Happy Friday, friends!
This is SUCH a random post, but it seems like so many of you are interested in the small day to day bits of us living here on Nantucket, so I thought I’d share…my bathroom bag 🙂 .
In this house, we have one bathroom upstairs, one downstairs and an outdoor shower. When we first moved in, Andrew and I tried to establish “our spaces” for getting ready. We really quickly realized though that we can establish our spaces all day long, but when we want to shower/get ready/etc, there’s a good chance another family member will be in said space, and we’ll need to move to one of the other locations.
When we first moved in, I tried putting all of my things in the upstairs bathroom, but often, someone else was in there, so I would have to wait until they were done or I had to carry all of my things out of that bathroom and take it either downstairs or outside. One day, Andrew said “we need like one big bag to carry around our stuff so that we can just go where we need to go when we want to get ready and it’s all there”.
Thus, our bathroom bags were born…
If you want to see what’s in our bags, how we’re using them and hear me chatter on about the whys and hows, watch the video above 🙂 .
I mention so many things in this video, and I tried to list as many of them as I could below too:
Bogg Bag (in blowing PINK bubbles)
Isle of Paradise tanning drops
My favorite concealer in shade 29n
Creamy bronzer in shade seychelles
Favorite blush in shade orgasm
tarte Energy Eye Shadow palette
Triple Sec (I use it as dry shampoo)
That’s it!
Just another random tidbit about life for us on Nantucket right now 🙂 .
I’ll see you all back here TOMORROW for a super fun SUMMER SATURDAY post!
In the meantime, have the BEST Friday! xx

Such a great solution!! Reminds me of the days in the college dorm with a shower caddy!
Lisa says
You’re finally getting the college dorm experience!
Mix and Match Mama says
Well, I had it back in 2000, but I will admit this one is a bit nicer. 😉
Kelli says
Fun Post! Random question: Have you found a nail person on the island yet? I noticed your bare nails. All of your fun colors you choose always inspires me! 😍
Mix and Match Mama says
I went to get my dip replaced and long story short…I’ve decided to just go bare until I’m back in McKinney. My nails haven’t had a break since lockdown, so I’m guessing they need a break anyway.
Sheaffer says
Well, I don’t need a bathroom bag, but I do need lots of stuff IN your bathroom bag!!!! #addtocart
Jennibell says
Ha! I am one of those “nerds” that loves this stuff! You mentioned it at the end, but it’s like being in college and having roommates again 🙂 Great system and I love the bag. I didn’t realize, until you went through it, how many products you have influenced me to buy/try/use over the years! Thanks for all the great tips and recommendations. Happy weekend!
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I bought a Bogg bag a few years ago for the beach because before that I was using a 31 tote as my pool/beach bag. I love a Bogg bag! Just like you said, it holds its shape and you can just rinse it out at the end of the day if needed.

Love this! It’s a great idea for carrying toiletries for road trips, too! 🙌🏼
Over the years I’ve said several things in your comments about perfume not being good for us, trying to avoid pesticides on food, etc. Well, I discovered foodsciencebabe on IG and YouTube and a board certified dermatologist on IG called ranellamd, among others. They kinda changed my life! They explain pesticides on food and why it’s okay to eat conventional, how Europe goes about their standards, etc. They both helped me so much and I think others might find them freeing as well!

I need new mascara. What do you reccommend? Also, the tanning drops, do you add them directly to your skin or mix it with a morturizer/sunscreen? Thanks!!
Mix and Match Mama says
About every five days or so, I add about three drops to my nighttime moisturizer and apply at night. The next morning, you wake up with just the right glow.
Gail Hutchinson says
I’m loving your Nantucket posts while I’m baking here in Fort Worth! Ha! Quick question…..when you come home will you leave your toiletries there? Not your makeup but all the other stuff. Super random question I know.
Mix and Match Mama says
I have duplicates of everything (including makeup!), so that I can leave it here and make future trips oh so easy.
Faith says
Thanks for sharing! Why do we love to know what are in people’s bags? 😆🫣🤔 lots of great product ideas! Love the Bogg and that skin care bag – I have it in lavender.
Kathy says
What do you use to apply the tarte seychelles bronzer?
Mix and Match Mama says
That jumbo makeup sponge!

