Monday, Monday. (I’m singing that The Mamas and The Papas song out loud right this minute while I type…)
Today, I’m sharing my Summer Beauty Roundup because…I keep telling you guys in passing how much I love my new Colleen Rothschild products, but I’ve yet to do an official skincare post about them. So, I’m going to share that and then remind you what hair products I’m into these days. Just a little beauty for the beginning of your week!
Here we go…starting with my…
…you guys have heard me talk about all of these products before, but today I’ll really break them down. As you can see by the bottles, they’re much loved 🙂 .
In the morning, I always start with a spritz of Kopari’s Coconut Rose Toner. I love to spray this on before I go to the gym or before I start to get ready. I don’t wash my face in the morning unless I’ve worked out. If that’s the case, then I use this to wash my face before spritzing with the toner. Next, I’m still using and loving Vintner’s Daughter (which I told you guys about in the winter). I’m on my second bottle now and don’t see me going back. I add a little bit of this to my face and then give it about a minute before moisturizing. In April, my mom told me how much she loved using Colleen Rothschild products. So many of my friends also use these products, but it was my mom’s ringing endorsement that really prompted me to purchase…and now, I see what all the hype is about. This stuff is amazing! I use her Supreme Eye Serum followed by her Sheer Renewal Cream each morning. Both make my skin feel very HYDRATED (which is like my favorite word to describe any beauty product!). Neither product is heavy or sticky…just the perfect amount of hydrating and moisturizing. After that, I apply my very favorite Mineral Matte Sunscreen and am ready for either nothing (like if I’m hanging around the house or am just going to the pool) or to apply my makeup.
I just saw that Colleen Rothschild is having a BACK TO SCHOOL PROMOTION! With code BACK25, you get $25 off $100 or with code BACK50, you get $50 off $200!
That’s my MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE! (Side note, I’ll do an updated makeup routine soon too!)
At the end of my day, it’s time for my…
…and Colleen Rothschild now owns that 😉 .
Yes, yes, YES to her Radiant Cleansing Balm. This stuff is amazing!!!! You gently massage it over your face and it wipes away even the most stubborn makeup and then leaves your skin feeling so HYDRATED! I hate when I use a cleanser and my skin feels tight afterwards. With this stuff, your skin feels like you just moisturized! So, after I clean off all of my makeup, I then add her Age Renewal Super Serum to my skin and let it sink in a minute (while I brush my teeth). The reviews on her website are what sold me on this one. It’s packed with all sorts of major nutrients, and I honest to goodness think it’s a superhero product. Go read the reviews too! After that, I once again, use her Retinol Supreme Eye Serum and then finish with her Extreme Recovery Cream. Love, love, love. My skin feels moisturized before bed and still feels great the next morning. For like two decades now, I’ve ended every nighttime routine with a pea-sized amount of Retin-A that I get from my dermatologist, so I put that on at the very end.
Now, about twice a week, I also do this to perk up my routine…
…I told you about these Vitamin C Activating Squares earlier in the year, and I continue to be impressed with them. You put one square on your palm, then add a little of this Replenishing Serum + C plus a few drops of water and voila! A magic potion of amazing moisture appears in your hand. I rub that all over my face right after cleansing it (before adding any products), and I’m telling you, my face feels fantastic! After I let it sit about a minute, I proceed with my other evening skincare products. My friend Karla introduced me to this routine, and I love it! If you need help with ordering Mary Kay, Karla is your girl! She’s so knowledgeable!
So, that’s a little skincare, now for some hair care. This time of year, my hair is in its worst form. Between the sun and the chlorine, my hair is dryyyyyyyy, so I’m always looking for hydrating products. Here’s what I’m using right now…
I told you guys earlier this summer that my friend Lauren got me hooked on these Phyto products. They’re free of all that bad stuff and only use the good stuff and all smell amazing (very light scent…like a rain forest). I’m washing with their Intense Hydration Brilliance Shampoo and then following up with their Express Conditioner. About once a week, I’ll use the It’s a 10 Miracle Deep Conditioner instead in the shower and it really gives you a moisture boost! After I comb out my wet hair, I add a big dollop of their Phyto 7 cream and then use it again once my hair is dry before I apply any heat. I love, love, love Moroccanoil, but have been substituting with this recently and am really pleased. My favorite hairspray has been Money Maker for years. I don’t think it dries out my hair nor makes it crunchy.
I’ve been washing and letting my hair air dry either over night or during the day and then, I run my Revlon dryer (most amazing gadget EVER!) through it to smooth it out before using my T3 Curling Iron with the 1½” clip.
That’s my Summer Routine right now! I alter my routine as the weather changes, but for now, these are holding strong!
What’s your number one go-to product this time of year??? I’m always excited to try new beauty products! I’d love to try something new!! Comment and share please!!

