Prinary Bedroom Reveal


One by one, we got the rooms in our house back to normal after the flood last June.

First up, we got the GUEST BATH all fixed up again.

Then, I shared our new and improved GREAT ROOM.

After that, it was time to share our PRIMARY BATHROOM.

And then, MY NEW OFFICE!

Today, I’m sharing pics of our new and improved master bedroom post rain 🙂 .

Now that you’ve seen my new office, you understand that it’s literally right on top of my bedroom, so when the roof was off to add that floor, and it rained, my room got the majority of the damage/was the hardest hit.

Here’s a look at my room pre-flood…

…literally everything was taken out from floor to ceiling.

And here’s a look now at post-flood…

…awwww!  It’s fresh and bright for this new chapter.

Where there once was…

…three windows on that wall, there is now…

…four floor to ceiling windows which I LOVE!!!  I love that views I get of the yard and pool now, plus, all the light!

Here’s the new entrance to my office.  If you’ll remember from that post, there is a pocket door there for privacy. That used to be an exterior wall of our house.

We were able to salvage many things from the water damage.  All of the paintings were pulled down and put away in time, the dresser there on the left, our Sleep Number mattress and both lamps.  We thought we had saved the actual bed and the chair and ottoman, but when the movers were ready to bring that stuff back into our house months later, the bed had a huge crack in the headboard and the chair was ruined from water damage.  The rug was toast too as was all of the bedding.

When I made my bed the morning of June 19, I had NO IDEA that I wouldn’t be back in my room until the day before Thanksgiving.  We didn’t get it “finished” until February, but we were able to start sleeping in it again in November.

So, one more room put back together 🙂 .  I’ve always been opposed to white and preferred taupes, but this whole experience had me craving fresh, bright and clean.  Thank you girls for all the love you’ve shared with my family over the last year.  We are SO blessed by all of YOU!!!

    Looks beautiful!!
    I can so relate- my daughter rescued 2 yellow belly turtles a few years ago and has a 55 gallon aquarium in her room(upstairs) where they live. 3 weeks ago we were out of town and came home to find that all 55 gallons of water leaked out.?
    Our living room, hallway, & part of our bedroom were above her room so our home looks similar to yours back in the summer. No walls, floor, huge fans, etc. Praying for a smooth & quick process to get our home fixed!

      We had the same thing last year!!!’ A fish tank. But my remodel missed the kitchen – at first I was glad now I’m thinking that could have been good!

    I love the white! But I’m giggling at all the nightstands and tables having stacks of “Shay” books – doesn’t Andrew get to have any books too? Ha!

      If he read real books, he could totally stack them. He doesn’t read real books and he keeps his kindle by his sunscreen. Hahaha!

    Did the contractor have to bear the brunt of the damage expense or did your insurance have to pick it all up. Love the bright, airy room.

      Those doors have been there since the very beginning when we built, so I don’t remember their specifics. I’m sorry!

    Loved the before. Love the after even more! Also love the little dog bed next to the bed. Awww…

    Are those three different height peepholes in the door so that any of the family who answers a knock at the door can see who is out there? If so, love that! If not, then just ignore me.

    What a beautiful bedroom Shay – love it! I was thinking the same thing as another reader . . . so which side of the bed does Andrew sleep because both sides have “chic” books on them. Lol!!! Couple questions – where do you normally get all of your picture frames like the ones that are above your bed? I love all the heavy/antique looking frames throughout your house. They are so tasteful. Also – do you use the chair/ottoman much that’s in your room? I’ve been thinking about getting one for my bedroom, but then wonder if I’ll use it much? Thanks for sharing! Prayers to Ashby and your family on a wonderful and trusted relationship with her new surgeon.

      So, all of the artwork above the bed is in the original framing from when we purchased it. Each of those pieces has been picked up from antique shops, etc. When I do my own custom framing, I use Hobby Lobby! And yes, I love to read there! It’s so cozy!

    Looks great! Love the new windows! Your oil paintings are beautiful. I’m always in search of oil landscapes. I had painted our bedroom dark brown years ago. It was cozy, but I felt renewed and refreshed when I painted it a lighter color. I know you’re feeling like a weight has been lifted getting your house back.

    This looks absolutely wonderful! Two quick questions! Did you always have a door to the patio from your room? Is your bedspread the duvet cover or comforter?

      Yes! We’ve always had that door and it’s an actual comforter/bed spread. There is no duvet/duvet cover.

    Looks great! I’m curious on the bed/mattress…is it a platform bed or is there a box spring? Is that a fitted sheet covering both or does it just look really tall? Or is it a flat sheet tucked around? I’m having the hardest time finding a comforter to cover both box spring and mattress. Thanks!

    Everything looks so beautiful! Restoration Hardware has gorgeous furniture. I love how bright and clean it all looks. Did they have to redo the fireplace too?

    Shay, your new bedroom is absolutely gorgeous. You have the best taste in home decor (and fashion, and pretty much everything else). Just curious, what is the name of the color that was on your master bedroom walls in the before picture?

      I really think it was called something like “oatmeal”. It was SW, but I don’t remember the exact name…maybe oatmeal? It’s very similar to “latte” which is in my library! That’s also SW!

    Shay, years ago you told me you used 408 Stone and Steel. We recently ran out and I’ve tried to find it so many places and no one has it. I think they might have stopped making it. Are you still using it?

      Nope! isn’t that sad? I really liked that stuff. We’re using one our grocery store sells…it’s a white bottle with green lettering but for the life of me, I can’t think of the name. When I go downstairs, I’ll check!

      We did not! We had to move them out for a bit, but they’re kept in a closet on shelves that wasn’t disturbed by the rain.
