Happy What’s Up Wednesday!
As always, on the last Wednesday of every month, Sheaffer and I host this little linky party where we share what’s going on with us right now. It’s a little food, a little family, a little what we’re wearing, a little what we’re doing, a little what we’re watching and a little bit of everything else all in one post.
You guys, it’s the end of JULY!
Not that I have to name a least favorite month, but you know how I am (YOU KNOW HOW I AM). My entire life is based on the seasons and what they hold and how I can make them special and amazing (blah, blah, you know me…it’s who I am). I *used* to say that April was my least favorite month but then retracted that statement this last spring when I realized that I actually love April, so then I think you helped me decide that August was my least favorite month, but you guys, I’m actually really excited about it this year. School will start, pre-season football will be back on TV, routines will be in place, I’ll be my most organized back-to-school-mom self. I’m really excited about August!
So that’s that.
July is coming to an end, and I’m excited about August 🙂 .
Now, it’s time to see what we’ve bee up to this month…
Andrew and the big kids have been gone this week, so I’ve been letting the little girls pick our menu.
On Sunday night, we had grilled chicken, veggies and chips with guacamole.
On Monday night, they wanted “taco nachos” (basically taco meat and cheese over chips in the oven with more guacamole and pico).
On Tuesday night, we grilled sausages, and tonight…we haven’t decided yet.
On Sunday night, I pulled out…
…my Oven Pan from Our Place to “grill” our chicken. Every time I use this thing, I think to myself that I need to talk about it more. I LOVE IT! I actually have one here and one back in Texas (both in the color ‘blue salt’). You fire up two burners and it goes over the top. I quickly did our chicken on one end and then once that was browned, I added a sliced summer squash to the other. It cleans up so easily, it’s oven-safe…I need to showcase this more and more because I truly love it enough to have two!
You guys, this little girl is about to start HIGH SCHOOL.
My heart.
Why do I think these next four years are about to fly by?
Time with my littles this week! We are having such a fun time together. We checked out books at the library (side note, if your kiddos haven’t read books by this author, they should…all three of my girls LOVED them!)…
…we have LOVED visiting the library this summer!
They made fairy houses at their art class…
…so cute 🙂 . We spent a little bit of time in town on Monday and are heading back there again today.
We’ve basically lived outside…
…they have spent so much time with their friends and sold bracelets and jewelry at their neighborhood stand.
And, of course, we went to the Monday night movie by the pool (we watched Honey, I’ve Shrunk the Kids this time). We’ve actually been to the neighborhood pool every day this week. I am so very very grateful that God didn’t listen to our prayers because where Andrew and I thought we wanted to be on Nantucket and where God knew my kids needed to be are two very different places.
Soaking in lots of family time and beach time before we head back to McKinney! We’re excited for everyone to return back to Nantucket later this week to finish out our summer.
I’m not trying to be negative, I’m just pointing out that…
…it’s going to be a lot harder for me to live my “outside girl life” in this weather compared to…
…this weather.
I’m just saying.
I love seeing all of the pictures from my clients sailing in Alaska this summer! Alaskan cruises are just one of my FAVORITE places to send my clients.
There is a lot that I love about my job, but one of my favorite things is hearing the stories and seeing the photos when everyone returns home.
So cute, right?!
Alaska, you are BEAUTIFUL! If you are interested in an Alaskan cruise in 2024, contact me today! I’d love to help you too! (Or if you’re interested in another destination, please reach out as well 🙂 )!
Amen.
I’ve shared this magazine before, but it’s one of my faves. I did a major magazine purge about two years ago (at one point, I think I subscribed to 18). This one made the cut 😉 .
And…
…on Sunday night, I cuddled up with my littles and my pups, and we watched Sabrina. Always a great choice.
We are clearly on a Harrison Ford kick because last night…
…we watched Six Days, Seven Nights 🙂 .
Because, yes.
When I was pregnant with Kensington, my mom and I went to one of his concerts while Andrew and my dad were on a mission trip. It was magical.
Andrew and I danced to his version of The Way You Look Tonight as our first song at our wedding reception.
He was the last of the greats from an era that was, in my opinion, the greatest of all time in music.
I loved my TENNIS SKIRT so much in navy that…
…I also bought it IN WHITE 🙂 . I’m wearing it with THIS TANK with it.
Don’t forget, if you’re also into the “tennis outfits” this summer…
…I’m really into THIS SKIRT too…
I have this skirt in three colors!
I also really love THIS TENNIS DRESS…
…and THIS ONE too!
Heading to the beach with my peeps!
And again, I say amen.
It has to be our PROPANE GRILL for the beach! It has been such a game-changer for our lunches!!
We pack up…
…our YETI TUNDRA COOLER and off we go to GRILL delicious ocean side lunches 🙂 .
Okay, that wraps up JULY’S WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY!
You guys, come back tomorrow for my favorite post of the month!

Girl! You better soak up the nice temps this week because it is all kinds of hot here in Texas!