I always love reading your beauty posts! They are so helpful and your skin and hair always look amazing so I know the products work! Right now I’ve been using LimeLife products! They are great! I really like their face wash Dream Clean Aloe & Soapberry. I really like that all their products are free of harsh chemicals. I haven’t disliked anything I’ve tried!
Mix and Match Mama says
I love, love, love their lemon face scrub mask thing. Just used it for the hundredth time last night!!
Sheaffer Sims says
I love these type of posts!!!!! And I think it’s cool that you’re not married to a brand, just using what you like across several different brands!

I absolutely love every Colleen Rothschild product I’ve ever tried! My skin has never felt better. My faves are the radiant cleansing balm, sheer renewal cream, and extreme recovery cream. ❤️❤️

I love Eufora hair products. They have a leave-in repair serum here (https://amzn.to/2SWIcqR). My favorite of their products though is the dry texturizing spray (https://amzn.to/311tK3k)! Euphora claims to use more than 100 plant and flower extracts, essential oils and vitamins, but at the very least, their products smell AMAZING!!
Melissa says
Thanks for sharing your current skincare favs! I love the Kopari coconut rose water too, and so do my two little girls! If i didn’t keep it tucked away they’d be trying to get their hands on it all day!
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
Does the CR cleansing balm also take off your eye makeup? And I’ve recently started using a purple hair masque in the shower. It keeps my blonde hair soft and keeps it from turning brassy!

All of it!!! Without irritation 🙂 .

Any product recommendations for the dreaded lines that are starting to appear on my chest after sleeping?!
Becky Carl says
I have found Colleen Rothschild on Amazon a little less expensive than the website. Love the cleansing balm, very similar to Eve Lom.

I’ve been alternating between Phyto and Living Proof shampoo. I can’t use Phyto for every wash because it makes my hair crazy soft to the point I can do nothing with it! I have super dry hair and after years of buying It’s a 10, made the switch to Olaplex leave-in. I try to use a few times a month. I leave it overnight and sleep with a shower cap on. Olaplex is amazing!
Dawn says
2-3 times a month, I slather my hair with coconut oil, then shampoo TWICE with Redken All Soft, followed by Olaplex no. 5 conditioner. Makes my hair so soft and shiny!
Mix and Match Mama says
Sheaffer swears by that Redken All Soft too!!
Jill says
Unfortunately, all these products are priced way over what my budget allows.
Amy Azza says
Jill, same with me! CR has a 25% coupon I found online and I was able to get two of the products Shay recommend with that coupon if that helps you.
Jill says
Thanks so much Amy. I’ll check it out!

Check out the YouTube channel of Dr. Dray. She is dermatologist who thoroughly explains various skin conditions and daily skincare routines and recommends products (drug-store) to use and why they are effective. She also frequently cites the supporting science/research.
Audrey says
Are you not using La Mer anymore? Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
I used my whole jar and decided that I really love the CR so much more!
Maryann Keller says
A product I can’t live without is Aveda Brilliant Emollientf Finishing Gloss. You run just a small drop through your finished style and it adds shine and smooths like no other. Great for textured hair, too. Every time I try something else, I come back to this. And the scent is out of this world!
Jenn says
In true “Jenn reads Mx&MatchMama and buys everything she recommends” fashion, I went and added all of the Colleen Rothschild products you recommended to my cart. Then I googled to see if I could find a promo code and TRY25 takes 25% off your cart total! Just a little (big) perk to ordering today!
Mix and Match Mama says
Look at you, Jenn!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!!!!
Ahna @Hammers N Hugs says
Thanks Jenn! Just used that code on the cleansing balm!
Jeni says
I love these posts….I’ve been eyeing the Vinter’s Daughter for months. I love Phyto but I just can’t quit my Kerastas!

Would you do a post of what Andrew does for his skin care routine sometime? These posts are great, but my husband has crazy dry skin (I do not, my skin doesn’t even soak in lotion, lol). I am always buying him products that I see reviewed on blogs but it’s always for women…just curious if you knew of any great products are out there for men.
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s a great idea!
Jessica Tribbett says
Will have to try some of these! Do you still use Beauty Counter?
Mix and Match Mama says
I do! I still really love their Vitamin C!
Serena Welch says
I have recently discovered Vitamin Enriched Face Base by Bobbi Brown. It’s a primer PLUS moisturizer in one product and it’s amazing! Absorbs quickly with a slight orange/citrus smell – SO GOOD!!!!!!

