Fifty Two Shades of Shay: Holiday Dresses


Well, Nordstrom contacted me and asked if I would like to review both their holiday dresses and party shoes this year…and I of course said, “Well, I’m getting ready to travel to another country in December to adopt a daughter, and of all years for me to need a cute dress with cute shoes…this isn’t it.”.  
And they said they didn’t care if I didn’t have a place to go…I should review them anyway, so I am :).
For a fun twist, I will be reviewing Nordstrom’s holiday dresses this week and their holiday party shoes next week…listen, just because I won’t be attending fun (and kind of fancy!) holiday parties this year and dressing all festive doesn’t mean you can’t!
Tis the season to dress a little extra sparkly, a little extra festive and a little extra fun!
So, I showed up at Nordstrom and the sweet sales associate helped me find dresses in 3 different categories…Colorful, LBD, and Festive.  I wore the same pair of shoes and the same red lipstick in Diva with all of the dresses.  I might not be going anywhere fun this year but maybe you are?  Here are some of my faves from all four categories…
I know blue usually doesn’t say Christmas, but it sure says fun, right?  This BB Dakota dress also comes in black and red and was really fun to wear!  For a size reference, I’m wearing a zero.  I liked this one because I could wear it year around…weddings, office parties and other social occasions where a fun little dress is required.

Here are a few other colorful dresses that I thought would be really cute this holiday season…

…this dress not only comes in these fun colors but black, grey and navy too.  The back of the dress is my favorite part!  There is a big zipper that runs the length of the dress.

I tried this Eliza J dress on in black and thought it was really pretty!  They didn’t have this gorgeous red one in store or else I would have tried it on too!
Here are a few other colorful holiday dresses for you too…


Mulberry Lace, Green Lace,  Boatneck Lace (in 5 colors), Strapless Dress (in 22 colors!), Purple A-Line

If colorful dresses aren’t your thing…you just can’t go wrong with a Little Black Dress.  Throw on some sparkly earrings or a statement bracelet and you’re good to go in your LBD for your festive occasion.
Remember the blue dress above?  Well, I tried it in black too…fun, right?!  Every girl needs a good LBD for her closet…it’s the ultimate wear anywhere dress.
This Felicity & Coco dress is similar to the one above but with a little less lace.  I’m wearing this dress in an XS.
And of course, here are some other fun LBD for your closet…
Tulip Hem, Maxi Dress, Mesh Drape, Fit and Flare 
Now, if you’re going for the LBD look this year, I suggest you throw on a few sparkly pieces to really give it that holiday pop!

Yay!  My favorite holiday dress category…FESTIVE!  I love any excuse to douse myself in sequins and bright red lipstick and hit the town.  I might just get me one of these dresses and sit around my house in it this year as I prepare for Ashby’s arrival…I love them that much!

I tried on this fun black and gold dress in a 2 petite.  I think it was my favorite dress of the day!  So cute and fun!  If you’re not a petite size, this brand had other very similar dresses…

Gold Dress, Metallic Jacquard Fit, Red & Black Brocade, Embellished Metallic, Black & Navy Stripe 

And I rounded out my dresses with this fabulous dress (in an XS).  I should have been a Vegas showgirl…I love sequins that much.

As I was trying on these dresses, the sweet sales associate asked me why I wasn’t going to any fun parties this year and I explained our situation and she said, “Honey, I know what you need then!” and she proceeded to bring me these…

…the world’s softest microfleece pajamas…which I promptly bought for myself and several for the girls in my family for Christmas gifts.  She’s right!  I might not have a fancy party to attend but I most definitely have a reason to wear super soft pajamas. I promise you…they are PERFECTION!  If you need a gift for any girl (teen to senior adult!), these pjs are what you should buy them!

And don’t forget, if you’re wearing a holiday dress, you might want to check out the Spanx department too…it just smooths everything out and makes your dress look even better!

    Shay. You should buy that polka dot dress and wear it to the freaking grocery store. You looked great in all of them and I loved all of your picks, but that one was my favorite for sure!

    That sequined dress is to die for! We don't have any fancy holiday parties this year either, but luckily my sister is getting married on December 13th, so I get to wear a full out sparkly gown!

    I think those sparkly dresses need to get in my Vegas vacay bag!!! No fancy holiday party to go to here either, though they would be useful for the black & gold glitter Harry Potter bachelorette party I'm throwing this weekend, too 🙂 And those PJ's are coming to live with me, done deal.     White House Black Market had a dress similar to the black sequins and I wore it to a fundraiser gala! It's probably my favorite dress ever! It was super cute belted! Love that you picked it out!
