Happy Monday, friends!
Anyone else?
Anyone?
Just me?
That’s okay.
Any minute now, Hobby Lobby will pull those pumpkins off the top shelf, and I’ll go hang out with them for a bit each day 🙂 .
Okay on to today’s post…last week was a blur. We had the flood, we had the MRI and then my week ended with a funeral on Saturday, so yeah…not our most upbeat week over here.
Today, I was going to publish my JUNE BOOK REVIEW, but I’m not quite done with my final book, so I’m going to finish it up this week and post that review on THURSDAY. Anyone else excited?! I’m SO excited to talk about all of my books this month and chat about our four book club books. Since I’m not done reading and so many of you want a house update, I thought we could cover a variety on this Monday starting with…
…thank you so much for praying for Ashby during her MRI. WE NEEDED IT. Geez. It was really hard. She came out all smiles, but I sobbed like a baby watching her in there. It was a yucky day. A yucky week. A yucky year (can I just say that too?). She is totally fine, but there was about an hour there when I thought she would be scarred for life. I’m so thankful for sweet family and friends who prayed for us all morning because we certainly needed it. We were not prepared for the un-sedated MRI. At all. It’s no one’s fault, we just were not prepared. That being said, when it was all over, she said she’d do it again versus going under general anesthesia. Andrew didn’t go with us to this MRI because simultaneously, movers were at our house moving everything off the first floor. I called him though sobbing (while Ashby was in the MRI machine and couldn’t hear me), and I must have sounded really bad because when we got home, they had dropped what they were doing, gotten Ashby her favorite lunch, Kensington made her a g-free cake and they had a big banner up that said Ashby is so Brave. I mean to tell you..SHE IS!!! Thank you again so much for praying.
This right here has been my quote this last week…
…honestly, the whole staircase seems very overwhelming right now, so I just keep taking it one step at a time.
Here’s what we know:
1: On Wednesday night and Thursday morning, we packed up our first floor (we were able to leave some kitchen things so we can kind of cook), but everything in the breakfast nook, family room, master bedroom, master bath, master closet, guest bathroom and patio was boxed up.
2: On Friday, movers came and moved out all of the boxes and furniture to be stored until our house is put back together.
3: Which leads me to “when do you think your house will be back to normal?”. Guess-timates vary, but my gut says November 1st (I really hope it’s sooner though!!!). You better believe I can decorate for fall around chaos, people. 😉
4: So many of you want to know where we’re living and what that looks like…and last week, we ran through all of our options. After talking to everyone involved, we’ve decided to stay in our house and live upstairs during this as it’s easier than moving out six people and three dogs to a temporary place especially considering that none of our kids’ stuff is damaged and their rooms are still perfectly intact. Other than a few non-consecutive weeks, we should be able to stay. They have told us that there are a few weeks in there where we won’t be able to live at home, so we’ll find some place to go during that period.
5: Andrew and I each took all of our stuff to a kid’s room with whom we now lovingly refer to as “our roommate”. I moved all of my clothes and stuff to Kensington’s room, and Andrew moved his stuff to Smith’s. Andrew decided after about 5 minutes that I had the better roommate. Ha! He was like “his room smells like a boy”, and I’m like “good luck with that, Andrew!”. We’re just showering and changing in our roommates’ rooms and then sleeping on our Sleep Number bed which was moved to a new location in the house from our bedroom (because we love that thing!). That being said, Smith has the better roommate. On Friday, I kept telling Smith to put away his laundry, and he kept saying “Mom, I don’t have any.” and I kept saying “Yes you do, I put it on your bed”. Well, we went round and round until finally Andrew heard us and said “Oh, I couldn’t stand seeing that around, so I put it all away.”. Smith scored with the neat freak “roommate”.
6: Demo starts today! They’re coming in and ripping out everything (floors, walls, ceilings, counters, cabinets, doors, windows…EVERYTHING all the way back to the studs, and then once they know it’s all dry, they’ll start putting it back together.
So, what exactly happened?
Well, for starters, it wasn’t supposed to have rained.
That’s the very first thing everyone has said.
It wasn’t supposed to have rained on Friday night…but it did..and it rained for 10 straight hours. I don’t have any videos or pictures because in the moment, I was trying as hard as I could to keep my house from flooding, but the temporary roof we had (while the new construction was happening) didn’t hold and therefore, it rained all in my house. When I say “it rained”, I mean IT POURED inside my house. For ten hours. It was raining in my closet, raining in my bedroom…raining everywhere. There was rain coming out of the beams in my living room (because they were soaking wet), rain running down walls, rain pouring from ceiling fans, light fixtures, the speaker system…rain coming through the walls under the floors. My floor outlets were completely flooded because water was coming from everywhere. It was raining. So many people were there trying to get the flooding to stop, but it was just too much. My patio buckled due to the weight of the rain…it was such chaos. I am SO THANKFUL that we were home!!! Since we were home, we were able to save our rugs, window treatments, furniture, clothes…all of that. We had to work quickly, but because we were home, we saved all of that. I’m ready for demo today because that just means forward progress, right? I’m anxious to get this stuff out and start working on rebuilding.
Whew.
Enough for one day?
In the meantime, I now have to repaint my entire first floor…and even though I love Sherwin-Williams Kilim-Beige, I want a fresh color for a fresh start. If you have suggestions, I will gladly take them!! I prefer Sherwin-Williams paint if possible!! Please feel free to comment and share or email me your favorite paint colors.
Don’t forget, we moved Let’s Look to this Wednesday, so if you link up, please blog that day!
Love you guys! See you tomorrow! I have to go read now 😉 .
Sarah says
My husband and I just painted parts of our home Sherwin-Williams Alabaster and Seq Salt. We love those paint choices from SW!
Mary says
We love Sea Salt in our new living room!
Lynette says
Is insurance covering your loss?
Mix and Match Mama says
Thankfully, yes, it is.
Sara says
Sea salt is so relaxing! It’s in my kitchen and 2 baths and I can just breathe deep sighs of relief with that color!
Jen T says
My master bedroom is sea salt and I love it! Very tranquil color.
Deena says
I love sea salt but it can look so different depending on your light. In some houses it looks more of a green but in our last house, it was a shade of blue. I had tested it in one spot but turned out way different from what I expected, which was a shade of gray.
That sounds so crazy! I’m so glad you could save so much. I had visualized you & Andrew in a guest room upstairs. Good luck with everything!
Ricki Constable says
I painted my entire house with SW Repose Gray and love it!!!
Kelly Davis says
Sea salt is a long time favorite of mine, too. We have it in two areas, one at 50% saturation, and it is so soothing.
Shelly Nutt says
I also painted my house in S-W Alabaster and I really like it. It works well with grays and beiges and isn’t too white.
Jordan says
I’m so very sorry, Shay. Were your new kitchen updates all safe or will they need redone again? Also, can you use your guest bedroom for sleeping?
Mix and Match Mama says
My kitchen floors are coming up, my bar is being removed (there is too much damage underneath it) and everything is being painted again. We can sleep in the guest room for now, but those floors are being ripped up too and it will be repainted as well, etc.
Lindsey says
I am so sorry about your house!! You are humbly downplaying what a nightmare that must have been. I hope the progress will move quickly for you!
Kate says
I couldn’t agree more! Shay what a nightmare this must be for you! I do admire your positive attitude. I’ll be praying for you and your sweet family ❤️
Emily says
I like revere pewter as a paint color. I think it is a Benjamin Moore color but you can get it made with Sherwin Williams paint. Never knew that until a couple years ago. They have all the colors in that little machine so don’t limit yourself to only their colors.
Kimberly says
Most of my house is Revere Pewter and I love it! It’s the perfect “greige”.
Valerie says
I second Revere Pewter!? Also, I’ve been wondering…what were your kiddos doing through that whole time it was flooding. Did they stay asleep? Whenever I’m going through something hard or I’m dreading, I just think, every minute from now you are one step closer to being finished (with whatever that hard, yucky thing is).
Heather says
Yes! Revere Pewter all over my house and we love it! It looks different to me in different rooms because of the lighting–so versatile!
Holly Crossley says
Yes to Revere Pewter! It’s the main color in our home and we love it!
I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with all of this, especially with the loss you mentioned. Praying for peace for you and your family.
Dana K says
If you’re looking for another beige shade, we used Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige as the neutral throughout most of our home.
Alison says
We used Accessible Beige throughout our main living area too with Alabaster for the trim. 🙂
Catherine says
Yes, SW Accessible Beige is a wonderful neutral and looks great throughout a home and with other colors.
Theresa Childs says
I also love SW accessible beige ?
Beth Knecht says
One step at a time is a great perspective to have!
So glad today starts the process. One step closer to the end!
Amanda says
I just painted my whole house in SW Incredible White, if you want a little darker Wordly Gray is pretty too! I’m a taupe fan so I stay away from Grays but a Worldly Grey is more taupe that Gray. I’m so sorry you have to go through all this – prayers for a smooth transition and repair!
Mary says
You have the sweetest family with the biggest heart ❤️ to plan the brave party for Ashby.
So glad you’re able to stay home.
Dana says
Oh, Shay. I can’t even imagine what those moments must have been like. I can just picture the chaos of it all and the sinking feeling you must have had, especially watching your patio cave in. I was thinking of some things to be thankful for in it (something I try to do) and one was that you’ve been blogging for so long you probably have every inch of your house in pictures to remember if you have to claim individual things for insurance.
Did they have to do additional things to Ashby during the MRI (or maybe you’d rather not say)? MRIs without any complications are bad enough. And watching things like that as a mom is totally heart-wrenching. We had some health scares with one of our kids with dwarfism and I remember them holding her down and digging around to try to get blood for what seemed like an eternity. Thankfully she has no memory of it. Ashby is one special little girl and I’m guessing all these trials will just make her stronger and grow her trust in the Lord.
Also, I was listening to some good, sad country music this morning and realized you need to learn to like country. 🙂 You’ll feel so much better hearing about the guy who lost his dog, his girl, and his truck all in the same day. Ha!
Mix and Match Mama says
I just LOL! Please don’t make me listen to country music, Dana! Hahaha! Although, that would probably be the icing on the cake of 2020…I’d learn to love country. Ashby’s MRI, because of where it was on her body, just required more than we were expecting. It was terrible…but she did amazing. xo
Ann says
We have been having a pretty rough 2020 as well, I keep joking I am one dead dog away from a bad country and western song! 😉
Erika Slaughter says
What a WEEK!!! Love you and your positive outlook, friend! You’ve been such a trooper!
Rachel Winstead says
I flooded in Louisiana in 2016 so I totally can emphasize with the stress and heartbreak of it all. I will say on the other side of it, that I got to remodel my house exactly like I wanted it so it turned out ok and all worked out (but that was bc we were able to salvage furniture, clothes, etc too). Anyways, I know living through it can be so stressful and hard so just wanted to say I can feel for you and know what you’re going through ?? Also, we happen to be buying a new house that is painted Sherwin-Williams Frosty White and I love it!! It’s very light but has a lot of warmth to it
Linds says
Sherman Williams Repose Gray is my all time favorite!
I hope you all have a better week!
Ashley says
Same! We love Repose Gray
Amanda says
We love Respose Gray too!
Anita K says
Another for Repose Gray
Nikki says
YES! The perfect grey!
Amy Heinl says
As tough is demo day it puts you one day closer to having the rebuilding starting. I love the following colors by Sherwon Williams: Light French grey, Sunbleached, and Drift of Mist
Liz Cortez says
Yes, we had Kilm Beige and are painting our house Repose grey. I love it!
Sara says
We just built our house and used SW Repose Gray and LOVE it! Our last house was SW Accessible Beige if you like something more beige. Loved it, too!
Christen says
Repose and mindful are my favorite!! Mindful in rooms with a lot of natural light and repose for darker rooms. We also love silver strand from SW.
Kristi says
My interior is painted SW worldly gray and I would choose it again and again.
Susan Jeffries says
Praying for you. That is all.
Jennifer says
I really like light French gray or agreeable gray. I have light French gray in cashmere flat in my daughters nursery.
Amanda Sinclair says
I painted our living room in Light French Gray at 50%. It is beautiful. I used the Emerald Paint in their finish that is one step above flat(so its flat but still easy to clean).
Jamie says
We’re in the middle of painting our entire house agreeable gray – love it love it love it!!
Kim de Jong says
I love light french grey and have it in my twins nursery. SW Agreeable grey is in my whole house and I have used it 3 other times in houses! It is beautiful and goes well with cool and warm tones. Best of luck and many prayers for your family. This too shall pass!
Charmaine Ng | Architecture & Lifestyle Blog says
It sounds exhausting, what you’re dealing with! I hope things get fixed soon. At least now you’ll always have a story to tell! ❤️✨

