Happy happy Friday, friends!
Okay, I am changing the rules just a bit today. I have TWO big posts to share, and I didn’t want our beloved BOOK CLUB to get lost in the shuffle. Even though today is the 22nd which is always when we meet for BOOK CLUB, I am going to wait and host that TOMORROW. If you read this month’s book and want to participate, come back in the morning.
Who doesn’t love a little book chat on a Saturday morning?!
In the meantime, I have TWO very fun blog posts for us to get to today.
As always, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika and wishing you the best start to your weekend.
It’s Friday, y’all! xx

Well, it arrived…

…and as you know, once the September issue of Southern Living hits my mailbox, it’s officially fall.
You can’t argue with this.
It’s like a law or something.
I’m pretty sure it’s even in the Bible.
It’s fact.
Happy Fall. 😉

You guys, if you look back over my blog, you will have see approximately 8000 photos of me wearing…

…my SKECHER’S GO-WALKS. I have shared these with you before, but I’m sharing them again because I WEAR THEM MORE THAN ANY OTHER SHOE WHEN LEAVING MY HOUSE.
Do I wear them because they’re so cute? No.
Do I wear them because I don’t have any other shoes? Of course not.
I wear them because I am lazy.
I bought my first pair at least 15 years ago and put them by my backdoor. So, when I need to walk to the mailbox, I put them on. When I go to my garden, I put them on. When I run my kids to school/a practice/speech therapy, I put them on. When I walk my dogs, I put them on. When I run to a neighbor’s house, I put them on. When I need to pop into the post office, Starbucks, the grocery store…I PUT THEM ON.
They are so comfortable, easy to walk in, and I don’t have to bend over and/or tie anything. I am lazy and put these shoes on. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
When they get dirty, I toss them in my washing machine and then let them air dry.
When I was putting together my WORKOUTS IN A WEEK reel I saw them in several of the videos and was curious to how old my pair was, so I checked on Amazon and they were over 5 years old. Guess what I did to treat myself?
I…

…bought a brand new pair 🙂 .
Did I get rid of the older pair? Heavens no! Now, I have a pair by the backdoor and a pair by the front door so that I can really emphasize my laziness.

If you need a pair of shoes to wear for alllll things (they are great for traveling too!). I highly highly recommend my beloved Skechers 🙂 .

Speaking of shoes…

…I bought new sneakers last week for fall. Aren’t they so cute?!

THESE SNEAKERS come in several different color options. I bought them in “brown multi-suede”, but there are several other color options.

I wore THESE SNEAKERS twice this week with my everyday outfits and instantly felt a bit more ready for pumpkin season. I did size up by half a size (from an 8 to an 8.5). I thought they ran a bit small. I very much look forward to wearing them all season long 🙂 .
Speaking of gearing up for fall…

My PHONE CASE and POPSOCKET arrived this week too! I’m going to wait until September 1st to use them, but I get asked all the time where I get my fun popsockets and phone cases, and it’s always Amazon. I switch them out so often because they’re super affordable and actually affective. I drop my phone constantly and haven’t ever had one crack.
I bought this same combo last year…

…because it just speaks to my fall-loving heart the most.

This week…

…Mades started school on Tuesday which meant that Monday was her last day of summer break. We celebrated with a little trip to Sephora and lunch at…

…Velvet Taco. Our friends Ms. Sheaffer and Ms. Nikki had been telling us that we would LOVE it, so we went. Spoiler alert, they were right. Madeley and I were in taco heaven!

Andrew and I went to dinner with the Slaughters last weekend…

…and my FAUX-LEATHER SHORTS gave “transitioning from one season to the next” vibes without making me sweaty 😉 .

Calling all football fans, if you’re not watching…

…this on Netflix right now, stop reading my blog and head there STAT!
I have so much to say about this show.
First, we are watching it as a family which is super fun because honestly, how often do Andrew and I want to watch the same thing as all four kids (and vice versa!)?! Is the language a little foul? Yes. This isn’t Disney, so just know these men do occasionally use words we don’t love…BUT…my family has LOVED revisiting the story of when Arkansas man Jerry Jones rolled into Dallas and bought himself the Dallas Cowboys…and all that ensued.
I grew up during this time period in the very city (Irving, TX) where this all took place. Jerry Jones buying the Cowboys and firing Tom Landry back in 1989 is TO THIS DAY why my dad doesn’t like the Cowboys. It was personal to the people of the Dallas area, and the look back at the who/what/when/why of it all has been a little trip down memory lane for me.
It has been such a fun week watching an episode each night. I think any sports fan would enjoy how this is put together. It’s the perfect “get ready for football season” kind of show. Bonus, there are SO MANY cameos from famous people. That makes it extra extra entertaining.
Two big thumbs up from me. (Side note, I doubt my dad will watch. Ha!)

And FINALLY…

This blog post right here is one of my most popular posts of the ENTIRE YEAR! It’s my annual BACK TO SCHOOL SLOW COOKER SUPPERS!
I don’t know about you…but on busy school nights, my slow cooker saves me. My slow cooker makes me feel like a super hero…like SuperMom. You are right about the Go Walks! I’m on my 3rd pair and I love them.
Sheaffer says
That brisket bowl is DELISH, we’re watching America’s Team too (LOVE it!), and now I need some slip-on shoes to leave by the door.
Meghan says
I love your love for fall and all holidays! It helps get our family so excited for the end of year! And I just printed half of your recipes- they are going to save us on soccer nights- thank youuuu! Hope you have a great weekend!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!! Thank YOU for making my recipes for your family! xx

I was on the fence about watching the Cowboys show but you have convinced me. Need your advice, do you think wearing a black fake leather midi dress to a wedding in Oct is appropriate? I have tried on so many dresses and just have not fallen in love with any of them HA!
Mix and Match Mama says
You need to watch it! It’s really entertaining (and informative!). I think the dress depends on the location, venue and weather.

