Happy happy Wednesday!
You know the drill, I randomly mark a date on my calendar, and then take pics and document it “day in the life” style.
It’s summertime which means no day is “routine” or “regular” or “normal” which, as you can imagine, keeps this routine-loving girl on her toes.
I’m going to label this one “my day in the life” as it lacks photos of half the family. Sigh. Nevertheless, we were all in it together 🙂 .
This was our July 15th.
Happy reading! xx
My alarm went off at 5:30, and I headed to do my quiet time with some coffee and some dogs…
…and then I worked from the couch. I love working before everyone wakes up because it’s quiet and there are zero distractions.
Next up…
…I chatted on the phone with my bestie as I put away laundry, emptied the dishwasher and made my bed.
After that, I hopped on my bike and headed…
…to the gym to workout. While I was there, I saw…
…this big guy. He wouldn’t pose for a picture with his mama, but he did let me take a photo of our feet. Geez, I love my boy. The BEST version of this kid is on Nantucket. I don’t know what that means for his future after high school, but he’s just his happiest/hardest working/best self here.
After my workout (it was shoulders day)…
…I hopped on my bike and rode home.
I made breakfast for the kiddos…
…turkey bacon, eggs, and I also heated up leftover homemade pancakes from the day before (with Nutella!) and poured myself another cup of coffee. Random but my coffee is black but if you use a Jura or Nespresso, it froths the top…
…and then after it starts cooling/you start drinking, it settles. Speaking of which, I settled back into work.
Around 12:30…
…I took these two for a walk. Some days, I walk all four at once and other days, we do it in shifts.
Everything is just so beautiful.
When I got back, I was about to make lunch, but Andrew told me the weather was too nice to be inside, so we changed plans last minute and headed out…
…I ran upstairs to change (I didn’t have time to shower)…
…I threw on my swimsuit, shorts and tank…
…we loaded up the car (we are always ready and prepared to head to the beach!)…
…we weren’t going to a beach where you drive on, so on this day, we just needed the basics.
We stopped for lunch on the way to the beach at one of our favorite spots…
…The Tavern! Crazy hot dirty mess, but between “life” and the beach, there just wasn’t time to shower.
I had a salad and then…
…off we went to Jetties Beach. This is the main “tourist beach” in town, but we enjoy going here sometimes because the water is warmer and it’s more shallow.
We have our beach routine down.
See how shallow this beach is? It’s really fun for families!
Erika and I were talking yesterday about how much we looooove summer but also how much we love our school year routines too. As much as I’m excited to get back to my “norm” (because I do LOVE my norm!), I am going to miss these mid-day breaks at the beach with my family.
We all left the beach (Smith met us there after he got off work), and we headed home…
…I took an outdoor shower and finally got myself cleaned up and then let my hair start air drying while I worked some more.
Later that night, we got dressed…
…you can find my dress HERE (on sale!) and headed…
…to The Nantucket Hotel for their outdoor s’mores (my littles were so excited) before…
…our last family dinner of the season at Cru.
We love Cru and wanted to enjoy it one more time this summer as “a crew”.
And that was my day in the life.
Happy Wednesday! I’ll see you tomorrow! xx

I love these Shay! I’m a teacher and one would think the summer is the best ever and in a lot of ways it is- but there’s something about having a daily routine that is so comforting to me. I always find the end of summer bittersweet. love hearing about your family’s summer- it looks great!
Random- but did you know that Netflix will be coming out with The Perfect Couple by Elin H. this Sept.!!? I’m just reading the book now and this def gives me something to look forward to for the school year!!! Blessings to your beautiful fam!
Mix and Match Mama says
I need to go back and re-read that one. I will TOTALLY be watching it on Netflix!

Such a happy little post! I read an article from the NYT the other day that was talking about the hydrangeas in Nantucket and how they’re amazing this year and people are flocking to see them. They’re pretty incredible where we are, too!

Love it!! 🙂 What a fun day! Love the Nantucket posts, but I’m also looking forward to the McKinney ones. 🙂

Awesome. It looks like you eat out a lot when you are there. Do you cook at home for dinners at all? I was wondering if that’s part of the summer- not cooking dinner? I mean, I could handle that…
Mix and Match Mama says
This summer, we’ve been cooking dinner at home twice a week. The food/restaurant experience is such a big deal here during the summer season, that we’ve been taking advantage of that.