Megan Neer says
Your house is going to end up feeling fresh and beautiful! I love your positive attitude!
I have used Sherwin Williams for years and on 4 different houses. We love Kilim-Beige and also love Latte.
So I love the gray trend but didn’t want my house to feel cold. I love a cozy feel. That being said, we tried Repose Gray from Sherwin Williams and LOVE it! It is fresh but cozy and looks good in every room we have put it in! It’s a perfect neutral. Praying this week is better for you all!
Karen Krieger says
There are not enough words to help you get through ball if this! Good luck and prayers from New Jersey!
Ellen MacDonald says
Sherwin-Williams Alabaster! May be too close to what you had if you are looking for a big change though. Hoping this all goes smoothly and quickly for you, keep smiling. xo
Carly says
How is your furniture not water damaged? A miracle! I was wondering if you were going to keep things the exact same or not! Look forward to the little things!
Mix and Match Mama says
We were home, so with the help of friends and neighbors, we got everything moved.
Dustie Day says
Hobby Lobby in PA has pumpkins and all fall out already, just in case you need a pick me up 😉
CampDallas says
Oh Shay…you continue to be on my heart and in my prayers. Even in this chaotic uncertain time, I see your positivity and unwavering faith. Hang in there!!
Sheridan Haynes says
Sherwin-Williams steamed milk, Swiss coffee or dove wing!
Tracy says
My whole first floor is SW Castle Path.
LBarnes says
Shay, I’m sure it’s not always been easy, but I love that you try to find a positive during any storm, literally!
As a person who loves to travel (I’m not sure if you’re thinking about going this far away for your few weeks of not being in your house), Yellowstone National Park would be a great getaway to see some neat geysers and animals and maintain social distancing. It’s outdoors and open. Just something to consider. Good luck with the demo!
Heather says
I love SW Repose Gray! It’s all over my downstairs and our master.
Reba says
We love Sherwin Williams Sea Salt and Dover White! We are praying for you!
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I am so very sorry all of that happened to y’all! It has been a terrible year–and especially for y’all! Don’t feel bad for saying how terrible all of this is or that other people have had worse things happen–you have the right to grieve what’s happened/happening. It’s awful!
Since you’re having to redo everything downstairs, are you going to redo it all exactly as you had it before (other than the paint) or will you change up layouts or materials?
Praying for you, Shay!
xo,
Sarah
MeetTheShaneyfelts
Mix and Match Mama says
They are ripping it back to nothing, so we’re going to make some changes…since we’re basically building the first floor all over again. Boo.
Erin LLoyd says
We have accessible beige too. I do love it but I would love a crisp white any day!!! I was at a friends house last week and she has Chantilly lace and its beautiful! Crips and clean!!
Enjoy making the changes to what you want out of a horrible situation!! So sorry. I cant even imagine having rain just pouring into your house!! Praying for you!!
Kristi says
We used Sherwin Williams Naturel in our old house and I absolutely love it. We always got tones of compliments and it wasn’t a super common color which I liked.
Julee says
Hi, so sorry about your house. I know how crazy it is as we flooded in Houston in Harvey. And like you, I was so happy for the demo bc it meant progress towards the finish line. We have 3 kids and lived upstairs for most of the work. The dust from the sheet work work really affected me (I don’t have asthma or any other underlying health issues), but the moment I went downstairs I was miserable and wore a mask before it was cool! Anyway, it got so bad that we (5 of us and 2 dogs) moved out for 6 weeks. That was crazy too, but we survived! We had pained the house 3 months prior to Harvey with SW Popular Gray and loved it, so we used it again! We tried the more popular colors but I liked this one the best! Praying your remodel goes smoothly – that was way more stressful than the flood but we managed the project ourselves.
Gwen says
I used SW Natural in most of my house & love it! I get lots of compliments.
Grier says
Hi shay’ I’m so so so sorry about your home flooding. I know you said you wanted sherwin-williams paint but I have a suggestion for a paint color even though it is not sherwin-williams brand of paint. “Fig Cookie” by kelly moore is what we use in our home. I originally found it in this blog post.
http://thelarsonlingo.blogspot.com/2012/10/lukes-nursery.html?m=1
I hope y’all try a sample of it! We really like it!
Laura says
I love agreeable grey by Sherwin Williams. It’s kind of a “griege” and it’s really pretty!
Holly says
Yes I second agreeable grey! It is a great color. It is a warmer grey that doesn’t feel cold. It feels fresh!
Caroline Z says
Shay, I am so sorry for all you have been going through. You are in my family’s thoughts and prayers! At our new home, we absolutely love the ping color Putnam Ivory. Our home is French country and I wanted a neutral but with a little warmth. And we love it! It’s by Benjamin Moore though.
Amy Scott says
How overwhelming! I am doing my house right now in SW Egret White and Agreeable Gray. I love Sea Salt for Master bath but haven’t decided. I hope it goes quicker than you think!
Jennifer says
Oh my word! That is for sure overwhelming! Did any of your brand new kitchen updates?
It sounds like you have an amazing support system and family. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Erica says
I could talk paint all day, I’m married to a SW sales rep! Navajo White would feel in the same family as Kilim Beige, but a bit brighter! My house is Accessible Beige- perfect balance of beige and gray. Sending good vibes your way!
Kris says
Sherwin William alabaster is a favorite if you like simple and clean! It’s the perfect soft white
Jenny says
I love the Kilim beige- that’s our lower level. I cannot wait to see the changes you make, it will be more beautiful than ever. I displayed your cookbook in our kitchen and I’m praying for you guys each time I look at it. (And using it all this week too- so delicious and easy) You’re a loving example and I know you guys are going to pull through this time. Special ongoing prayers for Ashby, what a bundle of inspiration in a small package ?
Robin Waibel says
Last summer we had almost our entire downstairs repainted in SW Anew Grey. It is the perfect mixture of grey and taupe. It pops with white trim. We love it!
Hilary says
I dont think this paint color gets enough love. It is my FAVORITE color. My whole living areas/kitchen are Anew Grey. I painted my bedroom one shade darker Mega Greige and honestly wish I had went with Anew Grey. I’ll repaint in a year or so maybe.
Sarah says
Sherwin-Williams 7667 Zircon is my FAVORITE, it’s a light grey that I would paint my entire house in if I could 🙂
jette says
Pumpkins are front and center in Hobby Lobbys here in Florida already. Thought of you and said a quick prayer. Hang in there!
Carly says
Perfect greige! We have it in our home and it is cozy and warm. But also more modern than a traditional beige!
Brooke says
SW Fleur de Sel—it’s the most beautiful grey with very subtle light blue depending on the light!
Good luck with demo!! Hugs from Atlanta!
Katie says
Can you let your readers know the most mentioned paint colors that people respond to your comment request with?
Mix and Match Mama says
Of course!!
Joy says
Praying for your family! This year isn’t over and God can bring something good out of this mess. And I’m praying God does this for the world too. #tiredofcovid
Kate says
Ashby is one amazing girl!!!! She is so tough and such an inspiration to me!! We are praying for you and your family during this difficult time! I can’t even imagine what that flood would be like.
Katrina says
Sherwin Williams Alabaster if you wanted something light and neutral.
Susan Crivella says
Edgecomb Gray by Benjamin Moore is our favorite
Jamie says
Mine too! It’s a shade lighter than Revere Pewter (BM) I have used it in rentals and my my homes. It looks good in all lighting.
Tina says
I’ve been through what you are going through! So glad everyone is ok and that you were able to save your things. I love SW Mindful Grey, although I often lighten it by 50% for any room that tends to be dark.
Sheaffer Sims says
Girl, I’m exhausted for you. And sad for you. But from a friend perspective, you are handling this like a champ!!! And Ashby? There are no words for that amazing girl of yours!
Deborah says
Oh, Shay! I am so sorry. It all sounds so overwhelming. Praying for you all this morning (wisdom, peace, and patience). Rejoicing with you that Ahsby’s procedure went well. Steer clear of any paint color that is called 2020!
Mix and Match Mama says
Well, I just LOL. 😉
Rachel says
Just FYI- Sherwin Williams (and Behr, and Benjamin Moore, and any other company) can make any color. The swatches all have formulas on them that the paint stores just plug into the machines. That being said, Sherwin Williams has a great online palate and you can order up to 10 swatches for free.
Susan S. says
I didn’t know if you were looking for a totally new color or what, but SW Accessible Beige is what we have and love it. It blends nicely with any color, even grey. Prayers for you guys as you deal with all of the chaos!
Jami says
What color are you thinking of? Our last two homes had darker paint so with our current home I wanted to lighten it up.. our main living area is SW Ellie Gray. It’s a light gray and we have navy and yellow accents. With our bedroom we went with SW Mineral
Deposit. It’s more of a blue/gray.
Tiffany says
I am painting our main living areas this week. After testing many SW and BM colors, endless Google searches on best warm neutral colors, and a Consumer Reports search on best paint (so I have to do as few coats as possible bc I am not a fan of painting)- I’m going with Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter (Aura paint).
I might have cried when I read the surprises waiting for Ashby when you got home fro your MRI. Glad it’s behind you!
Mix and Match Mama says
Me too. xx
Kelly Bonner says
Sherwin-Williams Williams City Loft or Reflection.
So glad you get to keep your furniture! I wondered about that! Continued prayers! ??
Corinne Sadowsky says
God bless you and your family. My prayers are with you. Be positive, when finished it will be lovely.
Laura says
Repose Grey and Peppercorn (accent wall). Both Sherwin Williams colors. Good luck with demo day!
Anonymous says
AGREEABLE GRAY SHERWIN WILLIAMS. shay, listen to me, you CANNOT go wrong with this color. It goes with EVERYTHING! It is described as a greige, so since you’re not really into the gray look as you’ve said, this color still will mesh SO BEAUTIFULLY with your existing furniture!!! We just did it in our kitchen/dining, and it feels soooo calm and sweet and neutral in there. I told my husband we should do the whole house that color now lol. It is definitely versatile and will match whatever new furniture/decor I change as I want something new!
Lindsay says
Sherwin-Williams Intellectual Grey. It might be too dark for you, though we’ve used it in both our previous teeny house and our new larger house with more light. Honestly, I loved it in the old house, and was determined to choose a new color when we moved. I had about 10 paint chips taped all around the house, and every time I thought, “this one. definitely THIS one” and pulled it down, it was Intellectual Grey. So in the end, we went with the same exact color that we’d had before, because it was just perfect and we loved it so much. It’s the perfect greige. Not too tan, not too warm, not too gray, not too cool. Some grays can skew green, or purple, but this one is just always perfect.
Cheri says
First off I can’t even imagine going through what you are going through, my heart goes out to you and your family. BUT the silver lining is that you can now change up things a bit and redecorate and that is always fun. It will be exciting for all of us to see pictures of the progress and what you have chosen. Good luck!
Jo Ellen says
Check out BM Balboa Mist if you want a great neutral that pops with white trim.
Shannon says
Why still zero pictures??
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t know? It’s depressing? It’s a lot of equipment and plastic and fans and dirt…I think once they clear stuff out, it will be easier to get a perspective but last week, I didn’t really even go in there because it’s filled with “stuff”. It’s also super loud.
Bobbie says
I totally get that! Nothing close to yours, but we had only been in our house for a month and we had a flood with our first newborn. Everything was messy and dusty and loud…we have no pictures of that process. We laugh now though because my fussy daughter loved the noisy fans! We would walk with her in that area of the house and she would go right to sleep—white noise LOL! Thanks for sharing this process with us, will continue to pray for your family!
Andrea at Opulent Cottage says
Laurel Bern Interiors has an amazing paint guide! She gives tips about using different colors in different exposures, things we would never figure out on our own. When we move I’m using her guide for everything! Good luck, Shay! xo https://laurelberninteriors.com/interior-design-blog/
Leslie S says
Bless y’all. Will continue lifting your fam in prayer as the work to restore your home goes on! SW Misty Gray is my fav.
Linda F says
Sherwin Williams Modern Grey for the win! we just painted everything and its THE perfect shade with white trim!
sorry for all your house mess!!!
Lauren says
I love the quote you provided! I’m taking it to heart this week. I’m so sorry about your home and praying for you guys to stay safe and healthy. XO
Amie says
Girl I am doing the same thing already thinking about Christmas since we got cheated out of our first Christmas in our new house last year because of flooding!
It sounds like you have had a touch week. Many prayers for you and your family and I’m so sorry for your loss.
We used SW Creamy for trim, mindful gray on the walls and repose gray on the ceiling.
Kristen W says
I’m so glad that the MRI went well and you are so right you have a Very Brave little girl- wow, I’m blown away by her courage, such an inspiration!!
I’ve been thinking about you all and the upheaval you all are going through!
I’m excited and always look forward to your book reviews especially with the book club? I finally got the Elin Hilderbrand book on Friday- OH My!!!! That’s all I’m saying right now? Praying for a calming week for you all!
Paula says
Continuing to pray for your sweet family. That Ashby gets me every time!! She is so BRAVE!!! Every time she had a procedure I just feel like shouting My God is so BIG!!!
SW Agreeable Grey for the win!!!! We painted our entire home and I LOVE it!!!
Kelly Martin says
We struggled to find the right gray but made a great decision with Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. It’s perfect! And we asked Sherwin Williams to match it because we also prefer their paint – easy peasy. Best of luck!
Joan W says
Ashby is such a trooper! Now that she knows what to expect, I’m sure it will be easier to ‘grin and bear it’ going forward. And she will have the satisfaction of having conquered something big. You are a trooper too! Glad you were able to save your furnishings and clothing. What a mess!
Jen says
You mentioned a funeral and I just wanted to say that I’m sorry for your loss.
Mix and Match Mama says
It was a beautiful celebration of her life. It really, really was.
Alison says
Oh my heart… I literally cried while reading this. You are so strong, Mama, and I feel for you. I am praying for you and hopeful that the construction happens quickly. Hugs from GA!
Tracey says
We went with a fresh white paint for most of our house. Benjamin Moore White Dove. It’s a warmer white, and I love it!
Elspeth says
What a week it’s been for you. I can’t imagine the disorder and chaos but i know you and your family will make it through it. I love your hashtag and i hope this week brings more peace.

