Happy Monday, friends!
I hope you all had a great weekend. We spent our weekend in Oklahoma City watching Smith row crew. The weather was cold, the food was delish, and I enjoyed every minute of being with my travel companions 🙂 .
A few weeks ago, after about three months of waiting on its arrival, the Shull’s house in McKinney got a fresh new front. I know that some of you are going to love this and some of you are going to not love this and well, it’s already done, so let’s all just pretend like it’s the best thing you’ve seen on the internet today, okay?
Eleven years ago, we built our home and moved in…
…and a few months ago, we decided it was time for a little exterior refresh.
Here is before…
…and here…
…is the after 🙂 .
I LOVE IT!
I think the iron and glass gives my traditional home a little modern edge.
Please note Charlie and me out front taking pics 😉 .
I could not be more pleased!
I decided to share this today because I know, like myself, many of you need this next month to wrap your brain around this new addition and grieve…
…the fact that our first/last day pics will look different.
I KNOWWWWWWWW!
I’m sad about that part too.
But I am super thrilled every time I walk by and see the extra light inside my house, so I’ve made peace with the fact that my before/after pics will look different.
Sending you so much love as you make peace with it today too 😉 .
That’s it. Just a little front door refresh!
I’ll see you guys tomorrow. 😉 xx

Just curious where you found your personalized front door mat! I have been looking for one like that to replace the one we have!
Mix and Match Mama says
Front Gate! It delivered SO fast too!
Candi says
What size is it?
Mix and Match Mama says
The 30×48 🙂
Brandy Garner says
I love it! It’s one of those “updates” I didn’t know I needed, but after it’s done makes me so happy!
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I love it! You’re right–it does add a modern touch to your exterior! Our front door is about 3/4th glass and I really love the light it brings in.

Looks beautiful!
Jill says
Do you have any food recs for OKC?? I just happen to be looking for a girls trip coming up!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! Bricktown is adorable! Make sure you visit. We like Mahogany Prime Steakhouse a lot too. We also love Cheever’s for a delicious brunch as well. OKC is super cute!
Kim says
Hatch, Tiny Bubbles & Neighborhood Jam for breakfast/brunch, Truckyard if the weather is nice, the restaurants on Lake Hefner especially Redrock at sunset, Clark Crew BBQ, Harvey’s for lunch, Frosted Mug for all the cocktails.
Shay, did you guys get to see the April snow on Sunday lol?
Die with Zero was a great read, very different spin on saving for retirement!
Mix and Match Mama says
We did! Smith rowed in it which was a fun surprise. I’m so happy you read Die With Zero too!
Richelle says
I live in OKC! Mahogany & Cheevers are both fantastic! Frida Southwest in the Paseo area is also a favorite. Tellers in the First National building is also one of the coolest interiors you will ever eat in!
Katie Compton says
Oh you know your readers so well! My first thought was “How will we know how much the Shull kids have grown?!?” Ha! But it is beautiful and I bet the light it lets in is wonderful. Who doesn’t love a little extra sunshine? Happy Monday!
Marla says
I love your door! Makes a huge impact….great choice .
Sheaffer says
WOW! GORGEOUS! Gosh I love a house that’s all lit up at night!
Kim Harrigan says
Love it
Robin says
I LOVE IT!!!!!!
Monica says
Great move! You’re going to love having all that natural light in your beautiful home!
Karleigh Johnson says
I LOVE your new door. Ours is a similar style and even though it’s completely see through, I refuse to put any privacy coating on it because I love how it looks. It’s also really far back from the street and during the day, you can’t see in because of the light.
Random, but I was thinking it would be neat if you did a post talking about how you started your travel agency, any tips or advice on starting an agency or your own business, etc. You might have one already and if you do please let me know because you know I love reading your old blog posts 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I can certainly add that to the list, Karleigh!
Chrys says
I love this idea, Karleigh!
Jeanette says
Fantastic idea Karleigh!
Allison says
“Sending you so much love as you make peace with it today too” Literally laughing out loud at this last message!! Thank you for giving us the time and space to grieve!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
😉
Stephanie says
Looks beautiful!! I love a good change/refresh 🙂
Stephanie says
I love the new front door Shay! Beautiful!
