOTTOM FIVE chore.
Because, I mean..duh, right?
Other than cleaning toilets, any (what you deem) “household chore” is on the table. I made my list, and then asked my hubby to make his too (at the bottom of the post). So, let’s see where we agree and where we disagree on HOUSEHOLD CHORES starting with my…
5: EMPTYING THE DISHWASHER
I find emptying the dishwasher kind of soothing. I like to group and stack my items by where they should be returned (a tall stack of cups for instance or a stack of plates). I like how clean and sparkly they all are and get satisfaction out of putting them back in their proper “home”. I don’t mind this chore at all!
4: DOING THE LAUNDRY
I’m not saying I want to do your laundry…or any more of my laundry…but if I have a podcast playing on my phone and a fresh pile of clothes to fold and put away, it’s kind of like a mini vacation as a mom. I mean…hello? I can prop my phone next to the pile of laundry, turn on Netflix and get a solid 15 minutes of TV watching time alone because let’s be clear…no one interrupts you when you’re folding laundry as they fear you’ll ask for help. When else do I get time alone to watch a show? I used to not love putting away the folded clothes, but if I pop my Airbuds in and put on a podcast, I listen and put away quite quickly.
3: CLEANING COUNTERS
I looooove cleaning counters. I don’t care whether it’s bathroom counters or kitchen counters, I get so much satisfaction out of spraying, wiping and seeing my sparkling counters reappear. At night after dinner, Andrew will often offer to clean up the kitchen, but most of the time, I decline as I get great satisfaction from putting away the dishes and cleaning off the counters.
2: MAKING THE BED
My world stops spinning if I don’t make my bed every single morning. I love a made bed. I never mind making it (bonus fun if my sheets are fresh from the dryer that day!) and always feel accomplished when I step back and see the final product.
1: VACUUMING
Hi, my name is Shay, and I’m obsessed with vacuuming. I love to vacuum. My cordless vacuum and I have a very tight relationship. First, I cannot stand a dirty floor. Second, it’s just relaxing and very satisfying to see the vacuum lines over the rug. I vacuum certain areas in my house at least once a day. I even keep a cordless vac in my closet so that I can vacuum my bathroom floors at least once (if not twice!) a day (my hair sheds, and I can’t stand to see it on the bathroom floor). Vacuuming is my favorite chore!
But which chores do I hate?!
These are my…
5: CLEANING MIRRORS
It’s a never ending battle of getting that last “streak” across the glass. Unlike cleaning counters, mirrors show every tiny mistake, streak, smudge…I never step back and feel satisfied. I always step back and think “that’s good enough”.
4: DUSTING
Oh for the love! Who likes to dust? You start at the top (and I’m short, so that’s never practical), it stirs up my allergies, you never really see sparkly progress…if anything, it just makes me realize how disgusting my family is. I hate fluffy dust wands (allergy nightmare), I hate dust clothes (they just feel icky). I do not love dusting at all.
3: CHECKING THE MAIL
Yeah, I’m not big on checking the mail. I mean…I do it every day (maybe), but it wears me out. My in-laws love to check their mail. They pop up and head right out when the delivery person drives away…me? I open it and unless I see a magazine in there, I’m annoyed. Now, I have to walk in the house and toss junk mail or file away bills. It’s just an endless chore of paperwork with an occasional Good Housekeeping thrown in for fun.
2: MOPPING
Oh for the love. Where do I start?! I’m talking about traditional mopping here (not like a Swiffer Wet Jet which I don’t mind using). The nasty mop bucket grosses me out. I hate squeezing the water out. I always use too much water on the mop or not enough. I hate that awkward “back away from where you’ve been mopping” thing we have to do as to not step in it. And there is a smell (no matter which product I use) of just dirty mop water that makes me want to gag. It’s just a messy chore. It’s a chore that cleans…but is messy.
And finally, my #1 BOTTOM FIVE CHORE is…
1: SWEEPING
Nope. Nope. Nope. Where mopping is wet and gross, sweeping is just a never ending attempt at getting that last little bit of “stuff” up on the dustpan. I hate sweeping. You make piles of filth (again, why is my family so gross) and then you spin around in circles trying to get it on the dustpan (and it never all gets on there). It’s the unsatisfying way of vacuuming. If I could never sweep again, I’d be so happy.