Girl! You are full of old school grace! Any momma would’ve struggled with that MRI. And you are being so positive in light of your home. Y’all are a tight & loving family. Y’all are gonna be just fine. Continued prayers, especially for Miss Ashby.
Denise Young says
We just painted our new cabin Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray (HGSW3467), it’s a light Gray, our painter just loved it!
WE also repainted our house Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter (HC-172), it’s a Taupe Gray. You have to Google it, it’s a little darker than the Agreeable Gray. Good Luck!!
Keri says
We painted our living room SW Snowbound. We loved it so much, we painted the rest of the house Snowbound! I’m so sorry for all you are having to deal with!
Lynn says
Sorry this happened but just think how beautiful your home will look when it’s finished?
We painted all the main walls in our home with
SW Light French Gray and our dining room Classic French Gray. The LFG is a cool neutral gray.
Hand in there?
Valerie Roberts says
SW Agreeable Gray. It goes with everything, and is kind of a neutral gray – not too cool or warm toned, so that things in tour home that are brown (like wood or leather chairs) look just as great next to it as cooler toned items. We love it!
Julie says
I am so sorry for all that you’re facing at the same time right now, Shay! I’m sure life must seem just impossible at times. I’m happy you get to stay in your own house though-that must be some sort of small relief! I read in HGTV magazine about two SW I’m thinking of trying for my own first floor: Alpaca SW 7022 and Rhinestone SW 7656. I’m a person who likes to change out accent colors a lot (with holiday decorating, different throw pillows, etc) so these neutrals appeal to me. I hope that helps. Hang in there and know that you are so loved and supported in this little online community! We are all wishing the best for you.
Julie says
We just built two years ago and have all Sherwin-Williams paint as well. In our main living area, we chose Amazing Gray and I am obsessed with it! It’s a very warm greige. For our kitchen cabinets, we have Alabaster which is a beautiful, soft white with no yellow undertone. In our bathrooms, we chose Sea Salt. It’s another neutral that has a green undertone in it and feels very beachy. All very neutral and warm colors that are very cozy. Good luck with the rebuild!
Georgette says
God’s blessings to you all as you navigate this challenging year. I’m so sorry!
Denise says
Manchester Tan cut in half, beautiful neutral!
Alysun says
Worldly Gray by SW. My friend has a new build and did that. Love it! Very clean and fresh.
Jami says
SW Alabaster! It’s the perfect “white” that’s still creamy and doesn’t read warm or cool. We painted our last house that but just moved and I know it sounds weird but I miss my walls so much!
Fenny says
What a week! Ashby is amazing!
Question about the house? How was the first floor being rained on, but the second floor was not? I’m confused lol.
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s a great question! Half of my house has a second story and the other half does not. Right now, we’re adding a second story to the other half and that’s the part without a roof and therefore, caused the water damage below. Make sense? Our current second floor is above the laundry room, pool bath, guest room, part of the kitchen and dining room…so those rooms were protected from rain coming down in because it had the original roof (the floors in those room did get damage though from water coming in). The new construction was the source and so all of the rooms below it (living room, our room, two bathrooms, closet, breakfast nook) didn’t have a roof at the time of the storm.
Vicki says
I was wondering exactly the same thing! Thanks for the explanation, makes sense! Sending lots of hugs, Shay, as you navigate this difficult and stressful time.

