Happy What’s Up Wednesday, friends!
You guys, my favorite month of the year is almost over. Why was August 155 days long and yet September has flown by?
Here’s the good news though…even though my favorite month is coming to an end, my second favorite month is next 🙂 .
I’m giddy about October.
Okay, as always, on the last Wednesday of every month, Sheaffer and I host this little linky party where we share what’s going on with us right now. It’s a little food, a little family, a little what we’re wearing, a little what we’re doing, a little what we’re watching and a little bit of everything else all in one post.
Here we go…
On Monday night, we had my SLOPPY JOE STUFFED SPUDS.
Last night, Andrew made us CLASSIC CHEESEBURGERS before Smith’s game and then tonight, I’m making a *new* recipe.
If you’re into your air fryer (and you know we are totally into ours!), make sure you head over and take a look at my favorite AUTUMN AIR FRYER RECIPES today too like…
…our AIR FRYER PANCAKE DONUTS and…
…our AIR FRYER MAPLE MUSTARD CRISPY CHICKEN!
Awwwwww! I love this picture so much! This was them! THEY WERE ALWAYS LAUGHING!! You guys, today would have been my Mimi’s birthday. I think of them both every single day…but today, I am thinking of her extra.
Call, visit, hug and love on those sweet grandparents of yours as often as you can. Life goes by quickly.
You guys, I know that basically everyone on the internet already had THESE SLIPPERS, but they’re new to me, and I love them!
They’re just light and super easy to wear. I bought them just for us to have in Mexico, but right now, as I sit here in McKinney, they’re still on my feet…
If you’re looking for a really lightweight, easy to wear, inexpensive yet adorable pair of slippers, here you go 🙂 .
Lots of family time watching sporting events (please note Smith’s smile, we’re going to talk about it again in a minute).
We had the varsity football game on Friday night…
…where this week, we sat on the visitors side of our stadium and played one of our other McKinney high schools.
We love our Friday night lights!
Then on Saturday…
…we watched Mades play volleyball and then…
…we watched Ashby play soccer. What a great way to spend a Saturday!
The weather.
I now wake up and dread this stupid weather.
For the love, Texas! Enough already!
You know my boy is particular about what pics I share and what I say regarding his existence in this world, but he did say I could absolutely share this…we decided to visit a new to us orthodontist in August, and this kid is LOVING his new orthodontic treatment. I will make a long story short…but between my four kids, we have four orthodontists. Yes. It’s stupid. In August, Smith and I went to visit one of them to begin his Phase 2 of braces (he had Phase 1 about 18 months ago). We went, it was a lovely appointment, we scheduled his braces to be put on the next day, but he just felt OFF about it. In the car, he expressed his concerns and asked if we could please get another opinion. Even though this was “the plan”, I went back inside and cancelled our appointment, and then I called Sheaffer who I knew loved their ortho. I called, got him in that very week and now, Smith is doing his Phase 2 with the new orthodontist and LOVES it. He is at such peace about the new treatment plan which, for him, includes Invisalign (you can’t even tell, right?!).
I say all of this to say, I know for me as a mom, I often have “a plan” that I want to implement for each kid, but they’re all so different and have such different needs that I need to check myself and make sure I’m not trying to “cookie cutter” them all into the same thing (i.e. braces treatment plans). We are thrilled with the new ortho, his office and Smith is so excited to be moving in this new direction. If you’re local, I couldn’t recommend them enough. You can find their info HERE.
Did you guys catch my SEPTEMBER BOOK REVIEW?! Friends, you need to check it out!! Even if you read the post, go back now and check out the comment section for even more amazing book recommendations!
And right this very minute as I type this…
…I’m watching/listening to this classic 🙂 .
Which also answers the question to…
Awwwww! How sweet are these pictures of my clients on their Viking River Cruise!
This was just last week in the Alps when they were on an excursion! So fun, right?!
You guys, they are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary! Isn’t that AMAZING?! Bravo, bravo!
I love helping clients find the perfect vacation just for them, and let me tell you, this couple LOVED their river cruise. If you are interested in a Viking River Cruise through Europe too (or any cruise or vacation destination), reach out! We would love to help you too!
You guys, I pulled out my awesome skirt for our trip to Mexico!
I wore this skirt earlier this year in the DR and loved it so much that I brought it on this last vacation too. It’s under $25, comes in so many fun colors and prints, doesn’t wrinkle and is comfy! Love it!
Other than that, this month, I’m recapping all the great things I found to wear in September because so many of them are on sale!!
