It’s What’s Up Wednesday !
Once a month, my friends Mel, Sheaffer and I host this link up where we share some random and fun stuff that’s up with us today. If you blogged WUW too, make sure you link up at the bottom of the post! Every month, we answer these questions…
…in our What’s Up Wednesday posts!
It’s Thanksgiving Eve!!!
Anyone else super excited?!?!
We’re having our first unconventional Thanksgiving this year. This year, we’re celebrating both Christmas and Turkey Day with Andrew’s family all at once. Dinner tonight is our traditional Christmas Eve dinner along with presents and then tomorrow, we’ll celebrate Thanksgiving. That’s the best of both worlds, right? Other than the first year we were married, this is the only time we’ve ever been home on Thanksgiving (we’re typically at one of our parents’ houses), so we’re enjoying that too. Speaking of Thanksgiving…
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
You can see my Thanksgiving Everything post HERE…
…you can find my 18 Thanksgiving Pie Recipes post HERE…
…and my Thanksgiving Day Parade Breakfast Menu HERE.
2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
All the fun we had this fall. As pumpkin season wraps up and Christmas begins, I’m thinking about what a sweet autumn we had as a family. I just LOVE this season!
3: WHAT I’M LOVING:
Oh goodness, this dress has a surprise inside that I was not expecting when I ordered it. Wait for it…it feels like a sweatshirt. #amen
I bought this dress in black (it comes in two other colors too) and when it arrived and I tried it on, it felt like cozy pajamas. I mean…YES! It was 34 when we left for church that morning, so I wore it with tall boots from last year and my heavy coat. (Similar boots HERE.) Then later that night, we went to dinner and I wore it like this…
It’s a dress that feels like a sweatshirt. Basically, it’s amazing. (And the boots and jacket are both older, but you can see similar boots HERE and a jacket HERE.)
Also, that clutch I keep talking about (because I love it)…
…is 30% off right now with code THANKS 🙂 .
4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
It’s Thanksgiving break, so we’ve been staying up later, having sleepovers in our room, spending time on our downtown square and stuff like that! We’re enjoying this little stay-cation 🙂 .
Right this minute, not a darn thing.
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
Well, not only am I planning other people’s vacations, but I’m planning my own as well. How in the world are we going to top Alaska from this past summer? We’re going to try 🙂 .
Right now, Mix and Match Travel Agency is planning trips in 2018 for Mexico, Walt Disney World and cruises all over the world for new clients (we send existing clients anywhere!). Email us at mixandmatchtravelagency@yahoo.com if you’re ready to plan your 2018 trip too.
Here’s something else I’m working on right now…
FIVE DAYS OF FABULOUS.
Get ready, girls. Sheaffer and I have gifts to give and fools to make of ourselves 😉 . ‘Tis the season! It all starts this MONDAY!!
7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
BRING. IT. ON, CHRISTMAS.
My November Book Review will be on Tuesday! If you missed my October Book Review…
…you can see it HERE. I read several good ones last month that you won’t want to miss! You can see all of the books and read my reviews HERE.
This is such a good time of year to read!!
And what I’ve been watching…
EVERYTHING. HALLMARK.
I cannot stop watching those Christmas movies. They’re mushy, predictable, cheesy and absolutely perfect to watch in lieu of all the other negative things you’ll find on TV these days. They’re just HAPPY, and I’m at a point in life where I just want happy.
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
24/7
Seriously, I basically listen to it in my sleep 🙂 .
Lots of holiday red…
…Christmas pjs and a red sweater…
…and red heels too 🙂 .
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
Home for the Holidays in downtown McKinney! This was us last year…and we are PUMPED about this year too!
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
I’m looking forward to so many things…like my annual recipe exchange!
13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
I think we covered everything!
Bonus question this month: What are some fun things to do with your Elf of the Shelf?
I actually have a Pinterest board for that!! You can see my family’s ideas plus other ones I love here…
Okay! That’s What’s Up Wednesday today! If you blogged too, make sure you link up below.

You always get the cutest pictures capturing all your holiday fun! Does it ever stress you out? I mean, because #reallife sometimes I just want to get that cute picture and I can be no fun for anyone. What’s your mantra for this? (Because you always handle everything with such grace ?).
Mix and Match Mama says
Well, you don’t see the pics where everyone is a hot mess 🙂 . If I start to take a pic and someone has a bad attitude, I just don’t take one. I wait until my peeps are all happy 🙂 .

Love your elf on the shelf board! My firstborn is just now old enough – so we will start this year! Also, advent calendar. We never did that growing up. Help! What is your tradition? Happy Thanksgiving!!

I love Hallmark Christmas movies! Such a fun way to get into the Christmas sport with my tree lit, cozy clothes, a cup of tea and Hallmark. Love that they’re appropriate for kids too!

Yay! What’s Up Wednesday is one of my favorites posts of yours each month. Random question for you – do you have a speaker that you use to listen to your music or do you just play it from your phone? I used to have a JamBox, but it broke years ago and I haven’t replaced it. I’m thinking that might be a great Black Friday purchase. I’d love your thoughts!

Are the Ann Voskamp Christmas devotionals you talked about easy for kids to understand or do you get a separate advent calendar for them??
Mix and Match Mama says
They totally are! She has adult stuff and family stuff and those are in the family category.

As someone who lives in the Midwest, I had to smile at your “heavy coat” for a night out! Loving all the red. Also listening to Michale Buble Christmas at this very moment 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving!
Mix and Match Mama says
I bet it gets colder here than you think. We’re in North Texas, so it gets down to the teens here in the winter. Right now, it’s 31. That’s coat weather, right? 😉
Diana Barton says
We celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas together every year with my Dad and step-mom so we created it’s own name! We call it “Turkeymas”! It’s become a tradition in our family since my Dad lives in GA and it’s easier to travel in between the holidays. Our kids love the extra celebration with family and love the special name we’ve given it – makes it even that more special! It sounds like you’re going to have the perfect Turkeymas this year also! 🙂
Angela says
Love all of this!! That black comfy dress?? Yes please! Can you tell more about the red/black Sherpa blanket Kensington has in the sleepover picture? It looks so cozy and comfy!!! Thanks Shay & Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s from Pottery Barn 😉 .
Rhonda says
My parents have always traveled to my brother’s house out of state for Thanksgiving and then the next day, they celebrate Christmas early. His kids started calling it “First Christmas” over the years so the name stuck! Happy “First Christmas” to you and your family tonight Shay! Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow too!
Brooke W says
You can actually see through the bottom of the black dress and it got very mixed reviews on Nordstrom website. Not sure it would be good for winter??? Any thoughts??
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m always worried about seeing my undies through a dress, and in the black one, I couldn’t see anything. I thought the fleece-like material gave it really good coverage.
Holly says
Come to New Zealand as a holiday!!! its a 12 hour flight direct from LA so not too far away!!
Lindsey says
We are currently in Grapevine with my family celebrating “Thanksmas”! We will spend Christmas at home in Atlanta this year. We LOVE doing Thanksmas. It spreads out the fun all season!

Could you do a review on your Sonos system? Or maybe you’ve talked about it before. I’m interested in learning more about how it works and what you like about it.

We love it! We have it in our home and at our office. We absolutely love it!

Hi Shay! I posted this week sharing some of my elf ideas. I hope you’ll check it out. Maybe you can use an idea or two. It’s seriously one of the most magical Christmas traditions I did for my boys.