When I asked my hubby what his were, I was surprised by how different we felt about certain chores in the house! Some of the ones I love, he does not. Annnd…some of the ones he named cracked me up because they felt very “dad” to me. (Thank goodness his least favorite chore is one the family never comes to me to fix…)
TOP 5
#5: CLEANING THE WINDOWS
#4: VACUUMING
#3: DOING THE LAUNDRY (HIS WAY…) He wanted me to point out that “his way” is more efficient than my way, and he doesn’t like doing it “my way”. My way is just sorting it all at once, where “his way” is sorting only one person’s laundry at a time.
#2: BLOWING THE LEAVES IN THE YARD I look out every single day, and he looks like a Ghostbuster out there with his blower on his back getting rid of the leaves.
#1: CHANGING OUT THE FLOWERS IN THE YARD
BOTTOM 5
#5: EMPTYING THE DISHWASHER
#4: CLEANING BATHROOM SINKS
#3: PICKING UP THE DOG POOP IN THE YARD
#2: HAVING TO FIX ANYTHING INTERNET/TV RELATED
#1: UNCLOGGING TOILETS
Now, spill it…what’s your TOP FIVE, BOTTOM FIVE. I want to know!!!
I can’t wait to read your comments!
One last thing, TOMORROW is the first LET’S LOOK OF 2023!
If you blog, we would LOVE to have you link up with us and share your posts on this year’s prompts too! Here are the prompts for 2023:
So, if you’re a blogger, then post this TOMORROW (it’s always the second Wednesday of every month!) a blog post about how you keep your busy family scheduled and organized. We’re so excited about a new year of Let’s Look with you!
Happy Tuesday, friends!! xx
Erika Slaughter says
Your cleaning mirrors hate cracks me up because to me that’s a quick chore. Doesn’t take much time so not one I have a lot of feels about, but the laundry-ugh! Don’t even get me started…
Sandy M says
A damp (very rung out) microfiber cloth makes mirror cleaning a breeze and they also work well for dusting (damp). I got a steam mop (electric) to clean tile and it makes a job I also hate so easy! It only uses water so no smell from cleaning products.
Lauren says
I’m very excited to try cleaning windows with a microfiber cloth after reading this!
Taylor says
I love this edition!! I LOVE loading the dishwasher & doing the dishes-I usually put a YouTube video on my phone and get to work…BUT I hate unloading it!!! Idk what it is, but i especially hate putting away all of our little containers. It stresses me out. Good thing my husband and I make a great team..I usually wash and he almost always will put the dishes away..so it works out in the end lol.
Lisa B says
I used to hate mopping probably because I felt like getting on my hands and knees was the best solution, but since I purchased an O’Cedar Spin Mop, it is no longer a dreaded job. I follow Gocleanco on Instagram and this is her recommendation. Add 1 tsp. powdered Tide to about a gallon of very hot water, spin the mop with your foot and the microfiber mop does the work.
Caitlin L. says
I second this! The Spin Mop is GREAT and GoCleanCo’s process is so simple.
Molly Bierens says
This mop is awesome….it makes the chore of mopping not so bad!!
Cindy Shook says
I came here to say exactly this. The OCedar tide combo is perfect. Also, get a Norwex cloth for mirrors/windows, and I never sweep anymore- I just vacuum it all instead. That takes care of 3 of the dreaded ones!!!
Kelly Franks says
Yes!!! Mopping the “go clean co” way is the best!
Sue Krivsky says
Vacuuming is satisfying, dusting is never ending chore, especially with a lab. I dislike cleaning showers. What are your favorite counter cleaners? (granite here)
sandi says
I mix a little rubbing alcohol with water in a spray bottle for my granite counters. Inexpensive and works like a charm. Granite cleaners are super expensive but a dollar bottle of alcohol lasts a long time when mixed with water.
Alina says
Method Daily Granite Cleaner (apple orchard scent) is awesome and it smells great! It’s not expensive and you can even buy a big refill bottle on Amazon!
Kimbrough says
Plenty of daily things to get done regardless but do y’all have anyone that comes in regularly to help maintain the house?
Mix and Match Mama says
We do! She’s incredibly helpful when she comes!
Robin says
What kinds of things do you have your cleaning person do verses what you do yourself? And how frequently does your person come?
Mix and Match Mama says
She comes once a week and does a great “once over”. The other days, we “maintain” and sweep, mop (when necessary), clean off counters, vacuum, etc. I don’t dust in between or clean the tubs and showers unless absolutely necessary though.

