Hey, hey, FRIDAY!
Anyone else excited about the weekend? I sure am! In the meantime, I’m linking up with my girls Erika, Narci and Andrea and sharing my favorite things from the week starting with…
…Kensington is doing so much better!!
Thank you so much for all of your sweet messages and comments. She is finally starting to get back to herself. I just love this 11 year old so much!! Side note, so many of you asked me about her booties. We gave them to her for her birthday. Aren’t they cute?! You can find them HERE (they also come in black!).
My grandmother and my aunt have been doing BSF for over 30 years now, and I always told myself that when all of my kids were in school full time, I would start too…so, guess what? I did! We just completed our first full week and I loved it! For those of you who don’t know, BSF is a nationwide Bible study where you meet once a week (day time or they do have evening classes) have a discussion group, listen to a lecture based on the Bible “homework” you had over the week and then are given another week’s worth of Bible studying to do when you leave (to study for the next week’s discussion group and lecture). I’ve always loved Bible studies, but have heard amazing things about BSF, so I am really excited to be in it this year! Is anyone else out there doing it right now? I’m so happy that my first year is the study of Acts as that’s one of my favorite books. Anyway, Erika is doing it too and so far, I’m really enjoying the whole process.
Loft and I have been having a moment. I bought these two tops the other day and have already worn them both twice. And right now, I saw that they’re both 40% off!!
How cute are those sleeves?! This top is very fall without being bulky and hot.
Super cute, right? Side note: I’ve been living in those flats!
And then look at this one! This will pair nicely with a jacket when the weather cools down. Both are 40% off!
Speaking of tops…
…another little Amazon find 🙂 . Sometimes, finding tops on Amazon is hard for me. I ordered four when I ordered this one arrived and only kept this green one and returned the other three. BUT when I do find one I love, I really love them (and the price!). This top comes in approximately 4 billion colors, but I thought the green was my fave. I bought it in a small, but it does run a little big. I am wearing it with jeans and my booties, but you could totally wear it with leggings too as I think it’s long enough!
And then, hello OCTOBER…
…I am in love with this light little orange top. It comes in several other solids, but my heart belonged to this orange one. Won’t I look festive at October events? Yes, ma’am! (Pssst: my booties are HERE from last year, and I still love them so much!!)
Well, this has to be a favorite of mine…
…even though it involves the Yankees. Sigh. Chad Green is a pitcher for the NY Yankees and his sweet wife reached out to me and asked if she could mail me something…and it was an autographed baseball. How sweet is that?! I took this pic the minute I opened the box and handed it to them. Per usual, they each had something “Yankees” on at the exact moment. This baseball MADE my 9 year old boy’s life. Let’s be honest, it made my 38 year old boy’s life too 😉 . I thought that was so cool!!
Oh hey there cuties…
…my little bow heads wanted you to know that one of our favorites this week is that my cousin Casey (who owns One Stop Bow Shop) is letting all of my readers have 30% off their entire order with promo code SHAY! Whether you want solid bows, fun patterns, holiday bows, fall bows, small bows, big bows…all the bows are at her shop and 30% off for YOU!! Just for a reference, my girls all wear her size XL Jumbo. Happy bow shopping!!
And last but certainly not least, an easy and delicious recipe for your weekend breakfast/brunch! My Ham & Cheddar Breakfast Casserole will make the whole family happy!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! See you guys on Monday!! xo

Love that you are doing BSF! I’ve heard great things about it!

I loved BSF – I am sure you will be blessed by this study group and the women in the group. I started with Acts probably almost 20 years ago and stayed committed to each year’s study. You will not be disappointed. If I was not working full time now and would join again!

Oh my goodness! That picture of Ashby and Madeley!!!!!! SO CUTE!
Erika Slaughter says
Ugh! Think there’s any possible way this protein bar I’m about to eat might taste like that breakfast casserole?

Cute outfits but aren’t you guys roasting?? It’s got to be 90 degrees plus where you live!!

