Happy Wednesday, friends!
Today, I thought we’d do a little SUMMER WELLNESS CHECK since we are approaching mid-July.
About six weeks ago, I shared my SUMMER SELF-CARE where we all shared our goals for this season, so today, I just thought I’d check in and see how it’s going.

I don’t think we should beat ourselves up if it’s not going as planned, but it was nice for me to go back and just remind myself of some of my goals.
Here were my goals for this summer and how I’m doing thus far:
1: 30 FOR 30
I don’t know about you, but I LOVED…

…our WALK EVERY DAY IN MAY and our…

…30 FOR 30 IN JUNE. Truly, both of these kept me not just accountable but excited to get my 30 minutes of activity in each day. I promise to bring something similar back this fall and holiday season too 🙂 .
2: AN EXTRA FIVE MINUTES OF SPRINT WORK EACH DAY
I have not been consistent with this one. Most days, I forget, but this is an area I want to work on, so I’m glad I’m reminding myself mid-season.
3: CONSISTENT SLEEP ROUTINE
So far, so good. Now that I’ve been going to sleep earlier, it’s hard to stay up because I LOVE getting the extra sleep. I have gotten into a bad habit this summer though of setting my alarm for a time and then hitting snooze because I’ve set it too early. That is probably NOT a good habit. I need to really think about what time my alarm should be set BEFORE I go to sleep so that I’m not snoozing until the “right” time.
4: BE FUN!
I would like to think that I’ve been more fun than normal with my family…but Mades would quickly remind me that I still haven’t gone all the way under in the ocean yet. I’ll get in on *most* days but that Atlantic Ocean is chilly, so I haven’t gotten allllll the way in. At what age did the cold ocean water start to bother me? I used to be just like my kids and hubby and dive right on in but now, I get too chilled. Anyone else? When did this happen?
5: EAT A VARIETY
My plan this summer was to eat fish every day (along with a variety of fruits and veggies), and I think I’m accomplishing that!
7: TAKE THINGS OFF MY TO-DO LIST
I’m still a work in progress.
8: WATER, WATER, WATER
I’m trying, trying, trying. I always start off the day really strong, but then I forget and don’t drink as much by mid-day.
9: SAY YES
Other than submerging myself in the Atlantic, I feel like I’m doing okay with being a “yes mom”.

If you made a list too with me back in June, how’s it going?
I find this time of year much much easier to get outside and get active and be the fun/say yes mom (things I should carry with me during the school year), but I find this time of year more challenging when it comes to consistency since we don’t have the same type of concrete schedule we do the rest of the year (I would NEVER hit snooze on a school day).

I would love to hear how it’s going for you!
Comment and let me know your thoughts 🙂 .
Today, I’m also sharing a list of THINGS I’VE CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT too! Make sure you also check out that post.
Have the best Wellness Wednesday! xx

I love the mid season check in! I have been doing great with walking a mile every day and getting outdoors. My sleep schedule has been taking a back seat since I’ve been saying yes to more fun, but i think that’s a good trade off! Thanks for the accountability!

I’ve been eating lots of locally grow fruits and vegetables this summer. I love peaches, blackberries and corn.
Emilee says
I’m a teacher so I always try to find more time for self care in the summer. I’ve definitely been successful at that!
Kristy says
Well, I cant seem to stay well! These summer colds are knocking me down. I just got over my 2nd one so I am trying to get back into the exercise routine. It’s so hard to build back up after being down a few weeks. Thankfully, it is so much easier to be active in summer!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh no, I’m sorry! I hate that for you. xx

I walked every day in May (thanks for that) and haven’t stopped. So far, I’ve not missed a single day of moving my body since May. I either walk outside on my favorite trail, walk on my walking pad, or ride my Peloton. I feel so so good, and it’s a habit I never want to break. I’ve also falling in love with a sweet kale salad mix and eat it daily. 🙂 I stink at sleep, but still working hard on it.
Bethany says
That’s awesome!