Gina Luebke says
Aww, I love 3 of your top 5! I love to make my bed, empty the DW and laundry is my absolute favorite chore!!❤️❤️ I also don’t mind dusting or sweeping but the rest I hate!! ( more than anything is cleaning 3 dirty bathrooms 🤪😂) fun post!!
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I love to vacuum, too! And I’ve never really thought about it, but I love wiping down counters and our table. Maybe it’s just satisfying how you can just wipe away a mess. I also HATE dusting. It’s the one thing I do not enjoy–thus, my house is usually a little dustier than it should be because I put it off longer than I should ha!
MeetTheShaneyfelts
Elspeth Mizner says
I love doing laundry! I love to do it every day. There’s nothing that makes me happier than having an empty laundry room. On the other hand, not a a fan of vacuuming. Sorry Shay!
http://www.Elspethsdaybyday.com
Jessica Trujillo says
YES to vacuuming! My family thinks I’m so annoying because all day I’m randomly running that thing 😉
Kelly Marie Sites says
Andrew- NO NO NO. If you sort each family individually, you waste time by digging through the basket for that person’s items. Just grab and go, grab and go- fold whatever your hand pulls out. THAT IS THE RIGHT WAY TO DO IT ;0
Andrew Shull says
True. My way is to wash each persons stuff separately. I don’t mix laundry. If Kensington asks me to run a load, I only throw hers in and hand it back to her to put up. Sorting is what takes time, and now combine the fact that Kensington and Shay wear the same size, and Ashby and Madeley are so similar, it’s like inventing fire to figure out.
Tina says
I completely agree with this! I do one person’s laundry at a time as well. It is much less frustrating when sorting everyone’s similarly sized clothes, especially socks!
Jeanine says
It’s even easier if you let each person do their own laundry! Once my kids reached the age of 9 or 10, I gave them each a laundry basket, and once it was full, they were responsible for making sure that their clothes got clean. It worked pretty well! I also outsourced most chores to them, though of course, there was always plenty for us as parents to do i.e. helping and making sure everything got done, maintaining the home, etc. To be honest, it’s much easier to do it yourself but not best for the kids in the long run.
Kay says
Love you, Shay but Andrew’s method WINS. Especially if you have family members close in size. (We have three teens who basically wear adult sized clothing!). Sorting is easier and also I always feel like women’s clothing needs gentler washing!
Mix and Match Mama says
He’s going to love you, Kay. 😉
Joanne says
I do laundry “Andrews way” too; all three of my boys were always in similar sizes and my youngest to often had the exact same graphic tees and items that were impossible to sort so each kid has their own hamper in their own room and their own laundry basket and I’ve always done each person’s clothes separately. My husband’s clothes are always covered in grease and grime so even before we had kids I did his clothes separate from mine (after ruining a few items of my clothes!). Then as soon as my boys could reach the buttons I put a sticker on the cycle they needed to use to wash and dry and taught them in 10 minutes how to do their own.
Kelly Franks says
I haven’t gotten to the one load for each person, which is completely genius by the way. However, I did recently start putting underwear, socks and pj’s all in one load and I’ve haven’t lost as many socks as I usually do and I only do that once a week bc we all have enough of those to get by the whole week!
Mary says
The trick is…..everyone has their own basket. No need to sort that way. I’ve always done it this way and it’s efficient.
Kristen says
I love putting away laundry now for the sole reason of listening to a podcast while i do it!
I am embarrassed to say making my bed is my least fav chore!!!!
Sheaffer says
Do people still sweep? Not me. And mopping is from the devil. The end.
Lois says
LOL I’m on the floor !!!
Karen in Virginia says
Sheaffer just made me laugh so hard. She is hilarious!!
Mix and Match Mama says
She is HILARIOUS!
Alex says
Wait Sheaffer, same. That’s where the cordless vacuum comes in! 🙂
Jan says
I don’t even own a broom.
Kathryn says
Great post! I can’t wait to see more! This list was fun to make and pretty simple, especially the bottom list, since I complain to myself every time I do one of those.
Top:
5) cleaning counters
4) making the bed
3) vacuuming
2) cleaning kitchen/loading dishwasher
1) doing laundry (weird, I know)
Bottom:
5) polishing silver (rarely done but the cleaning products are so messy)
4) putting clean sheets on the bed (one of my very favorite things is having clean sheets but putting on the sheets takes so long doing it solo – the end result makes it worth it)
3) cleaning tubs/showers
2) mopping
1) dusting
Lyssy says
My favorite is vacuuming, which is good because my floors are light, my hair is dark, and that sunlight sure knows how to hit where I need to vacuum. I also love putting on a podcast/music and folding the laundry. The dishwasher is my least fav, it’s just so loud.
Hallie Yanez says
I couldn’t agree more about the mopping and the sweeping! I would say my top chore is probably the laundry. Would you be able to link the cordless vacuums that you use, we are in the market for a new one. Thank you!
Kelly Franks says
I need more time to think of my top and bottom but I know for sure vacuuming is top of my top list. We have a white lab and dark floors so our floors always have something to suck up! And I don’t know about you but I feel like Shark has stepped up their vacuuming game and seem to perform better than Dyson lately.
And I’ve been on a “listening to books” kick so give me all the laundry and an audio book!
Have you tried the o-cedar mop? Go Clean Co got me hooked on it back in 2020 and I use hot water and plain powdered tide and the smell is heavenly. I also change the water very often!
Last question, what chores are your ids responsible for daily, weekly and monthly? I have an 8 year old and he NEEDS some responsibility but I struggle with it being so much easier for me to do it than having him do it.
Katie says
Get a wet vac! It will change your life!! I can’t stand a dirty floor either and absolutely love mine!
Therese says
I’m laughing because my husband’s #1 least favorite is also unclogging a toilet. He literally will not do it. He will spend so much time interrogating everyone in the house to find out who was the last person in that bathroom and demanding someone come unclog their situation. Note, there’s a plunger in easy access to every toilet in our house, so it could be unclogged in seconds if he would just do it. I always end up doing it. I don’t love it (EWWW, toilets!) but it’s usually just a quick plunge, wash your hands and move on!
Mix and Match Mama says
Aren’t we glad no one is asking us to this chore?!
Susan says
Top Five: Vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom, dishes – loading dishwasher, starting laundry, watering house plants
Bottom Five: Dusting, mopping, cleaning windows, finishing the started laundry, dog poop in the yard.
Kay says
I am basically 100% with you on all top five! And send Andrew to my house because the last time I cleaned my windows, one folded in and fell on my head? No. Joke. OUCH.
I have a few differences in my bottom five:
-cleaning out takeout containers and leftover containers for recycling bin. IT IS SO GROSS. I feel like a bad person for all the food I’m wasting, the food looks GROSS, and did I really spend $82 to not finish this container of rice and noodles? It’s all bad.
-Cleaning out our chicken coop. I adore my backyard chickens. And fresh eggs! But those ladies enjoy keeping their coop up like a frat house! It is like a crime scene in there.
Love this post-always so much fun to read these!

