Well, it’s Show & Tell Tuesday…on a Monday.
Tomorrow, Andrea is hosting her bi-monthly link-up and the topic is “what five people would you invite to a dinner party at your house?”…but, I’m blogging about this tomorrow…
…how seven years ago tomorrow, this sweet girl was born.
So, I’m sharing my dinner party guests with you today.
Okay…I thought long and hard about who I would want to come to my party. This is a tough decision friends! I want this party to be so much fun :). Here’s what I concluded:
1. Everyone needed to be currently living (it just simplified things).
2. Everyone needed to be fun (I don’t want boring people at my party!).
3. Everyone needed to get along with everyone else (no Real Housewives party at my house!).
4. Everyone needed to be good eaters…I don’t know for a fact that these people are good eaters (as I do not know them), but I’m hoping that they are.
5. When in doubt, invite a talk show host…or three…they’re good with awkward moments, funny lines and keeping the conversation flowing.
Such a tough guest list to come up with ;).
After much deliberation and prayer (okay, maybe I didn’t pray about it), here is who I’m inviting to my dinner party…
#1
Obviously, I would invite Michael Buble. Every time I’ve seen him in concert or on a talk show, he’s been really funny and seems easy to talk to. (Plus, I’m very kind of obsessed with him.) I would also ask him nicely to sing while he’s at my house. Ask/beg/plead…you know, hopefully, I’d get a song or two or fifteen out of him.
And…it’s super convenient to invite Buble because he’s friends with my second guest…
#2
Oh Jimmy Fallon, how I love thee. Who doesn’t love Jimmy Fallon? He seems so sweet, sincere, funny and charming all in one. I think he would be a blast at a dinner party. Whenever there was an awkward moment, I can see him filling it quite nicely.
And again, since he knows my third guest, they should get along swimmingly at my party…
#3
Ahhh…the lovely Kelly Ripa. I feel like she would do a great job talking with my other guests, she would keep the conversation light and yet super funny at the same time…and then I think we could bond over motherhood and whatnot. Plus, this would give me an opportunity to tell her how much I love her shorter hair :). And side note: in the above picture, she’s wearing plaid with sequins…I mean, I could not love that more.
And…Kelly knows my fourth guest too…
#4
It begins and ends with Oprah in my opinion. No matter what party I’m having…even if I’m only allowed to invite one guest, Oprah is the one. I love Oprah. I miss Oprah. My 4:00 in the afternoons haven’t been the same since she left daytime TV. Oprah is one of my favorite people on earth. Yes. Oprah, yes.
And since Oprah knows everyone, she would be easy to include at my party…however, it’s even better that she knows my fifth guest…
#5
Shonda Rhimes is invited to my party for many reasons (she seems super sharp, witty, funny, smart and lovable). That being said, she needs to come with a notepad and pen because I have a few notes for her about her TV shows. Let’s start with, why did you kill off Patrick Dempsey? No really, why? Second, how is How to Get Away with Murder going in your opinion? I keep watching…and yet, I’m confused. I’m going to need her to walk me through that. And finally, kill Jake. She and I will repeat that phrase over and over and over throughout the entire night. Kill Jake, kill Jake, kill Jake. Intermittently, we’ll throw a Team Fitz, Team Fitz, Team Fitz in the works. By the time the night is over, she and I will have written the series finale for Scandal and it’s going to be brilliant :).
So that’s it! These are my guests…
…what a good lookin’ group I have! Funny, smart, talkative, and in control of the outcome of my favorite TV show…yup, I invited a good group!
Who would you invite? If you could invite anyone to your house for a dinner party (living or not), who would it be? Comment and let me know!
Next time on Show & Tell Tuesdays, we’re sharing our first jobs.
And to see posts from the past…

I like your 5 dinner guests and I wasn't surprised at your number one. 😉 This is a hard one to think about; but I definitely would have Jimmy Fallon at my party but I would have to include Justin Timberlake with him because the two of them together are hilarious. I would also invite Peyton Manning, he's funny and he is a former Tn. Vol and I love football. Erin Andrews, she has a great sense of humor and could carry on conversations with anyone. My 5th guest, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. I'll count them as one since they are married. :)))) I met them at church when I lived in Nashville, they are a lot of fun and both of them can cook and sing. I think I have a pretty good party. I can't wait to read the other comments. Have a great week!
Paula says
I love your list!
Narci says
So fun!! That sounds like a great dinner party!!
Jess says
Nice list, except for the fact I'm Team Jake! I cannot get past the fact that Fitz is married and I really would love them to fix their marriage!
Rhiannon says
Sorry you had me until you said kill Jake! #teamjakealltheway