I have been privileged to study with BSF for almost 15 years. I have the blessing of taking our three young sons this year to study Acts! It’s a sweet blessing to do my ‘homework’ alongside them and speak aloud God’s Word.

This is my 4th year in BSF. Their children’s program is awesome! I love that my 2 year old is learning the same lesson and truths as me.
P.S. I love your blog!!! ?

Love that you are doing BSF!! I am the Teaching Leader for a class in Arakansas! Being a partnod that community has been such a gift!!
Suzie says
BSF is great. It’s just so amazing what being in Gods Word does in your life. It’s like setting the compass straight so everything else can fall into place. It’s transformational even if you’ve read the passage 100 times before. Hope you enjoy it!
Ally says
I love BSF and am doing the Acts study now!

The bar necklaces that Ashby and Kensington are wearing in recent pictures, are these from Stella and Dot?
Mix and Match Mama says
They are!! They were mine when they were both babies, but I recently gave them to them to wear 🙂 .

Are you growing your hair out? It’s getting so long! So pretty!!

I started BSF in the mid 90s when my kids were little. I stopped after going through 7 years. I went back a few years ago to the night classes. My husband went up until last year. We are now doing a couples study called CBS. Both are extremely great studies. I think BSF is a little more intense.
It looks like Kensington is really enjoying volleyball. I’m glad she found something she loves.
Happy Friday!

Where are Kinsingtons jeans from??

Love this! My grandma loves BSF too! I’ve always said I wanted to join in once my kiddos are all in school too! I’m so glad you’re loving it! I know you’ve blogged about this before but where do you buy Ashby and Madeley’s clothes, like the dress and leggings they’re wearing in the pic above. I always love how they’re matching. My daughter is just starting to fit into 2T clothing. 🙂

Big time BSF fan here!!! I take my two year old and three week old to a day class now, which has been such a blessing to do together after going years myself. The structure and accountability is right up my alley; I love the “heartwork” ❤️? So glad to hear you are doing it as well!!! You’re going to continue to love it.
Kim C says
Such cute tops! I was getting into the long sleeved, sweater mood because the weather had been in the low 70s for weeks and now today the high is 90 =[
Glad Kensington is feeling better! But why does she look so old in that picture?!?!
Pam says
I am so glad Kensington is getting better from whatever allergy she had–I deal with allergies all the time (the kind that cause the itching, swelling, whelps, rashes, etc.). I was wondering if you ever figured out what was causing her reactions. There are so many foods I cannot eat, especially anything with eggs. That means I also can’t ever get flu vaccines since some kind of protein from eggs are used in flu vaccines (or at least that is what I have been told). Also, any kind of dairy effects me the same way as you described the symptoms Kensington had. I really feel bad for her & hope she does not have any of those reactions again–bless her heart, really. It’s a scary thing.
Also, I love baseball & watch many teams & follow players as they move from team to team. I am excited to see what your son does in the future with his love for baseball.
Love your new top recommendations–you wear them all so well & everything looks so cute on you!
Hope you & your family have a great weekend!

I love BSF! I did it for 12 years and was a group leader too. I stepped back when I had my daughter but just got in this year for Acts. I have done this study before but it has been rewritten so I can’t wait to see what God has for me this time around. ?
Christy says
Love Kensington’s jeans! Are those the Hudson ones?
Mix and Match Mama says
I thought they were Gap…but maybe they’re not???