My baby turns 16 tomorrow and starts her junior year in a couple weeks. I wish I could lie and tell you the next four years won’t go fast. Sigh. Still working on how I can convince her to let me homeschool her for college! 😉
Sheaffer says
That little scalloped tennis skirt is DARLING. And yes, you need to start preparing yourself for the heat here. It’s next level.
Kathy Lang says
I just purchased the Our Place oven pan in blue salt from the link in your blog. I had no idea that it worked as a griddle also, and that sold me! I am also so excited to go with friends on our Alaska cruise that you booked for us in July 2024!! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh Kathy, it’s such a game changer!! You will love it even more now! And I cannot wait to send you guys 🙂 !
Katie Stewart says
Same with the 99 degree days… gotta love Southeast MO weather! 😆
Have the best time with your littles this week!

Nantucket wins for the cutest library I’ve ever seen! Such a fun week with your girlies:) I’ve stopped many of my magazine subscriptions too, Curious to know which of the others made the cut?
Mix and Match Mama says
Good Housekeeping, Southern Living, New England Living, Coastal Living, Taste of Home and Women’s Health. (I think that’s all of them!) I LOVE reading magazines, but it was out of control at my house.
Elizabeth H Valenta says
You had me at pumpkin! I really live for FALL. Trying to stay cool and enjoy my last weeks of summer before school starts. I am so ordering that pan! That is perfect for me.
Melinda says
We had such a great time on our Alaskan cruise! Shay took care of everything and made the entire process easy-peasy! Definitely one of our best trips😊

It’s really a shame Madeley doesn’t have a personality whatsoever, hehe 🙂

It really is so sad 😉 .

Only one thing made me laugh…watching Harrison Ford movies with your youngest girls. I’m sure they were pumped. Ha! Have they seen both Parent Trap movies? My 10 & 12 yo girls love them.
Mix and Match Mama says
They liked Sabrina, but I was surprised when they LOVED Six Days, Seven Nights! What’s next? Regarding Henry? Haha!
Karah Stracener says
It looks like your having the best week with your littles. Enjoy those temps because this Texas heat is no joke!! I am going to look up that pan right now. I need that in my life.

I’ve been an avid follower and fan of your blog since 2015 or so and especially love the What’s Up Wednesday posts. They just make me smile and help me start my day off feeling all the good feels. Thank you for sharing these tidbits of your life with us. 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh my word, well THANK YOU! This means so much to me!! xx

Been loving your summer posts from ACK! The scallop skort looks amazing on you in both navy & white, so much so I think you need the pink one, too! 😉
Kiki says
Hi
Can you link to a post about what to wear on long flights?
Thank uou!
Mix and Match Mama says
I *think* I have but my answer is black (it doesn’t show the things you’ll probably spill on yourself/looks better after sleeping in it/looks less wrinkly), layers like joggers, long maxi dresses, things that cover you legs but you can layer jackets/sweatshirts/etc over the top.
Rachel Kazmier says
Fully agree on that generation and the music. Seriously Sinatra is my main channel I listen to on Sirius!
Kara says
Does the pan work on gas or electric stove tops? It looks like the perfect size!
Mix and Match Mama says
I only use it on gas!
Julie says
Just wondering how many schools are on the island?
Mix and Match Mama says
There is one elementary, one middle school and one high school in the Nantucket public school system. There are a few private schools too.
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I love the exterior of the library! So so cute! And I’ve already been strolling the fall aisles at Hobby Lobby wishing for cooler temps LOL

Speaking as a mom who has a high school graduate, hang on!! You think the other years flew by, HS went by in record time! Soak it all in and enjoy!!
Joanne says
Oh I like how you beach! That is waaay better than sandwiches. LOL. We were just talking about 6 Days 7 Nights the other day; we had something around the house break and when I texted my husband at work to let him know he was going to have to fix it he had written back he might not be able to and I was all like “can’t you just like glue it back on?” and “Aren’t you one of those guys that can build a shopping mall in the woods with a pocket knife?”
Mix and Match Mama says
YES!!!!! There are so many cute lines in that movie!!!
Michele says
Is this really your last weekend on Nantucket, before you head back to that McKinney heat?
Mix and Match Mama says
The McKinney heat is comin’ for me!
Andrea Hooper says
Shay, I just finished a book I devoured while waiting for jury duty. You should read the secret book of flora lea. It was really really good.
Kym says
At the beginning of every school year I was shocked at how quickly my babies were growing up. They’re ALL grown up now and all finished school and boy, that went by too fast! Enjoyed your recap!
sandi says
I am not going to wish for the next few years to go quickly for you but I cannot wait to see super organized back to school Shay with college kids. My girls have their items packed in bins and Ikea bags, bedding is clean and neatly folded. They know the date and time they are returning to college. They know the date and time their friends are returning to college. My son… doesn’t quite know when he needs to check in on campus, nothing is clean and folded, his friends show up when they show up. Books? Son, do you need books, the girls have theirs ordered? Yeah, I’ll figure it out. He’s a junior, has a 3.2 GPA and I don’t think he has purchased a single textbook… ever.
Great post and lots of details!
Janet says
Can you tell me where you got Madelyn’s multicolored striped slides? So cute😍
Mix and Match Mama says
Old Navy!
Martina Ingemarsson says
Don’t know if you have done that before but I would love a post about magazines 😊
