Happppppy Wednesday, friends! I hope you’re having a great mid-week! Anyone else counting down to the weekend already though? #iamsoready
Today, I have a trip recap for you!
Last Thursday, Madeley and I went to BOSTON with my parents!
Ah! She was so excited!!! We got up earlllly on Thursday morning, headed to the airport, grabbed breakfast and then met up with my parents. Last year, was M’s first time to visit Boston with Kensington and me, so she was super excited to head back. This year, when Kensington said she wanted to go to NYC for her 10th birthday, I told her that was fine, but she couldn’t miss school for two trips, so she said she would skip Boston this year and catch back up with us next year. We had so much fun, but we really did miss our oldest girl.
She packed her own backpack for this trip…and sunglasses were of course included 🙂 .
On board and ready to go!
Side note: look at my cute tee from Amazon! It’s more of a t-shirt material with one shoulder and a fun little knot. It comes in so many colors, but black was my fave!
Our flight landed around 11:30, we checked into our hotel really quickly and then hit the street. It was chilly but nice and sunny!
We were ready to stretch our legs and grab some lunch.
Of course, we had lunch at Joe’s on Newbury because the food is yummy and the street side tables are great for people watching.
Lunch with my little.
After lunch, we strolled and enjoyed the beautiful day.
She was loving all of the grownup time 🙂 . She had so much fun running around the park and checking out the ducks.
We stopped at Starbucks for a little pick me up…
…and then one of us crashed.
We headed back to the hotel to get ready for our game. I thought I’d show you my sweatshirt since it would be covered all night by my jacket…
…it’s my 2018 World Series Champions sweatshirt 🙂 . #makesmesohappy
This was only the second home game of the entire season, annnnnd they were handing out 2018 World Series replica rings to the first 10,000 fans, so we HAD to be there early to grab one of those…
…here we are in line to get inside and get our rings!
Madeley was not having any fun at all 🙂 .
And we’re in! We entered in the Kids Zone where there is just so much to see if you’re a kiddo…like this tall lady right here.
After that, we grabbed dinner…
…Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions for me!
This nugget had chicken fingers.
Next up, Miss Madeley needed a Red Sox sweatshirt for the game…
…she picked this one and was super pumped!
The atmosphere and energy before a Sox game is one of a kind!
Well, hello there banner that shows we won the World Series last year!
Gangs all here!
We found our seats, got cozy and settled in for the night!
We’ve now gone 10 years in a row (and several of those years, we’ve gone more than once!).
She stayed pretty occupied during the game. My mom took her to run around about halfway through, and then she settled back in…with her sucker.
Cheering on the Sox with her Sox bear on her shoulders. 🙂
A walk off for the WIN!!
After this, we headed back and went to sleep. Considering my alarm went off at 3:30 that morning, I was ready for bed!
The next morning…
…we slept in, had Starbucks in the room and then hit the streets!
It was so much fun seeing them set up for the Marathon (just three days later).
A quick little morning shut eye.
My mom and I love the walking and the popping in and out of shops.
She was cozy and HAPPY!
Oh Boston, you are beautiful!
I saw this sign in a shop 😉 .
We stopped for lunch on Charles Street. Isn’t it cute inside?!
We split a grilled cheese sandwich and were very happy about it. I also had…
…their Caprese Salad. I love those so much!!
Mom and Dad 🙂
This was the lunch spot! We really loved it!
More walking!
Later we stopped here for coffee…
…Miss Madeley picked a chocolate croissant and I had…
…a coconut macaroon.
She looks like she’s up to no good right here! Ha! I’m sure they were!!
Later that night, we dropped Lovie and Madeley back at the hotel, so my dad and I could go to the game. They ate pasta and watched Netflix, we hit up Fenway Park one last time…
…like my favorite Sox sweatshirt ever!
We had pulled pork sandwiches and fries for dinner!!
We went to visit our brick! And then…
…found our awesome seats right behind home plate!
It was the perfect night for baseball and another RED SOX WIN!!
The next morning…
…we left our hotel at 5:00 to catch the first flight out of Boston to DFW. We were supposed to have taken off at 7:30 and been back in Dallas at 11:15.
Due to storms in Dallas, we ended up not getting off the plane until 8:15 PM.
Yup, PM.
We sat on the runway in Boston forever, then had to de-plane. Then, we got back on and the pilot told us the safest route was going to Dallas via Canada…so the typical 3½ hour flight was over five hours. Then we landed in Dallas (woohoo!) and sat on the runway 2 hours and 45 minutes. It was honestly comical at that point. I am so thankful that DFW was our final destination and felt HORRIBLE for everyone on board who missed their connecting flights (or their connecting flights were cancelled). I must brag on Madeley because she honestly did AMAZING! We ran out of food at one point, but she was all smiles. She watched movies, took a 2 hour nap and never one time complained. When we finally got off she said “that took a long time”. Haha! Yes, baby, it sure did.