3. folding laundry. it sits for a week almost before I finally put it away.
4. cleaning pots and pans (so many)
5. emptying the dishwasher. I do it most times, but I do not enjoy it.
Tasha says
One of my favorite chores: vacuuming with a cordless vacuum.
One of my least favorite chores: vacuuming with a corded vacuum.
Something about having to work around the cord/hold the cord/plug and unplug it from room to room makes it so much worse!!!
Monica says
Don’t like to sweep? Get a Roomba! It does it all for you! And it’s very satisfying to empty the bin – except for the fact that you realize it all came from your own floors!
I don’t have an answer for you about mopping though – it’s just me and my husband so I really only need to mop a couple times a month (except for the kitchen) and I just use a spray bottle cleaner and a microfiber mop. The kitchen I do on my hands and knees because it’s a galley kitchen and he’s a very messy cook.
sandi says
Bottom Five:
5/ Opening Mail
4/ Dusting baseboards
3/ Dusting blinds
2/ emptying the dishwasher (first assigned chore to my kids when they were little)
1/ deep cleaning my college kids bedrooms after a break (I love that it stays clean for a long time, but I just want to crawl in their beds and cry when they leave)
Top Five:
5/ Cleaning my college kids bedrooms after a break (I know I just listed it as a bottom five but hey, it stays clean for a long time! :-))
4/ organizing closets and purging
3/ making the bed
2/ cleaning countertops (especially in the kitchen)
1/ vacuuming (I love the lines on the carpet and not seeing bunny fur on the wood floors)
I wasn’t sure where to put washing windows… a chore I don’t like to do but LOVE when it is all done!
A great non heavy post after a heavy weekend. We had a funeral for a close friend that passed away from cancer. She was 53 and such a great light and example of a Christian wife and mom. When she said she was praying for you she was PRAYING for you. Her first grandbaby was born in August and her second is due this summer on her birthday. One of her boys asked what was on her bucket list when she was diagnosed three years ago… we can go sky diving mom, or Europe, what do you want to do? Her answer… I want to be exactly where God has me and to influence as many people to him as I can. She was a teacher and pointed her students to Christ daily, she witnessed to countless doctors and nurses and had a true JOY until the very end.
Patty says
Your friend sounds wonderful, Sandi. I’m sure she’s celebrating her new HOME. May God bless her for the many lives she touched along the way.
Debbie Jones says
You will change your mind about mopping if you get an O Cedar spin mop!!!! Cleans tile and hardwood (pump 9-10 times so that it isn’t too wet for hardwoods). 1 t of powdered Tide in a gallon of hot water. And it works great on baseboards. Some use it for walls as well, with clean water and mop head. This tip comes via gocleanco on IG.
Concetta says
You need the Cedar O spin mop. Mix it with hot hot water, powder tide, and Blue Dawn. It’s therapeutic to spin the mop I promise lol!
Kelly says
Totally agree with your top 5 and bottom 5! I just got a new cordless Dyson stick vac for Christmas, and I can’t stop with it!
Karen says
This was a fun one!
Top five:
Rearranging the furniture and cleaning under it all.
Making my bed
Cleaning the windowsills (Go Clean Co taught me!)
Folding clothes
Splitting wood for kindling
Bottom five:
Putting the laundry away
Cleaning the shower
Picking up the playroom
Washing windows
Cleaning the trash drawer (it gets bad so fast!)
Laci L Murray says
Top Fav Chore is Vacuum ! Least Fav is Mopping!