I noticed I was walking less since I’ve been doing the elliptical at the gym. I recently made the commitment to myself that if I talk to someone on the phone, I’m going to try to jump up and walk and talk. I’m already feeling better! It does help that the weather has been gorgeous lately though. 🙂
And I’ve been doing more fish, too! Just learn from me. I looked up how to make it tastier and let it sit in salt, but then forgot to wash it off well. It was like eating a salt lick! hahahahaha
Mix and Match Mama says
Just this morning, I talked to Sheaffer on the phone for over 30 minutes while I walked. It was the PERFECT way to start my day!
Kristin says
We are still walking, and I have increased my weights, so that feels great. Nourish Move Love’s Overload 30 program this summer has been amazing. I think I need to try to do it every couple of months to continue to push myself.
Rae says
I have loved the May and June active challenges. . .it encourages me to move on days I would otherwise not. PLEASE keep those going!
Lori R says
I have been walking every day but I am still working on drinking more water.
Tracey says
I have also turned to fish and I love it. My weighted vest is now part of my daily walk routine and it has made a big difference overall.
Beverly says
I have tried to walk every day for 25 minutes and now box 4 nights a week in a one hour class. I have lost 47 lbs. I have added small weights and just ordered the Zelus weight vest where I can build the weights between 4 & 9 lbs. Which is perfect as I now weigh between 89 & 95 lbs a sweet spot for my 4″10″ frame. Oh, and I am 72 and never played a sport but did run a bit during the Jim Fixx jogging crazy in 75.
Natasha says
I really loved both “Walk every day in May” and “30 for 30” for June. Please do more of these challenges — November and February would be good months, in my opinion 🙂 They just don’t hold a lot of excitement for me (I’m Canadian so we don’t have Thanksgiving in November).
Also, since you wrote about biking more on Nantucket, my husband and I got our bikes fixed up and we’ve been biking about once a week as a family. I especially love it as a way to connect with my teenage son who doesn’t love to walk, like I do. We bike to appointments and out for supper and I’ve been LOVING it. So thank you for inspiring us.
Erin says
I love your list! I need to make a similar one.
Deb says
I did the 30 for 30 every day in June, even days I was busy or the weather was not so great. Thanks for the inspiration and the accountability.
Laci Uhrbom says
I loved the May & June challenges!
Debbie Dehrer says
I’ve been hitting the gym with my teenagers. We have a gym that offers free memberships to teens during the summer, so we are trying to make it there 3 or 4 times a week. I’m also loving all the summer fruits and trying to get a variety of them.
Alyssa Norman says
I’m FINALLY getting back into a workout routine ( my youngest turned 2 a few weeks ago). My neighbor (good friend) and I had babies the same day ( in the same hospital 2 doors down from each other, SO crazy) and we finally decided enough with the excuses. We both have 4 kids and have used every excuse in the book but decided we want to set a good example for our kids and finally feel really good again. We text each other every day to encourage and hold each other accountable and it’s been so great so far! It’s such a blessing just knowing that you aren’t alone and that you can do it too! (Hey, if y’all have 4 kids and can stay fit, so can I!)
Alyssa J says
I need to break the snooze habit! Going to try the 5-4-3-2-1 Mel Robbins method and see if that works. But I’d welcome any tips that work for you!
Lindsey says
Love the check-in! In Virginia Beach, we have only had 3 1/2 weeks of summer so far, but I keep telling myself it will be over before I know it. When do your kids start back? Soccer training for the kids, XC conditioning, camps, etc…it’s so choppy and every week looks different, but I’m *trying to prioritize self care and being a yes/fun mom. I love that my teenagers want to do things with me still! I need to do better on the sleep for sure. Shoulder surgery recovery is no joke but I’m able to do a lot of walking! Question: what does your sprint work look like?
Mix and Match Mama says
Just five minutes at the end of the workout of full on, out of breath activity (like legit sprints!).
Lindsey Buck says
Gotcha. I’m not clear to run yet, but I do try to do 2-3 Peloton rides and get my sprints in then. 🙂
Erinn says
I am wondering if you going to bed early means going to bed before your older children even get home? I struggle to go to bed early because mine are out late and sometimes up for a chat when they get home but would like to do better going to be earlier.
Mix and Match Mama says
It depends…on most nights, they’re already home, so it’s not an issue. On occasions when they’re not, usually Andrew stays up…but sometimes I do too!
Christa Liso says
I am also working on being a more “fun” mom and it has been a challenge. My kids are little (6, 3 & 2) and our days are challenging to say the least. I have been encouraged by the reminder to embrace every day with my babies. These truly are the “good ole days”, with more on the horizon.
Heather S says
I’ve been utilizing my vibrational plate daily and golfing more. The extra little vitamin d I’ve been getting is had really improved my mood this summer.
MICHELLE OKERLUND says
Loving my wellness journey! I’m down 31 pounds!!! Thank you Shay for the tools, ideas and encouragement.
Rebecca says
I can’t believe summer is half over, still haven’t done half the things on my list.
Pat says
Do the hard things first!! If that is out of the way, then you can enjoy the rest of the day.
Mary says
You are so encouraging! I’ve been walking with my family more than normal and just love our time together.
Kim says
I told myself I would start to exercise each morning starting on Monday and I’ve done it the past 3 days! I like starting my morning like that! I also want to get a weighted vest. Prime day may be calling!
Kara says
Atlantic is chilly but refreshing, I feel like the only way I can go in before August is to run in quick and go under. Rip off the bandaid! I have incorporated more strength training most days of the week 50/50 with walking/cardio/playing with the kids.
Tena says
I love the idea of a mid season check-in. I did the walk everyday in May challenge. While I wasn’t successful everyday it certainly made me plan more to get out. I’ve also been working on getting more sleep, which in my case means getting to bed earlier. And I have noticed what a difference that makes. Thank you for always encouraging us to be better healthier versions of ourselves.

SHAY!! I’ve got it! You need to start a StepBet challenge in the fall!! StepBet is an app. It syncs with your Apple Watch or other methods that folks use to track their steps. When someone sets up a StepBet challenge, there is a small fee to join – mine have been like $25. StepBet looks at your stats and sets goals for you. Each week you get 1 rest day, 2 power days and 4 active days. As long as you meet your steps goals each day, you stay in the fans and get most of your money back at the end of the month. If you don’t reach your goals, StepBet kicks you out and you don’t get your money back BUT the rest of the folks SPLIT yours!! I think your readers would LOVE it! I did it in June and am doing it again now in July! It’s been the best way to compete against myself BUT have the accountability of a group! Check it out! You will love it!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I am looking into this RIGHT NOW!! Thank YOU so much, Kristen!!

What kind of shoes are the little gray(?) slipon’s you have on dog walking ? There really cute ! Thanks!

Very very old and very beloved Sketcher’s Go Walks 🙂
Anita Bricker says
You have linked your walking pad, did you get lighter one (25ish lbs) or the heavier one (50ish lbs)? TY
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t know how much mine weighs but closer to 50 pounds. It’s certainly more than 20.
