It’s PODCAST TUESDAY!!
Today, we’re going to get you in the mood for fall because Erika and I are BREAKING DOWN BACK TO SCHOOL!
From our routines to what we really think about packing school lunches, we’re breaking down the ins and outs of sending our eight kiddos back to school. We also chat a bit today about what gets harder when our kids go back and what gets easier, when we actually back to school shop, if we get nervous for our kiddos and our thoughts on holding kids back a grade (we’ve both done it!). All of that in today’s episode!
You should be able to listen to this particular episode (and the others!) by clicking THIS LINK HERE or you can catch all of our episodes on your favorite podcast platform (Spotify, Apple, etc).
As a reminder, so far this season we’ve broken down HAWAII, TRAVELING TOGETHER, BINGE WATCHING, FRIENDSHIP, BOTOX, BIKINIS, FITNESS, THE BESTIES, SOCIAL MEDIA, ENNEAGRAM and we RECAPPED THE FIRST TEN! If you love us, please follow us on Instagram @thebestiebreakdown, if you have reader questions, please email us at thebestiebreakdown@gmail.com and we love positive reviews! Please listen, love us and give us a great rating!

My kids are 15&13. They both get up on their own. I cook them breakfast though. My 15 yr old wants a hot breakfast. My kids get free lunch this year but I realized my son was skipping lunch because he didn’t like it. I had him weigh this morning and he’s lost 6-7 lbs since school started ?. We packed him a lunch this morning ?. I hate packing lunches lol but bless his heart he’s got to eat.

My favorite walk outside on Tuesdays is listening to you both! I am heading back next week. I am a elementary school counselor and I am never not excited about a new theme or fun lunches to pack! I am asking for prayers as VA is back to kids and staff wearing masks. My heart hurts not to see their smiles and it is such a big part of what I do emotionally. Thank you both in advance. And Shay, I put out all my light up pumpkins and candles and it seriously changed my entire morning. Sheer happiness! xo
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh Beth, I hope you have the best school year. I can only imagine how blessed your students will be with you as their counselor. Sending you so much love!
Nicole says
Love all your traditions!! My kids love your green pancakes!! On a busy first day of school, did you still squeeze in a morning work out?!
Mix and Match Mama says
Nope! I skipped it that day!!

I have one 6 year old boy who just started first grade. I do not plan on having anymore kids and think I will carry him from his bed into the living room for the rest of his life! Ha
Mix and Match Mama says
You do it, mama!! Enjoy that sweet boy!
Erika Slaughter says

I had to laugh about starting early. We went back July 29th. We do get 2 weeks off every quarter… so first two weeks in October, 2 at Christmas, and 2 for Spring Break. Out by Memorial Day. I like it…. Makes for great vacations outside of summer.
Mix and Match Mama says
I always wonder about that schedule. Do you find that it’s harder to work/find your routine with so many breaks?
Jami says
Not really. It’s all we have really known. We did go back to just one week breaks a couple years ago then went back to two. We have a neighboring district that we need to follow due to our students going to trade school. The hard part is July 4th really is the end of summer and not middle. Once you get through the first two weeks it’s no big deal

So many great ideas! I’m wondering how you store your kids school work throughout the year? What do you save and what do you pitch? Any organization tips appreciated as I have three in elementary this year!
Mix and Match Mama says
I pitch most things (because they come home with just so much!!). We take pics of a lot (so we can see it on our phones), hang things on the fridge/their bedroom doors on occasion and then just keep those really special pieces to be framed in a cabinet to frame at the end of the school year.
