Happy happy Friday!
I hope you all have had a wonderful first week of September. Our kids had a long Labor Day weekend break, so it has certainly felt like a short week over here (they didn’t go back to school until Wednesday). This weekend, we have Ashby’s first soccer game and other than that, not much else. I’m hoping I can wrangle Smith into going to Calloway’s with me to get pumpkins for the front porch (as Andrew can’t bend, lift or twist for several months). We’ll see if I can manage trapping him in the car and getting him there 😉 .
In the meantime, I have my FAVORITE THINGS this week!
As always, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika and sharing and wishing you a fabulously fall Friday! xx
Without a doubt, this was my favorite thing this week…
…last year, we had BRUTAL September weather with record breaking temps, so this week’s weather has been an absolute BLESSING! I know that it *could* go back up to 100 buuuuut geez, it’s been so lovely.
I mean, it’s not this weather…
…but it’s close enough 😉 .
One extra extra bonus is that for the first time in 10+ years, my husband can go on walks with me in the evening. Andrew’s back has prevented him from walking for years now (especially over the last two years), but now, part of his rehab is walking one hour a day. Thanks to the lovely weather and light schedule this week, we’ve been able to go on several evening walks. I told him I finally got the marriage I’ve always wanted…he rolled his eyes 😉 .
Another favorite this week was…
…thanks to some help from Smith on Friday and Mades on Saturday…
…we have our cozy fall house all decorated for the season.
Per usual, a full fall home tour is to come, but for now, here’s my current view. It makes me oh so happy! (My desk calendar makes me oh so happy too!)
You guys, I’m swooning over…
…my BOHO FLOWY SHORTS! How cute are they?! I wore them to church on Sunday because they look just like a skirt except…
…they’re actually shorts. They come in 25 different colors/patterns too and are only $28! I bought mine in “floral brown”. LOVE!!!
Also, don’t forget that THESE BOOTIES are now 35% off and come in black too!
This week, being with you here in blog world was certainly a favorite!
Just to recap, we had some FALL FUN…
…if you missed it, make sure you check out YOUR TOP 10 CHARMING FALL TOWNS IN THE US along with over 100 other recommendations all over the country. There is SO MUCH amazing info in just the comment section alone!
Yesterday, I shared…
…my annual SWEATER WEATHER FALL HAUL! Almost every single item here is around $30ish or under and comes in MULITPLE COLORS/PRINTS!
I have so many cute sweaters and tops to help us transition into fall like…
…THIS CAP SLEEVE SWEATER! Plus…
…this RIBBED MOCK NECK SWEATER…
…THIS SWEATER (which just screams Thanksgiving Day to me) and many, many more. You can find them all HERE!
We also celebrated…
…SHAY’S FAVORITE DAY GIVEAWAY this week!
THIS GIVEAWAY goes all month long, so make sure you check out the details and complete the Rafflecopter on THIS POST!
You guys, Ashby and Mades have been telling me that “Ms. Erika has the best pretzels at her house”, so this week, I bought a bag…
…and holy cow, THESE ARE THE BEST PRETZELS!
I mean, am I even a pretzel person? I don’t think so, but these are phenomenal. I legit love them. If you’ve tried any of the other flavors, please let me know. Who knew regular old “original” could be so delicious? I can’t imagine how amazing the flavored ones are.
And finally, for your September weekend…
…today, I’m sharing my APPLE ZUCCHINI BREAD 🙂 .
It’s super delicious and easy to make and tastes just like fall. Whether you need a slice to go with your morning coffee or afternoon tea, I think you’ll love it.
And starting tomorrow…
…I’m bringing back my ‘Tis the Season Saturday bonus blog posts! I hope you’ll stop by and say hi!
In the meantime, have a wonderful, wonderful Friday, friends! xx

Those shorts are sooo cute! I am excited to decorate for Fall at my house this weekend too! 🥰
Genelle Pretty says
The cinnamon sugar Dot’s are dangerous! 🙂 Glimpses of your home decor inspired me to decorate a few days ago, but I think I will take my 2 yo to Hobby Lobby while the big bros are at school on this rainy and 70° day in northeast Ohio. On the hunt for glass pumpkins to add to my aunt’s collection she gave me and I hear Aldi has some way cute fall home stuff this year too! Have a wonderful Friday, Shay!
