Happy happy Friday, friends!
I don’t know about you, but we have a full weekend ahead!
Fall sports will all officially be in full swing starting tomorrow when Ashby and Madeley each have their first games of the season. Add to that, a family dinner on Saturday and then on Sunday, the cheerleaders and their parents will be getting the school ready for homecoming week.
I might be a busy bee this weekend, but do not forget, I WILL BE HERE TOMORROW!
Our new ‘Tis the Season SATURDAY series kicked off last weekend, and you will now find me here each week for a bonus weekend post between now and Christmas.
Okay, let’s get to my batch of favorite things for this week! As always, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika and wishing you a wonderful weekend!
First up…
Woohoo! It was finally time for middle school football to begin! We’ve already had three weeks of high school football, so it was nice to finally get to see our boy play!
Can you tell who the younger kids are in the group? I love how Ashby, Bowen and Mades immediately assume the position of “children who spend a lot of time at siblings’ sporting events”. They’re playing one of our favorite card games TACO, CAT, GOAT, CHEESE, PIZZA.
The middle school was able to play at our “big” stadium on this night which made it extra fun!
And just like that…
…these two kiddos…
…got really big.
Geez my heart.
Well, I probably could do an entire post on this Fave…
…I put this on Instagram Saturday afternoon, but in case you missed it:
In 1966, when my dad was only 11 years old, his 25 year old brother-in-law, Bob was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Bob wanted to learn to play the guitar before he passed, so my aunt, his wife, bought him this one here. After he died only 9 months later, at only 26 years old, he left his guitar to my dad. Over the last 56 years, my dad has taught himself to play on this guitar. He’s written dozens and dozens and dozens of songs and played a million hours. Growing up, I have so many memories of my dad playing this guitar. Last year, Smith decided to teach himself how to play. He’s practiced and practiced, and on Saturday, with his sister’s blessing, my dad brought over the sweetest gift…his brother-in-law’s guitar.
I will never know my Uncle Bob on this side of Heaven, but with all my heart, I believe he knows that today, his niece’s son will now have his guitar to play and love as much as he…and his brother-in-law did.
JEANS//BODYSUIT//JACKET (I bought in xs petite)//BOOTIES (now 35% off!)
I showed you THESE JEANS a few weeks ago (it’s the season of jeans around here!), decided I loved them so much that I bought them in a different wash…
…I have worn them so many times this week! Here is the major reason why I love THESE JEANS…they come in different lengths! I buy them in “short” but they come in extra short, regular, long and extra long too. PRAISE FOR THAT! If you’re my size (5’3″), shorter, taller or much taller, I highly recommend! They have a great amount of stretch and are so comfy too! FYI, MY TOP IS HERE 🙂 .
Wore THE JEANS again with THIS TOP…
…and again with my FAVORITE CARDIGAN (the color is A Tea Rose and you can find MY TANK in beige too)…
Which, as you can see…
…is always on repeat over here 😉 .
One more #ootd this week…
…THIS TOP and MY SNEAKERS 🙂 .
On Sunday, I wore…
…THIS DRESS with my new BOOTIES! How cute are these booties?!
I bought them in white, but they come in black, a really pretty red and grey too! I love, love, love a peep toe for fall. They are surprisingly comfy too 🙂 .
These two are favorites of mine this week. They just play, play, play together all the time. Right now, they’re really into Life. I just love walking by and seeing them in there playing together. Love these girlies.
Wrap up your week by making my DELICIOUS CRANBERRY ALMOND GRANOLA! I promise you that when you make this, your family will comment about how amazing your house smells. It’s so simple, smells divine, and is delicious. Bonus, it’s easy to make gluten-free too!
One last thing for our Friday…
…our last picture as a family of FIVE! Seven years ago, this group had Mexican food, went to sleep and then the next morning we headed back to China to get that last piece of the puzzle. We are so excited to celebrate SEVEN YEARS with Mades on Monday! You can read about our journey HERE!
That wraps up our week! I will see you back here TOMORROW! xx

Oh my goodness!! Those tiny Halloween babies! If I could go back to that day…I’d savor each and every snuggle AND I’d order him a size bigger on the costume. 😂😂 Remember how it was way too little?
Mix and Match Mama says
I do…but geez, we had four babies. Who could remember to order the right size?!
Elspeth says

I did catch your Instagram post about the special guitar your Dad gave to Smith. It’s such a family treasure!
SS says
Awe how special for your Dad and Smith. I have my Dad’s guitar. Our son wanted to learn as well.
Did your olders go through the game of Life playing? Ours all did too! They played my game of Life I had as a kid! They have played Othello too…I loved that game in 3rd grade.
How exciting to watch Smith play football. What is this cheerleaders get the school ready? I know Texas and football are like PB & j. Up here each class was responsible for decorating ‘their’ part of the hall(tiny school).
In your free time Virgin River new season came out yesterday!!! Yay!!
Have a great fall weekend. Our orchard started fall donuts apple sea salt caramel, pumpkin and of course cinnamon and sugar.

Hi Shay! Such an adorable denim dress! Quick question…is the v neck too low? Can you wear a bra with it? What size did you get? Have an amazing weekend!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh for sure you can wear a bra! I bought it in the size 2. It’s not low.

Seven years ago already?! I’ve been reading your blog for so long, since before you adopted Ashby. So wild. I also rarely leave a comment so maybe I’ll start doing this more 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Please! I appreciate you reading my blog SO MUCH!
Millie says
How do you get your jeans not to stick to you when it is 100 degrees in Texas? Mine always stick to me when it’s humid and hot out!
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t spend a lot of time outside. I’m running from AC to AC, so it’s not a problem 😉 .
Traci R says
Hi Shay! I love your blog! Can’t wait to try the granola. Can you share a link to your slippers? Thanks! Have a great weekend!

What a priceless gift that guitar is for Smith and your family. I bet there will be many more names inscribed in years to come.
Karah Stracener says
The tradition of the guitar is so special…..what a special memory. I have no idea how your already wearing jeans. Its still in the triple digits in East Texas and I am melting. haha 🙂 I hope you have a fun weekend, you have me inspired to decorate for fall this weekend.
Mix and Match Mama says
It depends on where I’m headed. That darn AC makes the doctors office, restaurants, shops, school, etc chilly. At home, I need layers…Andrew Shull thinks I must be hanging meat during the day…
Terry says
I have never seen a badge like that on a guitar. It made me get a little misty! Somehow I think the significance of that is not lost on your son. What an amazing gift!
DIANE says
Would love to know which game your girls are playing……looks like a fun board. Just something that I think my granddaughters might enjoy. Thank you for all the wonderful sharing you do with your family. Blessings upon you all.

Hi Shay! How did you get SW High Reflective White paint color? I asked for it and it looks warm/yellow to me ug! I am looking for that REALLY white look!
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s what my entire home on Nantucket is painted in, and it’s very very white. They must have given you a bad/wrong sample.
Lisa says
Absolutely love the guitar story, I got a little teary when I read it on IG. Seems like Madely has always been a Shull, especially when she looks just like her Dad! Such a special girl you’ve got! 😊
Kristin Lyngaas says
That guitar is such a beautiful and special gift. I’m sure Smith will just love it for a very long time. Your dad is a wonderful man.