Allison says
I LOVE your new door! Totally changes the front of your beautiful home. It’s fun to update and refresh!
Rachel K. says
I love it. Did you do any privacy tinting on it? We are building at the lake with huge windows in great room and instead of blinds I’m leaning towards tinting them just enough to not fade flooring and furniture but to still have full view and no blinds to deal with.
Yes, we will all grieve the before and after school pics looking different!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I support you as you grieve 😉 . No, our glass is clear all the way through. We looked at other options, but the clear was our favorite.
Kaytlin Karr says
I saw Switchable Privacy Glass on HGTV where the glass is connected to an electrical switch that can make your glass both clear and then opaque for privacy with the flip of the switch! 🤯 https://youtu.be/dqOJCmecMfQ
Paula Hobbs says
I think it’s absolutely beautiful. It looks so pretty at night! I bet the first and last days pics will still be perfect! Have a great week, everyone!
Gwen says
Love it! My first thought was your school pics too so laughing that you mentioned it 😂 gorgeous change!
Karen says
Oh my gosh, the first thing I thought of was the first and last day of school pictures!! I laughed when you addressed it. I’m not the only one! 😂😂
Overall it looks great!!
Laura Holmes says
My first thought… oh no! No more door knocker to mark the kids heights! Second thought… it looks gorgeous!
Mix and Match Mama says
We did keep the doorknocker 🙂 . We put it on another exterior door.
Paige says
I LOVE it!! We too added a glass iron door last year it totally updates our 25 year old home. Love it!!
K.K. says
Ha ha… Shay! As other readers said, you know us too well!! It’s the school pics for me too, but it’s still a very pretty update.
I think others have asked, but do you worry about people looking in at all? I ask because I’m the person in the neighborhood who (if taking an evening walk) will look in the window while I pass by to see how people have decorated! Oops! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Well, I have a lot of windows at the front of my house already, so honestly, this isn’t showing much more than they can already see 😉 .
K.K. says
Fair enough! 🙂
Sandy Gordon says
I love it! I’m just not sure we will all gauge how much your kids have grown each year.
Mix and Match Mama says
I might need to bring a measuring stick out there now too!
Karen says
Love the change!! I especially love all the light I can get! Looks fabulous!
Ashley says
It looks gorgeous, Shay!! Sending you hugs, you can really see the difference in the first/last day photos!
Make Life Marvelous
Mary says
Love the new door! we are doing the opposite, all glass to solid door because we have 5 dogs and 2 of them are 8 pounds, well they are the alarm for every activity that goes by the front door from neighbors walking their dogs to mailman and amazon, and God forbid if someone rings the doorbell :)- the 2 little dogs sit in the front foyer and once they see any activity, they bark and the other 3 big dogs come running and you can only imagine 5 dogs barking at once when your office is in your home 🙂 – but I do love the all glass but I love my sanity better 🙂 lol!!
have a great day!!
Melissa says
It looks so good! 👏
Rachel Dean says
Looks great! Can you tell us where you got the bunny statue? 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Sandstone Garden in Joplin, MO 😉
Courtney says
Ha – funny you mention the first day photos because that’s immediately where my brain went after seeing the “after!” How different they’ll look. BUT, the new door is gorgeous, and I love the upgrade. Any increase in natural light is a win in my book!
Kara says
Love it! I just chuckle thinking of all the doodle nose prints/barking slobber that I would be cleaning daily! 🙂 haha
Mix and Match Mama says
Okay, I was afraid of that myself. I was also worried they would stand there and bark at passing dogs being walked…but since my dogs never leave my sight, it hasn’t been an issue. Unless I’m standing by the front door, they are not standing there. They are my little shadows 😉 .
Andrea says
I love it! Those iron front doors are all the rage on the new builds in Austin and San Antonio. I really like the contemporary touch it adds to your home.
Amy Strathman says
Love the new door! It for sure gives a modern twist and looks fabulous! We live in DFW and are looking to do new windows but want the exterior panes on our traditional house. Do you know who you used and what color your windows are?
Mix and Match Mama says
Of course! We used Lone Star Iron Doors. They’re local!
Karah Stracener says
It is a beautiful change. I love it!! I am such a privacy person that I could never do a see through glass front door. lol I don’t want anybody to see what I am doing inside or why am I not answering the door.