Hello,
I have only recently started reading your blog, as a close friend referred me to it due to your large home loss. My family, in May 2019 also suffered a large home loss due to water damage. I too was told, 6 months. It has now been 15 months, with an estimated 2-4 months left. Water damage is serious and you will find out that insurance is going to fight you tooth and nail on what is due. However, i sure hope that is not your case!
I would highly recommend hiring a public adjustor to assure you get the insurance money that is due for your beautiful home. We also had a custom home, 6000 sq ft. and insurance fought us tooth and nail. Your first priority needs to be to ensure the home is fully removed from the water, as that is how black mold happens and puts your young family at risk! Do your research! Do not trust anyone but yourself. I know i sound crazy…we are a trustworthy family and we found out that everyone is out for themselves.
You certainly have a long road ahead. I speak from my own experience. My entire life has been turned upside down with our home loss. Each day, for 15 months straight now, i spend anywhere from 2-4 hours dealing with contractors, insurance, bids, designers, ect. I’m a working professional, VP for a staffing firm. and this has 100% taken a toll on my young family as well. We are living in our outbuilding, we decided to stay on property too. We built a small 2 bedroom apartment (for our family of 5, 2 dogs, cat, hamsters, fish, haha). and it was a good choice for us, but it has been very rough. staying on property to keep track of what is going on is important.
I’m anxious to see how your story unfolds, with high hopes it goes better then mine. Please feel free to reach out if you need any advice or questions on insurance. Because WOW i have learned ALOT. #largehomelossstinks