Brandi says
The honey mustard Dot’s Pretzels are my favorite!!🤩
Alanna says
I second that! They are the best.
Kim says

Hannah Biggs says
💯!!
Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom says
YES! My daughter got the honey mustard ones at Target and I tried one and now I need to buy her another bag! Oops!
Julie Harris says
100% agree. The absolute best
Stacey says
Yum apple zucchini bread! Thank you for the inspiration😋 Praying for all of you as Andrew recovers! It’s so meaningful to watch our kids help and contribute-sometimes they need some encouragement and that is all part of growing up😉 you and Andrew have lived lives of loving others in word and deed, setting an example for them to follow♥️
Hope says
Dots are the best!
I loved all the sweaters in your sweater weather post. A few might on the way to my house😉
Does Andrew not walk much faster than you since he is so much taller? My husband complains that he can’t walk as slow as I do😕 I walk as fast as I can!
Mix and Match Mama says
Listen, I’m not sure how fast Andrew will walk next year, but due to his back, he’s only ever walked slow around me. I bet I’m sprinting to keep up with him in a year!
sandi says
I laughed at this comment… my husband is 6’5″ and I am a fun sized 5’2″. Our kids are all between 5’8″ and 6’1″ so basically I trot trying to keep up with them. We have been married for 25 years and I have certainly become a much fast walker in those years. Now I just walk fast everywhere, even when they are not with me.
Elsjebe Mostert says
My hubby is also 6’5″ and my oldest daughter is 14 and much taller than me. I love how all our travel photos have the back of their heads on them 😂
Julie says
Can’t wait to make your Apple zucchini bread! As always I’m looking forward to your annual fall home tour! Have the best weekend!
Elspeth says
So many fun fall things! Happy Friday and thanks for sharing!

I love your Saturday blog posts! Looking forward to them!

Dot’s pretzels are so good! What a great story too! Dot is the woman who started making them in her home kitchen and look what became of it!! My favorites are the Original and Honey Mustard. The Cinnamon and Sugar ones are fun for holiday gatherings. The Southwest is ok but I prefer the others and I haven’t tried the Garlic Parmesan yet. Enjoy your new found snack. Prayers continue for Andrew’s recovery. 🙏🏻
Karleigh Johnson says
The kid in me wants to just lick the seasoning off every single one of those pretzels and discard the carcass 🤣 like my 3 year old does!
Laura says
Oh my goodness we are obsessed with Dots pretzels! I also bought the mustard ones. I personally love the original the most, but my family all preferred the mustard.
Janice says
Ca’t wait to try the bread recipe!
Alicia says
Will Smith get a surprise day off of school only to find out it is “take all the Christmas bins down for mom” day?! :):)
Mix and Match Mama says
I just lol! Like legit, LAUGHED OUT LOUD!
Lisa N says
We are enjoying this break in the heat but still excited for “crisp” Fall air.
Dot’s Honey Mustard pretzels are all I’ve had – so good!
Love that you and Andrew are getting to walk together😊🍂
Kelly Sites says
GREAT book alert- The Summer of Yes by Courtney Walsh. SO FUN, so cute, so great. So funny.
Sheaffer says
Dot’s pretzels are THE BEST. I only buy them for when we go to the ranch because I would eat wayyyyyyyyyy too many on a regular basis if they were readily available. The honey mustard and the cinnamon sugar are both delicious!!!
Susan says
Not a pretzel family unless it involves nacho cheese but dots are always in stock in our pantry. The honey mustard and cinnamon sugar are just as yummy. You would love the southwest seasoned they have a little more zip than the original. The new parmesan garlic hasn’t shown up in local stores so we haven’t tried them but will for sure.
jami romano says
We LOVE dots 🙂 Original is the best, but all of the flavors “SLAP” as the kids say lol. Happy Friday 🙂
Missy says
Yay for Dots Pretzels!!! 🙂 I’m so happy they found their way from my home state of North Dakota (where they originated) to your home in Texas!! We have been loving Dots for so long up here in he Midwest!