Heather says
LOVE it! I think it’s nice to add updates to an existing home. Our homes are always evolving and changing as we age. The door is beautiful and love the light it will bring in. Did yall use a local company for the door or did you use an online store?
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you so much. I completely agree! We used Lone Star Iron Doors which is local.
Lisa says
Love the new door!
MIRANDA BODENHAMER says
l Love it! Maybe you can print a door knocker and just tape it up where it was on the old door for photos LOL
Bailey Morris says
Love it. Ok –– just a suggestion, but I think the next step is updating the lanterns and the balcony gate (what’s the word for that?) to match the straight lines of the door… or even removing the gate thing altogether so it’s more streamlined and open like the door is now. Not that you asked, but I love dreaming alongside ya!
If you give a mouse a cookie… 😉
Dena says
When you prefaced it saying “some will love it, some won’t” I was kinda nervous……but I love it! I think it ties in better with the other black iron accents you have better than the wood door did.
Lauren Palmer says
It looks amazing!!!! Every time I drive by I look for one of you to be walking by the front door. 😉
Jeanne says
Love it! Isn’t it amazing how just changing a door can change the house so much! Well done.
Alisha says
Totallllly fooled me and I assumed you were changing the iron gate on the window above the door or the lighting! lol! Love the new door so much!!
Jill says
It looks beautiful ❤️
Kacey says
Love love love love love!!! Maybe it’s the builder’s daughter in me, but I live for any sort of home reno/building project, big or small =) Thanks for sharing!!
Holly C says
love the update…very nice!
Melissa says
Definitely the first thought was about your school pictures! You should have had them add wheels to the bottom of the old door, and wheeled it out twice a year for your pictures! Ha!
Deb says
I love it!!!! You can’t go wrong with bright and light.
Jeanette says
Love the refresh!
Beverly says
It’s absolutely perfect and fits you to a T. I love it. Enjoy!
Elizabeth S says
I love it. I think it makes it look more open.
Lisa says
I love anything that allows more light into my house. It’s beautiful and does add a sleek modern look!
Karen in Virginia says
Shay, is there any way to close the door so that you can’t see inside? So, people can see in at any time of day or night? Just curious. It is absolutely gorgeous! Great choice!
Mix and Match Mama says
No, it’s clear through and through. Thank YOU!!
Lori Reggio says
The new door looks beautiful♥️
Amy Grace Duncan says
I love it! We live in Florida where a lot of people have glass front doors (us included!) and I think they’re great. They make the house look so welcoming.
Kristy Moore says
I’m right there with about 90% of these comments in taht I only know how much your kids have grown by comparing where they hit the door! LOL
Love the door, but is security going to be an issue? I’d be worried about someone coming and smashing the glass or soem random dude peer being a peeping Tom! 😛
Diane Moore says
I’m late to comment because, somehow, I couldn’t get Monday to come up on Monday morning 🤷♀️
All that to say, I love seeing your comfort with the view into your home. I’ve been debating replacing our front door for 1/2 glass but have hesitated. I want that light! And we already have sidelights if someone really wants to peek. 😁
Thanks for sharing. Thanks for ALL your sharing!
Denise Cutler says
I love the door update! It brightens everything up.
Angela says
I love the new update, Shay!!! The door looks great!!
Alyssa says
Looks so clean and fresh! We all know how it is with “If you give a mouse a cookie”! Andrew may want to prepare himself for new exterior lighting, upper balcony railing and mayyyyybe exterior paint.. haha!
Mix and Match Mama says
I think we’re good with all of those things 😉
Anneka says
I love it! It’s a beautiful look. And you love it, which is what really matters. ❤️
Keisha Dawson says
I love it!
Dawn says
Love it so much!!!! You scared me a little with the whole – some will love, some will hate – but it’s AMAZING!!!!
Marisa Patel says
It is beautiful! We are in the process of changing our front door to add more windows and bring in some natural light to the entry. I absolutely love your door and really wanted to do an arch door but….the hubs won that challange.
Krista says
I’m clearly behind! But my first thought was HOW has it been 11 years. My very next thought was what about before and after pics 🤣. I love the door, but that came after the first two thoughts!