I am so sorry about your loss. I am so, so sorry. Sending you so much love from my house to yours this morning!!
Serena W. says
SW – Accessible Beige is a favorite of ours. Depending on how bright the room is it can go more gray or brown. We really like this color and have it in several rooms in our house.
A few more that are also beautiful … SW Repose Gray, SW Creamy, BM Revere Pewter. BM White Dove.
Sending you all good vibes for a great week!
Shannon says
Praying for you and your family. I have Behr’s Mineral in my house…but with Sherwin Williams paint!! It’s the best.

i love SW shoji white. it’s a beautiful light creamy color.
Laci Robertson says
My five year old daughter had a 20 minute MRI of her leg last week, then another 7 minute one. The situation is nowhere near as concerning, but I have a glimmer of your pain. Those were the most nerve wracking minutes. Sending continual prayers for God‘s peace to blanket you and your family in the coming months.
STEPHANIE HARRIS says
Bless you and your sweet family! Sorry for these trials. They are supposed to make us stronger, right?
Our previous home was painted SW Repose Gray and I loved it so much. It doesn’t work in our new home as perfectly, so we went with SW Pearly White. I love it. It is a very light beige, almost creamy but without the yellow.
Good luck! The upside is you get to remodel and have all new. Can’t wait to see what you do!
Jen says
You sound sound so positive even though facing so much right now. Keeping you all in my prayers!
As for paint, I know you love cozy so a fan favorite of alot of our friends and family is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter 🙂
Amy Coose says
Can’t believe that happened, and love your positive attitude towards the whole thing. That Ashby, she rocks my world! She is just one amazing being.
Sharon says
We have SW [aint – sand dollar. It is a little darker than what you’ve probably had before, but it is a warm beige color. We have it on all the walls and really like it. Hope all continues to go well with the demo. Have gone through demo as well with a home reno. Good luck.
Kay says
What a horrible experience during an already overwhelming time. So sorry for you! I kept thinking please don’t say your birthday signs got ruined. Those little things would be awful to lose.
Ally McElroy says
I have followed your family for years now and I frequently say “I’m going to see if Shay has a suggestion” around my house. My books, recipes (adapted for a top 8 allergen free kiddo?), clothes, travels, etc start with a friend I have never but genuinely care for.
From my perspective, your past week has been far from fine. That staircase has been an absolute beast to climb, BUT God. God has walked this staircase before and has chosen to walk it step for step with you. — so when you do need to stop and catch your breath and this climb becomes a bit too much, embrace not being fine. When we cannot see the finish line it forces us to look behind us and see how many steps we’ve climbed, look to the right and see our husband (who may look a bit winded from the climb but still ready to conquer the next floor hand in hand) and look to the left and see God, who has NEVER wavered, NEVER been intimidated by the climb, is NOT winded, and will carry you the floors you cannot walk yourself because He is faithful, He is steadfast and He is always good. THESE “fine but sometimes not fine” moments are the ones we look back on and wouldn’t trade. — and I for one, think you’re conquering this staircase BOTH when you have a bit of momentum AND when you are at a full stop catching your breath ❤️
I am on the sidelines praying for/ cheering on your family!
Now let’s talk paint. My mom found the wall/ baseboard color a few years ago when she was building and since, my mother in law, sister AND I have all painted every room in our house this combo:
Wall: SW Egret White
Baseboards: SW Colonnade Gray
Soooo excited to see what your completed remodel will look like!!!!
Ally
Amy says
We have been all about SW alabaster (probably spelt wrong lol)
Also, I saw a comment why no pictures? I mean do they doubt there was a flood? Give Shay some grace here! It just happened.
Megan says
Oh Shay, I’m so so sorry about your house but what a beautiful outlook you have on life and tough situations. We just painted our house using Sherwin Williams Vanilla Sugar (the perfect combination of gray and beige). We love how it turned out.
MH says
I’ve found some great recommendations going through these comments. SW has a Paint a Photo option-so easy–upload a photo and choose a palette of colors, then you can virtually paint your room. It’s fun and helps a lot to see what the color will look like IRL….I’m looking at light gray/blue colors for my living area…I’ve had Virtual Taupe for the last few years-I’m loving Zircon, Silverplate, Reflection….also this blogpost helped too: https://www.kylieminteriors.ca/sherwin-williams-best-gray-greige-paint-colours/. Best wishes with everything. I’m dreading getting the house painted and I know you’d love to be at that step right now. That being said, it will be fun to see the changes and creativity you use in the next months to recreate your living space….thank goodness for insurance, huh?
BC says
Sounds like a week! Hope easier days are ahead. I hesitate offering unsolicited medical info, but maybe this is something that could help Ashby. I have had numerous MRIs and they give me horrible anxiety. Before the last one I had, I asked my doctor to prescribe something to take the edge off. I don’t like taking extra meds, but I was really afraid I wouldn’t be able to complete the MRI. I ended up being prescribed Ativan…I wasn’t fully sedated, but was relaxed and could deal with the MRI. Maybe there is something like this that could have less side effects than anesthesia, but make the experience easier for Ashby. I had lots of medical experiences as a child and MRIs are really loud (even with the headphones offered these days) and the feeling of confinement can be alot, even for someone brave. Wish you all luck moving forward.
Casey Finke says
I have SW Amazing Gray throughout my living space & love it. It can go gray or greige depending on the lighting. And my Hobby Lobby in Texas has pumpkins out already. I’m seriously debating putting mine out once 4th of July décor comes down. I mean, nothing else about this year has been normal…so why not pumpkins in July?! =)
Lauren says
I think we all could use the “one step at a time” mantra right now!
2020 is a doozy!
My heart goes out to you! I can imagine how horrible that must have been to watch!!!! I am glad Ashby did well, but sorry it was so hard, too!!
Praying for you as you go through the “messy middle”!! I’m glad you get to be home. I pray God gives you splashes of joy in the midst of the hard, and much grace, peace, and strength!!!! ❤️❤️
Wendy says
I found Realist Beige by SW a few years back and it is now in all my bedrooms, baths and hallways. Love how neutral it is!
Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World says
Y’all have certainly had a rough year and it’s more than okay for you to say that! I’m so sorry for all that you’ve been through this year… your sweet family has been in my prayers. I hope everything goes smoothly and QUICKLY with your rebuild!
Amanda says
We did our whole house in SW – edgecomb gray, pale oak and silver satin. So pretty!! Good luck!!
Rebecca Purdie says
Shay,
So glad Ashby is doing well.
Water can do so much damage. I have dropped a water bottle (did not seem like there was much water in the bottle), but when I was cleaning it up it was a lot. I can’t even imagine rain coming in for 10 hours.
Hang in there one step at a time. Your family is strong.
This too shall pass.
Haley says
Almost my whole house is Repose Gray, we love it!!
Alisa says
What a week! But you made it. I’m sure you’re glad to be starting a new week and starting demo and just moving.on. We have SW Anew Gray and it’s more of a taupe gray. And then we just redid my son’s bathroom and he wanted it a little more gray (with beige undertones) so we did Agreeable Gray. They are really really close but the first lends a little warmer than the second. But neither are gray gray.
I am amazed by Ashby. What a strong girl! I have had many MRIs and I have to have a Xanax just to lay still enough and not feel chlosterphohic. So I am so impressed by her! And by you – it is SO hard to watch your child struggle in any situation and watch them be so brave. Strong mama, strong daughter. ❤️ Praying for a much better week this week!!
Sarah says
We just did Worldly Gray and Amazing Gray throughout the house. It is a beige gray and goes with everything!
Pam Bryson says
So, so sorry that Ashby had to go through that but what a lucky girl….she has you for a mom!! We just finished a remodel that started beginning of Feb. The process can be trying but the outcome is fantastic! Yes we lived here too, but our children are grown. We missed having our grandkids over tho. I absolutely LOVE SW Ghost Pines!!! We used in kitchen, bar, bath, utility, living room, dining room, foyer, den and hallway. A warm light color that looks great with grays and beiges. I have a few antiques plus dark hardwoods. I came across the color after seeing one of my daughter’s friend’s house and fell in love! Our painter loved the color! Happy remodeling!!
Shirlee says
Sherwin Williams Natural Linen is so serene. I love it!
Lorie says