Recently discovered Spray Away. Foam in a can to clean mirrors and windows perfectly. Doesn’t run when you spray it. Sparkling clean. Discovered that’s what they use at my church on all the glass doors and I bought a can right away.
Another fun post!
Amy Coose says
What is your favorite product you use to clean counters? I’ve been using clorox wipes, but I don’t think it feels really clean to me?
Mix and Match Mama says
I use one from Weiman (I think that’s how you spell it) for granite/store. I like it!
Lauren says
I was coming to ask the same! Also what do you clean your stove top with?
Mix and Match Mama says
Typically just warm water and a little dish soap!

I love my vacmop so I vacuum and mop at one time and do it multiple times a day.
I also love to vacuum or shampoo carpets, wipe down counters and use the magic eraser on anything I can. lol. I don’t mind at all loading the dishwasher but I hate unloading the dishwasher.
Least favorites are laundry for sure and taking items up and down the stairs. I also get highly annoyed when blankets aren’t folded correctly and pillows aren’t in the right place. I feel like I have to fix blankets and pillows in the living room like 100 times a day. lol.
Brooke Richardson says
Oh and I hate sorting mail and going through it.
Katie Stewart says
I make my bed every single morning. Otherwise, I think about my unmade bed all day long and this makes for a reaaaalllly long, bad, day. No matter what, I make my bed. And my kids must make their bed. An unmade bed makes the whole room look messy and my brain cannot take it.

