- Total Time: 13 minutes
- Yield: 4 1x
Description
Looking for a twist on the traditional Sloppy Joe? Try our bowls! This meal can be on the table in under 15 minutes! Bonus, they’re also gluten-free!
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO)
- salt and pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 (8 oz) cans tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon spicy mustard (you can use regular deli mustard if you prefer)
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- about ½ cup prepared and ready to eat rice per person
- chopped green onions to garnish
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown up your ground beef in a drizzle of EVOO until it’s crumbly. Stir in a nice pinch of both salt and pepper along with your garlic powder.
- Next, stir in your tomato sauce, spicy mustard, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring everything up to a simmer and let it hang out about five minutes.
- After your mixture has simmered, time to build your bowl. Take your rice and add it to a bowl along with a scoop of Sloppy Joe mixture and then garnish with a bit of chopped green onion.
- Enjoy!
Notes
Make sure you check your Worchestershire sauce for gluten if you’re eating g-free.

Thanks for the gluten free meals! My daughter and I are also vegetarian and I am wondering how this bowl would taste with tofu instead of beef?? I think I will try it!! Thanks!

Let me know what you think!!

Use the Gardein brand, The Ultimate Meatless Ground, it’d be perfect with the rest of the recipe!

I’m also a vegetarian, and lentil sloppy joes are my fav! Have never tried with tofu but the lentil sloppy joes are hard to beat! 🙂

I made a slightly modified version of those air fryer potatoes over the weekend, and they were so amazing! I am new to the air fryer and still learning cook times, so having your guidance was a huge help!

Yay!! I’m so happy to hear that!!!

Perfect timing. I have been looking for a sloppy joe recipe. Quick question – is 1/2 cup cooked rice per person or in total?
Mix and Match Mama says
Whoops! Let me correct that on the recipe. I say per person!

It’s our first day of in-person school for my sophomore and freshman and I haven’t cried on the first day since kindergarten but here I am, been crying all morning…but food is a good distraction! I’ve been making sloppy Joe stuffed potatoes recently and they are a winner at my house! I made a big batch of rice and taco meat on Sunday and we’ve been enjoying burrito bowls but sloppy Joe bowls are happening really soon! Looks delicious!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh mama!!!! I hope it’s a GREAT day!!!!
Darcy says
Yum! We prefer rice over bread anyways (no g issues thankfully) and we make burrito bowls all of the time but I never thought about sloppy joes – this is a great idea! Happy Wednesday ?
Janell Huntsman says
I’ve seen sloppy joe recipes using lentils instead of meat, so you could probably do that instead of meat for a vegetarian option.
Mandy says
Our family loves sloppy joes too. We were in in Daytona Beach last spring and ate at “Sloppy Joes.” We tried their sloppy joe nachos. So good!
Leticia says
We usually eat sloppy joe’s on rice too! However, I’ve never thought of putting it on a baked potato… Sounds yum!
