Halloween came and went so quickly! We soaked it up, enjoyed it all and ate a lot of candy. Thank goodness Halloween fell on a Friday this year!
On the way to school Halloween morning, they wanted to stop in front of the scary house. Smith, of course, wore his Halloween pajamas and an eye patch. Argggg!
She’s cold and he’s peeking through…love these kids (after this we hurried to school, it was cold outside!).
I realized that Tab would be out of town on Halloween night, so I invited the Slaughters to eat Ghoul-ash with us at 4:45 and trick or treat in our neighborhood before we met up with other friends. Three turtles and two princesses. We’re just missing one little girl and then we’d be all complete :).
These kids are trick or treating pros!
I love it when people decorate for holidays! So much fun!!
I love this picture! They were laughing so hard!
At 6:30, we met over at the McAnally’s house with the Dreffs and of course, Andrea went above and beyond! She made this yummy Halloween punch that my kids LOVED!
Please stay little forever.
The whole gang enjoying their punch before we took off! I just love these kids!!
We stayed out with our friends trick or treating until around 8:00. We had the BEST time walking, eating our kids’ candy, talking and making memories.
When my kids got home, this happened. Everyone dumped out their loot before they went to take showers. I may have sifted through there for a few Heath Bars and Butterfingers…I might have.
I sent this picture to my dad on Halloween night. My parents have approximately 5,982 pictures of me sleeping like this when I was little…one leg crossed over the other.
Halloween 2014 is now in the books and was a huge success! I know you’re probably tired of me saying this…but the entire night, I thought about this little girl living in an orphanage right now that didn’t get to trick or treat…I cannot wait until next year when she’s there with us.
On the foodie blog today…
…Pasta Fagioli. A bowl of absolute goodness.

Just so you know–I'm not tired of hearing you talk about your girl in the orphanage AT ALL. I love it and it warms my heart. I am currently pregnant with our first child but my husband and I decided before we were married that we will adopt at some point. So it warms my heart each time you mention her. ? I can't wait to hear all about her and your life once she arrives.

Happy Halloween! Love the pic of K sleeping like you. I bet your dad treasures that snapshot and the memory it triggers. Ella sleeps like me and Kate sleeps exactly like my little sister. Too precious.

I love your blog. Please tell me sweet Ashby will be with you by Thanksgiving. She and your family have so much to be Thankful for with God bringing her into your life. I pray she will be here with you no later than Chritmas for sure. That sweet angle needs to be home for the holidays. Thanks for sharing your life.

You hang in there. The waiting seems so long—we waited 2 years for our first baby boy (now 8…eeeks!) and 5 years for our sweet baby girl (now 16 months) (domestic adoptions), but once the waiting is over the JOY is overwhelming and takes away all the pain 🙂 Enjoy keeping up with your beautiful family. We are so blessed!

Hi Shay – I agree w/the others, I'm never tired of hearing you talk about Ashby, in fact when you mentioned her and how she didn't get to trick-or-treat, I got teary eyed. She will be there next year right alongside her loving family!

This comment isn't at all related to your post but I wasn't sure where to send a random comment 🙂 Would you please consider doing a post on Christmas gift ideas, specifically for kids. Since I know you have already done all of your shopping I thought you would have some great ideas. Thanks!

I'm wondering if you could do a shade of Shay on preparing for adoption. What books you found helpful on parenting an adopted child, attachment, interracial adoption (if that applies)?
sara says
Ok you have to tell me- when are you decorating for Christmas?
My husband and I are having a little debate over it. 🙂
I want to do it next weekend and he says the day after Thanksgiving. I'm taking a general poll here!

So sweet! Love Kensignton's Mulan costume ~ my daughter was Mulan last year! I personally will never get tired of hearing about Ashby! Hearing about and watching families grow through adoption never gets old! Have you heard the song by Steven Curtis Chapman ~ When love takes you in? I had it on repeat that last month before traveling to China to get our daughter… such a beautiful song and describes exactly what families are going through while waiting! I'm truly so excited for your family! 🙂

Your kids are so adorable! We waited for 27 months to bring our sweet boy home. He's been home for almost 1 1/2 years now but I will NEVER forget the pain I felt while waiting for him to be in my arms. It's hard waiting (and waiting!) while trying to live a normal life. Every holiday we would paint pumpkins for Zeri or buy him a gift, but it was never the same as having him home with us. God knows exactly when your sweet girlie needs to be at home with you. HE is preparing your family for her and Ashby for your family. Even though it's hard to wait, God's timing is perfect. 🙂 But…it's still so incredibly hard to be patient and wait for HIS timing!:)

Nice to have Halloween on a Friday. Thank you for sharing your fun pictures Shay!

I had to laugh at the picture of Kensington with one leg crossed. At 30 years old I often sleep that way! I never start out that way, but my husband tells me I will often end up that way. Funny the different ways we find comfortable! And we will never tire of hearing you talk about Ashby! She is one lucky girl and God is working out the timing perfectly!

Awee Ashby!!!! Can you answer what country Ashby will be coming from? Or is that confidential? Your family is beautiful! !!