Here’s a little look back…
JEANS//BODYSUIT//JACKET (I bought in xs petite)//BOOTIES (now 55% off! 55%!!)
THIS SLEEVELESS SWEATER with these JEANS and BOOTS!
THIS TOP is too cute too!
THIS TOP is perfect for transitioning! It comes in 28 other colors too!
I am a BIG FAN of THIS 3/4 LENGTH TOP! The fabric is light (great for transitioning!), but the style says “wear me in the fall”. I love black, but it does come in SO MANY OTHER COLORS too!
I mean, someone hand me a PSL and send me to the pumpkin patch! How cute is THIS SWEATER?! And you know me, it is soft with ZERO itch. I don’t do itchy AT ALL.
An OVER-SIZED FLANNEL for the win!
My FAVORITE CARDIGAN (the color is A Tea Rose and you can find MY TANK in beige too).
THESE JEANS…they come in different lengths! I buy them in “short” but they come in extra short, regular, long and extra long too. Woohoo! If you’re my size (5’3″), shorter, taller or much taller, I highly recommend! They have a great amount of stretch and are so comfy too! FYI, MY TOP IS HERE 🙂 .
THIS TOP and MY SNEAKERS
THIS DRESS with my new BOOTIES!
This sweatshirt gave me all the happy feels for fall.
TOP (ON SALE!)//HAT//JEANS//BOOTIES (ON SALE!)

TOP (ON SALE!)//HAT//JEANS//BOOTIES (ON SALE!)
I’m actually wearing THIS TOP right this second…
So cute, right?!
How cute is this oversized tee?! TREAT OR TREAT is right!
And speaking of cute…how cute is MY PULLOVER?!
I just love this one so very much!
It has one big pocket across the front (that zips up so it’s not bulky) and the thumb thing too (what is that called?!). It comes in other colors and is an Old Navy find! Woohoo! I bought it in xs (runs TTS). Such a good find!
You guys, YOU KNOW I LOVE THEIR PUFFER VESTS and right now, THEY’RE ON SALE! I have been buying/wearing/sharing Gap/Old Navy’s PUFFER VESTS since 2015, friends. The quality is outstanding, they last forever, and you can wash and dry them a million times. I know you can pay much more for a good puffer vest, but I’ve yet to find one I love more than THESE.
I bought THIS MARINER SHIRT to wear all seasons. I love me a quality striped top.
And that my friends, wraps up this month’s edition of WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY!
If you blogged WUW with us too today, please make sure you link up below!
I hope you all had a wonderful September! I’m so excited to see what October has in store!
Have the best day! xx
Laura says
That’s awesome that Smith is so pumped about the Otho! Are you going to share pictures of Kensington in her homecoming dress? Would love to see them! Have a great day.
Mix and Match Mama says
She looked beautiful for homecoming, but those photos have not been “teen girl approved”, so I probably won’t be sharing them. She went with a huge group of friends, and they all looked gorgeous.
Elspeth says
What a fun recap! I can’t wait for fall to settle in more come October!

Erika Slaughter says
That last quote!! Will it EVER happen for us?!
Mix and Match Mama says
No, it won’t. I feel like we’re almost back around to summer again.
Lauren says
As silly as this sounds, I’d love to see a tutorial on how you tied your flannel to make it look so polished and cute!😊
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh you’re so sweet!
Josie says
I did the exact same thing w my kids and orthodontics. I took my daughter for a consult w my sons orthodontist and just flew off about their plan for her, even tho “everyone” raves about this ortho. They wanted her to get 5 teeth pulled right away and get braces on immediately. Got a second opinion and they said to wait 6 months and she only needed 2 teeth pulled and treatment would be 6 months less. Also an orthodontist people rave about so I knew he was good too. Checked w two dentists and they also said no way did she need 5 teeth pulled. So yes. Always trust your gut w these things!! I feel so much better about our plan now. Tho it was awkward when my sons ortho asked when we were coming back w her.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you for the encouragement!!! This mama appreciates it so much. xx
Laura says
I’m sure this is old and you’ve seen it, but JUST IN CASE NOT this was randomly suggested to me on YouTube: “Everyone in McKinney is dead (from the heat)” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl2JnXjwWBM lol!
Love that you remember your grandparents as “always laughing.” And love seeing that 50th anniversary trip. What inspirations!
Mix and Match Mama says
I have and it makes me laugh EVERY SINGLE TIME!
