It’s a Q&A with Andrew and Shay Nantucket style!

So, way back in like April, I asked you guys if you had Q&A questions for us…and you did (thank you!), but well, we forgot to actually sit down and answer them.  I pulled them back up this week, we headed to our front porch and answered them from here.  In our sweats with me sitting on a table.  Ha!

Thank you so much for SO MANY great questions!  We could have answered them all night.  You ladies are the best!

    Great video! Thanks for sharing! Front porches with rocking chairs and sweatshirts in June is my kind of perfection! I’m sorry, but I couldn’t understand what book you said to read, “Die..?” I’m sure it’s a book you’ve mentioned before, but can’t remember. Thanks!

    Shay, your Q&A’s are always enjoyable! We are so glad to hear, Andrew, that your back recovery has gone well. It sounds the Nantucket summer for your family is off to a great start. What a special season for all of you! Enjoy the memory-making moments. As a teacher, my summer starts tomorrow!!! 🙌🏻☀️😊 🏖️🙌🏻 Can you sense my excitement all the way in Nantucket?!?! I am heading back to Africa this summer for a mission trip. Last summer was to Kenya. This July 19th-30th will be in Uganda and it will be with Sports Outreach Ministry again. One of our layover stops will be in Qatar…which made your bucket list the other day! I’m not sure I will see anything but the airport, but stay tuned. Prayers appreciated!

    Shay-this made my WEEK! I have had such a stressful work week (real estate over here) and this morning, I just needed to reset and recharge. I poured coffee and watched your video and I feel like I just met friends for breakfast! You guys are so fun and relaxed and lovely together. I LOVE your q+a. And because my kids are the same age, I was LOL about driving lessons.

    Thank you so much for sharing this with us all. You brought so much joy into my morning! My family of five and two dogs are headed to Nantucket mid July and we can’t wait.

      Haha! I’ve found the parenting really begins with teens/college students. So you are just getting started! The good news is that it never gets old.

    Love it! What did you guys make for dinner this night? And while on Nantucket, do you typically have a drink most days? You guys are GOALS! 🥰

      You are two sweet. We are not goals, we are a hot mess, but thank YOU for following along! On this night we were going to grill fish, but it was chilly out, so we made chili. I would say that at most dinners out over the summer, we’ll have a cocktail to complement our fare.

    Love this, how fun!! I meant to comment yesterday on your bucket list post and then got distracted and forgot to! But I wanted to tell you to move Japan (Tokyo) and Singapore to the top of your list!! We LOVED Tokyo, you can spend so much time there, it’s so big. You can also take the train to Kyoto for a night or two which is super fun. We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental in Tokyo and it was amazing, also the place my husband proposed 🙂 Singapore is also amazing! I’m sure you know this but we weren’t prepared for how HOT and HUMID it is. We went in May so I’m not sure if there is a better time to go but maybe look into that because it did get a little much at times. We would pretty much wear workout clothes all day because you would just go outside and start sweating. It’s smaller so you only need maybe 3 nights there. We stayed at the Four Seasons and it was great. I’m not sure if I would stay at Marina Bay Sands, it’s a lot. We preferred just visiting there. But for Tokyo and Singapore, try to fly Singapore airlines business class, it will change your life 🙂 We had to fly to San Fran or LAX and then fly from there to fly on singapore airlines but it pus our domestic airline business classes to shame. it was truly amazing! we didn’t want the flight to end, haha!! Also really want to go to UAE but haven’t made it there yet. Happy Thursday!!

      Right now, I am typically breaking my fast earlier once a week for breakfast with Smith and then maybe another time if I’m having a moment with another kiddo. I’m trying not to be too structured. I want these moments and memories!

    Well that was just lovely! Felt like I was front porch sittin’ right along with you! Tell Andrew not to worry too much about the tears falling when K graduates! I thought for sure I’d be a bawling fool when our daughter graduated a couple weeks ago but honestly her excitement and our pride made it hard to be too sad. I woke up feeling like it was Christmas morning on graduation day!! Now… check on me come August when we drop her off at college. 😭

    Side note- my husband clapped for all of the 300 graduates. I told my daughter… marry a man who claps for Every. Single. Graduate.

    I’ve been wondering how Andrew felt about your brown hair. I love that he prefers it! I’ve been going blonde for so long that I don’t even know what my natural color is….but I’m afraid it’s just gray. Ha! Do you have any gray, and are you doing anything at all to the color now?

      I’m sure I have gray! I color it so frequently though that I don’t see any. I can’t imagine me not having some? I don’t know?!

    Shay – thank you for the video! So good! When you guys travel, how do you handle work being business owners? I am always trying to figure out the balance and stay present when I travel, but also, I usually have to work some and deal with things that come up (real estate brokerage). Wondered if you have a routine for work when you travel or you handle? Thanks for sharing your sweet family!

      When we go on vacation, we really try to unplug and take actual vacation days. We check our email daily, communicate with our team members/clients as needed, etc, but for the most part, when we go on vacation (or our team), we encourage unplugging.

    I loved this! Thank you so much! My daughter is an enneagram 8, so I have learned so much from you on what its like to be an 8. I know between you and your husband you are very direct when confronting an issue, but I was wondering if you change your approach when talking with other friends and family who may take the directness in a different way? I am an ennegram 2, so way more sensistive generally, is this something that I will hopefully grow into being less sensisitive, or do you have any thoughts on ways to kind of bringe that gap between different personality styles who appreciate the direct approach to varying degrees 🙂

      YES!! This is why I personally love learning about the Enneagram so much. It has drastically changed how I communicate with other people. I know all of my team members’ numbers and my family…and I try really hard to love them according to their motivations and not through my own lens.

    Love your take on college! Our rule with our three was “not so far that it made it hard to come home for holidays (money for airline tickets was tight) but too far to pop home to do laundry on the weekend”. 😂
