Hey, hey Monday!
I hope you guys all had a great weekend! I got to spend time with my three grandparents and bonus grandad this weekend which is ALWAYS such a blessing. Guys, my dad’s sweet parents are 94 and 96 years old…and well, my Mimi’s not doing well (which is expected when you’re 94), and she was in the hospital all last week with my sweet, sweet grandpa holding her hand the entire time. I’m just so thankful that I’ve had them both as long as I have.
Quick story before I begin…I talk about my grandfather William all the time on here (my mom’s dad). He was pretty young when he became a grandpa, and I was the first grandkid which made us extremely close. Twenty two years ago tomorrow, he died of cancer at only 65 years old…and so I think about him every single day, but obviously with the date approaching and my dad’s mom in the hospital, I’m thinking of him extra right now. Anyway, on the day he died, my grandmother was in the room with her two kids and the grandkids along with his very best friend Eroy and…my dad’s parents. I’ll always remember us around his hospital bed saying our goodbyes and thinking how cool it was that my grandparents loved each other so much as in-laws that when my grandpa died, my dad’s parents were in the room too. That’s pretty cool. Okay, I’m going to cry now, so I better move it along. Ugh. One of the yuckiest parts about getting older is that your grandparents get older too.
Today, I’m recapping one of my VERY favorite days from our trip today. We had so many good ones, but this one here ranks up there in the top two. As I think back about my own grandparents, it makes me a bazillion times more thankful for this vacation in particular (see a future post for more on that).

Let’s do it…
Good morning, Nantucket!
Our first stop of the day…Bartlett’s Farm for beach provisions. This isn’t just a gourmet grocery store, it’s a working farm too! We love it!
Right outside of Bartlett’s is a playground too!
There are few things in life I love more than a random Madeley selfie.
After we had our goodies, it was time to head back to…
…another day at the beach 🙂 .
Not a lot of pictures, but a whole lot of fun.
After a really full day at the beach…
…we cleaned up and got ready for dinner.
He loves being a girl dad.
She’s as tall as I am now. It’s so weird. I love this girl so much!!
For dinner on this night, we headed back to Or, The Whale (in an earlier post, we enjoyed brunch there too!).
Sitting out on their patio enjoying dinner is one of my favorite things to do.
The next morning, we headed to Island Kitchen for breakfast!
Seriously, a big breakfast always makes me the happiest. If I could enjoy a hearty big breakfast every single day, I would.
After we ate, the boys went to the park to hit some baseballs while the girls headed to Children’s Beach in town for a little sun and sand to start the day.
Toes in the water selfie.
After we met back up with the boys, it was time for our fun afternoon boat excursion…
…before we left for our trip, we made reservations with Sweet Yacht Charter for an afternoon boat ride from town to Great Point (the most northern tip of the island). This was my favorite thing we did on the trip! Even though we were on a boat (gasp!), it was such a fantastic way to see the island and have family fun!
We arrived with our swimsuits on so that we could stop and enjoy the ocean too! We were all SO excited!!
When the flag tries to sneak in on your selfie.
Off we go! Their boat was BEAUTIFUL, had so much room, a head (restroom) an indoor area if you wanted out of the sun, a big wide area for jumping off in the front…it had everything we needed. A sweet couple owns this boat and chartered us around themselves. They provided drinks, fruit, chips and a huge charcuterie board too for our three hour cruise (anyone else singing the Gilligan theme song??).
Please note: I counted and there were FORTY SEVEN PICTURES OF ASHBY HERE. Apparently, Madeley found my phone. Bahahaha! I’m only going to post one.
Another shot by Madeley James.
Is Smith the captain?
Nope.
Captain Mades.
We did so much swimming out near Great Point!
That face!
It was one of those days we’ll remember forever.
After a super fun day, we hurried back to shower and change because we had dinner reservations at one of our FAVORITE spots!!
I love this kid so much!
I love him too 🙂 .
We had matching braids. 🙂 She’s never leaving my house. She tells the kids all the time that she will live with me forever. I’m okay with that too. 🙂
We had dinner on this night at Cru which we LOVE!! A day on a boat followed by a delicious dinner? Sign me up!
Oh please take me back.
When you’re Madeley Shull’s sibling…
…this is your life 😉 .
That wraps up today’s blog post! Sending you lots of love this Monday morning!!! xx

Yes!I say all the time the worst part about getting older is watching my parents and grandparents get old. I wish they lived forever 🙁
Also, with how busy summer has been I’ve put my devotionals on the back burner. Could you eventually do a post on your all time favorite devotionals?
Mix and Match Mama says

What a sweet trip! And a sweet tribute. We just lost my grandpa (my dad’s dad) to cancer at 90 years old last week, so I get what you’re going through! I have one grandma and one bonus grandma left at 32, and I do consider myself blessed for the years with all of my grandparents!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh Kayla, I am so very sorry for your loss!!

Loving this trip recap, makes me want to plan a fall visit to Nantucket. Could you share where your shorts are from? We have a lake place and those (clearly) look perfect for days spent boating. Prayers for your sweet grandparents.

I actually bought them in the hotel gift shop!

Just FYI for a fall trip- My husband and I did this last year and weren’t aware that the island basically closes down after Columbus Day.

The last two pictures are the best! I also liked the ones jumping off the boat-pure joy!

Prayers for your Mimi. It is definitely hard to lose grandparents. We are so blessed for the time we get them and I am hoping my kids enjoy their grandparents as much as I enjoyed mine (and still do). This trip is giving me all the travel feels. I need a trip there. And all the lobster rolls. YUM!
Where did you get your shorts on the boat pic? They look so comfy and cute! Thanks for sharing your family vacay. Everyone looks so happy, healthy, and excited to be together. Not much better than that!

Awwww! Thank you, thank you, thank you for your prayers. I actually bought those in the hotel gift shop. 😉

I have not been to Nantucket since the 60’s. If my wish comes true I will be there in October! I have always wanted to to return. Now at 67 I cannot stand to wait any longer. My Uncle John Reynolds owned a restaurant there in the early 60’s he also was a florist/party planner on the Island for awhile. I have so many awesome memories.
Thanks for your videos. Do you have any suggestions for a place to stay while I am there? Preferably not to expensive.
Best regards,
Holly Morris Hahne

There are so many inns right in town that I would recommend, Lamplight Inn, Sherburn Inn…there are so many!

Noticed I’m probably the only guy to respond. Your blog popped up under local news when I went to google to search. Being curious I checked it out especially as my late wife & I spent a lot of time going to Nantucket. Brought back a lot of memories. Reading & seeing pics of people having fun is a pleasant alternative to the depressing news that we’re constantly hammered with.
