Happy Friday friends!
We have a BIG weekend ahead. Big, huge, gigantic…I already need a nap ;). It’s going to be fun, it’s going to be celebratory and it’s going to be special…so it’s big in all the best ways. If you’re a mama out there, I hope you have a special weekend planned too. I always want to say that I’m praying this morning for my friends out there who don’t have their mamas to celebrate with any more. I know this weekend is bittersweet for them and if that’s you too…I’m praying for you. Happy Mother’s Day weekend everyone. xo
Okay, I’m going to start random.
I watched this movie this week while I worked…
…and thought it was so cute! Now, I know that it’s six years old and most of you have probably already seen it. In my defense, it apparently came out on January 8, 2010 and I had a baby 8 days later…so, that’s probably why I missed it in theaters. All of that to say, it’s on Netflix and I enjoyed listening to it while I worked. Any other movies on Netflix right now that are similar to this one that I might like? I’m taking suggestions please for this and/or series I should be watching :).
I have been super pumped doing this Every Day in May with you this week! (You can read the post about it here.) So, it’s all about doing something good for yourself every day in May. Some ideas might even stick around and become regular habits. Here’s what we’ve done so far:
May 1: No caffeine for the day
May 2: Write down three things you’re grateful for at the end of the day
May 3: Read instead of watch TV that night
May 4: Call & schedule whatever doctor appointment you need to go to (skin check, OB annual, mammogram, dentist appointment, etc)
May 5: Drink 6 to 8 (8 oz) glasses of water
May 6: Pay it forward to someone today (maybe buy their drink at Starbucks or even just hold open the door…just pay it forward however you can)
So, that’s this week. You can keep up every day by clicking here.
A few quick things to note:
On May 1, I didn’t drink any coffee which was probably a first for me in about 15 years. What I learned was:
1. Surprisingly, I didn’t have a headache or anything (I just knew my body would go into withdrawals and/or shock and that I would need hospitalization ;)…)
2. I enjoy my morning coffee immensely because it makes me cozy and just happy for the day
3. That being said, I do not need that afternoon cup like I thought I did. Since May 1st, I have not had an afternoon cup of coffee. What? I’m shocked myself. I’m not saying I’m giving up afternoon coffee forever…but I definitely don’t need it daily like I once thought.
On May 2, I suggested we write down things we are grateful for each day. If you haven’t read this post here about how I wrote down 5 things I’m grateful for every day for 13 years, then you should. This little habit of mine changed my life.
Did you see my Apple Watch review this week? I was really surprised by the feedback I received. I had no idea so many of you had questions about the watch/didn’t know how the watch worked/were curious about the watch. If you missed it, see it here.
So, on Monday, I was doing the mom life thing with these two…
…one is mine, one is not…I’ll take them both though 🙂
And we took some pictures…
…how cute are these two?! I love them so much! Speaking of things I love, a crossbody bag on a busy day just makes my heart happy. Free hands for holding drinks and holding little hands. I am diggin’ mine here a lot! The brown is sold out (boo!) but it comes in ivory too. Since it’s sold out in brown, here are some other brown crossbody bags that are very similar…
If you haven’t gotten your mama a Mother’s Day gift yet…I’m going to suggest a tote or crossbody bag. I don’t know about you…but I just can’t have too many of either.
And psssst: that shirt I’m wearing is one of those Lush shirts that I just ADORE! They don’t wrinkle friends. Which to a mom…that’s gold. They come in 7 colors and even though I have two of the seven, I’m tempted to get the other five :). And another psssst: I’m wearing my favorite cami underneath it and my Wellies because…it had been raining all morning!
And speaking of Mother’s Day…
…the winner of our $500 Nordstrom Gift Card Giveaway is…

Congratulations Chelsea!!!

And random…but several of you asked me about my nail polish in this pic (I love a girl who loves polish!) and the answer is Essie’s Wicked :).
And finally…if you need a quick and easy Mother’s Day recipe for this weekend…
…my Strawberry Shortcake Cheesecake is what you should make. Your mama will be in love with this dessert (and she’ll never know how easy it was for you to make!).
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you mamas out there! I hope you have THE BEST weekend! Lots of love from this mama to you!
xoxo

You should totally watch the series on Netflix "I'll have what Phil's having" if you haven't. It is the creator of Everybody loves Raymond and he travels around the world learning about and trying different cuisine. It combines two of your favorite things: food and travel. And he is just delightful! My husband and I love it!:)

Erika's comment made me lol! That cheesecake looks AMAZING, B and A were so cute in your pics, and I love your new cross body! I ordered a cognac one last week, and when it arrived it was black. Dangit! I took it back and the brown one should arrive today (cross your fingers)! Off to check out the cheesecake now….