I’ve been thinking about you and your family so much this past week. It’s just unbelievable what happened to your beautiful home. I pray that something good will come from it, that you’ll look back one day and think “oh, that’s why we had to go through that nightmare”. And, as always, prayers for your brave, amazing Ashley!
Repose gray is a beautiful color (as others have said) and Elephant Ear is a pretty accent color with it. Also love Agreeable Gray.
Kristi says
Sherwin Williams Alpaca!!!! Such a beautiful light gray. Our whole house is done in it (besides the bedrooms) and I LOVE it!!
Patty says
You know, I’ll bet a LOT of us would love to shower Ashby with cards and or little gifts the next time she goes through a procedure. She’s a brave warrior! Gets it from her Mama, I think.
Sandy Blitch says
Repose Gray is the nicest color, we have it all throughout ou house! I feel so sad, bad, and grief-stricken for what you are going through, while raising your family! We went through water damage a few years ago, but our kids were grown and gone! That was hard enough, we had to move out because we have a one story home. You are incredibly strong to handle all this with such grace and strength. And Ashby, she obviously has fed off your strength during her short life! Going into a different kind of MRI is the unknown which is scary, now she will know what to expect next time. Prayers for all of you and the process, God is right beside you!
Seunghye Huggins says
Wow! You are a better person than me! I would have just lost it! We are going through a kitchen remodel and new floors on our main level and that’s been tiring, even though I’m not the one doing the work, just having your house in ciaos is hard. For our kitchen we are using SW Functional Gray and would love to hear the popular response as we are still trying to decide what to paint the rest of the house. Best of luck with the whole remodel process. On the positive side is that you will have a new house!
Carlie says
We have SW silverplate. Shows more blue but I believe you have blues. Also just painted my daughters room SW Alabaster
Temi Scott says
I’ve only had one MRI done and that’s when I was 9 months pregnant with twins. I was such a baby about it, they had to bring my mom in to comfort me through the whole thing! Haha! At one point I hopped off the table and said “I might have a blood clot, but that’s a risk I’m willing to take. I’m not going back in there!!” They convinced me otherwise ? It is definitely one of the hardest and scariest things I’ve done. What a brave little girl you have!! ?
Chelsey says
Our whole house is versatile grey and requisite grey! They are both greige- one is a little more grey and one is a little more beige (I can’t remember which is which!)
Chrys says
It’s been mentioned several times, but it’s one of my VERY FAVORITES– Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. It’s the perfect greige and Sherwan Willimans could definitely match it.
Heather says
Will you be redesigning your closet and such or happy with the original plans? Any other house updates that you are allowed to share? I’m nosy, sorry hehe
I’m sorry to hear about your loss x
Mix and Match Mama says
My closet should look the exact same. I still love everything about it.
Beth says
Small hinges open big doors! You’ve got
this! And Ashby, no words, she is super girl, guessing having such a sweet family is her shield! I just keep trying to remind myself, this to shall pass and the best is yet to come…
carol says
Another note for SW Sea Salt!
Good idea to not try to relocate everyone…although you may have a few moments of “why did I do this!?”
This too shall pass.
Kourtney Sluder says
My Hobby Lobby already has pumpkins! ?
Lynette says
I’m so so sorry for all you have been through in the past several months. Sending lots of love and positive vibes that your construction process goes as smoothly and quickly as possible! We recently did a remodel and our designer recommended just a nice basic white. I’m so glad we did as it’s just a nice clean look with our modern design and furnishings. We used Benjamin Moore Simply White. Hugs to sweet Ashby and to you!
Charlene Cunningham says
Take a look at BM Manchester Tan. You can see it compared to Agreeable Grey , etc, on “5 Go to Neutrals” by Home Bunch (pinterest). The color changes depending on the light, but it us not as grey to me.
Elizabeth Kelly says
We have S.W. Sea Salt in our kitchen and guest bath and love it 🙂 So sorry you are having to deal with this.
Diane Hagarty says
I love SW Loggia. A beautiful light taupe (I am not a gray person). It looks great with SW Aged white if you have painted trim. (It is a warmer white than Alabaster).
So happy that Ashby is ok and that you have a plan to put your home back together ASAP. I love your positive attitude! Take care!
Janie says
We used Sherwin Williams Balanced Beige throughout our house.
Julie McPeak says
Oh my word…I hope this week is a better week! We just moved in October and painted our living room, hallway, guest room, and bonus room Pale Oak. It is a Benjamin Moore color and is so pretty! Good Luck! I can’t wait to see the “new” Shull house!
Dawn Earwood says
1. Yay for progress! Even small progress. Any progress.
2. Way to go Ashby! Girlie, God loves you BIG!
3. Way to go Shull fam! You packed, you moved out, you moved in, you baked, you baseballed!
4. Whew. Amen.
Ally says
1 – I am so grateful for your blog! I love all of the topics you hit on and appreciate your openness and willingness to share.
My husband and I renovated our entire first floor 2 years ago and it was a process! Luckily, we only had one child at the time, so I feel for your upcoming journey with 4 kiddos!
A few things I learned…dust travels! The amount of dust we found, even in the rooms we could “live in,” was hard to contain. I would recommend finding small ways to “seal” under the doors, especially while workers are there during the day. We live in Kansas and have basements, so were fortunate to move our “kitchen” downstairs; however, with no real access to a sink or dishwasher, paper plates, crock pot meals, and crock pot liners were key!
The weeks seem to drag on and on, but you can make it! Day at a time is absolutely right!
Thank you for being a positive, godly influence in this crazy world!
Carol says
We used Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray in the house we sold last year. We painted our bedroom Dorian Gray, and the bathrooms Sea Salt (LOVE THAT). Our new home is Repose Gray, and that is fine too, but I think I like Agreeable Gray a little bit better. We bought a spec house, and it has flat paint (of course, to hide all the imperfections in the drywall), and I HATE FLAT PAINT with the passion of a thousand blazing suns! Otherwise, love Sherwin Williams!
Karen says
I just repainted during a remodel that gave me an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings and allows so much light into my house. I painted almost every room ‘Balboa Mist’ and all the doors and trims ‘‘Swiss Coffee’. The Balboa Mist looks different in every room and even each wall in the great room depending on the light. All my friends are now using it, absolutely gorgeous, goes with everything and tends to look different from house to house. All the paint companies can make those colors, mine is Kelly Moore or SW, can’t remember…Good Luck!
Tiffany Stegall says
We used Pavilion Beige and Realist Beige from SW at our old house and loved them both. The Realist Beige is one that sometimes looks beige, sometimes gray depending on the light. We just moved and our new house has Colonnade Gray by SW all throughout (which I love, too) but we will probably throw some of the Pavilion Beige/Realist Beige combo in there eventually, as well, because they just are so versatile and neutral.
Ashby is a rock star. The end. ❤️
Jennifer says
Revere pewter is the perfect neutral gray/beige. I would suggest getting them to lighten it. I think it’s Benjamin Moore, but Sherwin Williams can mix that color.
Taylor says
Agreeable grey and collanade grey are my top picks!!
Carrie says
What a week! I can relate! I am also a SF agent and our house flooded about three years ago from the top floor down. It was a mess! We had to re-do most of our main floor living as well. Our kitchen cabinets and trim are all antique white (SW) so we went with Wool Skein as our main overall color and then did Comfort Gray in two of our other rooms. Good luck!
Bridget says
I’m so sorry this happened! My goodness! Agreeable Gray is amazing! We just did our entire house and have had so many others that saw it use it too. Looks like it will be super light but it’s dreamy and a perfect backdrop. It lightens the whole house up and looks so clean. Good luck!
Carly says
SW Accessible Beige SW7036 perfect greige, and will help with your warmer tones you have in furnishings but still not read grey. SW 7042 Shoji White is a great warmer white but still reads crisp without being cream for cabinets, etc.
Nicole says
Our last house we did SW Repose Gray which I liked but it is definitely gray, no greige to it! We just moved and this house we painted SW Accessible Beige and I LOVE it! It is the perfect Greige in my opinion!!! Can’t wait to hear and see what all you choose!
Nikki says
Wow, what a week!! I just had a fire, and got to start from scratch. I painted my house SW Eider White and love it!
Miranda says
Silver Strand is my most favorite!! Just a hint of blue! It looks great with all my different seasonal decor!
Ashley says
SW canvas tan. Have it and love it. Accessible Biege was my second favorite.