My dad has always done an amazing job making memories through baseball with me, and I hope, that I’m now doing the same. These trips are really precious to us. xo
If you have questions about where we stay, where we eat, or what we do (or have done in the past), you can see it all HERE.

Your trip back makes me want to bawl. But the trip itself sure did look like a blast!
Narci says
What a fun trip!! I’m so glad that you guys were able to go. The pics of you with Madeley and your parents are precious. Also, I love that 2nd Boston sweatshirt! How cute!!
jamiepottle says
Do you take the T to Fenway? Or stay close enough to walk?
Mix and Match Mama says
We find it easier to take it there and then easier to walk back (because after games, it gets sooooo crowded!!!).
Beth K says
Love making memories! I gifted my dad and brother tickets to our favorite team the Steelers two years ago! It was so fun to make memories together that I’m considering making that a reoccurring gift because I enjoyed the time together so much more than simply giving them a gift that we couldn’t all enjoy!
Jennifer says
We are going to Boston in October, what hotels would you recommend so that we can walk to everything?
Mix and Match Mama says
You need to check out my All About Boston post linked at the bottom! I include all of that info!! We find it easy to walk so many places in Boston and when we can’t, the subway is super easy to navigate.
Ashleigh says
Hi Shay,
Love reading your Boston recaps as a MA girl who has since had to moved down south. Also…going the weekend before the marathon was magical I’m sure! Where did you get your grey Sox 1/4 zip from? I’m worried since you didn’t link it, that means I wont be able to snag it. Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I bought it at the big store there inside the stadium on Jersey St.
Shelby says
When does Ashby get her own trip? She does Yankees but does she have a solo trip with Mom coming up, so she does not feel left out? You know Joe’s is a chain, right? 😛
Mix and Match Mama says
Shelby…stay tuned…
Wendy Norton says
Where do you get your tickets? Through StubHub? Or directly through the stadium ticket office?
Mix and Match Mama says
We do both…typically, we can get great seats right through their ticket office, but if we can’t, we turn to StubHub.
Jacqueline says
So sweet! Madely looks like a great travel companion! Did you guys end up getting the replica rings?
Mix and Match Mama says
We did!!! My mom gave hers to Kensington 🙂 .
Alexis deZayas says
So much fun!! You make me feel like I need to be a Sox fan 🙂 How did you become a fan from Texas?!
Mix and Match Mama says
My dad brainwashed me 🙂 .
MT says
What size is the amazon t-shirt you’re wearing
Mix and Match Mama says
Small!
Heidi Kim says
Is your coat North Face? It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for!
Mix and Match Mama says
It is!!!
Heidi Kim says
Do you have a link for it or can you give me the name?
Megan Jeffries says
A friend who lives in Dallas had met me in San Antonio and her flight back got canceled. She ended up having to roadtrip it back with strangers from the plane trying to make it back to Dallas too.
Denise says
PLEASE come back! They aren’t doing well and need your great mojo! I know your dad was the initial fan. Was he a New England native? (Hard to get my brain around a TX native rooting for NE anything LOL.)
Erin Port says
The trip home sounds like one for the books but glad M handled it like a champ! Looks like you had a blast and those sweet memories will always be cherished. Traveling with my family are some of my most cherished memories!
Michelle says
I love that Damage Done sweatshirt! That is the one that I bought when they won! I think that you need to come back because they were winning when you guys were here and now they are not. I love that you are such a huge fan from Texas!!
Amanda Wilson says
Yahoo!! Boston post giving me all the good feels on this blah Wednesday!! Shay you were a lucky charm for the Sox!! I think the plane delays and such were trying to keep you there! I love that your family has such a great mix of one on one time with kids and family time and 2 on one time!! Did you eat a lobster roll?? I loved them so much when I was there!
Mix and Match Mama says
I didn’t have one this time! They are the BEST in New England!!
Sonia says
You have to check out Tatte Bakery next time you’re in Boston! It reminds me a lot of French pastry shops and is just so good!
Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams says
Nothing like a Boston sports team win!!! I love that the Patriots were at the Sox home opener after their ring ceremony! Glad you guys enjoyed!!

I love these posts of yours! It’s so sweet to see the traditions that your parents made with you being carried on to your kiddos!
Kayla A Bruce says
So fun! I’ve never been to Boston, but it looks wonderful. Two somewhat random questions. 1) Does your white dip nail polish ever yellow? The nail technician warned me that might happen if I got it. 2) What is the stroller you bring with you on trips? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
It only has one time…when we went to the beach that day on our Disney Cruise.
Amy says
I’m all for transitions, but we have so many AMAZING restaurants, coffee shops and places to see/visit here in Boston! Have you ever ventured out beyond Joes, Charles St, the Common, Harvard Sq, Copley/Newbury St and Fenway? I’m just saying, there is so much more to see and eat here!
Mix and Match Mama says
I mean, over the years, yes. We’ve done so many of the tours and museums too. We’re not there very long and when we do arrive, we like to be able to just get out and walk. We’re creatures of habit 🙂 .