Have you watched When calls the heart? It's on netflix. It's hallmark channel so kind of slower but really clean which I love. It's just cute and would be great to watch while working.

Leap Year is in my top 5 favorite movies. I just love Amy Adams anyways.
I only drink afternoon coffee on Saturday – it's like an extra treat. funny what we get our bodies used to.
Yep – I do a blog post/ link up every Thursday called "Thankful Thursday" just for that reason – I keep a journal where I write down at LEAST 3 things every day I'm thankful for. Funny how you find the small things you would otherwise look over.

You have to watch the movie About Time with Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson…I don't think it's on Netflix but I have seen it on TV I believe (so it might be on On Demand). It's SUCH a feel good movie! You will love it!
Suzy says
Shay….if you love that cozy warmth that only coffee can give you….try drinking decaf in the afternoon (at least in the colder months) – I have been off caffeine for almost 2 years – but I still need that warm goodness – and I don't miss the caffeine at all!! 😉

I love the Netflix series Bomb Girls!

I know it's not book review day, but I have a suggestion for a book I just finished and thought you may like! "Instant Mom" by Nia Vardalos (from/wrote My Big Fat Greek Wedding). It was about her infertility journey and eventual adoption of her daughter who was almost 3 when she joined their family. It was so interesting, sweet and funny. I definitely recommend it!

I love her!!! Adding that book to my Amazon cart!

This is an older movie as well but One Small Hitch is pretty hilarious. Thanks for posting such lovely posts every day – reading them has become a part of my daily routine. 🙂

I don't think I've ever seen Leap Year! I'll have to add it to my list. You're a Scandal fan, right? I've been loving Shonda Rhimes's new show The Catch…if you haven't seen it yet, I recommend it! It's just weird to see a Braverman as a bad guy! Ha
Megan Chilo says
You have to see the Time Travelers Wife and The Vow! Although I'm not sure if they're on Netflix or not :/ but still, see them! Happy Mother's Day! xo

I love your everyday May goals. I write down goals for each season. Like over the season (winter, spring, summer or fall) what my goals are. I also have a "to do" list for the day or week but I love this idea of having 1 small or big goal a day. It's makes this less overwhelming and more manageable. Small things can make a HUGE difference. I'm going to start doing that. 2 weeks ago I had foot surgery, thank G-d everything is fine but it has been hard not being able to be in my normal routine. I haven't really been able to walk for 2 weeks and now I'm just starting to feel like myself again. Please pray that I recovery quickly. Thanks for the Goal Idea – Loving it. Happy Mother's Day Shay! I hope you have a wonderful day with your mama and a wonderful day with your kiddos. I'm sure Catherine is excited since next Mother's Day she will get to celebrate it for real. xoxo

So appreciate your mention of those who have lost their Moms. I lost my Dad 5 years ago, and people don't realize how difficult these parental holidays can be for those who have lost a loved one.
Your prayers and thoughtfulness are most appreciated!

Shay I love the May 2nd idea. I have a tendency to think negatively and a friend suggested I start writing down 25 things I am thankful for every day. I started in a few months ago, and I have been absolutely amazed by how this has totally changed my thinking about everything. I have become a more positive person trusting God wholly and completely. This is a wonderful idea for anyone who struggles with negative thinking.

That cheesecake looks YUMMY! And I will totally second you on the crossbody bag! I love mine!

Leap Year is such a cute movie! A few other older ones I love are My Best Friend's Wedding, Sweet Home Alabama, Serendipity, You've Got Mail, and Just Like Heaven.

I love Leap Year! Another cute movie, if you haven't seen it already, is Something Borrowed. It was from the book by Emily Giffin. I also thought of He's Just Not That Into You. Both really cute but I'm not sure if they are on Netflix.
Amber says
You should watch The Decoy Bride, it's funny and cute. And also a little heartbreaking.
Jennifer Jackson says
You should definitely watch The Parenthood on Netflix if you haven't already. Like you, I like to have something going on in the background while I work and this popped up a few weeks ago as a suggestion and I.Am.Hooked! I've laughed, I've cried, It's incredible!!
Jen Arthur says
I love that movie! It's just so cute. I'm a sucker for anything cheesy and romantic, so I'm not hard to please 🙂 I absolutely love your suggestion to keep track of little moments you are grateful for every single day. I had to stop reading this post to go check that other one out. To be honest, I'm in a bit of a funk with that lately, so it was such a good reminder! I seriously need to convince my husband that I NEED an apple watch too….it's now on my list of things I didn't know I always wanted! Happy weekend, hope you have a fantastic Mother's Day!