2. Resetting the house for the next day/quick tidy
1. Vacuuming- it’s just so satisfying

What’s your favorite counter cleaner?
Mix and Match Mama says
409 used to make one that I LOVED, but I haven’t seen it in stores in a long time. I use the granite/stone spray from Weiman (I think that’s how you spell it!). It works well!
megan jeffries says
We’re the same in our top 5. I will say dust is the same satisfaction level as cleaning counters and vacuuming, i dust using the little hose attachment on my cordless vacuum.
Stacey says
I LOVE clean floors, so we have a Tineco which I’d highly recommend. It does not work on carpet, but who cares when you already have to mop with something else… it’s a cordless vacuum, mop, and dryer all in one! It is amazing (and gross) to see what it gets off your floor each time. It does great too with dog hair. What I also love is that it self cleans (it talks to you and tells you when it’s time), so you know it’s actually a clean machine you’re using and not one full of mold. Since it uses cold water (we rotate between using their solution and just vinegar) it’s fine for hardwood floors. I love it! Not having to first sweep or vacuum before I mop, and knowing the floor’s actually being scrubbed and not just having the dirt pushed around (and then having it almost instantly dried) is AMAZING!

These Magic Cloths really work. I have several. They’re machine washable and with water, will leave your mirrors streak-free with minimal effort. Every time.
Various vendors sell them too.
Heather says
I love unloading the dishwasher, too! And I HATE loading it. All those dirty, disgusting dishes–yuck!
Re: checking the mail, you must sign up for Informed Delivery via USPS if they have it in your area. It’s free and I get an email every day with scanned pictures of everything getting delivered that day. Then I know when there’s something I actually need in the mailbox (which is almost never).
Bethany says
You need the O Cedars Spin Mop and use powder Tide!! It’s a game changer every time!!
Brook says
Mirror satisfaction: I never comment, but I feel that this can change your mind about cleaning mirrors. I even cleaned all the windows in my house, too. It’s so easy and no streaks. I even gifted a set to my mom and she was amazed. You wipe the mirror with one wet towel and then finish with the other dry towel. No cleaners!

I came hear expecting to hear all the comments saying “Get a Tineco!” and I am SHOCKED only one or two people have mentioned a wet vacuum so far.
Shay I need you to get this thing and report back on it. I also HATE mopping and everyone raves about the Tineco wet dry vac. Please please please try it and blog about it!

top 5: counters, cleaning out pantry/fridge/freezer, folding laundry, sweeping hardwood floors (not tile), hand-washing china or crystal
bottom 5: unloading dishwasher, taking out trash or recycle and then putting a new bag in the trashcan, putting sheets on beds, cleaning out cups that once held a smoothie/shake, getting oil changed or putting gas in the car
Debbie E says
My least favorite chore is emptying the dishwasher. I would rather clean the bathroom! Weird, I know but I just hate doing it!
I agree with your favorite though, I love to vacuum too. There’s such a good feeling looking at a freshly vacuumed rug. Plus I have a dog so I am always getting the vacuum out (more than once a day).
Amanda says
Love vacuuming. Also like dusting baseboards and using the magic eraser on walls! Love doing laundry. I don’t mind sweeping leaves off the patios in the fall and then bagging them.
Loathe mopping/washing floors and hate cleaning the glass shower door. Ugh. Also hate dusting blinds. Whyyyy????
And how do the insides of kitchen drawers (cutlery, fridge/produce, pots/pans, etc) get so gross??
Kathy says
I agree with Andrew about unclogging the toilet. I really didn’t understand the right way to do it for a long time. I had to have Dave do it. Now I can! Probably everyone else knows how, but I just couldn’t seem to do it.
Also, a Shark steam mop is a great way to mop.