Is it weird that I started to panic about who would be at my virtual dinner party? Like, I had to stop thinking about it because I was worried about who to invite. And just fyi, at your dinner party, I'll be hiding in your pantry.
Amy Heinl says
My list would be Oprah, Tom Bergeron, Francisco Cerevelli (catcher Pitts Pirates who loves to cook and teaches kids cooking classes in his spare time), Amy Grant and Steve Harvey
Denise Panetta says
My list would be about the same also except I would replace Michael with Rod Stewart … grew up listening to him and have gone to about 40 of his concerts since I was 16.
Melissa says
I'm Team Fitz all the way as well so I'm rooting for Shonda to randomly show up at your door for dinner. Then maybe you can get to the bottom of all our questions ; ) Then if Jimmy could just write some thank you notes and Michael would sing, it would be super! Fun list!
kelsey @ so much life to live says
Hahaha! I love it! I would definitely want an invite to that party…
Erika Slaughter says
I panicked for a second that we chose one of the same people (because I'm sure it states somewhere in the rules two people can't choose the same person???). But we didn't! Whew! It was a close one! Your party would be fun!! Now I'm a little panicked we won't have as much fun at my party!!!
Unknown says
I absolutely LOVE your guest list. I would throw the exact same party (although I might switch out Oprah for Michelle Obama).
Angie says
I'll be honest….I was a little diasppointed at your dinner guest. Especially Oprah! But that's ok. 🙂
Leigh Clark says
Love that guest list!! I didn't go the celebrity route, I was too anxious, so inviting my best friends would be easiest for me!!

If I was to host a dinner party where I could invite anyone I wanted my list would be made up of some of my favourite people. Like you Michael Buble would be on my list as would Hugh Jackman, Prince Harry and two of my best friends Allison and Priscilla. Oh what aa fabulous night we'd have.
Gabriella N says
Great choices! Jimmy Fallon would be a hoot!

Happylife38 says
Oooh Kevin James, yesss, good one!!!
Alexa says
Ahh, I'm so team Fitz and my hubs is team Jake ALL.THE.WAY. He can't get over the fact that Fitz is married.. I say it's reality t.v. and it keeps things interesting. 🙂 Sooo ready for the new season. I'm thinking you should do a Friday recap of your thoughts after the show on Thursday's!
Donna says
Your list is awesome, I'd want to invite myself to your dinner party!
Bomb in A Birdcage says
Oh I'm totally Team Jake. The relationship between Olivia & Fitz is creepily obsessive to me!
Jenn says
I would totally love to have dinner with Jimmy Fallon too. And I'd invite Justin Timberlake and then just watch those two interact the entire night. You wouldn't need entertainment because those two would provide all you'd need! 🙂
Amanda Brezgel says
Nice group, Shay! LOVE IT!
Holly Morrison says
Perfect list! I LOVE Jimmy!! I went to one of his shows last October and it was the best experience! He is so genuine, down to earth, and loves his fans!
Laura says
Loved your list!
Elizabeth Birenbaum says
I think your dinner guests are perfection!!! I love them all too! Sounds like the best party!
Kristin says
I totally agree with Oprah and Fallon- LOVE those two! I would have to add Meryl Streep and Ryan Gosling to my list. Meryl is the my all time favorite actress and so funny and Gosling is just plain easy on the eyes. Then I would finish it out with my mom/best friend who I could never leave out and would need there to share all the fun!

Other the that.. I want to be a fly on the wall
At that dinner party!
Melanie Lien says
This list is hilarious and awesome! Can I just come to your dinner party??
Megan says
Sounds like a great party!!!! I might just drop in!!!
Happylife38 says
Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake are the first two, only because I really want them to do another History of Rap. I know I'm going over the number with these next few, but I think they should count as 1 collective guest: the cast of Friends, because I want to talk them into a reunion show. If they could count as 1, the last two would be Andy Cohen and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Lindsay says
Team Jake all the way!!
Johnna Bradley says
That is the best dinner party ever!! Team Fitz all the way!!!!
Haley Southey says
I LOVE Michael Buble. Love him. He'd be invited to my dinner party as well! & Justin Timberlake. Still love him as well!
Nerine says
Oh my goodness! Are we the same person? 🙂 I would totally choose guests 1-4, LOVE Michael and LOVE Kelly! I'll be honest, I've never seen a full Shonda Rhimes series. I know, I know, I'm crazy and am totally missing out!

