Well, today is the last day of school. I have REALLY mixed emotions about this. I am thrilled that my kiddos will be home all summer with me…but I’m sad because I felt like this year just flew by. I don’t know…I wish they would stay little forever, but it feels like time is actually speeding up. First and second grades this year were great! My kids loved their teachers, they made new friends, they enjoyed going to school and I know that might not always be the case, so I try not to take it for granted. I’m just a ball of emotions. It’s bittersweet, you know? I was tucking Kensington into bed last night and it was like “wow”, she is a big kid now. It just happened fast. Okay…on to today’s post…
Last Thursday, I made my annual trip to Boston to watch the Red Sox play!
I had my book and was ready to go! (And pssssst: in case you missed my book review, you can read it HERE.)
My flight landed at 1:24 AM and instead of taking a cab to the hotel, look who was there to pick me up?! Ah! I just love my dad! My parents had been there the day before to see another Sox game (I stayed home one extra day so that I didn’t miss Britt’s arrival!).
We set out to enjoy Boston the next morning and it was cold and raining, but that did not dampen our spirits!
It’s always so special to hang out with my parents 🙂 .
(And pssssst: you can find my scarf HERE.)
We stopped for lunch at Joe’s American Grill on Newbury Street and had the PERFECT table! It kept us dry, but we felt like we were outside (it was enclosed).
Blackened fish sandwich. Yes, ma’am!
It stopped raining, and we we explored a bit more before our game that night.
Beautiful.
Love my mama.
And then…it was time for this…
Our game at Fenway Park!!
My happy place.
Lookin’ at our little piece of Fenway.
Yum-my!
And then we watched the Sox beat the Mariners 🙂 . It was a great day!
We woke up the next morning and were back at the airport before 6:00 AM. It was a short trip, but just what I needed!
I just love me some Boston!

I just love how close you are to your parents. I pray my kids still want to hangout with me when they are adults. I would love to read a post on how your family cultivated such a strong bond. So special!

I agree, would love to hear that as well!

Love and what a fun trip with your parents! That is awesome and hope to have that with my kiddos in their adult years.
On the last day of school, always bittersweet for a mama’s heart, but so LOVE having them home (I’m the one hoping for snow days so they can stay home, ha). Elementary flew by, and today my oldest does his last walk down the hall as a 5th grader…I already know this mom will need some Kleenex.

The picture of you and your mom standing by The Sevens & Ninos is EXACTLY where I pictured BIB’s to be. 🙂

Jumping in here… I live in Maine and have spent a lot of time in Boston. I adore the Marriot Custom House – it’s the building with the clock tower. It’s also in a great location, right by the aquarium and near the North End (the Italian section of the city). 🙂

Love this so much! I’ve been on many trips with my parents as an adult (leaving hubby and kids at home) and felt like I was the only one! Love seeing this! Thanks for sharing! I think I need to make it a bucket list item to hear “my song” played at Fenway!

You have such a close relationship with your dad. I love to see that! Mine passed away last year. Enjoy these wonderful times. Maybe one day you can share a pic of both your parents young, they are such a cute couple.

We had 2 days in Boston last fall at the end of a cruise and loved it! One of our favorites was the Fenway Park tour. It was during the playoffs last year so didn’t get to see a game. We enjoyed following the Freedom Trail and had to have dinner at an Italian restaurant in the North end (ours was Limoncello which was wonderful). We stayed in a nice hotel in Back Bay which was really convenient to the Boston Common and the subway which was much easier than in NYC and faster and a lot cheaper than taxis, especially to the airport.

Please tell me how you manage to keep your hair looking good in the humid, rainy weather. I’ve tried everything to get that lift at the roots but nothing works. Do you use a certain product? How do you keep it from going flat?

I’m really curious as how a Texas family has such a love of Boston and especially the Sox? Please don’t misunderstand as I’m a native Bostonian and love my NE teams!

My dad grew up a Sox fan and it has rubbed off on me :).

Ah Shay!!! I was so upset that you flew into Boston the day that I was leaving for my California vacation! I had my Cravings book in hand wishing for an autograph! Come back soon!!!