So happy K is feeling better! Would you mind sharing where her cardigan is from in the first picture? I’m always looking for good layering pieces like that for my girls but can never find things other then basic button up cardigans!
Mix and Match Mama says
I really think that’s Old Navy!! If not, Gap!
Julie says
Chad and Jenna are from my hometown! So awesome!
Kathy says
So glad to hear Kensington is feeling much more herself! She looks happy and cute in her new birthday Toms. 🙂
Hope you all have a fantastic weekend before the official first day of Fall (9/23)!
Jill says
Yes! BSF has been such a blessing in my life…sometimes I just have to remind myself it’s not about getting all my “homework” done (I never did in school either?) but it’s about growing deeper in my relationship with Christ. It’s such an encouragement to sit alongside other women from other denominations and to know we are all learning and growing. I brought my grandson to their Children’s Program and I would highly recommend that to any mamas or grandma’s…it is SO good! And in case anyone reading this is interested…just know you can join at any time throughout the year!?
Christina Adamson says
I loveee BSF! I started four years ago and it has grown and strengthened my faith SO much!! I pray it’s as big of a blessing to you as it is to me!!
Mindy says
It’s my first year doing BSF as well, and the Acts study is so good, the lectures so great, and just wonderful to keep me in the Word more as I need it. I’m hoping my husband will get to check it out! Happy Friday!
Mindy Amick says
There is an Etsy shop called Mustard Seed Journals, she is from McKinney. She just made a BSF journal. You might want to look at that and add it to your study! She’s awesome!
Maggie says
So glad that Kensington is feeling better! I had a thought while reading your blog the other day on how she was mis-diagnosed with poison ivy. I had a very similar thing happen to me and my dermatologist kept wanting to treat it as a skin condition, turned out I have severe food allergies. It causes a very similar reaction all throughout my body, swollen face, red, itchy – also symptoms of skin allergies. Anyway I felt funky leaving this comment on someone’s blog, but felt impressed to throw it out there. Also, do you still have the link for those wedge sneakers? They’re so cute!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I should have included that! I will go back and edit it bc I do love those booties so much! https://shopstyle.it/l/8ebh

I love your blog!! I have two Korean born daughters, now 35 and 26! When I see your precious Ashby and Madely, I sometimes just giggle as it brings back so many wonderful memories when our girls were little:) My Hannah was a little stinker linker like Madely, so many cute expressions!!! I love the way beautiful Ashby is always wearing bracelets, fashionable like her Mama! Kensington and Smith are so precious…we had a son “pop up” in the middle of the 2 girls and he too is a sports nut, he is a college basketball coach and my girls love to support their brother. I did BSF for many years, and was a children’s leader. The whole thing is terrific, and glad you and Erika are going! So neat to see young moms like you who love Jesus and care for your families and homes so much!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Awe!! Thank you, Suzie!!
Christy says
Hi Shay! Do your girls wear any of the headbands from One Stop Bow Shop? My 5 yo keeps complaining that her headbands hurt so I was wondering how these fit! Thanks!!
Mix and Match Mama says
My girls haven’t tried their headbands before. We’re such bow people over here. I’m sorry!

I love your brother’s support of World Vision’s “Chosen” Campaign. I actually thought of your family when I saw this video: https://youtu.be/BGCD9BGW-ko Maybe this will make your favorites list next week? It has really touched me.

This is my first year of BSF, too! So I’m doing with with you all the way in Oman! Isn’t that awesome? I’m from Houston now living in the Middle East and have the opportunity and privilege to be apart of BSF and I couldn’t be more excited! Yay!
Lindsay Boyles says
I love BSF!!! I’ve done a lot of amazing bible studies, but BSF takes the cake. The homework is really thought provoking and I love the weekly reading. I’d never done a study quite like BSF where it takes scripture line by line the way it does. I’m super excited about the Acts study!

Love your blog! Where are the little girls’ orange dresses from? Thank you!

