Okay, so this month marks 9 years of me blogging.
Nine. Years.
Over the last 9 years a lot has changed and a lot has stayed the same. One constant though over this last decade…
…I AM OBSESSED WITH THE OLYMPICS.
You’ll notice that every 2 years, I get all giddy and crazy with Olympic fever. I’m one of those nuts who finds herself up at 2:00 AM cheering on some sport she’s never heard of all because they’re on team USA! I’m so stinkin’ excited that opening ceremonies start TONIGHT! #somebodypinchme #teamUSA
Found a new top I love. Paired it with my shorts and called it a win.
Two more angles for ya. I’m probably going to wear this top about 100 times between now and cooler weather.
Speaking of things that get me all giddy, my July Book Review is one of them. Check out my review and make sure you read the comments HERE.
So, I’m heading to LA on Sunday night to film my segment for the Hallmark Channel. It will be airing (I believe) on Tuesday morning and again Wednesday afternoon. Check your local listings for details. I’ve decided that this is my new favorite airplane outfit…
…I wore this dress on the flight to Nantucket (let’s not go there again…) and I’ll wear it again on Sunday. Comfy and doesn’t wrinkle. I’m paring it with my favorite wedges of the summer. Easy peasy with my favorite denim jacket on top.
It’s my B.L.A.T. Burger! What does that mean? It’s a BLT flavored turkey burger with a little avocado…because avocado makes EVERYTHING better. Click HERE for the recipe.
Those are my Friday Favorites!
We have a very chill weekend planned. Some of our favorite Missouri family is coming to see us, we have a family party at my aunt’s house, and we’re on the homestretch of recovery. I hope you have a blessed weekend too!

Team Jordan all the way. Just like Jo Jo I loved him from the beginning.
Erika Slaughter says
I’ve been talking the Olympics up with my kids! Go Team USA! You know the schedule always confuses me (I need the schedule of events on a billboard) and with the time difference-I’ll be a mess this year, but I’m giving it my best shot! I might just DVR it all so we don’t miss our faves.
Sanna says
Shay, you and Erika are so good to love the Olympics and cheer for your country. I don’t know why I am so not into it. I really want to be into it and look forward to it. It is just such a historic and exciting event and yet I am totally not on board. Even the opening ceremonies, which are always so spectacular, and I can’t be bothered sitting through it. Something is wrong with me!!!!
Sheaffer says
That top is so cute! You look 6 feet tall in that dress. And that burger? COME TO MAMA.
Jess Deisher says
Love your style! That blue top is so cute

What’s the current opinion on white jeans/pants?
How far past Sept. 1 can you wear them?
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh goodness, in my opinion, they can always be paired with a sweater year around…but that’s just my opinion!
Sanna says
Totally agree with Shay!! Ignore the old “can’t wear white after Labor Day” adage. Wear it year-round!! And if you feel a little uncomfortable wearing white jeans in a snowstorm, substitute it for the ivory, cream and winter-white colors. I’m team white all year-round all the way!!!
Narci Dreffs says
We are so ready for the Olympics!! Go Team USA!! Can’t wait to watch the opening ceremonies tonight!! 🙂 and that blue top is DARLING!!
Meagan Ruse says
I’m so excited!!! Love you friend ❤️

Cannot wait for the Olympics! I am keeping schedules of certain sports on hand!

I have a question about your PAST Friday Favorites that I have been meaning to ask 🙂 love love love the clarisonic and I love love love the face tan towelettes that you recommend. I have been buying them ever since your first post on them and totally agree they are the best face tan around. That said, if I use my clarisonic everyday, I feel like the tan goes away in 2 days. How do you use them both in your routine? Do you re-apply the tan every couple of days, or skip a day or so with the clarisonic?
Sanna says
Hi Jac,
Just thought I’d give you my take on the Clarisonic/ self-tanner debacle. I used to sell Clarisonics and yes, absolutely, it makes your self-tan last less long. Which is actually a good thing, since it means your Clarisonic is in essence doing its job of exfoliating and turning over your skin. Clarisonics are safe to use twice a day, because they are gentle enough on your skin, even though they do have exfoliating properties. I just apply my self tanner more often because I truly feel my skin doesn’t feel as smooth and clean if I skip a day. I think that’s partly personal preference to what’s more important to you and also how your skin reacts. Personally I feel like my skin is in better condition not skipping a day of the Clarisonic. Hope this helps. 🙂

Thank you Sanna! I appreciate your comment! I agree with you – thank you!

I’m cuckoo for the Olympics, too, and can hardly wait!!!

NINE YEARS?! Wow, Shay, that’s incredible! I’ve been blogging for 1.5 years now and I am so so sad that I didn’t start earlier… like say 9 years ago when my hubs and I got engaged. There are so many things that I missed from starting too late. Guess I need to start a TBT series and get some of that old stuff on there! Haha.
Good luck with your filming next week! I can’t wait to see it! Big things are surely happening for you and I love it!
Bridget says
You should check out the Paralympic games too- athletes with physical challenges that work incredibly hard and don’t get the recognition that Olympic athletes do! The Paralympic games are in Rio starting in September! I’m biased, my sister is one of them!
Courtney Schreiber says
Thanks for sharing your Friday favorites with us! I definitely get the Olympic feels…USA! You should have seen my husband’s face last night when I went through the TV guide and set ALL of the gymnastics and beach volleyball games to record…????????????
What show are you airing on the Hallmark Channel?
Lauren says
We can’t wait for the olympics, my husband is even considering cable again! Now that’s American pride right there, haha.
So glad that Smith and Ashby are recoverying so well!
Nicole says
Just preordered your new cookbook and I’m so excited! Random question, when you’re in a little season like this where your normal schedule is off how does that change your fitness schedule? Do you do things at home in lieu of the gym? How many days a week? Thanks!
Emily says
I can’t wait to watch the Hallmark channel!! So fun!!!
Megan says
Sooo I was totally with you on all your favorites today …. Till the turkey burger. Hahaha!! You know turkey and I aren’t friends!!! But yay for the Olympics, the bachelorette (being over!), and your ️adorable Maxi dress!! Happy weekend girl!!!
Kristine says
Same question as above about the working out! I miss your “Shades of Shay” series and would love to see one about your work out routine whether it is at home or in the gym (or both!) and how you manage it with three kids 🙂 Also love Jojo and Jordan! 🙂
Kelli says
I just finished Here’s To Us…thanks to you July book review. I love Elin Hilderbrand books and can’t wait to visit Nantucket one day. 🙂 http://classysoutherntexan.blogspot.com/
Jess says
Odd question, but does Smith have a favorite book series he likes to read? I’ve got a son about his age and could use some recommendations on any good series for boys!
Mix and Match Mama says
Not yet. Sorry!
Heather says
What is the nail color you are wearing with the blue top? I love the light pink!