Elizabeth says
I love Dots pretzels too! The cinnamon sugar ones are life changing!
Lara says
DOTS Pretzels has a cinnamon sugar you might like and a honey mustard.
Ann Walker says

Allison says
Yay for tis the season Saturdays!! Also… the Dot’s pretzels are up there with the collapsible wagon!! LOLOLOL! You’re the last person to try these. They are the BEST pretzels and you HAVE to try the southwest flavored ones (blue bag!) Let us know! 😉
Coco Evans says
Starting my morning reading your blog always makes my day better. I’m loving all of this fall and am so excited to have Saturdays too!
Danielle G. says
You always have the cutest clothes, comfiest home and most delicious looking plates of food. Thank you for being such an inspiration. I often find myself thinking “what would Shay do?!” Happy Weekend to you and your crew and yay for Tis the Season Saturday posts 🧡🍁
Emily says
Reading today while eating pumpkin muffins and drinking pumpkin spice coffee…I’m loving this time of year and know you are too! Happy weekend! 🎃
Alyssa Norman says
Totally agree on the Dots. My kids call them the “spicy pretzels” but gobble them up. If you shop at Costco- they have a big box of mini packs perfect for school lunches! We love them
Stewart says
Shay. You’ve never had Dots?!?! A roadtrip is not complete without them. The original flavor is the best!!
Nikki says
You have to try the Dot’s Cinnamon Sugar Pretzels!!
Amy W says
My family loves the pretzels! Honey mustard and cinnamon sugar are also delicious. Love all the fall content!
Nichole says
We are huge Dot’s pretzel fans in our house. We always grab original and the cinnamon ones are also very tasty. They capture that warm, buttery, cinnamon, toastiness you get with cinnamon toast.
Grace says
Dots are dangerously good!! I love that your Tis the Season Saturdays are coming back. We miss you on the weekends! 🙂
Kristin says
I’m so glad Andrew is able to walk with you now! But I’m also wondering how the poor guy has walked around on so many vacations! It’s funny, but we LOVE Dot’s honey mustard and (less so) Parmesan garlic pretzels, but don’t really like the originals. Can’t wait to hear what you think of the flavored varieties compared to original!
Mix and Match Mama says
Well painfully. 🙁 Of course, I wouldn’t shed any negative light on my sweet guy, but he really considered a cane in Northern Ireland (and regretted not having one). Our private tours have recently included a lot of “sitting” down time. It is amazing to see the transformation already.
Kristin says
Gosh, I’m so glad he finally had the surgery and that it is such a success so far. Go Andrew!!
BF says
My kids love Dots pretzels! They love the original flavor, but I personally like the Southwest flavor (blue bag) and Cinnamon & Sugar ones (purple bag) the best!! They are so delicious!!!
Kristin Munson says
Honey mustard Dots are my favorite! They’re not for everyone which means my husband and kids don’t eat my favorite snack!
Michelle says
I don’t know what it is about those Dot’s pretzels but they are by far better than any others out there. And if you like the regular ones, you have to try the Honey Mustard flavor! Chef’s kiss!
Heather S says
I love the original Dot’s pretzels!! The only flavor I haven’t tried is the cinnamon sugar, but I didn’t care for any of the other flavors. Original is where it’s at!!
Elizabeth Feldpausch says
ooo definetley placing a sweater order today! Its 75º in Houston right now and I am sitting on my patio 🥰
Kay says
Yay! I’m so happy to hear that you’re bringing back Saturday content for the BEST season!