Mix and Match Mama says
I forgot to add! We did try some place new this time, that cafe on Charles Street and it was excellent!
Clare Butler says
Your Mom is just gorgeous!! It’s so clear where your beauty comes from!
Beth Valenta says
My daughter and I just booked Boston for June when I get out of school! Fenway is a must every year. Loved your B baseball cap! I get a new one every time I go, and just might have to get that one. 🙂 Did not at all like that loss last night!
Ralinn says
I love the red socks on the sweatshirt. It is my favorite Red Socks attire I have seen. It sounds like you did have a great time. The trip back sounds awful. Madeley is a dream traveler.
Cassidy says
I wish everyone could have Madeley’s attitude! I think the world would be a better place 😉
Jenny Alford says
My husband and I went to Boston for our 10 year anniversary back in February. We loved it and I read all of your recomendations before we went, we ate at Joes too! And also I must say, Madely has just the sweetest smile! She always looks so happy! I love that. Thanks for sharing!
Jenna says
Looks like so much fun! Have you ever taken a trip during the marathon? I would love to read a recap of that! I imagine the atmosphere is incredible. I’m sure that was a tough decision to not take Kensington. It’s a great/tough call as a parent. Although, as a teacher, I never discourage a family from missing school for fun experiences! Your kids are so so blessed to be able to travel as much as they do!
Nichole says
You must be the Red Sox lucky charm because when you aren’t there they can’t seem to win! It looks like you had a great time with Miss Madeley and your parents.
Melanie says
Madely is adorable in all of the pics. Everytime you write about Boston, I forget to tell you that my cousin is the General Manager of Grill 23. Have you been there before? I heard it was good, but, I haven’t been there.
Emily Clarke says
Love your Boston posts, makes me miss living there! Next time you should go to Limoncello in the North End and order their specialty (its incredible!): Rosette Al Montasio Ed Olio Di Tartufo (Homemade wide noodles cooked with Prosciutto, Montassio Cheese, Mushrooms & finished in Tomato Cream Sauce with Truffle Oil)!
Tricia says
Hi Shay! Long time follower, love your blog. So silly but what is the pretty pink lipstick you’re wearing?!
Mix and Match Mama says
Ah! Thank you, Tricia! It’s Bobbi Brown Bikini Pink but with the Nars liner Grasse.
Tricia says
Thank you Shay! 🙂
Maura says
Newbury & Charles St. are great but you need to go to local restaurants! Try Tatte Cafe, Lincoln or Loco in Southie- the food is to DIE for. South end has amazing restaurants as well, right by the water too, the atmosphere is contagious! North end Ristorante Fiore, Tiger Mama is actually right by the stadium and is so good. I could go on and on, you’re there so often you should branch out where the locals go! 🙂
Julie says
Hi! I love me all New England teams…MA, born and breed:) can you link to your New Balance sneakers please! I’m glad you and your sweet fam brought us some luck;)
Mix and Match Mama says
You know, they’re from late summer/early fall. I don’t think they’re still out??? Black with rose gold.
Erin says
I just wanted to say thank you! My family visited Boston for the first time a month ago and used so many of your suggestions! We took the Fenway tour, ate at Joe’s on Newbury and even sat at the same table you pictured above at the Boston Common Starbucks! Tell your dad I feel super cool that he and I both sat in the exact same spot!
Mix and Match Mama says
Ah! This made me light up!!! I’m so happy you went, Erin!!
Ahsia says
Looked like a fun trip. My boys have played baseball since they were small, but have just started to show an interest in attending a game. We are starting of small with our local team, but if the interest continues, we play to take them to a MLB game this summer.
Shannon says
Hey, Shay! Can you tell us where those earrings are from in the picture with the black shirt? Thanks!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Those are the wooden ones I love from Nordstrom!
Katie says
I am planning a trip to Boston this spring. Where do you like to stay? I went back and read the previous post about Boston but didn’t see any suggestions on where to stay? Thanks so much.
Mix and Match Mama says
I really like the Marriott at Copley Place because of the location!
Dena Randall says
Hopefully you go back in May for the Colorado Rockies game! You have convinced me, we have to go! Can’t wait!!
Kimberly says
Love all your Boston posts, as it is my hometown. Was just home for a visit last weekend and went to Stephanie’s on Newbury Street for dinner. It was fab! Also discovered the Eataly in the Pru – very cool! Enjoy your next trip to Beantown! Go Sox!
Kristen says
What a fun trip! You and your mama look so much alike!
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
They will love having these memories with you! And I’m sure you’re going to be going on trips with your own grandkids like this someday too! Love the tradition!
Laura says
Love Boston and New England in general but those Red Sox………..Just too many bandwagon fans without ties to the area. Do you ever get Dunkin’ Donuts? I feel like that’s the coffee of choice in Mass.
Mix and Match Mama says
I do! I get it here sometimes too!
Nicole says
Have you ever done a post on how a Texas girl became a Boston Red Sox fan? I’m curious!
Mix and Match Mama says
My dad brainwashed me.:)
