Happy SATURDAY from McKinney, TX, friends!
Listen, this is the year, I’m going to keep you on your toes 😉 .
I hit the pause button yesterday on my summer fun on Nantucket to fly back to Dallas so that I could go pick my sweet Kensington up from cheer camp and watch her team perform today. I have missed that girl and cannot wait to see her!
I am SO EXCITED to be with you today for the first edition of SHAY’S SUMMER SATURDAYS for 2024!
Last year, we kicked this off, and the feedback from you was really, really exciting/encouraging/supportive/into these bonus posts. Not only is this our first Saturday post of the season, but IT’S ALSO JUNE 1ST!
I like June.
What’s not to like?
Warmer weather (but it’s not terribly horribly hot yet).
Everything kind of relaxes (schedules, what you’re wearing, bedtimes, wakeup times, people’s moods).
School is out (or almost out!).
You have the whole summer ahead of you.
Just like last year, these posts will vary week to week, but they’ll always have content you can only find here. They’ll be happy, fun, light and oh so summery.
Enjoy!
As you might imagine, I get asked A LOT of questions about Nantucket. A lot. I try to answer each and every one of them as thoughtfully and specifically as I can, but one question in particular that I get asked over and over again is “What are you favorite restaurants for dinner?”. So today, I’m going to share my TOP FIVE SUMMER RESTAURANTS ON NANTUCKET.
Listen, this is like asking me to pick my favorite children (or heaven forbid, my favorite dogs!) because I truly, truly love so many of them…and for different reasons/different seasons/different occasions one might be better than the other, B-U-T I’m going to name FIVE here that I really love for summertime.
In no particular order, here are my TOP FIVE SUMMER RESTAURANTS ON NANTUCKET:
#1: GALLEY BEACH
Views for dayyyyyyys. This is us at Galley Beach. This restaurant isn’t “in town”, so it’s not super super convenient, but the setting (tables on the sand!) and the sunset make it a TOP FIVE for me during the summer.
#2: BRANT POINT GRILL
Harbor views and delicious food (the lobster mac and cheese!) is why this is a TOP FIVE summer restaurant spot for our family!
#3: BAR YOSHI
If you like shelled lanes and cozy little restaurants on the harbor with the most amazing sushi and oysters then Bar Yoshi is your place. This restaurant is new-ish and was so packed last year that they opened O Bar as well (directly across from it) for drinks and oysters.
#4: CRU
This is probably the most quintessential Nantucket spot for water dining. This is one of those places where we always bring people (or recommend to friends) visiting for the first time. We were just there on Thursday night, and it was an amazing as ever. Water views, the freshest seafood and oysters…it’s an experience to eat at Cru.
#5: THE CHANTICLEER
The Chanticleer in Sconset is not convenient if you don’t have a car (as it’s tucked away on the eastern most end of the island), but what it lacks in accessibility, it makes up for in cozy, quaint, intimate, amazing summer dining. Whether we eat inside the dining room or out on “the lawn”, it’s truly a treat and one of my very favorite dinner spots on Nantucket.
Don’t forget, you can see my master list of NANTUCKET RESTAURANTS (including very specific details about where/when/time of day for dining/convenience/etc all broken down into categories) HERE! That post there is A MUST (in my opinion!) if you’re looking for any type of meal from snacks to dinner, breakfast, lunch and all things in between.
From our first week in 2023 to…
…our first week in 2024, we are having THE BEST TIME!
Who doesn’t love a summer sale?!
Cute sweaters for summer on sale? YES, PLEASE! MY SWEATER this week is on sale right now and comes in many other colors and stripes. Isn’t it so cute?! It was the perfect summer sweater.
Here are a few other SALE ITEMS I’m loving from American Eagle including…
… THIS SWEATSHIRT and SHORTS!
My LINEN TEE is also on sale today as well as…
…my LINEN DRESS and…
…MY SKIRT!
You guys, I have been tasked with something super, super special…
…my dear friend Lauren has been writing a book this last year and asked me to read her first draft. It has been SUCH A JOY!!! Right now, Lauren is still working to secure an agent and publisher for her debut novel, The France Dance, and I cannot wait for it to become available for all of you to read too. I am so honored to be reading this advanced copy of something so precious to my dear friend. It is a book YOU WILL LOVE!!
Looky what they’ve been up to…
…tennis, baby!
We visited The Tennis Loft this week to get gear for the little girls to take lessons and the boys in our family to just go out there and play (they scoffed at lessons). All four of them hit the courts this week and had so much fun!
Charlie and I enjoyed watching the four of them play. The girls met their new tennis instructor at their first lesson and loved him. The first thing Mades said after the lesson was “it’s not nearly as hot at these lessons as it is at my McKinney lessons”. No, Mades. No, it is not. At their last lesson in Texas, I think the high was 90…it was 63 when they played this week 😉 .
My travel agency has clients on vacation every single day of the year, and I LOVE looking at their photos on social media or when they return home. Summer vacation season though is probably my fave. We have clients all over the world right now including…
…ITALY! Who doesn’t want to “summer” in Italy?!
Want to go too? We’ll get you there! CONTACT US TODAY!
That wraps up our first SUMMER SATURDAY post for 2024! Thank you so much for spending your weekend with me. I hope you all have the BEST day! I’ll see you back here on Monday!
Happy weekend! xx