hey girl-First I want to say that I am so sorry about your grandpa. I know he will be dearly missed. But I am so happy that we know where he is now. Up in heaven praising Jesus and being reunited with his wife. Oh so special. Shay just remember you will see both of them again yourself. I will be praying for you and your family. So….This post you had me cracking up. We are so alike in this department. I have always hated to dust. I do like to clean counters. empty the dishwasher, do laundry. I agree about the mopping to. Love ya Shay!!

Top 5: laundry (love clean, fresh clothes), trash (so satisfying seeing empty bins around the house), vacuuming (I hate seeing little lint and bits on the carpet), sweeping, cooking
Bottom 5: making the bed, dishes (my mom made me do dishes in high school as a punishment for making bad grades…rule did not apply for my brother), cleaning the bathroom, dusting, cleaning the fish tank

What product do you like best for the shower?
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t know that I love any one product…right now, I think it’s Mr. Clean, but I’m not passionate about any shower cleaner.

Top are any outdoor chores-mowing, landscape, watering, etc. And strangely ironing. I know. I’m showing my age but I watch food network & iron & it’s so relaxing to me.
Bottom-showers-walls & doors, especially glass. Hate it. The daily clean spray really does work so I get more time between cleans. Dusting is not a favorite and not sure this falls under chores but I HATE vacuuming & washing my car.

Hands down least favorites are cleaning tubs/showers and windows. The most thankless jobs since they immediately need attention!
As for mopping, I totally get you on the nasty water! I also couldn’t get past how gross the mop gets as you mop. But alas, on at a resort in Mexico I found the solution for me. The sweet staff cleaned the rooms twice a day & I noticed they didn’t mop with a bucket of soapy water. They used a spray bottle of cleaner with a mop that has a terry cloth attached. I thought the idea was brilliant. I now use a mop that has a fitted terry cloth & a spray bottle with Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Pure-Castle Soap. I purchased multiple fitted cloths so I can change them out as needed. I launder them after each use which keeps them clean and sanitary! It also keeps the floor from being dripping wet and taking forever to dry. No longer a hated chore 🙂

Can you share what vacuum you have? I need a new one and don’t know where to start.

Mine is several years old, but it’s the Dyson cordless and I love it!

I loathe, loathe, looooaaaathe unloading the dishwasher. I would do your entire list, top and bottom, ten times over if I never have to empty the dishwasher again. Loathe!
Mix and Match Mama says
Realllly?! Let’s swap, I’ll come do your dishes and you can mop my floors 🙂 !
JoAnne Lokey says
Bahaha. Deal 🙂

This is best way I’ve found to clean mirrors and not leave streaks. Fill the sink (after it’s been cleaned) with hot water and dawn dish soap. Squeeze a good bit of the soapy water out of the rag, then wipe the mirror down. Next, wipe it dry with a paper towel or microfiber cloth. I had a mirror that would NEVER be without streaks, and this method worked. Also, I love my o-cedar spin mop.

Grab a Norwex window cloth and you’ll stop hating mirrors..infact, you’ll feel like you just got glasses and everything snaps into focus. Bonus no chemical or sprays!!!

My top 1 is vacuuming, too! I can zone out or listen to a podcast AND I feel like it has the most satisfying, visible difference!

1. Don’t use the dust pan. Once you sweep it in a pile get the stick vacuum & suck it up! 😂
2. Get the O Cedar mop & bucket from Target! Use very hot water & 1 teaspoon of powder tide. Ring the mop out in the little turn thing in the bucket 10 times. Go watch gocleanco on IG. It changed my moping life! PS water is still super gross!