What a wonderful day!!!! What a dream to be able to just hop over to the beach on a whim!

Love these posts! Is Kensington with your crew this summer? And if so, what does she do on Nantucket while Smith works and the littles are at camp? Just curious as a mother of teenage girls as summers are hard once they outgrow camps!
Mix and Match Mama says
She’s been here with us the whole time 🙂 . We tried so hard to find her a job this summer, but it didn’t work out (we already have one lined up for next year though!). She does the same things we do every day: works out, goes to the beach, heads into town to see people…she’s just a little more private about what she’s up to which I try to respect. Right this very minute, she’s watching Friends next to me on the couch while I type this.

These posts are the best! I know you’ve said you sleep in a little more (5:30am) in the summer, do you tend to stay up later? Also, can you share your new hair routine with letting it air dry? Happy summer, Shay!
Mix and Match Mama says
It depends. Last night, I went to bed at 9:15 🙂 . It was glorious! I can also do a new post for my longer hair. Adding it to the list!
Debbra Weber says
I love your posts! The summer Nantucket posts give the rest of us a little getaway too. Enjoy your time there!!
Jeanette says
Vey cool to have a spontaneous mid-day break and go to the beach 😁
Montana Hyde says
I love you and Madeley matching with your butter yellow swimsuit tops!! Also, do you have a lash lift? your natural lashes look so long and curled!
Mix and Match Mama says
I use Revitlash and Beauty Counter’s mascara. I LOVE both!! I tried getting my lashes lifted right before my hysterectomy (thinking it would be one less thing to think about since it was the holiday season too), and it made me SO claustrophobic to sit there with my eyes taped down. I’ve never done it again.
Laura Holmes says
So jealous of all your beach time! Soak it up with all your kiddos while you can! I have college and high school kids and it gets even crazier to juggle time.
Kristy D says
Love these posts!!! Which shoes do you have on at the gym in this post ?
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re oldies but goodie ASCICS!
Dedee says
Loved this! Your family is precious and it’s beautiful to get a glimpse of these memories along with you.
Would you mind sharing the paint color you used in your bedroom accent wall?? It looks like the perfect steely blue🤩
Also, where did you get that awesome rattan mirror you use for your outfit pics?
Thanks for taking us along for your day!
Mix and Match Mama says
The paint and other details are all in this post: https://mixandmatchmama.com/2023/06/primary-bedroom-on-nantucket/. The mirror is from Serena & Lily.
Thank YOU! xx

Do you have a link for Ashby’s white dress? It is adorable!
Mix and Match Mama says
It was Kensington’s (not recently) from Altar’d State.
Sandi Kellman says
I just love all of this for you and I keep thinking what a blessing. It must be to be away from that heat and the storms this summer you’ve worked very hard for that. Enjoy those babies while they’re still young before you know it they’ll be out of the nest or older teens where they have their own routines and may not want to join you in Nantucket. What a beautiful blessing you have enjoy all the minutes
Sandy M says
Did I miss you telling us about Smith working? What is he doing there? That is neat!
Mix and Match Mama says
He’s had two jobs here since May! I’m not sharing what/where they are though just because I don’t think people need to know where my kiddo is when he’s unattended, but he’s loving them. It’s been so good for him!
Heather S says
You are living the dream, girl! What an amazing summer so far!
Deb says
I’m sorry your time on island is ending. I live vicariously through your summer posts! Enjoy your last weeks

Hi Shay! Love these posts! Can you link Mades striped dress? So cute!
Mix and Match Mama says
Old Navy! We bought it for our cruise in March though, so I’m not sure if it’s still available.
Beth Valenta says
Just so precious and fun! I am enjoying relaxing before heading back to school. Just got home from that dreadful beatdown of our Red Sox in NYC. I think I am a curse every time I am there with my daughter (Yankees fan), we lose. BTW…love sweet Ashby’s dress ! She looks so grown up.
Tina says
In the car pic…is that one of your nice blankets on the ground ON THE FRONT PORCH??😆 If so, I’m feeling some serious solidarity. I’m constantly washing our blankets, just for my kids to clean the floors with them.😄
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh for the love…KIDS. It’s a throw blanket (I think from Wayfair) that one of my kids spilled their drink all over, so I had it out with the sandy beach towels to wash when the washing machine was free. #sigh.
