Happy LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL, friends!
If it’s not your last week of school, please know that I will be TERRIBLY jealous of you at the beginning of August when my kids have to return and your kids get another few weeks (I will be jealous, sweaty because of the weather and yet, burning a pumpkin scented candle…it’s who I am.).
I am interrupting today’s regularly scheduled programming because after last Wednesday’s post on MY WELLNESS ROUTINE, I had soooo many comments, DMs and emails about…
I shared in that post how I like to keep my phone on “lockdown” (silent, with DND on, apps that shut off, etc). I am the least techy person you know, so please forgive me in advance for how ignorant this next video might be, but I wanted to share my ways just in case it helped some of you.
I made a quick little video on EASY WAYS I LOCKDOWN MY PHONE…
Soooooo…is this helpful?
If you have more questions, I am MORE than happy to answer them in the comment section!
If you missed WEDNESDAY’S POST, make sure you go back and check that one out.
I love that I’m not the only one trying to reduce the “noise” from my phone.
Also, my iPhone case is only $6 today (my popsocket is HERE!).
Happy Monday! xx

This was super helpful ◡̈ thanks momma!

I agree…It stresses me out if my phone starts dinging with texts/calls, so I also leave mine on silent. My watch vibrates, so I feel it, but I don’t hear it. It’s just a little more calm to me. The only thing about this though, is sometimes I do forget to respond. I’m busy during the day, and when I actually stop, I sometimes forget. Not intentionally. If a coworker’s phone dings, I don’t know why, but this raises my blood pressure for them. Turn it on silent, people. I cannot stand a group text that just repeatedly goes off. That can send me over the edge. I’m glad I’m not alone. haha!

Being a hostage in a group text is maddening 😉 .

I silenced a group chat just today!
Beth says
Completely agree.

Such great ideas!! I unplugged over the weekend- aka- left my phone at home while at baseball tourney. It was so nice. Being totally present!
Today- my blog post goes super well with yours!! It’s titled the grass isn’t greener- it’s filtered! I offer simple ways to use social media to inspire and add to your life vs. drain you.

This is so good, Shay! My daughter and I were just talking about more and more people getting “dumb phones,” but then you lose helpful features like GPS and facetime. I actually remove facebook and instagram from my phone quite often and then just re-install them at the end of the day if I want to. That helps, too. 🙂

I love this! I’m in a terrible habit of picking up my phone during any idle time and yes, it stresses me out. Going to turn off all notifications now.
Lauren Gingerich says
Thank you for this! My phone has started to become a big distraction lately. Updating my settings now!
Nicole says
Love this!! Love your phone case and pop socket too! Can you share? Thanks!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Of course! I can add that right now 🙂 .
Kathy says

I love all these tips!!! Thank you for sharing! Unrelared topic, but what is your nail color? It’s such a beautiful pink 🩷
Mix and Match Mama says
I wish I knew! I go to my nail salon and select a “dip” color out of their book. It’s all numbered, so I don’t know a color.

My phone is on silent 99.8% of the time as well. I’m like you, I just can’t stand the “noise”. I also have all of my notifications “off”. Technology is wonderful in that you can still keep it calm. Happy Monday! Have a great week!
Dn says
Shay! Unrelated question but have you seen forward helix piercings? Feel like it would look good above your tragus ring! You’ve gotten me addicted!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s super cute! I think I’m done with my 11 🙂 .

This is so helpful. I’m often on silent. But don’t use do not disturb often enough. I also try to keep my phone in gray scale. It makes it not as attractive. I’ve done things like take shopping apps off. I’ve also considered getting a dumb phone. Would you want to share how you help your teens? We keep trying new things.
To go to grayscale: Settings. Accessibility. Display & Text Size. Color Filters to grayscale.

Another way is to hit the power button three times in a row!
Lori M says
Great info, but I was focused on how great your arms and shoulders look. What are your go to exercises to tone those areas?
Mix and Match Mama says
Ha! Well, thank you! I do a variety of strength training exercises (many are on my blog!), but for me, the key is to lift heavy and not light.
Lori says
So helpful! I am going to get rid of some of my apps now.
Lauren Palmer says
Such a good video! Thank you!
Casey says
Great info! Can you share how in the world to put setting for your teens on their phones such as limiting what apps they can have, screen time limits etc? Or do you know of a site that can help me?! Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I need Andrew’s help to write that post. There are several different things we do, but I need him to help me explain it.

The absolute BEST thing we had on our kids phones was Our Pact. (I’m not affiliated with them in any way and so this isn’t me trying to sell you on something.) It’s embedded into their phones operating system and so they can’t get clever and turn it off. We had their entire phone programmed as far as when it would turn on, when it would turn off, what apps they could access and when, etc. It was a true lifesaver! If we called them downstairs to help with a chore and they didn’t respond, no worries, we would just shut their phone off and they would come flying down the stairs. And then when we’d turn it back on, all of their apps were scrambled. I think it literally took us shutting off their phones maybe twice and they learned real quick as they hated having to put their apps back in the spots they wanted them. I can honestly say that we had no issues with our teens when it came to phone usage. It alleviated all of the fights that many parents have with their kids over technology as they knew there was a schedule and we weren’t going to budge. They grumbled about the app the first few months and then accepted it. I’d highly recommend checking it out. Good luck! I loathe technology with kids and teens as it can create so many issues.
Heather says
I would love this too!!!

Love these tips!
Also, this may be crazy but I also put my phone in airplane mode over night while its charging on my nightstand… I am just nervous about radiation. haha These phones put out a lot! so anything to help with that I am all for it.
Kara says
I have never thought to do this during the day, but I did just that, and while it’s only 10 am where I live, I’m loving the absence of all the notifications that usually distract me and cause me to get sidetracked! Staying very focused is making such a difference. Thanks for the blog on this, it is game-changing!
Marisa Patel says
I am definitely going to give this a try! Thanks for all of the good tips!
Heidi says
Group texts drive me CRAZY! It seems rude to leave the group, so I just toggle the Hide Alerts button to ON, and that keeps all those #$%% notifications from blowing up my phone. I can look at all the messages when I’m ready. 🙂

Solicitors stress me out, so I have my phone settings on to block all calls not in my Contacts. This would only work if you use your phone for personal use, not business. If the call is important, they can always leave a VM!
K.K. says
Love it!!
Erin says
My phone is ALWAYS in silent mode. I removed all social media from my phone. (I kept FB on my laptop for work reasons.) I have a Google watch, so if a really critical phone can comes through, I will know. I’ve done this for years. Much less stressful.
Julie says
Thank you Shay! This is so great- I’ve been trying so hard to cut down on mindless picking up my phone and I think this will REALLY help 😊
Mary Beth K says
Thank you Shay! This was so helpful🤩 you may think your not tech savvy but your sure did teach me some things☺️ I have heard about an app called opal that is supposed to help do similar things. I haven’t had time to dive in yet. Thought some of the other girls might want to learn too!
Gracie says
Love this!!! I have some “rules” for my phone but am definitely wanting to get better, especially as we head in to summer and I have my kids home. Thanks Shay!
Jeanette says
Very helpful! Had no idea you could bypass DND with certain callers! My watch has never mimicked my phone when it’s on silent 🤷♀️.
Jade Stalford says
This was super helpful, we’ve been really making a conscious effort to have our phones away when we are with our kids, these are great tip!
