Happy Happy Thursday!
I know I say this often, but Thursday is always my favorite day of the week.
It’s like Friday Eve. 🙂
It’s a full THREE POST THURSDAY around here. On top of this post below, I have some DECOR DAYS SAVINGS (WITH SOME KEYS TO MAKING FALL COZY) and MUST HAVE MAPLE today too 🙂 .
Three posts + my favorite day = HAPPINESS!
Tomorrow, I have another topic for us to chat about so today, I have some Thursday Things for you (basically my Friday Faves one day early 🙂 ).
It’s a FULL little post, friends!

I am going to start with…

…you should all stop what you’re doing and listen to the true crime podcast Unicorn Girl.
Like seriously, stop reading this and start listening.
Erika told me to listen to this earlier this week, and I could not put it down. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I was listening in the car. I was listening at my desk. I was listening while I ate lunch, folding laundry, putting away dishes. If you liked the podcast Scamanda, you will love this one. (If you didn’t listen to Scamanda, then you now need to listen to TWO true crime podcasts.)

Another “thing” for your Thursday…

…on Sunday night, we hosted a birthday dinner for my mom (whose birthday was on the 12th) and Kensington (whose birthday was on the 15th).

It was such a sweet dinner celebrating two of our favorite ladies.

Lovie LOVES having her seven grandbabies together.

Papa Jay loves it too 🙂 .

That awkward moment when you’re the only one opening presents and everyone is staring at you.

Dinner, gifts, a lot of laughing and…

…cake! Mades was afraid Lovie’s feelings would be hurt that her age wasn’t on the cake too. Lovie was relieved. Ha!

It was just the sweetest night with 12 of my favorite people!

Okay, you guys, I’m going to GUSH and totally “over sell” buuuuuut…

…MY DRESS IS BACK IN STOCK. (Sneakers here!)
You know the one because I’ve had it now for several years and you ALWAYS ask me about it. I have legitimately worn this dress at least 50 times over the years and every single time, I wash it and throw it in my dryer and it looks great. It’s so soft and yet the fabric isn’t sheer or too thin. I wear it A TON on airplanes because it never looks wrinkled. It has traveled all of the world with me too. This pic above is from yesterday. I wore it to the dentist, to get my HRT bloodwork, carpooling my kids and working…it’s so comfy. I went ahead and bought a second black one yesterday too because I keep taking it to and from Nantucket, but now, I’m just going to have one in both spots.
For years…

…this has been my go-to dress!

From Spring Break trips…

…to Bali…

…I wore the striped one in Jamaica.
I love THIS DRESS. It’s available now in two other colors too. Love.
Speaking of love…

…we added a new athletics sign to our yard! Our sweet Ashby had her very first cross country meet on Monday, and when I tell you that Andrew and I cried watching our girl just DOMINATE life, we BAWLED LIKE BABIES.
You guys, she has always been and will always be my hero.
We are so proud of her!

‘Tis September 18th, so let’s chat jackets…

…my new QUILTED PUFFER arrived this week. So cute, right? It comes in so many other colors too!
I’m not currently wearing jackets, but I have jacket weather in my future, so I’m trying to locate me some good ones before I need them.
I really love…

…this CHEVRON FUNNEL NECK JACKET. So pretty, right?!

I thought the length was great and the weight too…

…it’s not lined, so it’s not bulky.
JACKET + JEANS + MULES for the win!
And one more…

…how fun is this FAUX SUEDE BUBBLE BOMBER?! I adore me a brown jacket, so I was extra excited about this one.

Make sure you check out my DECOR DAYS post today too! There are so many great deals right now including our favorite EXPANDABLE CARRY ON HARDSIDE SPINNERS!

We have LOVED these carry on size suitcases! Right now, they’re on sale!
That’s it for this Thursday! Make sure you check out both DECOR DAYS and MUST HAVE MAPLE today too.
I’ll see you back here tomorrow. Have the best best day! xx

I have so many thoughts about unicorn girl.. but what in the actual heck is wrong with (HER) but all the other people that kept working for her?! I just can’t.
Mix and Match Mama says
Listening to their stories, I’m like “count the red flags, people!”. There were so many. That podcast was a wild ride. I loved it!
Kara says
YES! SO many red flags.. yet they all found ways to justify the “why”… crazy. I loved it too!!

YAY for Ashby taking on cross country! I hope she (and your entire family), find it to be an incredible experience, just as our family did. You will find yourself cheering for every kid on that course. XC is one big extended family. You go, Ashby!

I love the versatility of that dress. Might need to order one!
Kristin Tate says
I started reading your blog in 2013, when I was working as a CSR at State Farm in the Mississippi Delta. That season of my life was one of the hardest, my husband was in active addiction, I had two small children to care for, and I was trying to walk through it all as a Christian wife. Your blog, along with Erika and Sheaffer’s, was a daily encouragement that helped me keep going.
Now, almost 13 years later, I own my own independent insurance agency, my husband is a deacon, and I still read your words and find so much encouragement in them. Thank you for continuing to show up and share your heart.
Mix and Match Mama says
Goodness, I have chills. What a testimony your sweet family has! Praise the Lord for all He’s done in your family’s lives. Goodness, that’s amazing. xx
Beth Knecht says
I love that Ashby is doing cross country!
I swear that running brings out the most supportive fans! Everyone is cheering everyone else on from the lead runner to the end. And it builds so much confidence in kids!
I just love cross country races!
Hallie says
The dress is on sale too! Just bought it. So glad the black is back in stock because I love the blue and white striped one I have. Thank you for sharing 😊
Beverly says
Where did you buy it on sale????