Hi Shay! Off topic, but anyone have thoughts on cutting the cable cord and switching to streaming? We love the Hallmark channels and don’t want to lose those especially with all the new fall and Christmas content right around the corner!!
Ranisa Brletich says
A few years ago I started using Morocanoil shampoo and condition. I loved it. We then moved into a house with one shower and I didn’t want to have a ton of bottles in the shower. My girls and I were on a hunt for a shampoo and condition that we all loved. We have given up. I tried the matrix one you were using and we all hated it. My hair is dry and breaking after trying living proof. How does the phyto shampoo compare to Moracanoil? I like the fact that the phyto doesn’t have silicones in it.
Leah Reinemund says
Hey Shay! Something to maybe add to your routine year round is collagen peptides! Vital Proteins has some greats ones (sold on Amazon, Whole Foods, Ulta…)! This is great for your hair and skin!! I have noticed a SIGNIFICANT different in my skin and hair since I started routinely adding this to my diet 🙂
Alicia says
Great post! Do you prefer the CR cleansing balm to the Beauty Counter one?
Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I think I do. I love both, but that CR one is just incredibly hydrating.
Morgan Godbold says
Olaplex Number 3 treatment is amazing! Especially for color treated blondes! It rebuilds the bonds in your hair that the bleach takes away! I’ll wash my hair with a clarifying shampoo (especially if I haven’t washed in 5 plus days). Then apply to damp hair and leave it on for at least 30 minutes. Then get back in and shampoo and condition as normal.
L’ange (langehair.com) is also an amazing brand! They have a crazy Black Friday in July sale going on right now so I just stocked up on products. I love, deja vu dry shampoo (it’s is clear and light weight) , salt and sea spray, rival heat shield, manage marula oil hydrating mist, I mix the sorbet and the satin nectar together and apply it when my hair is wet! I also love posh which is great when my hair is wet or dry but I like that it calms frizz and I apply it to my ends (mixed with the satin nectar) closer to hair wash day (I go 5-7 days in between) when they are dryer. Their products are so good, they moisturize but don’t make your hair feel like it has too much product in it! They’re made with ingredients that actually help your hair and smell amazing too!
Also, as a Florida blonde, our water is hard and has a high concentration of iron and sulfur in it. Those minerals get deposited on your hair when you shower, so I have to use a purple shampoo each wash because otherwise I look more of strawberry, orangey brassy blonde. It makes my blonde more icey and less yellow. It doesn’t leave the color, it just is a form of a toner. So you won’t have purple hair! The best product I’ve found is IGX Mixed Feelings, Leave-In Blonde Drops, I get it at Sephora. It’s the concentrated toner/pigment and you can just add drops in your hand to your favorite shampoo and conditioner! This way you still get the great quality of your other favorite products, but the toning benefits of a purple one!

Thank you so much!!!!! This comment is EVERYTHING! I appreciate all of your insight!

What do you (and/or your friends) do for humidity? I just moved to Texas and my hair is out of control! Help! ( :
Mix and Match Mama says
Wear it up! Oh my gosh! It’s a losing battle. On really humid days, my hair goes up. If it’s me verses humidity, it wins every time. Welcome to Texas 😉 .
Susan says
Try Living Proof No Frizz products. I have long, super thick hair that would frizz like crazy in the summer. Now I use the shampoo, conditioner (with Olaplex once a week) and finish with the LP No Frizz cream then dry my hair with the Revlon brush/hairdryer and my hair is so smooth all day!
Mary says
SuperGoop also has a daily correct CC Cream, I use that as my foundation during the summer. I would say it is medium coverage, feels great on my skin!
mary mathews says
love, love, love your skincare and haircare posts!!!!
would love to see a skincare posts from your mom!!! i’m closer to her age!
thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
She uses only CR now! It’s what made me make the switch!!
Andrea Thornton says
Loved the post, but I am confused. I thought you used Beautycounter and raved about those products not too long ago. Do you still use them?
Chane says
I loooove these kinda posts.
How often do you try new products and do you find it working to switch so often?
Mix and Match Mama says
I try to not ever change everything at once. Like with CR for instance. I ordered three things (cleanser, day moisturizer and eye serum) but kept everything else the same and then slowly, added more stuff. I love playing around with new beauty products.
Sarah says
At what age did you really start taking care of your skin by buying more “luxury” items?
Mix and Match Mama says
I started using Retin-A per my mother’s suggestion at like 20. I started going to the dermatologist on a regular basis at 30 (my grandmother told me to at my 30th birthday, ha!). I’ve always loved playing around with beauty products, but probably really got more into it around 30 as well.
Anna says
I know you’re supposed to drag products you use down to your neck and chest area, do you do that when you use retin A?
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t use much, but I do try and get some down my neck if I have any left over. That goes for all of the products.
Emily says
Retin- A destroys my face! Like, even the smallest amount basically peels the top layer of my skin off and it takes at least a week for my skin to recover, sometimes longer. 🙁 Thankfully, my breakouts have lessened since I stopped wearing liquid foundation. I recently ordered the huge container of CR cleansing balm when it was on sale, I’m excited to try it! Do you use yours with the provided cloth? If you use the CR cloth, how do you care for it? My favorite AM face wash is the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser for normal to oily skin. I’ve never had BAD acne before, but I was always prone to breakouts, so I thought I’d try different acne regimens and I think that did more harm than good. I think I was using too much salicylic acid. I am slowly but surely figuring out what works best for my skin. Next on my list is finding a good serum. I’ve been using Lancome Advanced Genifique Sensitive but I’m not overly impressed with it.
Mix and Match Mama says
I do! I just toss them in the wash with my whites! I love that stuff so much!!