A bit off topic but I wanted to thank you and (and Andrew) for the football meal tips. I live outside Boston (where football probably isn’t as big as the south) and my youngest just joined the high school football. I’m a bit clueless on all things sports. He LOVES it. But I got your meal planning tips just in time for our first week of school here, and it worked SO well. He had a big chicken/rice lunch and said he had plenty of energy for practice. So from this new football mom to you (seasoned! Mom) I just want to thank you. You made the transition to school/practice so easy for us.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mix and Match Mama says
YAY!!!! Kay, thank you for sharing! Email me anytime if you have specific questions. I am so happy to connect! 😉 mixandmatchmama@yahoo.com
Deb Murdoch says
Dot’s pretzels are a staple here in the Midwest! All of the flavors are good, but I like the Original flavor the best. I make my own flavored pretzels: pour two bags of pretzels in a big bowl (I like to use one bag of pretzels twists and one of sticks). Mix together about 2/3 of a bottle Orville Redenbacher popcorn oil with a packet of dry ranch mix and a tablespoon (or so) of lemon pepper. Pour the mixture over the pretzel mix and give it a good stir every 15 min until it is dry. Sounds weird, but so good!
Lois says
No heating in the oven? Thanks for replying.
Nicole says
Lori, I’ve made these too. No heating required. I usually make mine in a gallon ziploc bag and just turn it over every so often.
Melissa says
The Dot’s mustard flavor are delish but so addicting!
Missy says
Dot’s Pretzels are the best! Southwest will make the original taste bland, so good! We also love the cinnamon for a sweet treat!
Donna Mullen says
Love the Dot pretzels. My favorite are the cinnamon! Walmart even had a box of the small bags with their Halloween treats!
Lori says
Dots cinnamon & sugar…the best!
Mandy Stephenson says
If you (or your kids) like sweet “treats” at all try the Dot’s cinnamon sugar pretzals! They are hands down my favorite!! The rest of my family will tell you the original are the best, but I LOVE the cinnamon sugar!
Katherine says
We are decorating our house for the Fall season this weekend-can’t wait! I’m also going to check out your apple zucchini bread recipe. It sounds delicious!
Gwen says
Dot’s Pretzels are a favorite at our house too! The Garlic Parmesan and Cinnamon Sugar flavors are even better than Original!
Jessica says
Try the Dot’s cinnamon sugar pretzels. They’re pretty good too. Your girls might like them.
Leah Z says
We just discovered those pretzels too – so good!!
Wendy Crawford says
Dot’s Pretzels are AMAZING! I’ve tried all the flavors and even the cheese curls (aka Cheetos), but the original pretzels are still my favorite. Second best flavor (IMHO) are the Dot’s Cinnamon Sugar Pretzels. They aren’t overly sweet, which makes them perfect.
Heather says
Shay you MUST try the other flavors as well. The honey mustard are great, but oh my golly- the cinnamon ones are Fanfreakingtastic!!! They taste just the warm, roasted nuts you get at Christmastime, just in pretzel form. Delish!
Maria says
Honey mustard and the cinnamon pretzels are delicious as well! I think the cinnamon ones would be great with a pumpkin dip! 🎃
Allys says
We love Dot’s! Honey mustard is our favorite, but I just got the parmesan garlic based on a friends recommendation and they are so good!
Lizzie says
I must try these cinnamon sugar Dot’s. I didn’t know about that flavor! Shay, have they stopped making Quaker Oats Oatmeal Squares? I can’t find them anywhere . So delicious for a quick handful.
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t thought about Quaker Oat Squares in forever and now, I’m craving them.
Kay says
Lizzie – I haven’t been able to find them either! After Shay suggested them I bought some & loved them, but now can’t find them either!
Liz Lind says
Target in San Antonio had them again after being out of stock for months.
Megan Bowen says
Dot’s pretzels are the best. Honey mustard is very good as well.
Alissa T says
Yesssss Dots are so good! We just tried the Garlic Parmesan and they are delish. But I don’t think there’s a bad flavor in the bunch.
Jeanette says
Thank you for the reminder on the booties, I just bought both colors ☺️. Dot’s pretzels are so yummy. Looking forward to the Tis’ the Season posts!