Hi! Could you tell me where you got K’s cake and balloons? I am local and would love to where you got them because they are both super cute! I would like to do something similar for my daughter’s upcoming birthday. Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Of course! She’s a local Lovejoy mom. Her IG is @pippopballoons 🙂
Erika Slaughter says
That podcast should be one of my FRIDAY FAVORITES too! I’ve been listening ALL WEEK!
Adri says
Can I tell you how it made me laugh in the grands photo all the boys with their socks on outside. Keeping boys socks clean and hole free is a real struggle. Ha!
Mix and Match Mama says
AMEN! Ha!
K.K. says
Well, what a fun post!! I love that Madeley was worried about your mom and her cake! So sweet. 🙂
Nicole says
What did you serve when hosting? Always love getting inspo from you! And also, please tell me – what does an aperitif look like with Andrew? I think we need this in our life too! 😂🥂
Mix and Match Mama says
We always find some place quiet to chat (often the patio), and we’ll make a little charcuterie board and a complementary drink. We’ll chat about 30 minutes or so until it’s time to make dinner for the whole family. It’s always something I enjoy. For this party, I made brisket tacos 🙂 .
Mary says
Where is Kensington’s cute shirt from?
Mix and Match Mama says
Free People 🙂
Sandi T. says
I’ve been reading your blog for about 2 years and have only commented a few times (Honestly, not sure why not more!). After reading today’s blog about you and Andrew bawling at Ashby’s XC meet I knew I had to comment today. I tear up/bawl almost everyday watching my boys (12 and 14 yo) as they grow and think about how yesterday they were babies. My husband thinks I’m nuts! Kodos to Andrew and lucky for you to share those bittersweet tears together! Wishing you and your family will continue to be blessed everyday! Thank you for sharing your world with us!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank YOU for taking the time to leave this sweet comment today. I am so blessed by readers like YOU! xx
Heather S says
Go Ashby! Maybe she’ll be a marathon runner like her Mama was one day!
Kelly Nagy says
Yay for Ashby!! XC is not for the faint of heart! Could you share Kensington outfit details? Adorable!
Mix and Match Mama says

Liz Stafford says
What size is your black dress?!?

Julie says
Love this all very much! I am in a hot place too, and just not so patiently waiting to be able to wear jackets and sweaters!!
Your meme a while back about visiting Texas in August, what is the weather like? Well, have you been cremated had me laughing SO hard!! It’s so true. 😂😂
Mix and Match Mama says
Every. Single. Time. I see that meme, I laugh out loud.
Julie says
It came at a perfect time! My Dad was in the hospital, and we were waiting for him to come out of emergency surgery. We all needed that good laugh. 😂😂
Mix and Match Mama says
I hope he’s doing well!!
Beverly says
Love your blog. I have asked before but can you please list the brand names of the items you recommend and where you purchased them. I cannot open your links as they are tied to a third party shopping and my laptop has Safesearch which blocks them. I can go direct to stores, amazon, websites. but not the the third party shop links. I would love to buy the black dress. Many thanks.
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s from Abercrombie! If you ever have any questions, please email me, Beverly! I am so so happy to help!
Faith says
Oooohhh I loved SCAMANDA so I will definitely be listening to unicorn girl tonight!!!
Karen in VA says
Shay…if you get a chance, watch SWEET BOBBY my catfish nightmare on Netflix. The ending was so unbelievable that my husband and I were speechless. It’s one of the craziest, most unbelievable stories I’ve ever heard. And you won’t believe the ending. And it’s completely true. Your mind will be blown.
Eliza says
I love in the picture with Lovie all the littles are following the bigs… all the girls are barefoot like Kensington and the boys have socks like Smith. So sweet. 💛
Maureen Reynolds says
Hi Shay, Just wondering if you could please share where you purchased the beautiful velvet pumpkins on your fireplace hearth in the lovely photo of Kensington and your Dad. Your home looks beautiful decorated for Fall!!! Many thanks,
Maureen Reynolds
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re from my local grocery store! Aren’t they so pretty? I bought them two or three years ago from this little seasonal section and my store.
Kat says
I needed a break from my regular podcasts so I jumped on Unicorn girl this morning on the drive to school (K teacher). Holy Moses in a motorboat. I’m currently at school at 6am printing away and cannot hit “pause”. I’m on Episode 2. I want to google this person but I’m not. I’m just going to hold my popcorn and enjoy the raised-eyebrow wrinkles coming my way.
Mix and Match Mama says
Once you start it, you cannot stop it. It consumed my week!
Ellen says
Cross country is the best sport in the world! Way to go, Ashby!
Unicorn Girl is soooooo good. I also really liked Scamanda.
