Well holy cow, you guys were passionate yesterday! Agh! My phone was blowing up with calls and texts from friends and family either agreeing with me passionately or strongly disagreeing with me. Ironically, it’s election day here in the US, and I swear to you, I think the people in my life care much less about who I voted for than why I do/don’t like turkey and dressing. I was laughing so hard at them and at your responses too.
WHO KNEW THIS TOPIC WOULD BE SO POLARZING?!
Bahahahahaha!
In keeping with the Thanksgiving theme here this week, today, I am sharing different outfits you might want to wear for your family’s Thanksgiving lunch or dinner. Side note, there’s a whole other argument right there. When do you eat the big meal? My family always eats a late lunch for Thanksgiving…which is not my favorite. I would prefer a Thanksgiving dinner, but we do late lunch. What do you do? I’m super curious now. Please tell me.
A-N-Y-W-A-Y, back to today’s post…I have had several requests for outfit ideas/looks for what to wear to your family’s Thanksgiving meal. We keep things super casual in our family and jeans and a sweater pretty much always work, but I created some specifics for you in case you need a new idea. I have some collages, some actual outfit photos, stretchy pants and a few bonus Christmas ideas too. It’s all here in today’s post.
I went through my closet and pulled some of my favorite pieces together and created a few collages for those of you who like the visual (and then I have actual photos below too).

This chenille sweater is SO COMFY!!!! I bought it in black, but it does come in other colors too.
This sweater just says pumpkin pie 🙂 . It does come in other colors, but I love it in caramel.
This sweater is super soft and goes perfectly with my favorite booties too!
Look at this sweater here from Target?! This one is only $25!! It comes in 12 different colors, but this brown shade made me think of Thanksgiving 🙂 .
This super soft sweater is an Old Navy find! It came in other colors, but you all know how I feel about green.
My ruffle sweater is so soft and comes in so many other colors.
Now, if your family is a little more formal on Thanksgiving or you just want to wear a dress, look at this cute dress that I wore to church on Sunday…
…it was cute, warm, soft and would be adorable for Thanksgiving. My boots are several years old.
Now, if you’re already thinking about Christmas, I have you covered. Just look…
…how festive and fun is this sweater?! It is so soft too with zero itch!
Annnnd…
…look at my cute tartan flannel top!! Isn’t it so festive?! I LOVE that it’s flannel too!! It works with my jeans but then also with…
…my velvet skirt and booties 🙂 .
One final thing before we wrap up this Tuesday…
CHATEAU PARKA//QUILTED COCOON PUFFER//TEDDY SHERPA//COCOON COAT
…my favorite J. Crew coats are all around 50% off today! I’m wearing xs in every coat as they fit TTS. Each one comes in other colors too!
Now, it’s Tuesday which means…
…it’s an all new episode of THE BESTIE BREAKDOWN!
Today, we’re HAVING A BESTIE CHAT!
From what I worry about to what we’re getting our kids for Christmas this year, wrapping gifts, pop culture and so much more, it’s an hour of us chatting per your suggestion. So many of you loved our BRAVO episode and asked for more “chatting”, so that’s what we’re doing today. It’s a whole lot of bestie chattin’. You can listen to today’s episode HERE or on your favorite podcast platform (Apple, Spotify, etc).
I hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday (which, by the way, is a big topic in today’s podcast episode…do we like Tuesdays or is it our least favorite day of the week?!). I’ll see you back here tomorrow for Let’s Look! xx

You are set for Thanksgiving AND for Christmas!

