First day.

I have this picture in a frame on my desk.  I took it the morning Kensington went to first grade and Smith went to kindergarten.  It was a big deal that morning.  My two babies were heading off to school and it would just be Ashby at home.  I specifically remember thinking that I better soak up the days because it wouldn’t be long before she went too.  Fast forward three years and here we are.  Today, Kensington heads off to fourth, Smith goes to third and our sweet Ashby will start kindergarten.  This is such a bittersweet day that we’ve thought about and prayed about for many months.  She is so ready.  She is excited and a little nervous, but we just know she’s going to shine in elementary school.  Please pray for our sweet girl.  She has this spirit about her.  She is so unbelievably strong, but at the same time, she’s a little fragile too.  We covet your prayers as she enters the world of big kid school.  This mama could use some prayers this morning as well.  I’m not sure who is going to cry more…Andrew or me…but there will be tears shed as we leave her behind that kindergarten door today. xo

When my first went to Kindergarten, I remember reading a quote saying “a ship stays safe in the harbor, but that is not what ships are built for.” This makes me think of Ashby on this BIG morning as well.

  • Leanne Gilchrist August 20, 2018 at 12:10 pm

Shay, I’ll be praying for Ashby throughout the day. She’s going to surprise you. God is with her, and though she be but little, she is fierce. Fiercely strong, fiercely loving, and fiercely compassionate. She’ll have everyone loving her before she even says a word. I’ll pray for you as well, for your heart. God has inscribed both you and Ashby on the very palm of His hand. He says that nobody and nothing can snatch you out. Ashby is in VERY good Hands, indeed!

  • Sara F August 20, 2018 at 12:21 pm

Hang in there, mama! Is it sad that I still want to cry when I leave my sweet Liam (10 months old) at a baby sitter when I go to work? He is loved and cared for by our AWESOME sitters! I know that! But I still hate leaving him! I don’t even want to think about how much of a mess I’ll be when he starts kindergarten. All that being said, good luck today! I hope brunch with your gfs keeps you busy and that this afternoon, your happy girl tells you about what a GREAT first day she had!

  • Shevonne August 20, 2018 at 1:56 pm