Jade L says
Oprah!! Yes! I was so hoping you were going to list her! I LOVE that woman.
I would also invite Kate Middleton (and ask her to bring lots of photos of her beautiful babies!)
Frances says
Oh no, don't kill Jake. He already got the shaft in Felicity when she chose Ben over him, lol! And yes, I want to come to your party too and sit next to Jimmy. 🙂
Color Me Happy! says
Can I come too?!! And seat me next to Jimmy, would ya?! 🙂 Love him!!! And I agree, totally Team Fitz!
Mama Of Boys says
Excellent choices there. But most importantly, HOW YOUNG DID YOU GUYS LOOK WHEN KENSINGTON WAS BORN???? That's mental right there!!
shaeken says
Just make Shonda stand outside in the Texas heat until she agrees to bring back Patrick Dempsey, please and thank you!!! #IMissDerek 🙂
Debbie says
I'm not just saying this, because you're related, but I totally love Sean and Catherine, sooooo …
#1, Sean and Catherine Lowe
#2, Leah Remini and her husband
#3, Vince Gill and Amy Grant
And since I am inviting all couples I'll stop with these three (or 6)!
Beautifully Seaside // Formerly Chic Coastal Living says
Do me a favor and invite me to that dinner too because that group would be so much fun! XOXO
Lauren Donoghue says
Jimmy Fallon for sure, but gotta have JT there too! Then I'd invite Billy Joel for music and Derek Hough to drool over. Then Ellen DeGeneres, Amy Shumer and Lisa Kudrow. Oh and Matthew Perry and Michael Caine. Final answer.
And as much as I love Olivia and Fitz, I feel like their relationship is toxic in a way – Jake seems better for her. But I'm fine with either outcome because I feel like she honestly loves them both.
Molly MIller says
Finally it's 9pm and I have decided my guests for my dinner party!!! I went for a girls night… Girls, wine, good covers action and laughter are the best together! Okay so I would invite first Shauna Niequist! Such a fun adorable real gal! Then Joanna Gaines… She can help decorate my house while she's there too! She seems like such a true down to earth funny woman and I love her and Chip! Next: Carrie Underwood- downright gorgeous and talented! 4th I would choose Korie Robertson. I want to hang out with her! And last I would totally invite you, Shay, over to my girls night dinner party!!! 🙂
Paula says
LOVE THIS LIST TOO!

Kelly Ripa would be a perfect choice!
I love that plaid with sequins!!
Katie at Better Off Benedict says
Your party would be a blast 🙂 I'd love to come!
Jaren says
I love Jimmy too! Your list sounds awesome! I would have to add Paula Deen to mine too!
V @ X-tremely V says
Great list! Kelly Ripa and Jimmy Fallon would be so much fun!
Gretchen Braun says
Really great list! Jimmy is my favorite comedian and I love how he interacts with the guests. I bet he would be the perfect guest, and would bring lots of fun games to play!
Melanie Colvin says
Jakes should live. He rescued Olivia. Fitz is married!
Leanne says
I haven't been on the blog in a few days, so I'm just catching up. I'm trying to find the name of your cousin's bow company. I need some bows to match our new MJ for family pictures. Any chance you can help me out with it? And, is that first picture of you guys a selfie? Did you selfie 7 years ago before the selfie was a thing? I love it! (I know selfies weren't a thing because I too gave birth 7 years ago on Sept 10 to a sweet little lady.)
Mix and Match Mama says
It's One Stop Bow Shop :). You can find her on IG, FB or here http://www.onestopbowshop.com And yes, we were taking selfies before they were cool. We were taking them out of desperation! We were tired of never being in a picture together ;).
Danielle says
Shay, you are truly one of my favorite bloggers, although I am not sure what to do about that Jake comment! SHONDA…Jake should live and ALWAYS be on Scandal…preferably with his shirt off :)!!!!
Shay, I feel like we could be besties, but….Team Fitz!?!?!?!
I'd invite Carrie Underwood…and some others….I'd probably include Scott Foley on my list:)!!!
Amanda Bajin says
Oh my goodess! How am I just now seeing this blog post! I want to be a fly on the wall at your dinner party! What would you serve? I need to know the courses and the beverages that pair with them food. So so so fun!
