On Shay’s blogging calendar “blog recap of JW Marriott with the Slaughters“.
On Shay’s phone…three pictures from the four nights they were there.
Now, on Shay’s actual blog…three pics and no good excuse for a lame post other than she was having too much fun to stop and get her phone out.
Sigh.
Friends, it’s the first week of school! We don’t actually start this year until Thursday. It’s a weird end-of-the-week start date, but I’m kind of diggin’ it. We’ll get two full days in and then have the weekend to recover from it all. All of our “fall” things start today though! Our new sports schedules, our new speech schedule, and so on begins NOW, so even though we’re technically still in summer, we’re already back in fall mode.
This last week, we drove down to San Antonio for our annual stay at the JW Marriott with the Slaughters on Tuesday afternoon (we arrived around 6:30 that night) and stayed until Saturday morning (we drove back suuuuuper early to be home in time for Kensington’s volleyball tournament and Narci’s 40th birthday party!). It was three full days of playing with the kiddos, sleeping in a little bit and eating some really yummy food. We look forward to this trip every year! This year though, I failed in the picture department. I didn’t even get a single pic of any Slaughter! #sigh Here are the three pics I have…
After a fun day by the pool (from like 10 to 6), we ate dinner and then let the kids run around outside with the other families and eat s’mores by the campfire. I looooooooove these summer days with my family!!
Did someone say s’mores?! Madeley was all about roasting her own marshmallows!
And a random selfie to finish us off 🙂 . I’ve had the best summer with my family! Even though I love fall so much, I always miss this togetherness we get over the summer.
Alrighty roo! I’m off for today!! I’ll see you guys back here tomorrow. One quick thing before I go though…
…I have my Meal Planning Monday Back to School Week edition up today!

I am getting so jealous of how much time your husbands can take off work for all the trips this summer! How do they manage that???
Mix and Match Mama says
He’s self-employed. It comes with perks…and some not-so-perks 😉 .

So fun!! Random question, what do you order at a hibachi dinner?? ??
Mix and Match Mama says
That is random! Almost always chicken and shrimp with fried rice!

I hope this isn’t inappropriate to comment on but Ashby’s hand looks great! I hope she is getting some relief after her latest procedure ❤️

Thank you for checking on her well being! This last one was the worst…but she seems to be in a great place right now!!

The amount of pictures taken is usually the inverse of how much you (the mom) chilled and relaxed. “Looks” like you had a great time and got some relaxing in! Have a great first week of school!

I’m curious, as you’ve traveled so much this summer, and relaxation, swimming and eating seemed to be the agenda of this most recent trip, why not enjoy the time with family at home? You have a huge house, a pool, nice backyard. A perfect place to relax before school starts.

I think we had 10 weeks of summer this year, so that gave us lots of time to be at home. Those days just don’t always make it on my blog.

I love the idea of “one last hurrah” of summer! I don’t know if a mom (or dad!) can truly relax and be on vacay mode in their own home. There’s always some kind of tidying up, laundry, chore etc. Having an escape from that, with the help of room/maid service on the daily…that’s my idea of true relaxation with my family. And then, let the crazy schedules begin!

Hi Shay, I’m so glad you had a great summer. When I get stressed out about having my first baby (Due in December) I turn to your blog and it shows me all of the fun things I get to look forward to. I am always telling my husband “Shay takes her family here so we are doing this too haha). It ALWAYS outweighs the things I am nervous about. I just LOVE and ADORE your family to pieces.

So fun! I love seeing pictures of your vacations but I’m so happy you were having so much fun you forgot to take pics! Starting school on a Thursday is the BEST! Gives you a two-day introduction then you can recuperate on the weekend and head back into it full swing the next week. As a former teacher, I always loved starting on a Thursday because it helped soooo much with lesson plans! Two days of fun and learning rules then you could dive into academics the next week.