It’s like you’re back in college. LOL! How do y’all do lunch in the summer? We’re back from vacation, and I don’t want to be in the kitchen all day. My teens don’t want sandwiches every day either.
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s a very random combo of sandwiches/wraps/things we make at home, sometimes we go to a fish market and grab things to either make fresh crab cakes or we buy them there or we’ll eat somewhere (trying to try #alltheplaces).
Ramona Puckett says
That’s actually a great idea! Love the video, I’ve always loved the Bogg bags but couldn’t justify buying it. You’ve convinced me I need the Bumble Gum Pink! Have a great weekend ❤️
Alicia says
So fun to see! What is the lotion you put in your hair to make it wavy? Have a great weekend!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh geez, I should have linked that! It’s here: https://mixandmatchmama.com/2022/01/easy-waves-for-your-monday/

Your bathroom bag shows you’re taking control of the situation, but also flexible about where to get ready. As a Type-A I can appreciate this solution! Now I need a peek at your outdoor shower! I’ve never had one and the idea of showering outside has me all kinds of curious. 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s amazing, Kathy!
Darcy Sexson says
What a fun post! And you had me laughing at the end when you described how your kids have their stuff everywhere. 🙂 #kids #truth
Happy Friday!
Sarah says
Talk to me about the outdoor shower- isn’t it freezing!! Love the bag idea- that is pretty similar to what we do when we stay at our family cabin- just in caddies.. I might upgrade to the bag
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s enclosed and the water is hot, there’s a mirror…it’s delightful!
Eileen says
Gosh this reminded me of when I was in college at UF. We ALL had bathroom bags in the dorm! Haven’t thought about them in ages but they are a great solution for your Nantucket house!
Dana S. says
Great post on being organized! Kids can make the sane- insane! Ha! Thanks again for being real!
Michele says
Is the outdoor shower, enclosed & private, or do you have to wear a bath suit when you shower? Would love to see pictures of outdoor shower! Great idea to have that when you come home from beach, to rinse off & not get all the sand in your house.
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s enclosed and private. It’s delightful!
Debbra Weber says
I have been searching for a dorm bag for my son to use at college this fall. Do you feel this bag (without dividers/compartments would be good for him to haul his toiletries back and forth to and from his room to the shower room/bathroom?
Mix and Match Mama says
I do! It’s so solid, sturdy and you can hose it off!
Jodi says
My favorited part was the end….They’re kids, their stuff is everywhere. LOL.
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s just so true.
Alison says
Your response to where the kids keep their stuff was SPOT ON. LOL!
That Bogg bag looks pretty cool, I’d never heard of those before. Thanks for sharing!
Tina says
Maybe I missed this part, but do you take all your clothes with you as well or just use a robe or something? (Currently traveling with my family of 5 in an RV. So, I loved this post. 😊)
Mix and Match Mama says
Great question! I take a towel or robe depending on where I’m going/who is awake. I get dressed in my room.
Kristen Cole says
Love love love Bogg bags! They are the best!!!! Ouai is my favorite dry shampoo and they don’t make the mousse anymore. You used it a few years back and I tried it and loved it but can’t find anything that compares!
Courtney says
Alright, Shay!
Random ? to go with your random post (which I loved :): Are you leaving your nails all natural this summer (meaning no gel/dip, etc.)?
Happy Summer!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes but not because I like it. Hahaha! My attempt at getting them “dipped” here didn’t go well, so I’m just going to leave them off until I’m back in McKinney.
Kimberly says
Please give a back yard tour & show the outside shower. I cannot imagine having/ using one:)
Mix and Match Mama says
YES!!!
Stacy says
And now we need a tour of the outdoor shower!
Kacy M says
This reminds me of college and shower caddy haha!
Kathleen Latham says
What a fun post! I’m one of those who loves these random tidbits of info! And bogg bags are my FAV!!! They’re the very best! Using mine now on our beach trip! But also use it as a pool bag and random take anywhere bag during the winter. I have a small one for my teacher bag as well! What a great solution to the bathroom situation! Was the outdoor shower already there or did y’all add it with yalls renovations? Is it a normal thing in houses up there? Such a great idea in a beach town!
Mix and Match Mama says
I am obviously guessing here, but I would say 90% of the homes have outdoor showers because of the sand from the beach/seasonal weather/etc. When you drive around, you see them on almost every property at every price point. Our home already had one when we moved in, and we all use it every day. It’s so much easier/faster/more refreshing and larger than the inside showers.