Melissa says
Hi Shay, what color is your ruffle sweater? Thanks.
Mix and Match Mama says
Mine is in brown camel!
Sheaffer says
Sooooooooo many great outfit ideas!!! I think that tartan flannel from J Crew just might be my favorite! SO CUTE!!!
Jodie Kingsbury says
I despise Turkey and stuffing too. We eat at noon because my father-in-law is a farmer, and most farmers eat at 6-12-6.
Love reading your blog and listening to the podcasts.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank YOU!!!!!!
Melissa says
Farmers around here normally have their final meal at 8 or 9, whenever their chores are done! But we also eat thanksgiving dinner at noon.
Amy says
LOVE these outfit ideas!! All are super cute! The J Crew plaid shirt and velvet skirt is adorable and so versatile for so many holiday events! What sizes did you get in the shirt and skirt?
Mix and Match Mama says
I bought them both in a size 2! I would say the skirt is a titch big, so if you’re in-between, maybe size down.
Katie Compton says
We eat about 4pm. So more of an early dinner. That way we have some time for food to digest, maybe get a walk in, before we hit up dessert!
BF says
My family also eats Thanksgiving earlier than I would like. I would like it more like 4:00 or 5:00, but we do 2:00 every year.
Kristin says
Oh Shay, sorry, but we eat lightly and then have a late lunch on Thanksgiving, or sometimes a normal noon lunch. But no later than 1. Two reasons: we aren’t too full from earlier meals to eat our delicious Thanksgiving meal and then we get to have leftovers later in the day!! And my leftovers are usually just the carbs…mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, and a roll! Plus, eating early lets me get my turkey stock made so I don’t have to face the carcass the following day, and can do something fun with my family instead. I think you should keep this fight going and ask who serves appetizers on Thanksgiving and who doesn’t. I can’t believe people serve apps when there is already so much food and so much work going into the meal.
Melissa says
Our area of the country (MN/ND) pretty much all eats at noon. We still celebrate with extended families so there is normally about 50 at Thanksgiving dinner, and we eat early as some have a 3 hour drive home after!
Keisha Dawson says
So many cute options! I was just telling my husband last night that I couldn’t believe I didn’t have a black sweater in my closet. That is now fixed. Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
The chenille one is AMAZING!!!! You’ll love it!
Lisa Elliott says
I just ordered the cute top — instead of yellow, I ordered the red. Also, our family eats Thanksgiving dinner . . .the main reason is because my mother-in-law (now 97 years old!) wants to light the candles on the table. Seriously! Cornbread dressing (not stuffing) is one of my all time favorite foods but I could do without the turkey! 🙂
sandi says
We eat around 1:00 so we can have turkey sandwiches and left overs later for dinner. The plaid J Crew shirt is adorable!
Also, one of our daughters turned 18 in June and voted for the first time today. All of the poll workers clapped and cheered when they realized she was a first time voter. Her early college class was canceled and if she took a selfie outside of the voting site with her “I Voted” sticker she received 20 extra points. She drove 45 minutes home to vote and then 45 minutes back to campus to earn her 20 points (which she didn’t need but you never know how the class final will go).
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwww! That’s amazing! I still remember the first time I voted. I love how your sweet poll workers cheered for her. That’s faublous!
Allena says
I will be on the beach in Hawaii at a luau, so our Thanksgiving is going to be VERY different this year. Unfortunately, I don’t think any of your outfit suggestions work for that, ha. 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
No, but have so much fun!!!
Lisa D says
That is so fun! Quite a few years my family did the same thing — a Thanksgiving luau! Definitely made for some great photos that year.
Missy says
Listenng to the Bestie Breakdown Bestie Chat and you are discussing Christmas presents, etc. Question, how do you determine gifts from Santa vs. mom and dad?
Mix and Match Mama says
We let Santa deliver the “big” item for the year plus a book, coloring book and maybe a stuffed animal. Mom and Dad do the rest. Thanks for listening!!
Laura says
Yeah, the matriarch of my family likes the 1:00 or 2:00 time…that’s really not my thing!! We all end of standing in the kitchen, hungry and smelling all the food baking! Fingers crossed we do a different time this year! lol
Bridget says
The sweater in Outfit Idea #3 is one I bought a while back when you first posted about it and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since! It’s my go-to sweater this time of year and I receive so many compliments on it. I wear it on Halloween with black leggings, a black shirt, and gold jewelry. Then, on Thanksgiving, I pair it with something beige and my stretchy pants ;).
In between, I’m sporting it at my kids’ activities, the pumpkin patch, and in my Zoom calls at work. It’s so comfy & versatile – perfect for fall in the Midwest. Thank you!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I love hearing that, Bridget!!!! Have the best day!
Tiffany says
I bought the Cole Hahn booties when you shared them in black last year. I love them! I live in Idaho, where we get lots of snow. They have great tread and my feet stay dry when walking in snow. I’m also a teacher, so on my feet all day. They are so comfy! Now I might need the brown pair! This has been my favorite MMM purchase!
Mix and Match Mama says
I love them too!!! They’re cute, they’re comfy and that little wedge heel is just the perfect height. I’m so happy you love them too!