For the perfect warm greige:
SW Accessible Beige
SW Modern Gray
SW Worldly Gray

So happy to hear that Ashby handled her MRI well! I saw in a comment you explained how part of your home was flooded and how the other part of the upstairs was not. I had missed that in an early post and was wondering the same thing. So thanks for explaining that. 🙂
So happy and thankful that we have a God that we can lean on and rely on through hardships like this. What would we do without Him?!
I’ve always been SW fan. Love their Cashmere line of paint. We have SW Dirty Martini in our living areas, dining room, kitchen and laundry. I’m loving it! Will have the bedrooms painted at some point. It’s a great neutral color.
Liz Thorson says
Dear, dear Shay, as so many have commented today, you are one strong, brave, positive girl with such a warm, generous heart! I cried as I read about sweet Ashby’s MRI experience and your heartwrenched mama reaction and Andrew and Kensington’s precious, loving, welcoming and thoughtful actions greeting Ashby’s homecoming.
Thank you for explaining how this flooding occurred! I’d been trying to figure it out, but hadn’t realized where your new office was being added onto your house. I get it now! Sooooo glad you were able to save all of your furniture, rugs and clothing! What a nightmare! 10 hours of rainfall is incredible! Here’s to the Slaughter family and other neighbors help that horrifying night! I cannot imagine how exhausted, physically, emotionally and psychologically you must have felt Saturday and the rest of last week!
Much positivity, admiration and love sent from me to you, Andrew and your sweet children! I am glad you have such a strong faith, terrific husband, wonderful family and friends to support you through this recovery! As I shared last week, Shay, it’s your turn to allow your village to hold you up and love you! I know they are all willing and ready. XO

I am so sorry about what happened, How about SW crushed ice?1 One of my favorites

If you are leaning towards grey, Repose Grey from SW is a light pretty color but doesn’t have beige in it. I’ve used it all throughout a house we remodeled with white trim and darker hardwoods…beautiful!
Joanne says
Wow! What a lot to take in; so glad you were miraculously able to save the furniture and things but so sorry you have to go through all of this.