Carolyn says
My husband and I have been on WW because of Dot’s pretzels so be careful. 😂
Lauren says
Loved the sweater haul and charming towns posts! I live in NC, and Blowing Rock and Asheville are 2 of my favorite places! And Dots are the BEST. The Honey Mustard and Cinnamon are just as good as the original. Have a happy weekend!
Andrea says
I’ve found that throwing in a stop somewhere for a treat greatly improves the kid’s motivation for those “help me out” errands!😂
Kristen says
I never heard of Dots ? I wonder if they have them here in New England.
Jill says
Dots are the best pretzels.
Leiah says
You must try the cinnamon sugar Dots- they remind me of fall 😊
Jami says
The Dots pretzels are a huge hit with my middle schooler and his cross country team. The cinnamon sugar ones are my favorite. So good.
Alexa says
I have two pairs of those boho flowy shorts, clearly I love them!
I do not care for pretzels, but I will eat Dot’s all day long! We currently have the same bag sitting on our counter. The cinnamon sugar ones are a great after dinner treat. I call them churro pretzels!
Lana says
The Dot’s pretzels…..! My friend brought them to me this year, too, and I also asked where have these been all my life!?! I like a soft pretzel, but am not likely to pickup pretzels like this…..but Dot’s are an entirely different thing all together! Amazing!
Alli says
I think you’ve been living under a rock not knowing about dots😂😂. It’s a roadtrip must have.
I promise you’ll see the light (just like with DOTS) when you listen to your first audiobook too. As much as you walk and are in the car IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Start with something Julia Whelan reads— she’s by far the best.
Robyn Beers says
Make sure you try the cinnamon and sugar DOTS pretzels. 🙂 Have a great weekend!
Kim says
Hello Shay! We are trying to decide on a frame tv. I love the way yours look. Are they all Samsung? If you have any tips on which one to buy, I would love to hear them.
Also, did you have someone install them for you so the cords don’t show? I would love a contact. We live in Frisco so not far from you.
Thanks! Kim
Mix and Match Mama says
We love ours!! We now have two. They are Samsung. I have zero complaints!!
Keisha Dawson says
Those girls know what they’re talking about! The best pretzels EVER!!! Yeah for walks with your hubby, and that he is healing! I have wished and wished for this for 23 years, and my hubby’s job recently changed, and he’s not on his feet all day anymore, so he finally doesn’t mind a walk when I ask!
Callie says
I can’t keep Dots in my house or myself and my whole family will down the bag in less than a week! The cinnamon and sugar ones are amazing, too!
StephC says
I love Dot’s pretzels as well. The cinnamon sugar ones are delish!
Melissa says
We love Dots, but I recently found out that they are made with bioengineered products. At least the original bag has the bioengineered notation at the bottom of the ingredients list.
Jan Fisher says
Dots pretzels are everything! The cinnamon sugar ones are amazing for a little sweet treat. We love the honey mustard ones too…they are great w/ cottage cheese and a tasty way to get in more protein that way!
Erika Slaughter says
OH MY GOODNESS!!! If I’d have known you weren’t eating Dot’s in your house, I’d have dropped some off for you a long time ago! I haven’t met a Dot I didn’t enjoy. 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I had no idea. THANKFULLY you fed them to the littles 😉 .
Bianca says
I love Dots pretzels!
I also now want to try that zucchini bread 🙂
MelanieL says
It has been such a fun week here! I was sick all weekend so when Tuesday came around I took one more day to rest and watched You’ve Got Mail, thanks to your cute Fall Movie graphic! It had been years since I watched it, I enjoyed my rest time so much! 🙂
Brooke says
I saw the picture you posted from when your family was leaving for China. I remember being so excited to read those posts. It is crazy to think how long I have been reading your blog and how little both your kids and mine were then.
Maria says
Have you watched The Perfect Couple on Netflix yet????? It’s better than the book in my option! After you finish the series, there’s a few articles that detail the deferences between the book and series with reasons for the changes. I enjoyed it. The house itself is not on Nantucket, but they mention many Nantucket places that we all know from Elin’s books in their dialogue. Would love for a review after you watch it.