My husband was a BSF group leader and an assistant teaching leader for a men’s group in Dallas. We’ve since moved, so he has gone back to attending only. Our daughter, who is in 1st grade, attends the kids program with him. She LOVES it and it’s such a special time for them. I’ve done the women’s group off and on. It’s a huge commitment but is also incredibly rewarding. Glad to hear you have joined!!
Susie says
Another BSF-er here! My first year we studied Genesis, and I learned more about God, Jesus, and the whole Bible that one year, than I had in 20-plus years in church! It’s life changing! Love it.
BF says
Hi Shay! This is my 4th year doing BSF, I have really loved it every year. The kids program is amazing and they actually extended it last year to include a homeschool program that has classes through 4th grade, what a blessing for us homeschooling mamas!! My 2nd Grader has homework (much shorter than our adult homework! Ha) and her homework coincides with my homework so it’s been awesome discussing it!
Beth says
Could you share more about where you shop for Kensington? I have a daughter the same age and struggle with finding things that are appropriate for her without getting to ‘baby-ish” and not be too teen-like either. I frequently stick to Old Navy, JCrew and Cat&Jack, but I’d love to branch out!
Mix and Match Mama says
Lately, I would say that almost everything she’s wearing is from Gap or Old Navy. Sometimes, she likes Boden too!!
Lindsay says
I love that you shared about BSF, it is an incredible ministry! I am a group leader here in FL and love knowing that women all over the world are studying the same thing each week!

I love the idea of BSF!! The tops from Loft are so pretty.

I had a friend do BSF and loved it!! I just finished Crash the Chatterbox by Steven Furtick and highly recommend it! I’m currently reading The Holy Spirt and Introduction by John Bevere. I know you’ve done a post in the past about your morning quiet time, doing the gratitude journal, you’d did the one year Bible but do you think you could make one with how it’s changed or evolved since then? Do you know of any different Bible study recommendations or books that have given you inspiration or changed your perspective. How do you use the Bible app on your phone? I love it and the reading plans, but want to make sure I’m getting the most out of it! I’m really diving deeper, starting my day with Jesus and continuously in prayer with the Holy Spirit to guide me through the day. I just crave more knowledge… Crash the Chatterbox really opened my eyes to how easy that is, and the devil is our constant enemy, but we have to fight him! Your faith has always been an inspiration to me, and I’d love if you can share some of your wisdom!
Mix and Match Mama says
All great questions! Okay, I love doing Bible studies in the morning. I went through the One Year Bible one and a half times (I stopped halfway through the second year in order to do a study). My favorite Bible study author is Beth Moore. I love all of her studies! I’ve done The Patriarchs the most (three times), but they’re all really good! I would probably suggest starting with Breaking Free. Right now, I’m doing my BSF work during my quiet time. We’re studying Acts, so that’s what I read and studied this morning. I love the YouVersion Bible app! You can search studies on there, so let’s say you wanted to do a daily Bible study about parenting, just search for that and I bet thousands would pop up (or you could search anxiety, worry, marriage, lack of faith, etc). I hope this helps!

A couple little tricks I’ve found when shopping for clothes on Amazon. ONLY buy things that are PRIME, 4 Stars and Up, and if you go through the Prime Wardrobe search the quality is always really good (you can purchase everything directly from Prime Wardrobe – you don’t have to do the try it first deal).
Becky says
BSF is amazing! You will certainly grow in you love of God and understanding of scripture this year. It’s my 3 year in BSF and I’m actually running out brand new daytime school program. It’s such a blessing in my and my kids lives!
Carli Patton says
Hey Shay! I’m a long time reader and had to weigh in on BSF. I’ve been doing BSF in Nashville, TN since my oldest daughter (now 8) was 6 months old. I was so isolated as a new mom and really found a home at BSF. All 4 of my kids have gone with me to BSF–including my 4th who is 3-months-old 🙂 I felt the call into leadership a few years ago and have had the privilege of being in that circle of ladies for 3 years. I went to a Christian elementary, JH, and HS and still feel like BSF has given me a more in-depth experience with the Bible than I had during that entire time span. I am a huge huge fan of how much it empowers women to dive into the word. I am an even bigger fan of how much they care for children in their children’s program. I’m sure you will get a chance to volunteer in your group and see it first hand, but I was blown away by how special my children’s experiences have been with BSF. As you study, I would be super interested in hearing how you go about your lessons–all at once, once a day, etc. Have you tried the app?!–it is rocking my world bc I can do my lesson in the pick up line, at the doctor, and everywhere in between. I am so excited for you and the start of your BSF experience 🙂