My children are grown and out of my nest but when we were in the busy school season, the crock pot was a lifesaver! It also made me feel accomplished that I could put a hearty, mostly healthy, tasty meal on the table with less effort.

Shay, I bought my first pair of Skechers Go Walks 8 years ago thanks to you. I was pregnant with my son, and my feet were too swollen to fit into any other shoes. Not to mention, my belly was too big for me to bend over and tie anything. I’ve been wearing them ever since then just because I don’t want to mess with any shoe strings 😅 I don’t wear them out and about, but I wear them at home all the time. My daughter now refers to them as my “gardening shoes” because they’re what I slip on anytime I go outside.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay! Aren’t they just the best?! I legit just wore them to the grocery store. I can’t quit ’em!
Kara says
I have had sketcher’s go walks for SO long!! I bought them when I started working at the hospital pharmacy 12 years ago and they were great! I do have to say-my feet do NOT stink ever but they sure stink in those shoes (even washing them frequently) lol… my husband says I can have them as long as they stay in on the garage shelf and do not come inside 🙂 haha!
Erika Slaughter says
That brisket bowl at Velvet Taco is GOOD, right?? And whatever that little tortilla/cheesy concoction is chef’s kiss!
Tricia says
Where is your black shirt from you are wearing with the faux leather shorts? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s a Veronica Beard tank!
Laci says
Just finished the Netflix series any given Saturday…so I will now binge this!
Mix and Match Mama says
Wasn’t that one so good too?!
Addison Edwards says
What shirt is that with the sketchers? I see that it’s Free People, but which one?! It looks so cute.
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s Kensington’, ha! It was in my clean laundry basket, and I put it on. It’s long sleeve, but I’m not sure the style.
Yolanda McLean says
I’ve been counting down the days until Book Club – so excited to read tomorrow! Spoiler – I love this book.
I may have to get some Skechers!
Tina says
off to order that pop socket right now! Love! Question…would you consider a post talking about the shows that you have watched as a family? We’ve got two teens (15- boy, 17- girl) at home still…our son would probably like to watch something with us but the other…well it would have to be pretty entertaining for her to want to hang out with us.
Mix and Match Mama says
Of course! We watch a lot of The Office reruns as a family right now.
Judy says
My mom never forgave Jerry for firing Tom either! We loved to tease her about it!
Suzanne D says
I am on episode six of America’s Team. We were huge cowboy fans back in the 90s due to them being my brother’s favorite team. It’s fun to go back and relive memories from that part of my life. It is also so interesting to me!
Karen in Virginia says
Shay…I have that EXACT pair of Skechers. Same color. Love them. Wear them every day. I also need a new pair. Are the new ones exactly the same? How do you like them? Thanks!
Kacy M says
Not a Cowboys fan but don’t get me started on Jerry Jones…poor Cowboys fans

I didn’t have a chance to read the blog yesterday but glad I didn’t forget! So much goodness!
I need to buy that issue of SL. My oldest graduated from Carolina in Chapel Hill and my youngest is there now.
I LOVE my go walk shoes! I have owned many pairs over the years and have several now!
And I love those new fall shoes! I love a cute Fall “snesker”!!
It’s always sad to see summer end but I am so excited for Fall!
Christie says
Could you share more about your necklace you’re wearing in your pictures with Mades?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s from Love Shack on Nantucket 🙂 .
Debbie says
What shoes are you wearing in the pic with the faux leather shorts? And where did you get them? LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re YSL! They’re oldies but goodies from Nordstrom.
Jennifer Moss says
I have kept a pair of Skechers by the front door for years. There came a point where every time I asked my kids to walk the dog they would say “My shoes are upstairs”. I was so sick of hearing this that one Christmas I bought them each a pair of slip on skecher style shoes that HAD to stay in the front closet. Time to walk the dog? Everyone has shoes! Trash needs to go to the curb? Everyone has shoes! Because of this these became known as “dog shoes” at our house. My oldest is 24 and just moved into a house with some new roommates. He said out loud that he couldn’t find his “dog shoes”. The new roommate said, “Dude, we don’t have a dog”. My son was cracking up – he said every time he gets a new roommate he forgets that he has to explain about dog shoes all over again.

I named my first child Landry after seeing Tom Landry inducted into the Cowboys Ring of Honor. The story goes that Mr. Jones asked Coach Landry to be inducted to the Ring. Due to the poor treatment he had received when he was fired, Coach Landry declined – multiple times. Then, some of his players starting declining their invitations to the Ring of Honor, so as the story goes, Coach Landry reached out to the Jones Family and said, “Ask again. I won’t have my players missing the recognition they deserve.” Jerry Jones went on and on in front of a sold-out stadium (the old one near your home!) about how wonderful Coach Landry was. The crowd started chanting in unison – WHY DID YOU FIRE HIM – over and over. Coach Landry stepped to the microphone and could have really gotten his revenge, but he was the most gracious and kind man you have ever seen. He thanked the Jones Family for the honor and the chance to stand with his players and be inducted into something that they so richly deserved. The entire stadium was stunned to silence. It was a couple of years before I had children, but I decided then and there, that my first born would be named Landry – boy or girl! Landry Ruth Walker arrived in September of 1996! Her dad later attended the funeral of Coach Landry to pay our respects. Coach Landry was a tremendous human, and I still believe Jerry Jones missed a golden opportunity to create a dynasty that would still be winning…but alas…
