Happy Thursday, friends!
Today, I’m sharing my JANUARY BOOK REVIEW + I’ve sprinkled a few LITTLE VALENTINE’S TOUCHES around my house, so I thought I’d share those too 🙂 .
A few weeks ago, I stopped by my parents’ house and my mom had it decorated SO cute for Valentine’s Day. She didn’t add much, but what she added was just the right amount of red and pink to make your heart happy that Valentine’s Day was on the way.
I kept commenting on how cute everything was and before I left, she had gifted me a mug, a cup towel, a candle, a candy dish…I had a whole bag filled with things. It was like leaving a gift shop. Ha! I took my mom’s gifts and came home and pulled out a few things around my own house to add just a dash of Valentine’s to our home.
I don’t typically add anything for Valentine’s Day, but I’ve really enjoyed having it out! I told my mom that I will be back to gush over her Easter decor next in March 😉 .
Here are just a few pics around my house. Maybe you need to add a bit of red and pink to your season too?

I started with my bar cart (of course!) because it’s easy to make festive.

I pulled out these mugs that I’ve had FOR YEARS. I also bought THIS CANDLE and HEART DISH and then just added some candy.

These little candies are from Trader Joe’s…

Easy as that!
I also set out…

…these little melamine plates that I bought at Pottery Barn kids YEARS ago…

…they make me happy 🙂 .

This was the sweet little candle my mom gifted me.

Love!

I pulled out a red votive from my Christmas decor…

…popped in a battery operated tea light…

…and set it next to these Home Goods goodies.

Next, I added a pink candle…

…and some more candy…

…and called that little area done. Do my kids eat it? Yes! I’ve decided not to care. I just keep replenishing it because clearly, it’s making all of us happy.

In my kitchen, I added two festive cup towels…

…and added some of my “Christmas” spatulas back into the jar (just the solid red ones)…

My grocery store had their Christmas candles 75% off, so I bought a red one!

And finally…

…I pulled out two of my old Valentine’s Day mugs and set out one that my mama gifted me…

…added straws that I had purchased at Hobby Lobby for Christmas and…

…called it a day.

Just a few little Valentine’s Day touches have made me SO HAPPY, so I thought I’d share 🙂 .
Cheers to celebrating even the littlest things, y’all. xx

So sweet, and you can totally use that candle from your mom for a drinking glass when it’s burned out. It looks just like the ones from Anthro! xoxo

Love it! I have a bin for each holiday. Just a little something to break up the monotony for me in my house. I really don’t think my family notices, & if life is too busy, sometimes it doesn’t make it out.

I have the same Libby! Just some little touches here and there that I enjoy changing holiday-to-holiday.
Years ago I was gifted the most beautiful monogrammed glass cookie jar in my kitchen. Each season I fill that with a little something. Right now it has some pretty, sparkly red and white hearts, in March it will be filled with green clovers. Just a little touch that always makes my heart happy. Simple joys!

Shay! I just returned from a treacherous winter walk with my dog (I think I got wind burn lol?) and felt like I won the lottery with your two posts. Valentine’s Day is actually my #1 favorite holiday-always has been. I know people dislike it, but I think it’s about more than just romantic relationships! I think any excuse to tell people we love them (best friend, sister, kids, mom, dog!) is the perfect reason for a holiday. Throw in hearts and chocolates and flowers and well…I’m happy!
Anyway, thanks for reminding me to put out my Valentine’s things! And I’m sooo so excited for book review too-best day ever.

Hadn’t decorated for Valentine’s Day in years. That is until I seen you Mom’s Seen her valentine table the other day on instagram. It is so beautiful that it inspired me to put out some Valentine Day decor.
Your Valentine decor is also pretty.

One of my kids gifted me one of those Williams Sonoma heart mugs years ago for Christmas, and I still use it almost everyday. Love!

CUTE! CUTE! CUTE! Love all of the festive touches!

I love decorating for Valentine’s day! Just adding a few touches feels so much less overwhelming than what I do at Christmas. All the pink, red, and hearts just make me feel happy!

This was the second year I put out a couple of Valentine’s throw pillows & small amount of decor as soon as I put my Christmas decor away. It has made me so happy in January! Especially this week as we have been stuck at home with the ice storm!

Hi Shay, I asked you (few days ago) how many hotel rooms do you book when you travel with your entire family of 4 kids 2 adults ? You never answered me ? Tks Happy Valentien’s Day !
Mix and Match Mama says
I did answer you, Irene! If you’ll go back, you’ll see it 🙂 . We get two!

Eight + years ago my daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter moved into their much larger home and I gave her almost all of my decorations for all of the holidays. They are a crazy busy family but she manages to get all the stuff put out most years. I enjoy it when I’m there and since I get home from work much later than they do I enjoy not having the pressure to decorate for all the holidays. Win Win
I love what you have put out – it doesn’t look like Valentines Day threw up in your house – its just touches of stuff. You and your husband don’t have to stay home a whole day to decorate (Christmas) but it’s enough to notice.

Very cute little festive sprinkles throughout the house! I love a bit of Valentine decor, as it brightens up the dreary days of winter. I spied your “Year of Cozy” book and just ordered it for a Valentine gift for my teenage daughter. She loves all things baking, cozy and crafty so she’ll be pleased with this added to her Valentine haul!

Your bar cart looked so cute the other day when we came over. I totally noticed it and the little mugs. ❤️❤️❤️

I loved seeing you add the touches. I do the same just to keep it feeling festive in this ice haven of Virginia right now. Can you please send me the link of the small white book holder? I love that with the cozy book, which I read immediately. I have my favorite things party next weekend so bring on the pink and red!
Mix and Match Mama says
I wish I could, but it’s really an oldie but goodie item. Stay warm!!

Cute tea towels! Do you every buy the Geometry towels?
Mix and Match Mama says
I’ve never purchased them before!
Marla says
I love Geometry towels. They are not only festive , they are great towels and last for a long time .
As always I love your posts Shay!

Love Valentine’s everything!!
Bethany says
Where did you get those cute tea towels??
Mix and Match Mama says
Home Goods 🙂
Robin says
I am curious about you calling the kitchen towels “cup towels”. Is that a southern thing? I am in west central Missouri, and we call them tea towels.(Or maybe it is an age thing, I am in my early 60s.) I am always fascinated by the regional names people have for different things.
Mix and Match Mama says
It must be? I don’t think I even realized I did it. Totally a Texas thing for sure!
