Happy Thursday, friends!
Okay, we are still working our way through my family’s WONDERFUL Spring Break trip to Japan.
If you’ve missed any of the recap posts…
I first shared OUR ARRIVAL AND DAY ONE.
Then, I shared OUR EPIC DAY IN KYOTO.
That day was followed by our day that included PUNCH THE MONKEY + ST. PADDY’S DAY + A DINNER FOOD TOUR.
And then yesterday, I shared about how the four Shull girls had an AMAZING DAY AT TOKYO DISNEY while the boys went snowboarding.
It was our first time to divide and conquer on a trip, and it worked out SO WELL!
The girls got up and headed to Tokyo Disney while the boys…

…met their guide for the day in the hotel lobby and headed to the train station. They took a one hour and forty five minute train ride from Tokyo to Gala Yuzawa to snowboard 🙂 .
Here’s another little map…

…so you can see where they went.
Gala Yuzawa is about 130 miles from Tokyo, and we decided it was the perfect spot for them to get in a little snowboarding while we were in Japan.
There are a lot of great ski/snowboarding destinations in Japan, but since this was only a day trip, we were looking for convenient and relatively close.
The excursion our travel agency designed for this trip included a guide that picked them up from our hotel, went with them on the train from Tokyo to Gala Yuzawa, and the guide had their lift tickets and rented gear all ready and waiting for them when they arrived. To simplify things, Andrew and Smith packed their own jackets, goggles, gloves and “unders” and then rented snowboards, helmets, and boots.

Boarding in Japan was on their bucket list, so I am SO HAPPY they were able to do it!

These two were super sweet and took a few pics for me to share.

Looks pretty gorgeous to me!

I love the closeup of them, but I also really like…

…this one because you can see all of the snowy mountains behind them.

They snowboarded all day and even had lunch on the mountain (they had Salisbury steak).

Their guide waited for them at the lodge below and then took them back to Tokyo at 5:00.
These two had the BEST day on the mountain!
This was certainly a bucket list item for them to check off…and it’s pretty fitting to share today, Andrew’s birthday. One of his very very favorite things to do is snowboard with his boy.
Don’t forget, if you missed what the girls were doing that day, you can check out our DAY AT TOKYO DISNEY too 🙂 .
I am also sharing MY #1 MOST FAVORITE EASTER DESSERT RECIPE TODAY as well as THURSDAY FAVORITES too! xx

Those mountains are gorgeous! Smith really has sprouted. I can relate. I have a 6ft 5in 17 year old and he grew a foot in 3 years.
Whitney says
Holy smokes, Smith has grown up right before our eyes! You can hardly tell which is which when they’re side by side (and matching lol!).

Looks beautiful!!!

How did they think the snowboarding there compared to other places they’ve snowboarded? Would love to hear their rankings of the places they’ve been.
Mix and Match Mama says
They thought it was great! It wasn’t as extreme/high as some of the places they’ve visited (this particular spot, there are many others in Japan), but they really enjoyed it.
Kristen says
What did they think of the mountain and Japan terrain and conditions? Was it better or worse than they expected?
Mix and Match Mama says
They were pleasantly surprised. Where they were for the day wasn’t super high in elevation, but it wasn’t crowded and the weather was great for them.
Lisa says
Did they take the bullet train?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!