Are al the dogs at nantucket with you or just charlie?

Right now, just Charlie. The other three stayed with Kensington.

I always wonder what the restaurant owners on Nantucket do during the season they’re closed.
Do they make enough in the summer to live off it the rest of the year? If not, how do they survive?
I thought you might have some insight into that. 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Not just the restaurants but almost all of the shops close after Columbus Day along with most of the inns/hotels/B&B. I think it varies (some can live off their seasonal earnings) while others (a lot!) seem to go down to Florida or the Caribbean and rinse and repeat in another tourism spot during the opposite high season. Some, get other jobs during the off season. I have a friend who works seven days a week at two different restaurants during the summer season and then lives in Connecticut during the other 9 months of the year. It really does seem to vary.
Shannon says
So interesting! Thanks for your response! 😘

EEK!! I love summer Saturdays!!!
Mary Dollar ⭐️ says
Nantucket seems so idyllic. I can’t imagine having any issues with crime. Is there a police force of any kind on the island?
Mix and Match Mama says
There is a police force there on the island and along with other jobs (like doctors, nurses, fireman, etc) they bring in extra officers during the summer season for the influx in seasonal residents and tourists. Crime is relatively low compared to other places.
Kristen says
My co worker grew up on the island and I love to hear her stories. And her brother is a police officer on the island 🙂 I love hearing about what families she grew up with stayed islanders and what percentage left.
Grace says
What a nice surprise when I saw this post for Saturday! Looking forward to it!

Oh goodness, thank YOU!!! I can’t wait to summer with you too!
Ellen Brown says
Do you mostly have to have reservations for dinners out? I’m hoping to make it to Nantucket eventually and all of your boat just prove to me it’s a bucket list place!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes, reservations are a must at most places!
Sheaffer says
Now I want a tan and oysters.
Steph says
I’m loving your darker hair (which I know you mentioned in a previous post). What do you tell your stylist to do? 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I just told her to make it more of my natural color, so she’s been transitioning out of highlights and letting it just “be”. Thank YOU! I like it too!
Melissa Skindlov says
I love that you call Madely, Mades because I call my Hadley, Hads! All the time!❤️
Mix and Match Mama says
She is such a Mades 🙂 .
Juilanna says
Congrats to your friend, Lauren! My friend also just published an adorable ebook. She is still working on marketing it, so I wanted to share with you to read… Dear James by Marin B Greene. I think you will love it!
Dustin says
Love your Nantucket posts! I also love your denim shorts you are wearing with the striped sweater. Are they Agolde? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s these right here: https://shopstyle.it/l/cb3Xd
Mary Gaiser says
Do the Nantucket restaurant recommendations have good gluten free options? I am curious as, like you, I have a teen daughter with celiac and am always looking for options when we travel. Thanks so much!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! All of the places we visit have many different options/ways of preparing food that is gf for Kensington.
