Friends, IT’S DECEMBER!!!!!!!
HOLY COW.
This year sure went by a lot faster than the last. Sigh.
Every year, I try to kick off the season by opening my door and letting you come inside for a little holiday home tour! Last year, we were still finishing up our house after you know…it rained inside and we had to rip everything out and start again. This year, we have FULLY ENJOYED being home in our new-again house this holiday season.
Each year, for over a decade now, I have shared with you our festive holiday house as part of my blog content. Nothing really changes from year to year, but that’s kind of the charm, right? I say this every single year, but if you were here in person, I’d hand you a cup of coffee, you’d smell the pine candles burning and there’s a 99% chance The Carpenter’s Christmas album would be playing in the background. I would be thrilled to have you over 🙂 .
Just like always, it’s a lot of pics today and few words. I have added the new addition to our home tour (my office, the upstairs family room, etc) and this year, I tried to include more pics of our house and some of the rooms at night (since everything is cozier at night!). This is just a bit of holiday happiness from my home to yours.
Welcome…
Thank you for stopping by!
Now, some of the most common questions I get each year after this post are:
1. WHERE DO YOU STORE ALL OF THIS? Well, we were storing them in plastic bins in my attic. Nothing fancy, just big bins. Andrew was hauling them up and down the attic ladder each year, but last year after Christmas, we decided to take them to our storage unit (that we had to have to hold our furniture while the house was being gutted). We have decided that is MUCH easier for us! We load them on Andrew’s trailer and take them there and then haul them back the following year.
2. WHEN DO YOU DECORATE/TAKE DOWN? I typically take Halloween/fall down the first week of November and put up Christmas. We take everything down on the December 26th and get the house back together before we head out of town.
3. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO PUT IT OUT? One full day for both of us and then I typically do the upstairs in a few hours the day before or after.
4. WHERE DID YOU BUY____? I’ve had this stuff for years and years! Some of it, over 17 years! I would say that my go-to places for holiday decorations outside of specialty stores are Pottery Barn, Frontgate and Hobby Lobby. My friends Amanda and Amy make all of my holiday signs that you’ll see and then my friend Lori decorates all of the plates and platters with my kids’ hand prints on them.
I’m always so thankful that you come and visit my little holiday home tour!
Also, don’t forget that we’ve updated so many rooms in our house! If you’re looking for specific sources from specific rooms, these posts here will be the best bet for you to find that information:
Have a wonderful start to your December!!! I’ll see you tomorrow! xx

Ahh I know you said nothing is really new but tell us about that precious Advent calendar house in the kitchen! It looks like a little chalet. Where did you get it? Do you put treats inside for the kids or do they have other calendars?
Your house looks so nice and cozy and TIDY! Are you sure you have 4 kids living there? ?

So stunning and inviting – love it all! Where are your large artificial Christmas trees from (living room and new office?) They are so pretty and perfectly scaled for (what looks like) very tall ceilings. I am on the hunt to fill a tall space with a nice looking tree but I’m having no luck!
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re from treesandtrims.com. Thank you so much for the sweet comment!!!

What a beautiful home! Thank you for sharing it with us. I must say, my treasures are my Lori plates, ornaments and cookie jar, and I love that you have them and know her too! I met her at as boutique in north Houston almost 18 years ago when she did my oldest son’s “Cookies for Santa” plate.

This may be my favorite post all year! LOVE home décor and add in Christmas, I’m in heaven (big heart eyes!) So so cozy. All of these photos just warm me up! Also thinking as I’m going through that I need to find plates like your London one, a mug like your Paris one and an accent chair/ottoman like you have in your bedroom. Christmas presents for me, I think so lol.

Hi Shay,
This is very random… but if you were to ever build again, would you build another hearth in front of fire place? Or do you feel it gets in the way?
Mix and Match Mama says
I would! I think that room is so large and has enough space for it. I think if the room were smaller, I wouldn’t.
Beth Knecht says
Your new deer napkin ring holders compliment your plates so well! So cute!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you for noticing!!
Gina says
The red and white lights are my favorite ones! It was hard to pick, but after 37 years it landed solidly on red and white. I love how cozy and inviting YOU and the house are. Thanks for being a bright light all year.

Just beautiful, Shay! I love how there are touches of Christmas in every room. That’s my goal for our home, when we walk through to see something festive in each area. You do it so well;).
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwwwww! Thank YOU!!!!!
Chrissy says
How many boxes do you have?? I just helped my parents take their Christmas boxes down from the attic and with no exaggeration, there are 85! I would think you also must have a TON!
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t counted. If I did though, it would probably make me not want to decorate. 😉
Lisa says
Where are those tartan plaid scalloped place mats from on your kitchen table ???
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re oldies but goodies. I bought them several years ago at a boutique in town.
Jen says
Oooooohhh. I’m totally copying the Mercury trees in your entryway. 😉 I see that Pottery Barn has some on sale with free shipping. Thank you for sharing your lovely home.❤️
Stephanie Platt says
So beautiful and cozy!
Kara says
Do you eat on the pretty place settings or do you have other everyday Christmas dishes?!
Mix and Match Mama says
We do! The kids love it because the table is basically set every night and they don’t have to do it 😉 .
Kim says
Beautiful! I just read this post before heading to the basement to bring up the last few boxes of decorations for my home. My husband is NOT into decorating for the holidays, so I end up doing almost all of it myself over about a week. My kids help with the tree and the nativity, but I do the rest. It is a lot of work, but I enjoy the finished product! Your home is inspiring me to get going!
Bethany Skobel says
Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. It is beautiful. Merry Christmas!
