It’s September 1st which means…
…IT’S MY FAVORITE DAY OF THE YEAR!
Woohoo!
We have arrived 🙂 .
On Friday night, I was sitting at a high school football game, up in the bleachers next to my brother, and he said something about the weather breaking in September. I told him that was one of the reasons why September 1st was my favorite day of the year. He wanted to know what my other reasons were and I told him because:
It’s the end of long, hot August. Even if the weather doesn’t cool down immediately, you know it’s around the corner.
School is back in session which always feels like the beginning of a new year to me.
Starbucks has their fall menu out and even if I don’t always order a Pumpkin Spice Latte, it makes me happy to see it on the menu.
Football is back.
September baseball is by far the best regular season baseball.
The food starts to get cozy. I can start making chilis and soups and yummy baked goods.
The stores start to set fall decorations out.
My house smells like cinnamon and cloves.
Pumpkins begin to make an appearance and nothing makes me happier than a pumpkin.
The leaves start to change.
The mornings get crisp.
The State Fair of Texas begins.
My brother looked at me and then finally said, “You’re wrong. December 1st is the best day of the year.”.
Bahahahahaha!
Then yesterday morning, he texted me just to tell me once more, “You’re wrong. December 1st is the best day of the year.”.
I died laughing! Three days later, and he was still thinking about it. I’m still chuckling.
Whether you think today is the best day of the year or December 1st or A-N-Y of the 365 the Lord gives us to live, I think it’s always a good idea to stop and celebrate even the most random days. It’s easy to celebrate birthdays and holidays…but there’s something special when you start celebrating any old day.

I am always so grateful to spend all of my days with this community, but it’s especially sweet to be here with you during the ‘ber months.
Guess what I’m going to do to kick off fall?
I am going to take a few days off. Ha!
Tomorrow, I am going to decorate my house for FALL (which is always one of my favorite things to do!), and then on Thursday and Friday, I have a travel agent conference to attend. The good news is that it’s in Dallas which means that I can attend AND leave each evening to go watch both Lovejoy High play football on Thursday night and then McKinney Boyd High play on Friday night.
I will be out tomorrow and Thursday, but I will have a FRIDAY POST this week before we all take off for Labor Day weekend.
Needless to say, I’ll be extra peppy on Friday because I’ll have my pumpkins up.
And pumpkins always make me happy.

Fall is hard for me to get excited about until the leaves start to change colors, but your message is helping today. I don’t like the shorter, darker days, so can’t say that December 1st is my favorite day either! Probably more like May 1st for me! So I put my pumpkin tea towel and two fall pillows out today. And our weather decided to celebrate September 1 by giving us a humidex temperature of 38C (100F). We rarely get temperatures like that so our weather must be channelling Texas today. I don’t know how you survive this for months on end… Happy September 1!!!

I am taking a page from your travel book and applying it to my everyday life. You said you don’t let the turkeys get you down. You look for the bright spot in any situation. This 73 yr old Art teacher, still teaching middle school and boxing 5-7 hours a week is not going to be my usual sarcastic self. I will be upbeat, smiley, and look for the silver lining in any dire situation. I am going to stop complaining about things I cannot change. I am not going to get pissed off. My usual don’t get mad, get even is going to soften to being upbeat and when someone pissed me off I am going to pretend I’m from the South where they say,”bless your heart.” In my head I will still be giving them a what for but my outward self will be pleasant.

For the contributing part I am running Lucy belles Rainbow a non profit that provides art bags for children fighting cancer at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Yesterday it was August and today it’s September! The weather hasn’t really changed but it’s the ANTICIPATION of the cool, crisp days, the pretty Fall leaves, allllll the cinnamon, pumpkin apples things. I love that my wardrobe will change from shorts and t’s to jeans and sweaters. Soups, chilis, football. I mean Fall has it ALL!