Dawn Scheurich says
I’m finishing up getting my house decked out for fall this weekend! Also, Dots are the best—try the cinnamon sugar!
Anne says
I am curious if Andrew could lift weights before his surgery. Prayers for his speedy recovery.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! He could lift weights…he can’t now though.
Kerry says
Those pretzels are amazing. I hear that a front is coming in today. I can’t wait. Fall decorating is up to bat this weekend.
Cathy Perez says
So glad you have a walking partner with hubby, hope he’s doing well! Can’t wait to try your Apple Zucchini Bread!
Christa says
Honey mustard Dots!! They are so good! They are actually too good for me to have around my house. 😬
sandi says
I am feeling all the FOMO from this post… I’ve never heard of Dot’s and now need to find some.
Mix and Match Mama says
Go Sandi. Go now. Run! 😉
Amy McConnell says
We the people have failed you if you just found out about Dots! Original is the best flavor- we live in Texas, but have a family lake house in Minnesota close to the North Dakota border, and these started coming around to family gatherings YEARS ago from our ND family. They were always a summertime lake house treat until Dots sold and is now distributer Nationally….I freaked out when I saw them in my Houston Target a couple of years ago! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I just lol! You have failed me. You really have. 😉
Richelle says
Dots pretzels are delicious, but the ingredients are absolutely horrible (which seems to be the case with most delicious pre-packaged foods, unfortunately). White flour, vegetable oil, MSG, corn syrup…. I have them in the house but eat them as sparingly as possible!
Kim says
Yes I’m surprised how many people eat them. They are not healthy. . I’ve tried them once and yes they taste good. But never bought them again. So many other good snack choices with cleaner ingredients
Ashley says
You need to look up the story behind Dots pretzels! That’s makes it even better. Proud ND product.. now bought by a big brand but started small!
Ann T Thompson says
Get the cinnamon sugar dots! They are all good but those are my favorites!
Becca says
I’m loving all the fall! Thanks for the inspiration!
Joy says
lol! I was eating some Dots while reading your post! 😊 Glad you discovered them!!
Gracie says
Dots are the ONLY pretzels I like 😂 You MUST try the mustard ones!!! 👌🏻
Sarah says
The cinnamon sugar Dot’s are the best!
Grace says
I love your humor!– “I told him I finally got the marriage I’ve always wanted…he rolled his eyes 😉 .” I was laughing so hard when I read that! Hope you are enjoying the walks and Andrew is recovering well. Have a wonderful weekend.
JD says
Thanks to the charming fall town results, I booked Leavenworth, WA. Flying to Nashville in a week, so now I must visit Franklin as well!
Happy to hear Andrew is recovering well. I also have a husband who has put off the same surgery for many years and can’t take walks with me. Perhaps at some point Andrew can offer some tips and tricks on his surgery/recovery!
I love a skort, ordering ASAP. Thank you for the great recs. I enjoy reading daily.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!!! I hope you let us know all about it after your trip!!

Our favorite way to eat DOTS original flavor is to dip in Schuler’s bar cheese. Soooo good!
CindyG says
I just knew you would have the Netflix, The Perfect Couple” – very good

Eek! The temperatures that you have at this time of year would be classed as a summer heatwave here in the UK. lol
That’s great news that you and your husband can go on walks together.
I love your Fall decor, that big pumpkin next to your fireplace is just brilliant.
Cori says
DOTS and DIP…any kind of dip…makes for a yummy (and easy) snack to share. Or, eat all on your own, as I have been known to do. :0)

So many comments about the Dots pretzels!

Your post reminds me that my husband brought down the fall/Halloween decor so I should probably get to putting it up soon. *
Ali Patterson says
Garlic Parmesan Dot’s – so so good! I could see them on one of your charcuterie boards!
Brandi says
Not a pretzel girl, but definitely a Dot’s girl!!!! Original and cinnamon sugar are the best hands down!
Jennifer says
Shorts are so cute but I am swooning over your cute dog! What breed is she/he. Looks like the perfect size. 🐶❤️