God bless people who were here in a minute to move things!!

So sorry to hear about your house flooding! Prayers for a smooth process! I’ve been using SW agreeable gray and we love it…so versatile!
Krista says
First of all, that is a very tough week and you and your family are AMAZING! Last week the gray water hose to my washer got pulled (while trying to fix the dryer) and it flooded my laundry room and basement, so very very minor compared to what you went through but it was overwhelming at the time I cannot imagine the whole first floor.
Second, our whole house is Sherwin Williams Snowbound and I love it. We also have repose grey in some bedrooms.
My in laws use Alabaster and that is also a great creamy white!
Mix and Match Mama says
I hear that washing machine leaks are really bad!!!!! I’m so sorry!!

I’m glad all of your stuff survived the rain and flood! Our basement flooded a year ago, and we lost so much stuff due to water damage, including a lot of my keepsakes from when my kids were babies ? Hope everything goes smoothly with your rebuild!
Jess says
So sorry about you cozy casa!! We just painted my daughters nursery SW’s Rhinestone. We love it. SOO light and airy. It takes on different colors with the lighting – sometimes white, sometimes a light blue, mostly the barely there gray.
Your son Smith, will be the inspo behind our next baby, if he is a boy – we might name him Smith!!! Love it… it is also my MIL’s maiden name!
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwwwwww!!! I love this, Jess!

I love agreeable gray for most open common areas. for a laundry room, mud room, or bathroom you could get SW to color match the Valspar paint from Lowe’s called tranquility . I’ve had sea salt from SW and tranquility and tranquility is my favorite . God bless your family! You will get through this!

I too love SW paints and only use them. When we renovated, we went with light gray tones throughout the house. Two great grays are “Requisite Gray” and “Colonnade Gray”. Light and bright! And funny, we have Kilim Beige in my son’s room 🙂 Good luck. Prayers to you and your family. You’ll get through this better than I would!
Jaren says
The roommate stuff is just too funny considering the whole situation. Making memories! I just repainted several rooms with Kilim Beige. Love it! We tried the BM Revere Pewter and SW Agreeable Gray. I really liked the color, BUT all of my stuff goes with a more warm tone. My tiles in shower, etc. just couldn’t do the gray.
Kacy M says
When it rains, it pours…so sorry y’all are going thru all this, but happy to know there’s some silver lining! Prayers up for y’all!

WOW!! I’m so sorry this is all happening to you and your family. It’s so crazy how many people have so many crazy things happening in their lives right now. Man, we all need a lot of prayers. As far as pain….We just built a new home and did most of it in SW-Repose Grey. It truly is the most perfect grey color. We love it so much.
Good luck with everything!

I’m so sorry. What a nightmare. You seem to be taking it like a champ. Praying for you guys. Favorite color by Sherwin Williams is Agreeable Gray. I receive so many compliments and many of our friends have loved it so much they have re painted their houses as well. Good luck!
Sasha Lotze says
You are a worrier!!
I know a lot of people are on the gray bandwagon but I think your style is very much a khaki beige girl. We live in Houston and our house is painted SW RELAXED KHAKI.
I always called it breath of beach… Ha ha my friends always laughed at me but it reminds me of soft sand. Not the yellow kind though. Definitely check it out. Goes with everything. #StayAwayFromGray

Shay! My goodness. I cannot imagine all you are going through. The emotions alone from last week must have been so overwhelming, much less the to-do list! I’ve been praying for you and Ashby and your entire family!
So your “next step” mantra reminded me of a podcast I listened to a while back. I’m going to try to link it. It’s called The Next Right Thing, and I’ve only listened to it this once, for this one episode. But it’s good, and it made me think of you.

That is beyond crazy! I’m so sorry that happened. I had a question though, how did NO ONE notice for ten hours?! I know you’ve mentioned that you only sleep 6-7 hours a night, no one heard or saw water?? Even in your own bedroom?
Mix and Match Mama says
We noticed! We were there the whole time through the night getting the water out. We stayed up all night with people trying to minimize the damage until it stopped raining. It was literally raining in my house (on my bed!), trust me…we were well aware! Sorry if I didn’t explain that well enough!

Most of my house is Sherwin Williams Alabaster. It’s warm without being cream.

Taking my turn to pray for you… I can only imagine how stressful all of that is for you! One step at a time resonates deeply for me too. The whole staircase is just way too much! ❤️

My thoughts and prayers to you and the family. While I know difficult, you will find God’s strength cone through.
I tried so many paint samples but I needed warmth and while agreeable gray and many of these others were nice, I needed more warmth so I went with sw Nantucket dune. I don’t believe anyone else suggested it, but prob too warm for many. We are pleased!
This too shall pass… I hope soon!

For years, I always went with the Kilm Beige like you but about 5 years ago I decided to step out of my comfort zone and I found Riverway (Sherwin Williams) It’s my all time favorite. Aside from just loving the color, I find the blue tones to be relaxing and homey which are my 2 favorite traits of home.
It’s a darker blue but honestly it goes great with light or dark – whichever you choose for other surroundings.
I have dark wood for baseboards and window headers but then I have natural hickory for kitchen cabinets and RIverway goes great with it all- Just a suggestion, Continued thoughts and prayers#thistooshullpass

Late comment, but I wanted to let you know that I shared the ‘one step at a time’ with my son who is wading through college paperwork, remotely, as a freshman. He’s been overwhelmed and feeling helpless mixed with despair at times. We just had the conversation about not looking at everything that needs to be done, but getting one thing done at a time. He appreciated the quote <3
We've been praying for your family through all of this!

I’m so sorry you have had to deal with the flooding of your beautiful home. One day at a time and it will be beautiful once more. ??
Paint colors!!! So hard to choose one!!! I use a lot of Sherwin Williams, but on a complete home renovation we just did, we chose “Yarn” by Magnolia (Chip and Joanna Gaines line) and we could not be happier. For the trim we used “Chantilly Lace” by Benjamin Moore …mixed in Behr paint from Home Depot)
So many great paint color suggestions … best wishes as you go through this process.

SW Agreeable Grey is perfect! Goes with everything and is a soothing, warm neutral that can go grey or beige.