Robin says
Look forward to a little dose of MAMM every AM 😊
Would you mind lmk what heels (wedges?) you have on with your skirt in Mexico? Thank you!! Happy Wednesday 🤗
Mix and Match Mama says
I love it! 🙂 Okay, those are FOREVER OLD. I bet they’re six or seven years old at least. Happy Wednesday to YOU!
marty says
Hi Shay! Any chance you could share the lipstick color/brand you are wearing in the picture of you and Madeley in the red Broncos tank?? Please and thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s from Mary Kay! It’s Luminous Lilac!
SS says
Awe Shay.. what a great pic of your gparents!!! Happy Birthday to her! When our kids were.littlr I would say I am taking pix of you with gma &gpa before we leave. My Gpa lived to be 100.5…I have a great pic of our olders (he passed before youngest was born) with him just 2 wks before he passed. Let’s just take pix you NEVER KNOW with anyone.
We have been coolish here 70s and leaves are turning and falling, but warm weather keep creeping back in. Lol.
K.K. says
I love that MOVIE so much!! I may play it in the background while I work today too. So, so good! AND – I love the comment above. I, too, would LOVE to see Kensington’s homecoming style, but I’m so glad you do this thing the way you do, Shay!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you! xx
Sophia says
Hi Shay, where did you get the pink watch band?

Arika says
Andrew looks almost like a Red Sox fan in that red football shirt! Haha!
Mix and Match Mama says
Isn’t it amazing?
Bri R says
Off topic sort of- but the echo show …what skill do the girls use? I cannot find it!
Mix and Match Mama says
They love to use “how to draw”.
Samantha says
Hi. Fun trip to Mexico. Love the skirt above. Quick question do you pay for all your employees hotel rooms, food etc ? That’s awfully generous or because it’s a travel agency group do you get comped a lot? Love your blog!! Thanks.
Mix and Match Mama says
We did not get comped for any of it. As an agency, we always pay out of pocket for our own vacations. I always want to be able to tell my clients that we love travel so much that we go where we want to go, when we want to go on our own dime and not because someone else is paying. Nothing about this trip was paid for by anyone but me.
SC says
Happy heavenly birthday to your Mimi!!
Thanks for the rec for the orthodontist. We need one 🙂
Do you have recommendation for speech therapist/clinic too? My 5 year do not like her new speech person, even though I love her bubbly personality.. I just can’t explain why.. but I need to get a second opinion for her sake! Thanks!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!! We love our speech therapist! She works privately, so why don’t you email me and then, I can connect you with her? mixandmatchmama@yahoo.com
Michele says
Isn’t the Invisalign a lot more expensive than regular braces?
Mix and Match Mama says
It was not! It wasn’t significantly less expensive, but it was a little less than what his Phase 2 was going to cost.
Shelly says
Please Lord bring some fall to Texas soon!!! I want to wear all these fall outfits.
Sarah Madsen says
I love all of your outfit pics! Keep them coming 😉
I am 5’10, athletic build, so obviously we have different body types, but your recs and ideas help me style myself often, so I appreciate you for that!
I just bought a ton of cute fall items from Evereve, but have been influenced to grab that adorable puffer vest from Old Navy (perfect for SD winters that never end….) and threw in some cute basics- turtlenecks, striped long sleeves, etc.
Sending some cool fall weather your way!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you SO MUCH, Sarah!!!!!
Judy says
What fun to see my friend Beverly and her hubby on their Viking cruise!!!! She and I are in the same book club!!! Love your column every time!! Fact!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwwww! I just love them so much!
Joanne says
So glad you found an ortho he was happy with! I do find, especially as they get older, you’ve got to give them that freedom to speak up and in order to do that you have to really listen to them.
Alissa says
The striped sweater from Loft you have linked (one pic is with a tan hat and the one below it’s the one you say you’re wearing right now)- it’s taking me to a home page and not the actual sweater. Is it possible that’s an issue just on my end?! It’s so cute!!
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s so weird! I just tried and it opened right up. Try again and let me know if you’re having issues. Thank YOU!
Gina says
This is totally random, but do the kids of your friend group ever hang out together since many of them are the same age? I know yours hang with Erika’s, but I’m thinking of that photo of all of them going into kindergarten together which included Sheaffer’s, Andrea’s, and Jeni’s boys. Also, I really hope y’all recreate that pic when they all go into their senior year! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Unfortunately, no. They used to back in the day when we all would have play dates but everyone’s kids go to different schools and are all involved in different activities. My kids and Erika’s kids attend the same schools and live near each other which is such a blessing.
Sheaffer says
I’m so happy that Smith is loving Invisalign. It has been the greatest experience for Carter. I think we’re about 1/2 way thru, and we haven’t had any issues at all!
